I love diners! The expansive menus.... the booths.... the casual atmosphere. I even love the friendly waitresses that seem like they've been around since opening day.

Last night after a not too lucky streak at the casino (well, maybe not so unlucky.... after a l-o-n-g time at the slots I lost ONLY $5) I was in the mood for a "blue plate special".

Great menu and great booths... check...... check.  Unfortunately though, the service was neither friendly nor quick.

I opted for the fish and chips. The portion was HUGE! The fish (battered, flaky, white, skinless halibut) was DELICIOUS! It was accompanied by fantastic skin-on hand cut fries. There were enough fries on the plate for a whole family! The cold slaw (which I had substituted for the dinner salad) was pretty tasteless though.

My dinner companion's half chicken dinner with (REAL) mashed potatoes and mixed veggies was rated as A-OK. I tried more than a forkful of the veggies and they were FRESH, crunchy, and delicious.

There were many great sounding (and looking) desserts to choose from, but unfortunately we were too full.  Next time my gambling experience isn't so sweet I'll have to try one.

Location is perfect. The diner is right next door to the casino. open24 hrs. It's awesome for the all-night gambling crowd.

I wasn't  too happy that I have to pay $14 for my eggs and sausages. But I have to admit, it was a huge plate. There is definitely more than 3 eggs in my scrambled eggs! I like the challah toast au lieu of white bread...even their french toast used challah bread. Regular coffee was "starbuck" price at $2.75. I think the latte was $6.

It was abit of a pricier breakfast but it is at a premium location.

Best pancakes i've ever had. Maybe i got lucky, i dont know but damn good. Crisp outer layer and light and fluffy inside. The maple syrup was great, but then again we are in Canada. The corned beef hash was real chunks of corned beef and the quality was GREAT. I asked for Tobasco and the waiter brought that out along with two house made chili's which was amazing with the hash. One of the best breakfast foods i've had in a long time. Not necessarily different than anywhere, just better quality. hell yea!

Food in this town sucks. And this place isn't much more better than that. Brunch at the Famous was one of the better meals I had without resorting to *gasp* a franchise... Anyway, the casino and the mall are interesting enough, and afterwards you can ride down the incline railway that brings you into the park where you can walk behind the falls$$.

Oh man - based on what Andrew E. posted, I'm glad I didn't get to/have to witness any type of catastrophic meltdown.  Not to be confused with the sandwich, "the melt."

    Categorically:

    Location: 4 out of 5
If you're in the Fallsview/Hotel area, it's a quick walk inside the 'new' casino.  It's actually called, "Fallsview Casino."  Amazing, huh?  If you're in that touristy Guiness/Ripley's area up on the hill a little further north, this place is walkable, but there "may" be better choices there.  Not sure.

    Cleanliness: 4 out of 5
Didn't see anything that annoyed me or made me sick to my stomach.  Since I went on a Saturday mid-morning, I assume everyone was on good behavior.  There were a few gamblers there with free meal vouchers, but mainly they looked like the touristy type, and there were some families with small children as well.

    Service: 3 out of 5
Neither here nor there.  Forgettable, but not abhor-able.

    Food: 3.5 out of 5
My girlie friendy opted for the Canadian breakfast sandwich.  If you're curious as to what this entails, me too.  I think the only "difference" was the type of bacon they use.  Peameal bacon (coated, as the name would suggest, with a very fine layer of corn meal), the usual breakfast sandwich trimmings, etc. with home fries was her choice.  I don't think she was disappointed.  I myself got the Falls Melt.  Pretty good stuff - and generous black forest ham portions.

    Ambiance: 3 out of 5
It looks like a diner.  Inside a casino.  It's unique, just like any other "modern" diner is.  Haha.  All jokes aside, whatever.  The high point of the decor was looking at the celebrities who have vineyards in the area.  Wayne Gretzky Estates, for example...

    Price: 3 out of 5
Eh - 10 - 12 CAD per entree. 4 CAD for a pint of Amsterdam beer.  For being in a casino, I'm sure I've paid more, and I've paid less.

