Review from Warren M.
Went to Fish House on recommendation of local cruise passenger as best place to try salmon for first time. Very pleased!
Venue is quite pretty though probably even more impressive in daylight.
Hat special of the day which was three different kinds of simply broiled salmon with a Creamy Chorico sauce on the side, four vegetables and an incredible breaded, baseball sized portion or Mac-a-cheese on a roasted tomato sauce. It was wonderful. So many complementing tastes on one plate. A nice local BC wine rounded out the meal.
All in all we were quite pleased with the recommendation. -

The Fish House is one of those restaurants that is proud of its traditional West Coast cuisine, and strives to give its customers an experience that is typical of old-school, upper-crust Vancouver - fresh seafood, great execution, but all-in-all it's perhaps a bit...stodgy.
We arrived at this grand old house nestled in the park and felt immediately charmed. Yes, it's showing its age a bit, but it's charming nonetheless. The staff were friendly and showed us to our table...which was right beside a super loud, super rattley, super annoying heater. Our server apologized for the racket, but apparently that's what you get when you dine in a nearly 90-year-old house.
We started with oysters and cocktails (it was that kind of night), but unfortunately two of my oysters had a ton of shell broken off - our server came by with our bottle of wine and saw me pulling large chunks of shell out of my mouth so she instantly offered to comp them, which was nice.
We opted for the Dine Out menu and I chose the crispy salmon dumplings and the Island bouillabaisse in a coconut curry and my husband chose the lobster bisque with the surf n' turf. Thankfully I had mentioned my dairy sensitivity to our server, who informed me that the coconut curry was in fact, loaded with whipping cream. Whyyy??? Whipping cream in a coconut curry is so unnecessary, and well...kind of a stodgy thing to do.
Feeling slightly letdown, I went with the potato-crusted cod, replacing the heavy buttermilk mashed potatoes with rice, and was totally impressed with the fish - in a word: heavenly. The rice and steamed veggies were as expected - completely plain but nicely-cooked. My banana donut fritters were good, and my husband loved his cheesecake.
All in all, a nice meal - nothing here was innovative or mind-blowing, but you have to give the Fish House credit for knowing what they're good at and doing it well. Wouldn't come back for another date night, but would consider coming here with parents, grandparents or out-of-towners. -

This is closer to 2.5 stars. The food here is OK, I found. The ambiance and the atmosphere is quite nice and it is a bustling restaurant.
The food did not meet my expectations for an establishment of this caliber. Maybe my expectations were too high? Everything was well prepared and cooked using quality ingredients. I didn't find the food too terribly exciting nor flavorful. It wasn't bad, but I think It could have been better. -

Best food ever! I love the service and the best Customer Service Providers are: Jake or John! I love the King Crab Legs and for dessert, Creme Brulee! Yummy!

I recently dined here after a long break from this close-to-home restaurant.
To be frank, what keeps me away is that there's a dated feel to this 'diamond in the diamond' called Stanley Park. The place has so much potential, needs just a little updating, and something to draw more than the local blue-hairs to it's consistent food and beverage.
The bar area could be a great hot spot or meet up place for after work etc.
At present it has a whole row of chairs facing a long slice of swirly, translucent glass (dividing it off from one of the dining sections) instead of taking in the glorious view of that crazy conifer outside and the lush park beyond. I doubt anyone would choose to sit here.
This part of the restaurant is begging for some re-thinking and could benefit the place greatly in so many ways: more varied clientele, sell more drinks, segue to ordering food with those drinks...
but I digress.
The lighting a tad on the bright side; easy, inoffensive jazz in the background.
The evening started off with an appetizer of shellfish, feta and greens flambed with ouzo.
It tasted better than it reads, and I almost ordered another it was so good. $15.
Great wine selection and varied price ranges for by the glass. Had 2 at $9 each.
I defaulted (once again) to the salmon and prawn/scallop skewers, including great sides; I was duly impressed.
Finished off with a boozy house latte. $6.50.
Service was reasonably good too.
My bill came in around $80 and I felt I got my money's worth. In fact this was one of the best restaurant meals I've had in a long time.
With surprisingly few hip or happening establishments in the English Bay / West of Denman area the Fish House has the opportunity to serve the area better and benefit itself as well. I sent them an e-mail about this years ago but things remain status quo. That's ok. I'll be back again someday. -
Review from Letie W.
After a long walk around Stanley Park, my husband and I worked up an appetite and decided to head over to the Fish House. Feeling a bit under dressed (shorts & t-shirt), I held my head high and walked right in anyways. My husband and I were quickly seated in the most corner part of the room despite all the room inside. We obviously didn't fit in. Oh well.
For our late lunch we had the clam chowder (which wasn't thick at all and a bit runny), strawberry spinach salad (surprisingly good), fish and chips (can you say overly deep fried and oily fish-A WHOLE 2 PIECES for $17.95), and grilled prawn pasta. They also serve you some bread with lobster oil and vinegar. You heard me right, LOBSTER OIL. What does it taste like? I'm still uncertain as I couldn't pinpoint the taste. Apparently, it's quite popular here and am sure it has many uses in seafoods, pastas, etc.
Yes, it's a lovely restaurant, but I seriously expected better since the atmosphere of the restaurant seemed a bit more upscale than the regular casual restaurant.
My thoughts? While all the servers were helpful and lovely, I hoped for better food. Just because the presentation of the dishes are beautiful, doesn't necessarily make them good.
Check out my pics.

