I have to update my review and say that, I do actually really love this place.
They are down a star because the food is not great, and the service can be not great, but the place has become one of my watering holes thanks to working at St. Pauls.
It's a great big place, it's got a great patio and there's pool, darts etc. They ALSO have a great selection of beer on tap. Blew my mind the last time I was in there, they have a bunch of local brews on tap, and all for really reasonable prices.
That totally makes up for any bad service or food that anyone could handle on a Friday night.Listed in: Davie Davie

Gone are the days when I lived in the West End and would frequent this place in the summer to sit on the patio, drink cheap beer, smoke and eat nachos but we stopped by here last Thursday evening to have a few drinks with friends. The beer is still cheap, the patio great, and the nachos are pricey but delicious. The place was crowded but the service was quick and (for the most part) friendly. One waiter was grumpy, but when working in the service industry it's hard not to be sometimes.
They had some kind of beer on special, which I had two of and my bill came to $11 even after taxes. Bf and I split the nachos which were so good and enough to feed two hungry people. There was a large group of us so we sat out on the patio, which was covered and heated. Good times! -

Love the service in the upscale looking bare area.
Smiling faces from the patrons and staff all seeming to enjoy themselves.
Coin op pool table as you enter with plenty of room to move around and not get stuck up against the wall on some shots.
Speaking of shots, some of their house specialties have very creative names but not much liquor. Stick to the beer. There's plenty to choose from.
While we did not eat, I love me the Fountainhead and will return for brunch on the patio. -

Lovely atmosphere and not too loud. Service is always quick and very attentive. Burgers and wings are decent for the price. There was 6 of us and none of us can complain about anything. Will definitely be back.

This is one of those Davie Street institutions. Gay or straight this is one fun place to hang out and people watch on their patio!!
Well, as you know the weekend for me means brunch. I decided to give these folks a whirl. Now I have had items from their appetizer and dinner menu. Not bad. Not bad at all. If you aren't expecting gourmet fair, you will be satisfied with what comes your way whether it be fries, a burger or say, a gyro.
Anyway, back to brunch. I have to say it was surprisingly not as greasy as I had anitcipated. In fact, it's neighbor, JOe's Grill, wins in the grease department. Kudos to Fountainhead!
Back to my food! I ordered my standard brekkie: scrambled eggs. hashbrowns. rye toast and to my pleasant surprise, maple sausage!! It was yummy, satisfying and inexpensive.
You can't beat that!Listed in: The West End

three and a half stars..It's an average type of bar, a little sticky with a covered patio and heaters - so it's open all year round. And to prove it, they've mounted the tables to the concrete.
If it weren't for the masses of screens to watch hockey games, the quirky staff, the decent beer selection, and the fact that it's a convenient place to meet up with friends from "the neighbourhood" it would probably score less.
Funny...I've never tried the food here - but it smells good when it wafts by! -

The only place I have gone back to as a loyal client for 9 plus years.
Amazing long term servers, No crappy management, in fact a sweet man
with a heart for the clients he says hi too. Touching tables, talking to clients is a true manager.......!
Food can be off sometimes, hence why i always order our favs, but
thats what you expect for eating out.
We spent pride here, skipped the Parade and had a great time.
A great place.... Do not miss it!

Came in this Friday evening and had a great time once moved to the patio.
Our time sitting at the taps was ok. Would have been better if both bartenders had stayed off their phones (somewhat unprofessional to me considering one was wearing a GM tag). Maybe drinks would have been fuller but no matter as the fire on the patio was really nice.
Worth the wait for the fab patio! Can't wait til they have Winter Ale again! -

An average pub in the heart of Davie street, where you find yourself surrounded by girly men, and manly girls. The staff are wonderfully hilarious and are as quick with their wit as they are on their feet.
On my last visit I had the veggie quesadilla, which was pretty okay. Most of the veggie options on the menu are fries or salad, and they do have a veggie burger, which I haven't tried, because I am just not a huge burger fan to start with - I know, could I be any pickier? The drinks come as strong as the men, and before you know it, you'll be singing like the Scissor Sisters and doing the can can.
Like I said the pub is average, but the clientele and the staff make it worth the trip! -

Good place to watch a game. Good drink menu with mixed drinks and beer. They also have daily specials. The hummus was just ok, kinda boring but the tempura beans with spicy chili dip was excellent! Pretty good service as well.

We stopped in at happy hour for a drink and a snack on their patio.
Beer was good, the food, just "eh."
There were cute waitresses with short-shorts and long-socks setting up mini-beer pong tournaments at the tables around us -- winners got free t-shirts or flip-flops. It was fun to see some of the people around us -- including a 40ish couple -- show off their competitive sides.
Recommended for a pint and for the fun atmosphere, but don't expect fast service or great food. -

Damn good French Onion soup and Fish & Chips! As I couldn't make up my mind, I had one of each: Salmon and Cod. Oh, and while they don't serve my favorite, Kilkenny's Irish, they do pour a perfect pink of Guinness!!!

