The food is 3.5 stars but with the below average service, alas... it's just OK.

We dined here around 9:30 AM on a weekday and it was pretty empty. My friend ordered the creamy yogurt and granola while I got an omelette with chorizo, mushroom and red peppers that came with a side of potatoes and toast. My omelette was actually quite tasty... They didn't skimp on the fillings, plus with the toast and potatoes, it was totally filling. The yogurt and granola was just OK... I don't know if it was sugarless or organic or what, but it was very bitter. The dish was supposed to have brown sugar in it, but I couldn't taste any sweetness... We ended up mixing sugar into it, but it didn't really help the taste.

I don't know if it was because it was 9:30 in the morning, but unfortunately our waitress was not a friendly one. She had a bit of attitude, plus there were barely any other customers so there's no excuse for not checking in on us. Not cool.

Plus, I thought it was retarded how there was a big panel between the bar and the rest of the restaurant. Our table was right behind this panel - even if we wanted to wave our waitress over, we couldn't because we couldn't SEE and vice versa! So, I liked my omelette but overall it wasn't a memorable experience.

Nothing was absolutely terrible..... but I certainly will not be going back or recommending it to anyone.

Was supposed to meet someone for a short coffee meeting next door at Cafe Artigiano was packed.

I ordered a tall chai and a water and the waitress asked if we would be ordering food. When my friend answered "No, but..." the waitress yanked the menus out of our hands and stomped off before my friend could get out her order. We spent a good 5 minutes trying to flag anyone down before she could order!

When our drinks (and a very sad looking muffin) were finally brought over, the waitress practically dropped them on the table and left with out saying anything. In the hour that we were there, she never came back.

The drinks were tasty, but so tiiiiiiny. I am pretty sure a 'tall' is more than 4 or 5 ounces. And the muffin was very meh. Our water glasses ran empty and remained that way for 30 minutes before we left.

When we were finally done with our meeting, we had to go to the counter and ask for our cheques. It took almost 10 minutes to get it. Of course it wasn't split.

We left very unimpressed, and still thirsty. No wonder there was hardly anyone there.

Why is this block of Hornby such a black hole for food?

After disappointment at Bellaggio earlier in the week, I was hoping to find better dining next door at The Glass City Cafe. This just wasn't my week.

The service was OK, the food was nothing stellar. The price was far too high for what you get. It was all just OK.

I couldn't wait to leave. I won't be rushing back.

It wasn't anything to brag about, that's for sure. I only went here because I was short on time and Cafe Artigiano next door had a massive line up of marathon runners.

They forgot my vanilla syrup in my latte, but when they did add it, I think they use sugar free syrups without even informing me. I prefer sugar-full syrups... personally. Their lemon blueberry muffin was sooooo greasy and you could taste it in there. Plus, it wasn't very lemony, or blueberry-y. It was disappointing. And why don't they have more choices of muffins? This was the only one I saw.

    :-(

Lastly, the girls behind the counter were very unprofessional in their way of speaking in front of customers.

3 stars for the food, 4 stars for the coffee.

We were looking for a quick brunch before a movie and this place had no line-up on Sunday.  Reasonable prices and coffee is great!  Yum - perfect black Americano :)  (I hear it's from Cafe Artigiano next door so that's probably why).

I had the ham and asparagus omelet - I prefer my omelets a little fuller and found theirs pretty bland.  The hash browns were great - very tasty with herb coating.  Small side of fruit and bread.

Good location and decent menu selection but I'd have to say their coffee is what really shines here!

This new addition sandwiched between the Belaggio Cafe and Cafe Artigiano, is just perfect!  While Cafe Artigiano is a bit, how do you say, old-school glam inside, The Glass City Cafe is a marvel of modernity, with glass tables and a large mural in muted, comfortable tones.  I was immediately excited to have found this place, particularly after finding out that they serve Cafe Artigiano coffee...hello?! Never mind the coffee, I've been there, done that and although it is great, I wanted to try something new.  My throat is giving me harassment lately so I ordered a vitamin C -packed freshly squeezed grapefruit juice and goji berry and oat cookie.  I am still savouring the cookie and the juice was exactly what my throat was looking for!

Along with juice and home-made pastries, Glass City does breakfast with, amongst other things, chicken and Gorgonzola omelette's along with french toast and a vegetarian breakfast wrap. Every other time of day is house-made soups (including French onion), salads (shrimp and spinach, summer chicken) sandwiches (chicken and pesto quesadilla, Bocconcini) and hot dishes including lamb with tomato sauce and chicken tikka, almost all under $10 (CAD)!