Great location with a patio. It was instant relaxation, sitting on the patio, greeted and served by friendly wait-staff.
The cesar salad with the parmesan cheese slices was outstanding. The complimentary bread served with lobster oil grows on you ...maybe. My partner and I split the fish and chips and that was more than enough. The beer battered cod was excellent, as is to be expected at a fish house. But the fries made of Yukon gold potatoes were even better. -

I love the location and the food here. Sitting on the patio in the summer is just so de-stressing. In the winter or fall, I like to sit at the bar and enjoy my food with a dirty martini or gin and tonic.
The servers and bartenders are very attentive and friendly. If you're sitting at the bar, they really do make an effort to chat you up and make sure you're ok.
The prices a little on the higher side, but the food is prepared very well. I usually make some time to come here at least twice a year. -

I had assumed that a restaurant in Stanley Park was a money trap for tourists but when their mussel platter came highly recommended by a friend, I had to give it a chance.
We sat on the patio and felt a relaxed vibe throughout the place - no suit and tie needed - and our server (Corwyn) was immediately likable. The restaurant was classy and professional with a sense of ease to it.
Instead of going for a set of entrees, we went for a mix of appetizers. The recommended Sizzling Cast Iron Mussels was 16 bucks and arrived on a sizzling pan with chorizo sausages, pine nuts and capers. I found it best to rub the mussels into the browned butter and make sure at least one pine nut and caper came with it.
The strawberry spinach salad was nice and light with nuts and avocado slices on top. It was the perfect size for sharing between two - $10.95
We also tried the Salmon Frites ($8.75) but couldn't finish them, they were so rich. I still would recommend them for deep fried salmon goodness but share them between 3 for 4 people.
This also came with complimentary bread with a Lobster Oil and Balsamic dip. We liked it so much that we bought a bottle of the oil for cooking at home ($23.81). I thought that was a bit pricey for 375ml of oil and looked online for a cheaper source but apparently the stuff is made right here in Van and can be ordered online for pretty much the same price.
For this delicious experience, I have to give 5 stars. -

Admittingly, I came here as a result of a coupon offer for what was about $12 off (imagine that, for an establishment as popular as the Fish House) and it did not disappoint. The food was up to the standard for its billing and the ambiance of this restaurant has few comparable peers in Vancouver. We were seated at the edge of the comfortable, heated patio, facing full moonlight and a well-lit garden. The value for this restaurant is surprisingly good even without the coupon, as we expected to pay a lot more for the amazing views that were offered. It truly is a perfect dining spot for a midsummer night, and people recognize that - hence, reservations are strongly recommended especially on weekends.
There was a minor hiccup in the service as they had forgotten to ask us whether we wanted bread (which we don't mind, but to do so for the table next to us prompted us to ask them instead), and that they delivered the wrong plate to us on a couple of occasions. That was mitigated by extremely welcoming staff and accommodating service. -

