Haven't heard of the European Pantry? I can't say I'm surprised. This is one well kept secrets for at-home charcuterists and hosts-with-the-mosts.

It's tucked away in a part of town that always throws me off. Having never lived up on the Oxford end of things, and having never attended the downtown universities, I kept myself sadly incubated from this area that also boasts Fries & Company - a newfoundland-style chippy. But, having been introduced to the glory of the EP's selection by my folks, it's now a must-hit for those casual evenings in with friends when you really want to let your A-Game shine...but casually. A sort of ninja show-offery, if you will.

Toss together basically any selection of their fresh food to go and you've got yourself a winning spread on the cheap without having to stop for anything else other than your wine. Grape leaves, spinach rolls, salads, olives, dips, breads, pita, well - you get the picture. Instant impressification!

    Go, buy, feast!

The European Pantry is like a family convenience store where you can not only buy your necessity items, but also what they are making for supper.
I go here for European specialty food, that your Sobey's or Superstore doesn't carry. So many delicious home-made items, from bread to pastries,  but I come for the dips. These are restaurant quality dips, with my favorites being the tyrosalata and (of course) the taramasolata.
This is a regular stop on the way home from work for me, when I don't feel like making anything big for supper.

Affectionately known around my house as "The European Panty" - just because it's an easy joke - The European Pantry is our go-to place when we want a fresh healthy meal and don't feel like cooking. It isn't a restaurant - it's a bit of a variety store / deli / pre-made foods takeaway with an emphasis on Greek and Mediterranean foods.

And whenever we go, we almost always get the same things - a small, freshly-baked loaf of white bread (so wrong, but so delicious), a big container of fresh Greek salad (the real kind, no lettuce), a container of their homemade hummus (SO GOOD!) and some pita bread. I also love their fresh-baked cookies (just a plain white sugar cookie, piped out into swirly patterns and baked).

But there are lots of other things to choose from, too: spanakopita, stuffed grape leaves, various dips and phylo pastries, fresh olives, feta... and more.

Friendly service. Fresh and tasty food. And you may even stumble upon something you've never tried before.

I was pleasently surprise by the quality of the tidbits that this store has to offer. Having tasted other pastry shops in Halifax, I was a bit sceptical of what I will get. But when I tasted them, e.g. its just blew my mind away. My favorite was the Baclava and the truffles. Baclava was good and you can tell that it ain't you std mass produced type. Truffle was rich and simply melted in once mouth. The spinach rolls was also a delight even though it was cold off the counter and needed to heated up first. I am definitely coming back for more.... Will want to try out everthing available... too bad i only have 1 stomach....

So good I wish they had more stores throughout Halifax!

The European Pantry is great! This is where I go when I want good Feta or Greek Olives in bulk! Their Filo Pastries are also excellent. Basically if you want to get top quality products that are normally found in Europe, this is the place to go. The staff are quite introverted but also very friendly.

But lets not forget their homemade bread. They must put addictive chemicals in there because its not a problem for me to eat the bread until the cows come home. I can't talk enough good about this place to be honest. Their only downside is the fact that they only have one store and I live about an hour bus ride away from them. So I admit, at times I do get what European Pantry offers from other stores. But the minute I'm in the area, I always stop on by The European Pantry to stock up on supplies. You simply won't find this kind of store anywhere else in the city. So please stop reading my review and head over there right now. And if you have a car, pick me up so I can do some grocery shopping to.lol

It's not often that I'm near the European Pantry; but when I am, I make it a point to stock up on some of my favorite Euro-inspired goodies.

"The Pantry" (as I've been apt to call it) has a variety of authentic foods ranging from Greek and Italian olives and olive oils, to an assortment of fine cheeses including feta. (I'm a fan of homemade Greek salads, so I get my feta and olives here- fresh, wholesome and the real deal!)

There are also a wide selection of tasty spreads available at this store, which I find very useful when hosting house parties- the dips and spreads are always a hit with appetizers!!

Also, when I feel the need for Euro-inspired indulgence, and eating on the fly, I like to sample the baked products that are available and ready to eat (HIGHLY recommend the spanokopita- best I've had in Halifax!)

Bottom line: if you're in the area, be sure to stop by.

True story: we almost rented an apartment within a block's range of this store -- and the store was a big part of the reason why!  (Another was the laundromat adjacent to the store.)

The European Pantry is a nifty little oasis of imported foods on the corner of Connelly and North, near the intersection of North and Connaught.  Parking is sketchy, but if you can find a spot it's worth heading inside for a look.

Ducking inside the door, you see rows upon rows of imported foods - cookies from the Netherlands, olives and olive oil from Greece and Italy, candy from Britain and herbs from various sources.  We found a huge bag of oregano priced amazingly low.

Once you've made your selection from the imported goods, check the front case for home-made delicacies like spanokopita and dalmades, among other ready-to-eat concoctions.

If there's one downside, it's that the front case goods are priced a bit on the high side.  It's definitely not something you'd be doing every week, but for the occasional treat it's completely worth it.

What to say about " The European Pantry". It is where you will find the Best Olives, Best Feta and Best Cheeses.

We often get a loaf of bread, Smoked Goat Cheese, pepperoni, and spiced jelly.

I have to limit our time in there, or we would be buying everything for a once try. It really is the best, both quality and service. I am sure there will be something to satisfy your appetite , be adventurous.

While on my way past this unassuming little shop today, I decided to pop in for a snack. There are lots of freshly baked goodies, from spanakopita to samosas, with lots of sweet treats in the mix as well.

You can find specialty groceries at The European Pantry, as well as some of your day-to-day essentials. In the back of the store you will find well-priced cheeses, of the manchego and extra-old goat's milk persuasion, along with a plethora of other varieties.

I purchased a small container of tirosalata, a feta cheese spread with olives, garlic and onions, as well as two good-sized pieces of spanakopita. The spanokita was a nice snack, inexpensive and fresh. I have yet to try the tirosalata but it smells delish!
