Sigh.... How did I end up here? Wine tasting, great experience with friends for sure, but everybody gets so fluffy in public events. The lecture, the story ending with a ''I know it all'' smile by the host, indistinct chatter. Fifth wine we are at, I have a purple tongue and a numb palate, they are still talking about the blackberry finish. What blackberry?!! Your eyes are dimmed and dimples are deeper with every generous smile, there is no way you are getting that blackberry. Did you get it? Of course I did, what am I, a paisan?!! You do not want to be the coarse grind that can not get the dang blackberry. That is why everybody gets it. Oh with a hnit of vanilla that would be...

It is getting hotter, and this woman is asking me questions; hollandaise, prunes hydrated with port and blue cheese, and their effects on the third world. Another one jumps in as the pasta nazi and tells all the rules and regulations on proper etiquette. It is a noodle for Christ's sake, follow the package instructions and relax... Maybe I am drunk, in desperate need of cold, cheap and well carbonated beer and primitive conversation. Food is food, nothing more than that. The most important thing about wine, food, eating and delighting is good company and good times. Why would you want to regulate that kind of happiness with weird interjections and limits? Who cares, do whatever you want, eat whatever you want, whenever you want and however you want. And if somebody tells you other way, tell them to get a life.

But when you need gadgets to have fun in the kitchen to execute, and feel like Emeril Lagasse, well then you come to gourmet warehouse. BAM! This place is dangerous for people who like to spend time and money in, and or for their workshop, the kitchen in my case. I am trying to quit them to get a hold of my budget. I have been gourmet sober for 3 weeks now. And it is calling, again.

Boy oh boy, do the have everything, literally that would be. The ultimate one stop shop. A heaven for a home cook. Edible gold flakes to impress your new date, mini tabasco bottle for addicts, truffle puree, vanilla bean, whole line of cast irons, the weird kitchen inventions, you probably won't need ever, but too colorful and fun to ignore, good selection of spices, syrups, oils, preserves, dishes, knives, big chef's line of products, impressive frozens, french casserole pots.... etc etc etc etc etc etc etc

If you are from the industry, you can shop around and get these things a bit cheaper, but then again, you are not running a restaurant, are you? As far as the lower mainland goes, Gourmet Warehouse is the king of its kin.

And damn you Lodge's, mini, baby, so petite yet still tough, barley enough for one egg, full of attitude cast iron skillet. So small yet so omnipotent. I would like to own 400 of you... Just so I can start a..... ummm... i don't know what. They just look awesome.

The Gourmet Warehouse is a bakers and cooks paradise. They have a wide assortment of everything you can possibly want in a kitchen, really great quality things as well and fairly priced!

In addition, they also have baking and cooking supplies (the consumable kinds), which was a little surprising, but they made an effort to stock some good basics in there.

What is impressive about the Gourmet Warehouse is the selection they have for the items the stock, with such a large store, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Worth going for a look.

A fun store to spend a few hours practicing self-restraint. When I read that this place was the "Disneyland" and "Costco" of all kitchen supplies, I knew I had to visit. Although it was much smaller than I expected, I am glad I went.

I am not going to say they had absolutely everything I was looking for, but I was pleasantly surprised by their spice selection and their homage to southern food and latin cuisine. It's true, if you like to cook, you will be excited coming to this store. But last week, I visited Ming Wo in Chinatown and marvelled at pancake ball griddles and taco-shell makers for an hour and felt the same kind of excitement. I find the Gourmet Warehouse to be a little on the expensive side, but that didn't stop me from walking out with a few things (gumbo spices and baking goodies). They also have a few items in the frozen section, as well as cast iron pots / tangines.

Definitely keeping this place in mind next time I need some inspiration in the kitchen.

I am an at home chef that creates recipe books and I did a recipe dvd so I had to get a TON of things here to look nice on camera and for photographs.

They had almost everything I wanted. There were a few things like a multi cherry pitter they were out of and they didn't have great gloves for safely slicing on a mandolin.  So I had to order those things from http://Amazon.com instead.

I like that they had a great selection and the dishes are pretty inexpensive.

I got 2 Global knives from here as well and surprisingly they were cheaper than on http://Amazon.com even with the exchange rate. I will definitely buy another when I need to.