    Overall: 3 out of 5
Perfectly adequate experience for a quick lunch.  It's not somewhere I would go for a romantic date, but it was fine for a pit stop before we took a look at what the Falls area had to offer.

The Famous looks like a retro diner out of some 20s movie & is located right inside the Fallsview Casino complex.  Not wanting to hit one of the various all-you-can-eat buffets, hubby & I stopped in here for breakfast.  The waitress was very quick to come by & offer us beverages & take our order.  I got "apple juice," which tasted very similarly to apple cider, so I'm assuming it was homemade or somethng equally delicious.  For breakfast, I got French toast made with Challah bread & 100% Canadian maple syrup.  It was so mouth watering & filling that hubby had to have a taste.  He enjoyed it far more than his buttermilk pancakes, which were equally as filling.

The prices were average for the area -- ~$10CN/plate.  If we are ever in the area again, I will definitely go back for more.

I arrived in the lovely commercialized Niagara Falls, Ontario after a nice 9 hour voyage from Boston, in hopes of celebrating the New Year in a different location.  We arrived around 10ish and realizing that the hotel restaurant had already stopped serving food, we ventured out to find a meal.

Given our hunger, we set our eyes to the largest brightest place we could see (Fallsview Casino) and figured it would have a place to eat.  Naturally we were correct, and we entered "The Famous" restaurant in the casino.

The place was scattered with a few worn down gamblers mixed with young guys and gals searching for a late night meal.  After searching the B-List celebrities who have apparently dined at this fine establishment, we were seated towards the back of the sprawling barren restaurant.

We sat down and gazed over the menu and quickly spotted the cheap and easy cheeseburgers and were ready to order.  Our waiter eventually stumbled over, apologizing for tending to us so late and saying that he was on the phone and asked us if we wanted to know what he was talking about, a statement he quickly retracted.  He took our order, and I actually said "I hope this meal is going to be enough."  What was I getting into...

This is about when we started to realize the shit-show that was about to happen.  First the food - our burgers came out rather quickly, which was fantastic because we were starving.  But upon looking at our meal, I started to questioned my humanity.  Here I am, an out of towner, not knowing any other restaurants in the area as I stared down at my plate - a pale gray circular disc mixed with shiny, soggy looking gold sticks.  Hamburger and fries.

This was absolutely the worst meal I have ever eaten.  If I wasn't starving and had other options, I would have never eaten it.  The meal was flavorless and it came out later in the toilet.

But the real kicker of our whole visit to "The Famous" was the guy sitting across from us in the booth puking everywhere.  The staff rushed him out quicker than Robert Pattinson at a Twilight convention at a mall.  Hey stuff like that happens. but the girl who was serving him behind the counter ran away and our waiter went over to console her, WHILE THE PUKE WAS STILL ON THE GROUND.  It somehow managed to stay there for a good 10 minutes before someone cleaned it up.  At first our waiter offered to comp our meal.  Fantastic, it was the worst meal anyway.  Then he took back his statement (a common theme for this guy) and said we could have some bottled drinks if we wanted.

This was the worst dinning experience in my life.  My only regret is that I tipped the guy.  I should have gone to IHOP...

Far from a great breakfast experience but comparable in quality and waaay better priced than the local IHOP. Obvious lesser of the 2 evils.

The Famous has the atmosphere of a diner, but its located inside of the Fallsview Casino. This was the last day of our trip and we hadn't had good luck with breakfast. We were seated promptly and the waitress was very efficient. She took our drink orders immediately and came right back for our order. I had the fried egg sandwich and my girlfriend had the buttermilk pancakes with Canadian Maple syrup!! Luckily she just ordered the short stack because they were the fluffiest pancakes we'd ever seen. The syrup looked so good I ordered some for my home fries. Everything was delicious and reasonably priced. Atmosphere great. Service great. Food great. Will definitely go there again if we get back to the Falls.
