I have to admit that I've never purchased anything at The Expedition Shoppe but I have browsed it to see my options and also compare prices.
Their prices are reasonable and they have a lot of jackets and outerwear options here. You'll also find a good selection of durable shoes and hiking boots. They do have other gear but I'm more inclined to go across the street to MEC or down a ways to one of the other larger retailers.
Why? I find the staff at The Expedition Shoppe never really went to the extra step of asking if they could assist me and I think at outdoor shops that's really important.
Don't rule this place and certainly include them in your stops around town if you're going to make a large purchase just to compare prices. -

I dropped into The Expedition Shoppe in search of some new gear for the spring as well as to get some ideas of where I want to travel to next. The place is conveniently located in the heart of The Byward Market but you can miss it if you're not looking for it.
They have an ok selection of outdoors gear, clothing and travel books.
This store must have been great at one time but with MEC (Mountain Equipment CO-OP) in the city you're better off going there for a larger selection of items for a better price. You also don't feel like you're going to trip and break a neck when you walk up and down the stairs at MEC. -

The Expedition Shoppe is mainly a clothing and footware store for outdoorsy people. They offer some outdoor equipment too, but not nearly as much as MEC or Bushtukah. They also have a small selection of travel books.
Their prices are a little high, but so is the quality of their clothing and footware. They offer some great brands of shoes and boots that are stylish and practical for the elements. I've received great service every time I've shopped here, as the employees are always eager to help. When there was a defect with a pair of boots I bought there last year, the manager was extremely accommodating. Definitely check this place out if you're in the Market looking for some good winter clothing. -

The service here is very slow. Perhaps the staff don't multi-task or
over serve one person i.e. someone is getting a fancy jacket for sure so then I'm invisible.
They have a decent selection of outerwear and backpacks and and OK assortment of footwear, but for actual camping gear it's mostly odds n ends i.e stove, water filters, and the like.
Generally, I've never found something here I liked at a good price.
Much prefer MEC (Mountain Equipment CO-OP) for service, selection and pricing.