What I don't like is the lack of parking. Since I have to buy a bunch of stuff from here I don't take the bus home, we rent a car and it's always a pain in the butt to find parking.  I really think a place with so many customers in it should have SOME parking available. People can't walk everything home you know.

Who doesn't love this place???? I really have to restrict myself from buying everything my heart desires in this store because I just wouldn't have any space in my house. A few of the things I've bought at reasonable prices here:
    1) Angostura bitters--I checked every where else in Vancouver and just couldn't find them. $7
    2) Bialetti Moka for 1 stovetop percolator espresso maker--only $22.99 which isn't bad considering they were at least 16euros in Italy in 2008.
    3) Single serve loose leaf tea bags--so handy!
    4) Peugeot--My very first really nice pepper mill and I was determined to use my $50 giftcard on it! It was $61.99.

There's so much more I'd like to get from here. But... I don't want to burn through my paycheck that fast.

So much love for Gourmet Warehouse.

It makes me happy to realize that I can pretty much buy anything under the sun here. There were pan sizes I didn't know existed. And ramekins. And jars. And Bodums. And knives. And cutting boards. And butchers' blocks. And salts. And peppers. And chilis.

    Need I go on?

Needless to say, I went in with a $15 gift card, and came out $100 poorer.

-1 star for awkwardly organized store. I know, they have a lot of stuff, but f'reals. It took forever to find some things because they were "this but not really that so it'll be over here but not there."

All I want for Christmas is YOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUU. All of you!

Shelves stocked full of sauces, teas, preserves, spices and steak rubs. Racks of ramekins, plates, jars of all shapes and sizes. Walls stacked high with gadgets and gismos. And around every corner something else I just HAVE to have: cake decorations, muffin tins, bitters. Pots, pans, baking ware, barware, gifts, knicknacks, gourmet chocolates, aprons. It's like what my dream kitchen would have stocked in it's drawers and cupboards.

I think Gourmet Warehouse could turn kitchen haters into little Jamie Oliver's.

A note to the shopping savvy: avoid Gourmet Warehouse on the weekends. The lineup can be intense.

If there was a Disneyland for foodies and cooks, this would be it!

I was cooking a special recipe which called for a slightly obscure item. I searched one generic grocery store until I remembered Gourmet Warehouse!  I ran over and of course, they had it.  But once you're there, you can't leave.  No, you must stay and peruse the delicious condiments and oogle the cookware.  You might end up with armloads of stuff, be warned.

Bonus: their staff are uber helpful and friendly! Win, win.

OK, do i want to give the GW 5 stars? Sure dum diddle I do!
It is my crack. I love wandering the aisles and only to discover new and different ways to use fennel! No but really, i do love this place. Only problem is...
    IT IS SO FREAKIN EXPENSIVE!!!

    ugh

Look i'm not poor or anything but a mandoline should not cost $80 unless it comes with a tiny little man, ok well maybe a medium-sized man, who will be slicing your paper-thin beetroot for you. If you head to Chinatown I guarantee you can find a lot of what they carry for way cheaper.

In conclusion, I find their use of the word "warehouse" misleading but i do appreciate that in their chip display they open up a few bags for us grubby browsers to snack on between discussing the merits of parmigiano-Reggiano vs Gran Padano.

Ah, it's truly quite lovely. I can go to one side of the store and pick up some vanilla, and on the other, I can get some funky-looking cutting boards.

The store is a little bit pricy... But it's such a thrill. If you enjoy food, and cooking, then you muuuust check out this place.

If there were a store that is *made* to make this robin nest, Gourmet Warehouse is it.

Suddenly I feel like I can cook anything. I can bake anything. I can be the chef I was never meant to be.

Restrain yourself, because this place is the best kind of crack. "No, robin, no. No, you do NOT NEED ANOTHER MANDOLIN" "You don't even *eat* oysters. There is no need for that knife."

... oohhh, but what about that fleur de sel, or the truffle sea salt?

Well, maybe that. And the other things too.

    Your nest deserves it.

