Review from Hal E.
Courtenay, BC
Brother and I stopped in on a Saturday around 12:30pm and discovered they were still serving breakfast!
YEAH!
until 1:00 pm on Sat and Sun.
what a great meal! I had poached eggs, toast, sausage (turkey/pork mix, not greasy) with what was called Winnipeg rye toast. Excellent.
Bro had the veggie omlete.
Presentation was beautiful, fruit slices; strawberry, orange, pineapple.
my coffee was the dark, very good.
the decor is cool/artistic.
I should mention that we took a piece of lemon cheesecake home for our Mom ... we made definite points here today. -

If you are any where near the area, you must must must must stop by. This place feels so good to me. The lady who runs the place is so wonderful and I feel like I could talk with her for hours. She makes all the food and loves to talk about her recipes with you. I ordered the daily quiche ( spinach and cheese) and it came with the daily side soup (chorizo and tomato) and a wonderful salad as well. My sister ordered a sandwich and salad and the salad had the most amazing mango dressing ever! And I don't even freaking like mangos, but I loved this dressing! All the food served here is rich and full of buttery goodness, there are no shorcuts or diet foods. Their selection of desserts also looked amazing but I was so stuffed from the quiche that I had to walk away. The way I see it, a trip to the Island is totally worth it just to eat here :)

What a lovely establishment in a darling town
.
We passed through here on our out of town adventure. We have marked it in our map book so as we can remember to visit it on our next trip to Comox Valley.
Service was delightful. The owner spent a bit of time talking to us about the area and the Bistro & Gallery which she and her husband have spent the past few years renovating. Lots of great history in the building itself and the inside is just beautiful. The owner we spoke with is also a sculptor and painter. Her handiwork and skill was evident in the hammered tin ceilings and accents. There was some wonderfully done pieces around the bar and counters. I wish I had taken more pictures of it.
She was very well informed about some of the local history. It was lovely to talk with her. Wish we had more time to explore the area based on some of her recommendations. There is always next time.
Food was delicious. We were offered a choice between a medium and a dark roast coffee. I picked medium and my honey picked dark. As she explained, they only let the coffee age 20 minutes and then they don't serve it anymore as they only serve fresh. The medium roast was just ready so we started on that and a short while later my honey had a dark roast as his second cup. Lovely.
We each picked a benny for our meal. Both cooked and plated perfectly. My veggie benny with goat cheese was delightful. The salmon benny my honey had was also amazing.
Spent a few minutes after our meal and chat with the owner going through the attached gallery. A lovely space. Can't wait for our next trip through Cumberland.Listed in: FTRs