Clean space with a lot of very comfortable seating, very bright and nicely decorated space. WI-FI is free, but ask for password from the server. The place is owned by same company as Caffè Artigiano, next doors. They serve coffee from Artigiano. The food was OK but wasn't really served warm. And Artigiano's coffee isn't what is used to be.

This is a cute little place, and easily overlooked as you head to Artigiano with caffeine on your mind.  You can just as easily grab a coffee at Glass City, but the food is what I want to tell you about.

The french toast is really great.  The other number of pastries they have look very delectable and I will hopefully ingest some soon!

The decor is modern, streamlined, and very clean.

Take the next-door Café Artigiano, subtract the intimidating line-up and ugly tile-topped tables, then add in some clean decor and you get this sparkling little gem.

We walked into Artigiano last weekend and pull a quick U-ie when we saw the line. All the tables were being saved (you know, when someone has purse on one chair and a jacket on the other, ugh) so there was nowhere to even enjoy the coffee if we did make it through the line.

We left Artigiano and then noticed the understated spot next to it: The Glass City Café. In we trot and order a couple of Americanos. The service was prompt although not overly friendly.

Here my boyfriend and I parted ways as he was headed to rehearsal and I was going home. After two blocks I looked down at my coffee and realized I was holding an Artigiano cup. Feeling like I'd suddenly been abducted by aliens and returned to earth over the last two blocks I called my boyfriend to see if he also had an Artigiano cup. (Ah, the world of cell phones...)

Yeah, he said, they serve the same coffee. Good to know. So if you do go to The Glass City Café, don't freak out when you get Café Artigiano coffee. Don't get me wrong, it's good stuff--just unexpected.

Sitting on the patio at the glass city cafe after a meal of chicken Caesar salad and a coca-cola. The salad had great dressing and even better croutons (croutons make the salad). The patio is great for a relaxing sunny day on a lunch break.

I work in the building above and eat here regularly mainly due to proximity. The food is okay, I guess. They really need to figure out how to use their panini grill so it doesn't just steam the bread and leave grill marks.

I want to really warn people about Glass City. The place is the epitome of a Vancouver "Tourist Trap." At prices like the ones at Glass City, one should expect a gourmet meal and great service, but neither are to be found here. The food is bland, boring and insubstantial. Even the waitresses comment about the crazy prices at this place. For an arm and a leg, you'll get a tiny scoop of yogurt and about a tablespoon of granola, or maybe a doughy pizza with a few shriveled toppings. The sandwiches are soggy and the salads are rotting.

On another note, you'll be guaranteed an annoying chat with the manager, who insists on coming over to your table and bantering while you try to finish your meal. The only enjoyable part of my experience at Glass City were the waitresses, whose snarky comments about their boss made us laugh and sympathize a little. All in all, my husband and I won't be returning, and we hope you won't make the same mistake we did.

After reading Noa G's review about Maple delights I was excited to get my maple on (I'm Canadian..it runs deep) SO we headed off to Hornby street and.... and.... IT WAS GONE!  in it's place stood a cafe called The Glass City Cafe....what the eff!.... now what...ok think people think... I am a scout lets try something new so we headed inside for a morning pick me up.  We order two americanno's and two pumpkin scones.. the americanno's were good (they serve Artigiano coffee) but the scones hardly reminded me of pumpkin... they were kinds dry and lifeless.. they just sat there on the plate...limp.  The decor is nice I luv the glass subway tiles that run the entire expanse of the left wall, the BLIK graphics on the wall were pretty decent as well, and in general it was clean and clear and not a bad place to hang out.  My only complaint is the washroom.  I feel like perhaps they forgot to put in a washroom in the original design and when they got to the end of the renovation they noticed this blunder and decided to turn a broom closet into a bathroom.  This 6'4 guy had a hard time dropping trou in their incy wincy washroom....

stopped in for lunch with our kids, after seeing The DaVinci Exhibit at the Vancouver Art Gallery...wow.

the food was ok, not great, not awful...the home made tomato soup was pretty delicious, but the Smoked Turkey Club and the BCLT were so - so ..nothing super. They could add a bit more lettuce and tomatoes on the sandwiches, instead of the limp single slices. A bit more zing on the sandwiches would be nice, also , the teeny tiny dash of salad was silly. For $10 a sandwich throw on a bit more greens.  Coffee was very tasty and the service was friendly.  We should have taken a bit more time to choose a funky place for lunch with our kids, while letting them ditch school to see a once in a lifetime Art Exhibit.  Next time we're going to try JapaDog??  Kids loved the name...

There is a reason that Artigiano has a long lineup and Glass City right next door does not. This place is horrible. The reheated egg sandwich was hard and crusty on the edges with barely cooked bacon inside The muffin was stale and both of our drink orders were lukewarm at best. The staff were nice though.