I stumbled in here a few years ago to exercise my Food Channel addictions. I have bought everything here from pots and cast iron to kosher salt. Fantastic spice selection; oils and basalmic; baking stuff; canning supplies; kitchen gadgets -- you name it. I go for all my cocktail making needs since they have a huge selection of Giffard syrups and bitters. There is something for everyone here and despite the name, this is relaxed place without a hint of snobbery. Prices are reasonable -- but it's hard not to be impulsive here so you will spend more than you bargained for. Foodie paradise. There is some parking in the alley off Hastings, but the approach is so narrow don't bother. I park on the north side after 3 pm -- south side you'll get towed during rush hour.

Just got back from a trip to Gourmet Warehouse - I love this place. Every time I go, I end up spending twice as much as I had planned to; not because it's expensive, but I turn into a kid in a candy store and suddenly start grabbing random tools and ingredients and fantasizing about all the culinary delights I could create if ONLY I owned this or that...or if only I had a big enough kitchen to store this or that!

Keep in mind - this place can get nutso busy on Saturdays, especially as Christmas approaches. Plan your trips wisely!

Have you ever been inspired by a cookbook, and you look down to the ingredients and it's asking for 2 tablespoons of red sea salt from Mount Mordor. (I just made that up btw) You go to your local super market and you ask the 15 year old clerk and he has no idea what you are talking about. Well, you can probably find it at Gourmet Warehouse located on East Hastings.

This place is the Toys R Us for foodies and weekend chefs. They have:

    Spices
    Herbs
Cookware (All Clad, Le Crueset, etc)
    Bakeware
    Knifes (Shun, Henkels, Global, etc)
    Cleaning products
    Housewares
Gourmet Warehouse started in 1998 by Caren McSherry. (Business owner, cookbook author, etc) They were in the back streets of Hastings, right beside my parents business. I never understood why this business in the back streets was driving so much traffic. I finally understood when I walked into the new location.

As you can see in the pictures, they have a massive inventory of the products they feature. You can find the finest kitchen and bath products here. The staffs are quite knowledgeable and friendly.
As Mario Batali always stress on the importance of olive oil and its quality. Gourmet Warehouse stocks the finest olive oil from all over the world.

The many types of dried pasta. Riedel glassware.Gourmet pasta sauce
    Various sauces and pickled products.

What could possibly be better than the Gourmet Warehouse on any given day? The Gourmet Warehouse on the one day a year where everything in the whole store is 10% off!

Cookware, knives, gadgets, appliances, bakeware, housewares, cookbooks and food all under one roof and at competitive prices even before the 10% discount -excellent!  I ended buying pretty much everything that I had contemplated buying for some time.

Despite the store being absolutely packed, their service was outstanding and I was able to get help with a chef knife, which was locked up in a cabinet, almost  immediately. Their check out area was running at full throttle with cashiers and baggers at every till.

The Gourmet Warehouse is definitely the best overall gourmet food and supplies store in the lower mainland.

    Foodie Heaven!

When I first stumbled upon Gourmet Warehouse I thought I was in heaven... well foodie heaven anyways! I must have wandered the aisles for hours. Well each trip is a repeat, just when I thought I had seen it all, I find something else new.
This store has all the little things that you see in a restaurant and you think, where can I find that, and how can I do that at home?  You will find it here!
If you are looking for the little rounds of cheese cloth to tie your individual lemon slices to serve to your guests (cause I know you all are...) - yes, it's here!
They have everything from the essential cookware & bake-ware to obscure little finishing touch items... plus more.
As I browse, there are always plenty of staff whose advice you can seek.  Their service is above and beyond.  For instance, if they can't help you, they can usually find a place that can!
Great pricing, great value and great service!
Be prepared to need a buggy - you will fill it!

A very dangerous store.  Dangerous to your wallet!

That's because there is so much fun and cool stuff to buy, and everything seems like a good deal, so it is hard not to load up your basket really fast.  My last trip in I only allowed myself into a couple small sections of the store to get what I needed and to get out.  Otherwise I knew I would end up coming home with more than I needed.  In the end, I bought a salmon shaped cookie cutter, which was a little unnecessary, but really, who doesn't love fish shaped cookies?

This is also a great place to put together fun gift baskets.  I know I would be thrilled with a gift basket full of goodies from here.  Wee!

For you bakers out there, they carry Callebaut chocolate here.  Same stuff you can get at Whole Foods.

