Review from Dylan O.
Sausalito, CA
I challenge you to find a better deli sandwich than the Golden Gate Market's "All American" (Turkey & Avacado with Bacon). Their ciabatta roll sandwiches are incredible--always fresh--and if they've already served them all, the staff is happy to make me a sandwich on a fresh baguette. Everyone at the deli has a great attitude, and they make their sandwiches with love (the secret ingredient to good food, I feel). I've yet to try the selections under the glass at their deli because I'm so addicted to their sandwiches, but everyone else in there raves about the dishes, so I assume they're excellent.
Robert, the owner, is a kind, considerate, open-minded grocer who has told us on several occasions that because we're locals, he's happy to stock anything we would like to have. So every Monday we stock up on our favorite ACME bakery bread, and he always keeps a loaf aside for us in addition to his usual stock. Nowhere else around have we found organic lettuce and organic bananas as fresh and delicious, and they usually have a recently brewed batch of Pliny the Elder in stock, for those who know what I'm talking about... They're stocked with mozzarella fresca, and the best local ice creams: Strauss and Three Twins ice cream.
Everyone who works there has a great attitude--I feel that they truly enjoy their work, and it shows. And that says something about the management, too.
All in all, The Golden Gate Market is about as good as a small-town corner grocery can get. When they willingly ask to stock what the customer requests, it's like having a custom-tailored grocery right down the block! Thank you Robert and the Deli crew for all you've given our community. -

I usually come here every time I go hiking around the tip of Marin mainly to explore the old bunkers. Sausalito is a small town along the estuary so there is barely a industrial area (warehouses) nor any fastfood restaurants.
The deli is straight up the bomb because the food are homemade style. They know how to cook from scratch. I recommended enchilada, carnitas, and mac n' cheese. They serve the food by the pound depend on which food like mac n' cheese or salad. -

Hey!
This is a great "staples" market. The deli is FANTASTIC. The sandwiches are Great and a great value. What I like most, is the unique down-home cooked items, like mac and cheese, stuffed potatoes, out of this world pulled pork you can toss in your sauce. They have a carribean marinated pork tenderloin I crave and serve for company. The owner Robert is a great guy too. -

Golden Gate Market is the best! very convenient and nice friendly employees....plenty of parking....the deli is really good and they have a good selection of things you need on the spur of the moment.....My only gripe (and my neighbors agree) - the need a better pet food section - they would probably sell a lot because Sausalito is pretty "pet-centric". Thumbs up to GGM!

Inthe 1950s, my early years, lived in Upper Darby, PA, a bedroom subrub of Philly, full of WWII veterans who were starting new lives and growing families as well as careers.
Our "corner store" was the Morris Corner Store.l The butcher would give me a slice of salami, there were pickles in a big brine-filled barrel and shelves of just about everything. It was our neighborhood store when malls and super markets were only ideas for the future.
When I walked into Golden Gate Market I was transported back 50 years...and it felt really good.
A little bit of everything and a lot of quality in product and service with a local, neighborhood cozyness.
Friendly cashier and the two guys in the deli department were just so relaxed and courteous in describing the various marinaides and sandwich fixings. And you could construct sandwiches to your taste.
Locals have "accounst" whereby theyhe can pick up things and pay for them later. They know where they live and know the families. they even will deliver. How quaint and unusual in our hussle-bussle world today.
In business for well over 30 years it is a Sausalito institution that truly SERVES this now busy community. And given the high end tourists and changing complexion of the local community, one has to give credit and admire how adaptive this "corner store" has been in satisfying its continually changing clientel.
The meats are simply terriffic and the prices for much of the merchandise and deli items are on a par with the supermarkets. Yes, some items are more expensive, but not by much.
Thanks for the memories. You locals are lucky to have such a place, so please support it or it will go away. -

Loveeee golden gate market! This is my absolute favorite place to get sandwiches. My family has been eating there for at least 15 years plus .. Pure love. Probably eaten about 10 thousand dollars worth of sandwiches so far lol.

Some things never change and that is reassuring. Golden Gate Market has existed in the same state of quasi decay for eons. It has that smell of olde timey convenience stores....is it rotting linoleum? And an aura of bygone era.
Their produce is pretty good for a beefed up corner market, and the meat counter has a nice selection. I'm not a big fan of their sandwiches. Don't be in a 7-11 hurry in this joint, it will get you nowhere. Still, they kinda have what you need.
The useful: their Acme bread delivery is at 10am-ish. -

I stopped by here with my brother and nephew. We picked up some sandwiches, sides, and drinks for a beautiful picnic overlooking the bay. I had egg salad. It was really good, and the guy at the deli was really nice. The place is a little overpriced, but I feel like an idiot saying that because everything in San Francisco, where I actually live, is way overpriced, and I usually don't complain.
It has a nice selection; the service is good, and it's just got a really nice small-town feel to it. -

Cutest little market and the deli in the back is small but more than adequate. The meat in the display looked good and if I was on my way home instead of work I'd have bought a steak to make for dinner.
However, as it was, I need to buy my lunch. I love chicken. I hate celery. This place has a chicken salad that has lots of the former and a tolerable amount of the latter. A huge chicken salad on a soft roll with cheddar was $6 and change! It was damn good, too.
A cop did walk in after me and was greeted by name. This place is adorable....too cute.Listed in: Sausalito, Saucy-lito,…

