If you like omelets and frittatas, then The Egg & I is your place!

    Pros:
    - Amazing service
    - Fantastic, flavorful food
    - Good prices for good portions
    - A large menu with a big variety of breakfast and lunch items
    - I don't drink coffee, but my friends who have gone with me do and you get a giant pot on the table
    - When you go for the first time, ask for your "first timer" gift

Cons: (I only have one and it's a tiny one!)
    - I've been to two locations and it's always a little warm inside

The Egg & I is definitely worth a visit!

Eggs ... eggs benedict, eggs omelette, eggs idk what else...
They have lots of variations of eggs benedict, which is good. But they should upgrade the menu some... like instead of regular HAM, use prosciutto or a garlic english muffin, ya know what I mean?
You have all these eggs on your menu, might as well fancy it up a bit !

My eggs benedict  came smothered in hollandaise sauce. A little too smothered for me (next time I'll just ask for it on the side).

But it was still really good, and overall this is a solid 3.35 stars, since I love breakfast for lunch, dinner, or even breakfast!

I love the fact that they have a meeting room you can use for free. I had a work group of 11, but I think you could comfortably have a group of 20-25 people. All you have to do is order food.
I had an egg white omlet since I'm watching my girlish figure. It wasn't a easy choice to make though because so much on the menu looked good. Most of my coworkers ordered pancakes, waffles, or french toast. Everyone was very content, especially my coworker with the cinnamon raisin french toast.
They have several seasonal offerings. For fall it includes cinnamon nutmeg coffee (YUM!) and pumpkin pecan pancakes. I think I'll come back for those.

Only one small gripe: I ordered an egg white omlet. When I asked if the accompanying english muffin was whole wheat she said no. They gave me whole wheat toast instead. That was perfect, but if someone is making those very conscious healthy choices, why would I want the toast covered in butter? I know that's a picky detail, but that's what would have bumped them up to 5 stars.

No one had the lunch food, but for breakfast it's a great option.

I've never actually eaten in the restaurant. My bf and I have placed to-go orders a couple times on the weekend when we're headed out of town.

They always have our order ready to pick up in less than 15 mins and it's still hot.

The order we picked up today was especially great. I ordered the Mediterranean frittata - eggs, sun-dried tomatoes, chicken and yummy cheese. It was delicious - and like most portions in Houston - way too much food for one meal! This item was featured on the "lighter" options on the menu. I'm not sure how it could have been light because it was so tasty! It came with fruit and toast.

We will definitely continue to place our to-go orders, but I doubt we will ever eat at the restaurant. It always looks so busy on the weekend and my man is not very patient when he's hungry! ;-)

This place is my "almost" Kerby Lane replacement. If you have ever been to or lived in Austin, you know what I am talking about. This service is ok. Friendly folks working for a living. Food is not your average chain breakfast fare, but a rather spiced up selection for all diets. This will be my go to breakfast place. That is of course till Kerby Lane decides to expand to Houston. ( This will never happen but I can dream.)

The BF and I were super excited to finally come here and try out this place. Brought my mom and the kids as well.

The Waitress was very courteous without being too attentive. The bad part was the wait, it was a Thursday morning and as I looked around everyone was being served except us. ( I did notice other people were looking around, a little concerned, but then did get served eventually before us). Overall, SLOOOW service.

We ordered eggs Benedict, waffle/eggs/sausage for my mom, and two kids breakfasts as well. The eggs Benedict were good, the sauce was not all over my muffin so it wasn't soggy, it was perfect. They come with ranch potatoes, which were really good as well. My mom said that her waffle/eggs/sasauge was just  "OK".  The BF got the eggs Benedict Parisian, which come with a croissant instead of the muffin; he didn't like that the Benedict sauce was not overwhelming. He as well thought it was just "OK". The kids waffle combo has good portions, they devoured it :)

If you are curious, try it out, you might as well be lucky and have a better experience than us!

Finally got to eat here. When you see people standing outside the place you know it must be something good inside. The frittatas had the hmm factor that I like. The coffee was great and service was good. The roasted potatoes were good. At most places they are just there for decoration.

First time eating here.  The Parisian Eggs Benedict and Apple Cinnamon Granola pancake were excellent.  Service was friendly and prompt.  And extra appreciation to my server, Theresa, who admitted she was new and yet did a splendid job.  I will eat there again.  The line to get in is long, and there's good reason for it.

I like to call it a "fancier IHOP." The atmosphere is like IHOP. The servers are similar to IHOP. The pay system is like IHOP. However, the food is slightly upgraded (as well as the prices.)