The Gourmet Warehouse has a wide selection of product in one location, which is its big bonus.   The sad part is it is WAY overpriced.   e.g.  GW charges 9.95 for cheese wrapping paper;  the same product can be purchased at Les Amis Fromage,  3 blocks west for 7.95.  GW charges something like $7 for Moccia Bros meatballs. Moccia Bros has its retail outlet about 5 blocks east of GW and sells the same product for around 5.50.

So, GW has delightful staff and delightful product, but u are urged to do some comparative shopping in order to determine "best prices".

The Gourmet Warehouse is what you would expect if Ming Wo and Costco had a baby and put it on steroids: A giant warehouse full of high-quality kitchen ingredients and toys that will have every local foodie, home cook, culinary student, and professional cook hopping with glee like little schoolchildren.

If you need specialty ingredients, funky gadgets, a host/hostess gift, a decent knife, or something fun to perk up your mood, this is the perfect place to go. There's a great selection of cookbooks, toys (for kids), pretty bathroom accessories (??), bitchy Anne Taintor napkins, cheeses, salts, oils, teas, chocolates, hot sauces, gourmet snacks, tea towels, uniforms, and anything else (tools, pots, pans) you'd need if you actually worked in a kitchen. They also have kid and adult sizes of the cupcake apron that Charlotte wore in Sex And The City 2.

Prices are pretty reasonable. It's a little out of the way, but I often shop here because Wiliams-Sonoma is only going to be my second home when I'm a rock star and hit it big. Be careful not to get lost in the aisles and spend all day here, or else you will max our your credit card!

PS: Gift cards are available. They also host cooking classes and there is kitchen space available for rent.

    Three words: Ri... donk... ulous.

I came here in search of an oyster knife recently, plus I just wanted to check it out, and I discovered that this place has a great selection of pots and pans, every imaginable kitchen gadget you can think of, plus heaps of hard to find ingredients, teas, chocolate (Mo's Bacon Bar by Vosges!), etc. I also found a Benriner mandoline (which is a kick-ass mandoline, if you're in the market) for considerably less than what I payed for mine at Ming Wo. I kept having to say to myself "no Sam, you do not need a ________, or _________".

The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable, and the first time I came, I got the run-down on oyster knives. The second time I came was last weekend, the weekend before Christmas, so it was a bit tricky to track down an employee, but despite the crowds, I got directions AND a smile.

Well I suppose if you're on a uber toight budget, stay far away, otherwise this is the place to hit up if there's a special ingredient you haven't been able to find anywhere else.

Sure the prices are a wee bit high on SOME things, but again.. you must be the hunter! Find the deal and attack it..uhm I meann grab it and buy it.

The baking/decorating section is fantastic too! Then there's the baking pan section, and and ...I could keep going.

    Holy kitchen orgy!

This place has an amazing array of kitchen gadgets! There are very few places in BC where you can get so much selection in just kitchen and cooking supplies. I've been looking for a good quality muddler for mojitos for about two years and they had about four different varieties to choose from.  In addition to the mainstays, they also have cute novelty gifts for those on your shopping list who might be hard to shop for.

They have a range of items from the "cheappie little plastic thing-a-ma-bobs" that you might not really need to the industrial quality, heirloom, multi-generational  "what do you mean, I don't need this?!" items.

    The good:
-Selection can't be beat- you can count on them having what you're looking for...and at a range of corresponding price points and quality levels.
-Layout is easy to navigate and it's easy to find what you need here (Nothing like spending hours getting frustrated to locate the one item you're searching for.)
    -Location is easy to find.
-Staff is knowledgeable, very friendly (but not clingy), and available to assist.

    Could be better:
-Parking, if you're the driving type- there's not a lot- it's all street, and sometimes hard to get.
-Prices are a little steep but that goes with the territory (kitchen supply stores tend to run on the pricey side).

Gourmet warehouse has lots of stuff and generally is also at a better price than the other "cooking stores" around town.

I recently had to look for a gift that needed me to visit this store. I had visited other cooking stores and they were either just way overpriced or there was no selection.

At GW, I found what I needed and had lots of choice (maybe too much choice). I decided to walk around the store to explore and it's true that their selection is unbeatable.

I would definitely recommend this place. And the service is great too. They don't push stuff on you but when you need some help, the staff knows what you're talking about.

    Excellent store.

The Gourmet Warehouse has everything you need in one roof.  From cookbooks, utensils, spices, wines, teas, frozen food. Anything that you need for your kitchen. The prices are pretty good.