OK, first I just want to say that obviously the guy who gave the one bad review must have a major attitude problem to think anyone at this market is a "rat." Ands considering the latest this market is open is 9 p.m., he also must have a pretty bad drinking problem, especially amid all the Marin winos (myself included). Anyway...
I live nearby and this place is all one could hope for in a neighborhood market - friendly people who remember your face and name and always greet you with a smile, good prices, fresh produce, a decent deli/meat department, and they encourage me to request special items because I have to eat gluten-free.
They are fab, and any local knows this... and tourists sure seem to flock here as well! Definitely worth shopping here and supporting a great local business. -

My friend and I each ordered a chicken breast, bacon, avocado, with the works sandwich and immediately fell in love. It was DEEEEE-LISH. Definitely a nice place to have as "local." Now, for that price, if they could only make their sandwiches a liiiittle bit larger... then we're in business!
Anyhoo... one drawback was... I noticed lots of spouse flies around the deli. Last I checked, that's not a good sign. The sandwich artist was very nice though, so that was most definitely a redeeming quality.
Not a bad overall experience... but increase the sandwich size like Little Lucca, and kill the spouse flies, and you got yourself some more stars! -

Thank God for this neighborhood market. Some items are a little pricey. But, they have super fresh fish, awesome sandwiches, local cheese and a good wine/beer selection. They also carry all of the staples one requires for making a last minute dinner when needed.
All of the employees are very friendly, helpful and polite. -

I was only in this market for about 10 minutes but they left a good enough impresion that I am writing a review a week later.
every thing I wanted after riding across the bridge I found, I was soaking wet and carring a pack, and the cashier had a warm freindly attitude. there should be more places like this. -

I have been coming here for years and I have been fighting with another local over who the Foursquare Mayor of this market is. Great sandwiches and a great liquor section for a small market. I live on Alexander Ave and it is easy to stop by and get anything you might need last minute. OF course you pay for the convenience, which is why I don't do all my shopping there, but that should be a given.

This market and the people it are the reason I am having a hard time moving to the other side of town. I Love this place and have come very well accustomed to taking a walk down the hill for an evening snack, the guys who work here make the place, they are simple and sweet and always make a run to the market an event that brings the whole household down.
The service you should be able to tell is great, the prices are decent and the deli section will make you a breakfast sandwich fresh to order if you can get there before 10 or 10:30, not quite sure of the exact time just know that I never make it in time. Pulled pork and various other red meats already prepared around dinner time are delicious. -

This is a fun little market, if markets can be called fun. It's quirky, has rather short hours, and has an interesting assortment of items (I can say this because they carry one of my personal favorites that I cannot seem to find anywhere else but will not name because you will come over and buy them out). It also functions as a mini liquor store, which can be VERY helpful, and is staffed by some really sweet people. Yup, I'm just kinda rambling here, in much the same way I do when I stop in this place. Very cool.

Review from Gil S.
A typical small town grocer in that funny southern orb of Sausalito coming down from the Golden Gate Bridge on Alexander before you hit the town proper. Maybe 1/4 the size of a true supermarket, but 4X the size of a liquor store. They have it all here -- cigs, lottery tickets, a meat departent, a deli, wine, cold remedies, an okay veggie selection. And the place looks comfortably worn. Checkers are friendly and know many of the customers. The cops stop here to gossip. Near-death bikers and runners who won't last until Bridgeway sit on the benches out front recovering, drinking gatorade and chewing energy bites.

I love this little spot! I used to live within a block radius, and when I first went there and told them I was new in the neighborhood, they asked if I wanted to open an account. (How frickin' quaint is that?) I plunked down $50 and started an account. When I unexpectedly ran into the red, they said not to worry about it & that they even had one guy who owed them $2K. Staff is friendly, and their sandwiches have been raved about by locals for years. I think it's the tasty rolls they use- yum-ee! There's not a huge selection of everything, but they have the basics covered. I find it refreshing to shop in a spot like this- it's a lot easier to grab the one brand of garlic salt they have than to take minutes contemplating the best one at a mega store.

Try the All American sandwich - turkey, bacon and avocado. The Tri Tip is great- Thursday only. Acme bread. Big enough to split. I am not a fan of "lunch meat" but that's fine, because this market roasts their tukey and grills chicken and beef out back.. Robert, the owner, will help you pair your sandwich with a very nice half bottle of chilled wine, although he says the full bottles are a better value!. Bring your sandwich down to one of the benches on the water - try to snag the one at the corner of Richardson and Second Street. It does not get much better than this.

The employee's are nice and good humored. The food is edible - as good of quality as found at Mollie Stone's. Good produce and fresh bread and fish for this little corner store. I'm very grateful that they are so close to my office, otherwise I would probably starve all week.

Poor deli service, again. Having returned after a previous poor experience, this time I ordered two breakfast burritos from the lady, both of which were completely wrong orders in terms of ingredients requested, and also completely cold. Its the last time I will order from the deli. I can almost endure there high grocery prices, but not any more.

maybe it's because the weather was perfect, and we were out playing in the sun on our bicycles on a beautful saturday afternoon, but the sandwich i had from the deli counter (turkey club) was about as close to perfection as i imagine a deli counter sandwich can be. it was overflowing with fresh ripe tomato, cold crisp lettuce, an unreasonably generous hunk of avocado. the turkey was not dry at all and the bacon was warm and crispy. maybe i went in with low expectations-- we randomly stopped here because we were hungry and the sign said "sandwiches". also sitting at the water's edge and basking in sunshine while eating the sandwich probably helped.