My boyfriend and I went here for dinner last night after someone gave us a Good News (Groupon-type thing) voucher for $40. They weren't going to be able to make it before the expiry date, so we went instead. We ended up paying about $37 with tax and tip, and the meal was worth about that. Maybe less. It was definitely NOT worth what it would have originally cost.
The Fish House, obviously, primarily does fish. Great. The fish we had (sockeye with very little lemon herb butter for me, panko-crusted rainbow trout with a tarragon sauce for him) was delicious, but not mind-blowing. My fish we certainly could have made at home just as well. The veggies that came with our meals were primarily steamed vegetables, with mashed potatoes for me and roasted potatoes for him. Again, not mind-blowing. Why would I go to a restaurant for steamed vegetables?
The location is great and the service is good. But the food is just okay. -
Review from Wayne H.
Classy and gentile, The Fish House makes for an ideal brunch venue. On a clear day, its floor-to-ceiling windows allows sunlight to drench all corners of the dining area. The property is surrounded by flowers, trees and shrubbery, lending the establishment a garden-esque atmosphere. The wait staff, hostess and the bartender were very friendly, courteous and professional.
The brunch menu leaned towards the classy side, offering steamed muscles, freshly shucked oysters (of various species and preparation styles), and an assortment of games and meats.
It's worth noting that the establishment probably isn't appropriate for large noisy parties or families with children, and the price point puts it up there in the fine dining category. Reservation is highly recommended. -

Restaurant in a park? That's for tourists ... It may be but you are missing out if you think that's what Fish House is all about.
After being disappointed at a rather uneventful Pride Picnic in the Park on a beautiful Saturday morning, we forged on along the Seawall. Although we were planning on trying a particular restaurant in mind on Deman for brunch, we decided to check out the menu at the Fish House when we walked passed the restaurant just before English Bay. My partner had never been there and my last time there was probably almost 20 years ago.
After being seated in an intensely sunny spot in the patio, we decided to move inside which was a lot cooler and our table by the window still offered a great view of the park and False Creek. Both of us ordered from the brunch menu. My partner had ham benedicts and I had a 3-egg omelet with 3 filings of my choice (bacon, sausages and shrimp). I made sure there was no vegetable on my plate :) Both dishes came with heavenly pan-fried smashed Yukon gold potatoes. They were crispy on the side and creamy and smooth inside. They were just delightful.
A great place for brunch in the most beautiful park in the city. -

I've been to this place a few times for special dinners over the years and I have always had a great experience. The ambiance is warm yet classical. You can go in your Sunday best or something more casual and still feel at home. If you can, ask for a table by the fireplace in the winter months - there are two available, perfect for couples, and more intimate because you face towards the fireplace and away from the other diners.
With the loss of The Cannery, this is (so far) the only place to find those amazing "Sizzling Cast Iron Mussels" - yes the price has gone up but look at where the venue is - a jump by a dollar and change isn't a lot if you ask me. It's true the mussels are a bit salty and on subsequent visits I just mentioned to the waiter that I'd prefer less salt and it's never been a problem.
The food is fresh and nicely prepared, the portions are generous for a higher-end establishment, and the service is unmatched. For tea lovers, you'll be happy to learn that the teas are served in mini cast iron tea pots that keep the water temperature perfectly. Try the pear tea if you haven't already!
I want to take a moment to mention how wonderful the service is at this place. My wife loves the mussels as much as I do and one time she was unable to join my friend and I when we decided to dine here. To make up for it, I decided to get her an order of the mussels to go so she wouldn't miss out. In the bustle of leaving, I didn't realize I had forgotten my take-out order until an hour later, after I had dropped my friend home. By this time the place had closed and I lamented at the loss of the mussels (and the money spent). As it so happened, I had filled out their customer survey and entry for a free dinner so the restaurant manager called me and left me a message about my take-out but I had missed the call because my phone had been turned off while I had been driving. I immediately called back and the manager told me that someone would still be at the restaurant if I wanted to go back within the hour. He even offered to cook up a new order so I wouldn't leave with cold mussels! I was so impressed and thankful that I only lived 15 minutes away. It didn't feel right to make the staff cook after he/she had probably just finished cleaning the kitchen for the night, so I told the manager that I'd be content to pick up my original container and just re-heat it when I got home. When I got to the restaurant, the manager was so nice and asked again if I wanted a new order and when I declined again he gave me tips on how to best re-heat the mussels (steaming, for those of you wondering). Now THAT is service.
I'll definitely be going back to this place for special occasions. -

The Fish House is a peaceful, lovely traditional spot to have lunch, dinner, brunch or afternoon tea in the middle of Stanley Park. I recommend the clam chowder and poached pear salad - delicious! You can't really go wrong with seafood here, although my pad thai was just ok. (When will I learn not to order a non-specialty item on the menu? I just can't resist Thai, ever.) Bike racks are available in back and I can't think of a more lovely thing than biking through the park and stopping for brunch or tea.