It's a dream come true for chefs or even mediocre cook like myself.
You may run into your favorite chefs here.  A must visit for food lovers.

I signed up for a cooking class this past weekend and one of the things we had to bring was a pastry scraper.  They recommended a couple of places that you could buy it from in Van, both of which I thought were going to be overly expensive.
So I called the Gourmet Warehouse because I thought they'd probably have it, they did and the best part, they sold it at a fair price.
That's what I like about this place, I never feeling like I'm getting ripped off.  Plus how can you not love the samples of Caramel Corn, chips and whatever other yummy item that they put out that suddenly you must have.
The salespeople are always friendly and helpful.  I love this place.

Went here for the firs time last night and I gotta say it's really worthy of 5-stars.

I had a list of like 20 things I need for my kitchen from measuring cups and a colander to sieves and a dish drying rack. They had everything on my list except one thing, and I would've bought them all if budget allowed.

The one thing they didn't have is a countertop garbage, oh so useful to throw veggie trimmings and the like into when in a cooking frenzy instead of pushing the pedal or opening the cabinet for the real trash can. Actually, they did have one, but it was plastic so I opted out.

For everything else though, I was able to stay away from the plastic - something I'm adamant about these days. It was great to be able to get everything I wanted in glass or metal so that it will last forever and keep BPA and the like out of my gourmet goodness.

They were definitely able to satiate my craving for quality. Le Creuset cookware, be forewarned: I'm coming to get you as soon as I can.

They could work on the organization of the store... I had difficulty finding some things, but the staff was so attentive that it didn't have a huge impact.

Thanks Gourmet Warehouse! I will return frequently as long as you are around.

I have a big problem with this place. I can't keep coming back here. Everything looks too damn good, and if I was still a stupid teenager I would've maxed my credit card here in no time flat.

Gourmet Warehouse doesn't cater to anyone but gourmands who live to eat (and not the other way around). You will not find lay's chips or coke products here. Instead you have Hard Bites and Boylan's. Hershey's chocolate? Pfft! Try Callebaut and Vahlrona. I've seen multicoloured popcorn fer crying out loud. The buyers at GW don't mess around. They know their customers are knowledged on quality products, and they are one of the few places in Vancouver that meet their expectations.

I have a serious balsamic addiction. The sweet, thick and fruity flavour of aged balsamico is a major weakness of mine. Luckily GW sells Fattoria Estense "Gran Riserva" 12-year-old balsamico at a decent price. You see, they buy direct from the source which eliminates that gross middleman charge. So instead of paying $50 or more I'm only paying $35. Thanks Gourmet Warehouse!

Low prices at a "gourmet" shop?  Never heard of it until I came here.  I bought a few things thinking I was probably over-paying for convenience, and spotted the same things elsewhere.  The same goods at Safeway were priced about 25% MORE than at the Gourmet Warehouse.  Bonus.

Tons of people working here who know what's up.  Bonus.

Wide selection for food & wine snobs.  Bonus.

So here's to feeding my pizza kick with my new pizza stone, herbs, and darn, I guess I have to go back and buy myself a slicer.

Most beautiful and lovely Gourmet Warehouse!
You are the Siren of kitchen ware stores....
    (both alluring and bankrupting).

I was guided here by my favourite aunt to get a gift for her husband who loves all things kitchen related.
Indeed there are hundreds of droolicious stainless utensils and cooking gadgets of all sorts.
There are woks and pots, pans and recipe stands, specialty foods, fondue sets and popcorn air pots....

After filling my arms with gourmet chips of unimaginable flavours, (all gluten free-yay!), and tapenade and hot sauce from all over the global map,
I decided a gift certificate was the gift best served.

Pair your visit up with Latin Organics cafe, next door. Or if you're lucky maybe Frank will be there passing out coffee samples :)

Real chef or household chef this busy store-warehouse is the real deal for everything required to run a kitchen... with truly warehouse pricing. If your looking to load up on condiments, sauces, specialty items this is the place.

The owner "Caren" can be heard on local radio chat shows regularly discussing the industry and preparing issues home chef may have. She can also be found in the store and very helpful if need be.

Make sure you check out the freezer section its hard to pass up. I love this place!!!