Situated in a prime party location, the Fountainhead is the go to place in the West End for a few brews and finger foods before heading out for some dancing at the Odyssey or a night at Celebrities, just across the street. Be sure to keep an eye on those lineups!
You don't go to the Fountainhead for the food which is average as far as pub food goes. You go for the fun, relaxed atmosphere, the drink specials, the friendly locals and, in the summer, you go for the patio.
For me, a summer in Vancouver isn't complete without hanging out in Fountainhead's big, covered patio with a pitcher of something cold and a few (or a lot) of your closest friends (or casual acquaintances). It's an easy place to meet new people as the crowd is wonderfully mixed - men and women, gays and straights and in betweens all mingling happily together.
Getting a spot on the patio can be a lesson in patience. Make sure you're added to the chalkboard and you will be called in order.
Tip the wait staff well and they'll always remember you. -

As far as a sweet spot to have some bevvies on the patio and check out the excitment of Davie St I'd say this place is A-OK! The patio has had an upgrade complete with a fire pit! THat makes it a cozy place even if it's not sunny. I don't think I've ever eaten here. Standard drinks.

Review from Megan S.
This is a nice pub, with all the basics: beer, pool, and darts.
Their menu implies to me that they are attempting to be more than that- and I say to them, "Stop- you're good at just being a pub." They have a pretty long list of foods- which I've never tried. I think their menu should fit on a 5X7 laminated card. It should read: "Onion Rings, Mozzarella Sticks, Quesadillas, Nachos, and Wings."
Anyway, I like this place as a pub. It's casual, it's not very crowded. It appears that there are regulars (I'm not one, but I'm judging by the rapport some people had with the staff). It's a nice hang out, but it's not where I want to consume a meal. -

Well,
Is sticky and the food is ... well... kind of ok ... the nachos with artichoke and assiago cheese dip isn't bad.
But there's a WIDE diversity of people there, and that's awesome.
And who can beat a 1 L. bottle of local white wine for $20? -

My go to gay pub spot in Vancouver. It does make me laugh that they identify themselves as an Irish bar. There is nothing Irish about the place. A great spot to go and meet friends for a drink or an appetizer. When I move into Vancouver I see myself coming here on a Friday night for a pint and a game of pool. My only complaint is that their drink prices are expensive. I was charged $13 for a Patron margarita. That is just outrageous.

Drinks here are more expensive than at Moxie's for some reason even though it's a pub. HDTV's all around showing sports. Pool table that you have to fight over. Friendly service. This place is always busy. They have an outdoor patio. This seems to be the go-to pub to drink at in the area.

fan-friggin-tastic brunch spot!
this laidback pub offers scrumptious brunch fare at a totally reasonable price. this spot would definitely hit the spot for a someone with a massive, head-splitting, nausea-inducing hangover. not that i'm referring to myself of course. but should one find oneself in such a situation, this would be the place to go. my french toast was major; cinnamony goodness on a plate, syrup everywhere. perfectly crunchy home fries had just enough spice, and the bacon... well it's kind of hard to mess up bacon. one of my girls got the eggs benny, and they looked delish - two equal orbs of poached egg, smothered in hollandaise and perched on an english muffin. she traded out her canadian bacon for regular bacon, something i mean to try soon.
after a plateful of french toast, bacon, home fries, and three mugs of ginger ale (my personal hangover cure - you heard it here first), i transformed from a slouching, makeup-smeared, greenish, swamp thing that climbed out of the gutter; back to my normal, sunshiny self. and i attribute it all to the fountainhead pub. thank you, you hangover healer from the gods!
PS - randomly really great background music!Listed in: The Great White North

Not sure about the pub grub but the drinks i.e. cider and beer we had were just fine. Mostly it's a great location and atmosphere to people-watch, chill out and watch the line going into Celebrities.

I've been going to the 'head almost every week since it first opened, years ago.
I've tried almost everything on the menu, and it's all great. Brunch is terrific. The Traditional is generously portioned, freshly made, not too greasy, and reasonably priced at $7.75. The hash browns are puffy and crispy and heavenly! Other menu highlights: the Absolut Davie martini, soup specials, Bennies, burgers.
The staff are cool, and there's very low turnover. Older Davie regulars will recognize the manager from Doll & Penny's.
There's a nice mixed crowd.... you'll see trannies, sleepless circuit boys, hungover goths, self-conscious hipsters, middleaged gay couples discussing gardening, Gen-Y Sex in the City wannabes, and just reg'lar folk in for a quick pint and some pool.
There are lots of tv screens scattered about, but they like the house stereo are not intrusive.
It's a nice place to take your parents, as long as your parents aren't offended by large nude oil paintings.
Only took away one star because "Fountainhead" takes too long to text. -
Review from Joey S.
Wavering between 3 and 4 stars. Great people-watching, and above average salmon burger, fries and house salad for a pub. The food was surprisingly good. The side salad was simple, but the ingredients were $15 salad quality. I guess the inattentive service and the somewhat dingy atmosphere tip the balance in favor of 3 stars. Oh, and the fact that I don't really care about hockey, which is all they had on the TVs. Oh, Canada...