This was one of the restaurants that we went to on my first trip to Vancouver. My husband and I weren't hungry that time so we decided to just order two appetizers and share a dessert. The servers were all very friendly and welcoming even though we made a reservation for two at 9 pm. We were the last people to get a table, but we were still treated nicely.
Their prawn spring rolls were amazing! It was crispy and the prawns were fresh. The peanut dipping sauce that came with it was very tasty too. We Asians love our spring rolls! Their salmon carpaccio is delicious too!
The food is a little pricey but this place is perfect for a quiet romantic dinner. We ordered two appetizers, two desserts and two cocktails and our bill total was about $60 with tax and tip. -
Review from Dan T.
It's hard to fathom why there is a pork belly entree option on their special deal menu. Fine, I can understand that the restaurant wants to cover all their bases, but why would you bother coming to a place called the "Fish House" if you aren't going to be getting fish?
On that note, that is basically all you should be ordering at this place. A good variety of salmon (Sockeye, Coho, pink) is available, and the cedar plank preparation had us all drooling over our neighbour's plate as the smoky fragrance drifted mercilessly over into our midst. I personally did not have the salmon wellington, but the two friends who did could attest to a wonderfully moist and flavourful piece of fish that was not overwhelmed nor suffocated by the surrounding puff pastry.
The BC sablefish was my personal favourite. Although the sticky chili rendition was a nice twist, I was a big fan of the "simply prepared" version. Simply pan roasting it really let the sablefish shine, as it really didn't need much more to make it any more delicious than it already was.
So fill up on the fish and pass on the modest desserts. If you need to satiate your sweet tooth, I'd make the short trip out of Stanley Park and into downtown Vancouver for many other more interesting options. And please, for the love of all that is good and true in this world, don't order pork belly at a place called the Fish House. -
Review from Eva B.
As most know the Cannery Seafood Restaurant has closed its doors. As I was mourning the muscles and the lobster oil I went to the Fish House in Stanley Park as I heard that they now offer these items. They also offer the salmon wellington, but I didn't try it. The long and short of it is I really miss the Cannery. Sorry Fish House your version just doesn't cut it. You reduced the amount of muscles by almost half, increased the price and added way too much salt. The lobster oil is still fantastic, but the bread they used at the Cannery was better.
I've been here before for brunch as wasn't very impressed then either. I don't know if I would go back. Well maybe if I wasn't paying. -
Review from James E.
I did not catch the bartender's name, but he and his family emigrated from Poland when he was but a wee child. Be sure to sit at the bar and order plenty of cocktails! The guy not only pours a great drink but you'll want to spend some time listening to all of his crazy adventures.
The staff is very friendly, even with random crazy people asking for a glass of hot water to drink. -
Review from Beau R.
We ended up at the Fish House for a late lunch, as the Prospect Point Cafe stopped serving lunch at 2pm.
We had just completed a casual bike ride around the park (about 6 miles) with 3 kids, so we weren't dressed for a fancy restaurant, but no one gave us a second look. Had there been some one in a ballgown, they wouldn't have been out of place either.
The menu was great and even had salmon on the kid's menu! The desserts were great - we shared the Buttermilk Pie (sort of like a cheese cake crossed with a creme brulee) and a berry dessert.
The service was great and the food excellent. A great place to eat in Stanley Park if you spent the day there or if you come just for the dining experience. -

