Fancy jewelry? Check. Native American souvenirs? Check. Candy stores? Check. Chinese dishes? Check. What a weird collection of stores!
It was worth poking around the Market for a short while, but as others mentioned, the items weren't great quality or great prices.
Your best bet is to do a quick walk through, and if you're hungry (and it's sunny out), buying lunch and enjoying it on a river-facing bench.
Walk along the path by the river, though; it's much more inspiring than the wacky stores. -

The Forks Market is like a mix of a Farmer's Market, flea market stalls and a Harbourfront area.
It's at the junction where the Assiniboine River flows into the Red - hence the name and it is a lovely spot to check out in the summertime. In the open atrium there are usually music performers, and in the main building there is an international food court and farmer's market-ish gourmet shops selling meat, wine, cheese, etc., and upstairs are individual little shops selling everything from clothing, jewelry to local souvenirs. All of it is a bit kitschy and isn't really indicative of Winnipeg or Manitoba (e.g. Chinese "kimonos"?).
In the adjacent building there is a Christmas store, an Olde Spaghetti Factory restaurant and a toy store (on the 2nd floor).
The area is being renovated at them moment because they are building a new museum. -

I had a few hours to kill before my Hudson Bay Train left for Churchill on this one glorious Indian summer day a few years ago. I spent most of that time outside walking around the historic Forks itself and across the Esplanade Riel into and into St. Boniface (French Quarter) and back.
The Forks is a pretty place to experience history and is located at the intersection of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers. For thousands of years, the Forks has been the meeting place for early First Nations peoples. Since colonization this has also been a meeting place for European fur traders, Métis buffalo hunters, Scottish settlers, riverboat workers, railway pioneers and thousands of immigrants.
The nearby Forks Market has a nice observation tower that helps you put the area into a higher perspective. The Market itself is fun to walk around to browse, to nosh, and to just watch interesting people and hang out. I ended up with a nice bottle of wine for my train ride and a few souvenir gifts for friends and family at home. -

We really enjoyed walking around in this market. Lots of goodies to eat and drink, and nice things to buy for gifts or the home.
Winnipeg is such a great place to visit, and this market is not to be missed on the itinerary.
Pix to follow! This is a very photogenic place. -

I found it a bit overrated. The Market is on the first floor, which has food stalls for a bite to eat, or take home items like bread, fish, honey, and other organic type food products. I liked them, however, I expected more - yet all I saw was lots of candy.
I get it tho, I can see this place bustling with kids and families during the weekend, and it's the perfect diversion.
Upstairs is the crafts part of the market. I was disappointed. Most boutiques were filled with cultural items that could be found on the street markets of the country they came from, and marked up incredibly. I don't like when I know I can buy that opal shell jewerly box for $10 in the old city of Jerusalem, and it's marked up to $160 here, for example.
I did come across a very decently priced jewelery stall called Something Special with all sterling silver bracelets, earrings, necklaces, rings, toe rings with tax included. Studs were $2-3. Bracelets were $10-15. It's nice to see.
I was also surprised by the great amount of Ukranian items around the upstairs.
One thing worth check out is the Manitoba Crafts store. They have some nice pottery and souvenirs.
The restaurant selection is sparse. Either the fast food, super expensive or the Beachcomber (mid range but over priced)
I also discovered a non advertised area, that takes you to the top of the Market to over look the whole area. Unfortunately you don't see much, and it's covered by trees and rooftops.