The Fishhouse is a bit of an anomaly in Vancouver. It's a great seafood restaurant that seems to only be known to tourists. Most Vancouverites steer clear of Stanley Park except for short excursions and often miss The Fish House and it's great menu.
Being a tourist destination known as much for its teas as its seafood The Fish House has a very elegant, Victorian interior. That's also quite odd for a city that's all steel, glass and brick when it comes to fine dining.
On top of the coziness though is a really great menu that features all sorts of seasonal delights and some solid standbys. It doesn't go too far out of the way to produce anything crazy but the meals are all solid takes on standards.
The one downside of the fish house is the great food costs about as much as you'd think. You're getting premium food for a premium price. That said, if you want some good grub or to impress a foodie with a place they may have not tried , bring them here. -
Review from Sarah O.
Unlike the previous reviewers, I didn't visit the Fish House for the fish. Since having an amazing tea experience in Victoria I'd come to the conclusion that Canada knew tea in a way that American restaurants would never catch onto. I chose the Fish house because it was located in the ever exulted Stanley Park and supposedly served a good Afternoon Tea.
So this past weekend, after hours of driving and in the rain, we stopped by for a nice cup of tea with some yummy finger foods. My friend, who normally doesn't even drink tea, and I had a splendid time. The environment was pleasant, the waiter nice, the food tasty, the tea well brewed and the views were made even more soothing by the rhythm of rain. If I lived in Vancouver I would probably make this charming building a regular haunt. As it was I was 100% satisfied with the light yet delicious respite. They only receive 4/5 because I only visited once (I can't guess at consistency) and because the tea was a bit overpriced. -
Review from Craig H.
My wife and I ate here and loved it. The seafood is excellent, as was the other food we ate. The desserts were very good too. We had very good service and the ambiance was special too.
Next time we are in Vancouver, we will definitely make sure we eat at least one meal and The Fish House. -
Review from Tim Y.
My wife's Sablefish was EXCELLENT and I wish I ordered her. I got the prix fixe menu with the baked haddock (okay), smoked sablefish soup (okay) and Vanilla Panna Cotta (okay). Our Australian Shiraz was very good. I thought the prices were reasonable ($30pp plus drinks) for such a nice establishment in the Park.
They are part of the Reward Dining program (as of Aug. '10) so I unexpectedly got some bonus dining miles because I ate there so that was an ice surprise.
We had very good service with professional staff. It was a good experience and hopefully we'll be back for more sablefish. -
Review from Rich B.
The first impression was the fish house caesar. Any drink that comes with a big juicy plump shrimp can't be bad. They should serve a shrimp instead of a pickled onion in a gibson - now that would be worth trying.
Unfortunately I didn't find the food quite so inspirational. I went for a halibut special, it being halibut season. The sauce was pretty nondescript (I can't even remember what it was supposed to be) and the other accompaniments were ho-hum - a slightly sticky mash, a wedge of golden beet and a couple of asparagus.
The creme bruleé was fine. They didn't make the mistake of trying to do anything with it. Just creme brulée with a leaf of mint. However, the mint leaf was a little wilted and that's kinda how I felt at the end.
It's a great location, though... I'd certainly give it a second chance. -

since i'm in vancouver and i'm in a fish house restaurant..of course i ordered a salmon. it was indeed fresh!

Went with the Wife & her Mother for an 5pm, early Mother's Day dinner. Scenery around restaurant is awesome, Herons nesting and flying in and out add an impressive touch. In brief we had a great time. Food, service and setting were excellent. Our Server, Corwyn, did a great job. Very good value for money, will happily recommend and return.

Very friendly service in a nice environment .
We had the lunch special, halibut & salmon.
Halibut was perfect. Salmon overcooked.
@ 20$ a dish it' ok, but far from excellent.
So, if you walk by, it will remove your hunger and rest you fully, but it will barely satisfy your food lover palate. Don't go an extra mile for it. -

I came here with my family after a long stroll in Stanley Park for lunch. The atmoshpere was really nice, food was okay. The waitress came out with bakery items for bread selection. The apple muffin & scones were really good. So that was a very nice surprise! We order a couple different dishes. The fish and chips was ok, the fish wasn't that fresh. The clam chowder was good and freshly prepared. The salmon salad was decent. The fish was well prepared. The dressing could be a little different. I liked the baked oyster. It was really nice.
The wait staff were helpful! -

confusing parking. beautiful atmosphere. appropriate pricing. clam chowder was 4 stars. grilled salmon & top-notch veggies 5 stars. squash & steamed kale perfect. kale tastes shitty by nature, they made it delicious. addictive comp bread & dipping oils. perfect place for an anniversary.

This place is pricey, but it is Vancouver,
It is a beautiful restaurant, great atmosphere, perfect for a romantic night out.
The service is absolutely amazing.
The oysters, mussels and creme brulee are favourites, and it would be a sin to not try the coconut cream pie. -

According to many a local, my hotel concierge, and friends, this was a not-to-miss stop after a leisurely stroll through Stanley Park. Leisurely stroll being around 5 miles or so..
Which by the end of the last mile, my favorite Canadian, the bf, and I were hungry, a tad frostbitten, and ready for some nourishment. We loved the majesty of SP, and were happy to remain in it's glory while replenishing our energy.
The Fish House has a beautiful view, and even though we were a bit 'dressed down', no one seemed to mind. We enjoyed yam fries, a bit of bisque, sable fish prepared exactly to specification, and salmon. All fresh, and absolutely exquisite. The fish entrees came with a side of butternut squash, which was so incredible I had to ask for the recipe. I now do a 'poor' version of it, which is not exactly The Fish House's, but still quite tasty.
The service, the atmosphere, the company - all splendid. If you are out trekking in Stanley Park, this is definitely a place to feed your body as well as your spirit. -

This is a lovely setting and the menu doesn't hurt either. West coast cuisine which, as the title suggests, includes a lot of fish though there are many other things to choose from too. A perfect date spot.