I loved my dish. It was a special: pumpkin waffle express - pumpkin waffles with brown sugar butter (i think). My hubby loved his eggs benedict.

Service was a bit slow and it took a while everytime we had a request, but then again, it was a Sunday brunch, so it was somewhat reasonable.

The hostess gave my son a baggie that contained a plastic bib, a moist-wipe, and a cracker. They had coloring pages + crayons as well.

It's nice that they had free coffee in the waiting area.

I would def come back and try their other platters (or the pumpkin waffles again next winter).

This was the worst breakfast experience I've ever had. Our wait for a table for a party of 6 on a Saturday at 10 was reasonable but the wait for our food after we ordered it was unacceptable. We waited for almost an hour for our food to arrive. When it finally came it was mostly wrong (multiple items that were listed on the menu were just left off of the plates) and tasted very average to below average. When the cashier asked if everything was ok I told her that it was "ridiculously slow". Her response, "Yeah, it's usually like that." Save yourself time and frustration by passing this place up. There is a Dennys just down the way.  I am writing this review 6 hours after our meal and my stomach is still queasy.

I have really actually enjoyed my breakfast at the Egg & I, despite some previous reviews I read. I guess everyone just has different experiences and different points of view. The staff was very courteous, the food was prompt and delicious (very fresh I might add). The decor and interior was tasteful, not dirty or unsanitary in my opinion. I like that they had a daily special at a discounted price, very nice. Will definitely frequent this establishment more often.

My friends and I love having brunch here. Both the food and the service are good. It does get a bit crowded on Sunday mornings, but that will happen at any good breakfast restaurant.

"Fancier ihop sounds about right" sounds about right!!! The best part of breakfast was that the hostess was really sweet. Service so so! Probably won't be coming back.

I had the ranchero eggs - which were very tasty - the waffle was bland and the syrup was cold; I'll try their pancakes next time.  The coffee was weak.  There was quite a few items on the menu that looked very good - will give try them next time.  The wait staff seems young and inexperienced - some of the tables are very small.  I did like that they bring you a caraffe of whatever beverage you order.

Perhaps my expectations were set a little high by coworkers and friends on this place. Walking in, it was clear that this was marginally more fancy than a Denny's or an IHOP. Coffee- awful, tasteless, possibly burnt. Holy shit- who messes up coffee at a breakfast restaurant. My food was a disaster- it seems that they can also mess up an omelete. I got the spinach, bacon, and mushroom omelete topped with hollandaise sauce. The omelete was lazily folded over, not cooked like a real omelete should be, and all I could taste was the overwhelming butter in the hollandaise. About 20 minutes into our meal, the waitress put our bill on the table. Oh shit- this is where I really wanted to go ballistic. Its that kind of place folks- truckstop-esque. We won't ever return, I would rather eat at Denny's.

I went in to The Egg & I (on I-10 across from Mem City Mall) on June 11, 2011 for a to-go order since it was 11am & the nearby fast food joints stopped breakfast already. 2 parties were in the lobby to be seated by the hostess. I walked to the cashier station & picked up a menu. I waited for the cashier greet me and/or take my order & I was blatantly ignored. Granted, I wasn't dressed up, but I was not at the hostess station asking to be seated. I stood in front of the cashier waiting to order out for about 2 mins. Mind you NONE of the employees acknowledged my presence as I (all 5'10 of me) stood waiting to place a to-go order.  A family who had finished dining walked up to pay & the cashier checked them out politely. To avoid causing a scene since I was hungry & pissed I just left. I called the manager, told her about the lack of customer service and she offered to give me free meal if I came back. I did & even with the meal being free, I was still disappointed. The food did not taste fresh & it was quite bland. I'll stick with  Cracker Barrel for "home-cooked tasting" to-go breakfast. Overall, IMHO, The Egg & I is the equivalent to IHOP & Denny's in terms of food quality and service it just has better upkeep of the facility.

Nice spread on their menu with decent service as with any breakfast joint. I love breakfast food and I also love eggs benedict. I would definitely return to get my breakfast food fix.

The food is mediocre, but the service is terrible. Waitress came to our table, got our drinks order, and never came back to get our order or to even deliver our drinks. With this kind of service, this location will soon fall apart and close down.

Food was OK, nothing to brag about. As soon a I ordered the Sante Fe Huevos "over easy" and the server said" over medium" I should have changed my order to scrambled eggs. Of course they came hard, so I sent them back and the new ones came back barely cooked. Never had this much trouble before. Where I live they aren't afraid to make over easy and they actually make it so it is edible.

It's hard to find the words to describe the incompetence of the staff at this location. We ordered to-go over the phone. When we arrived, we waited 10 minutes for the hostess to get off the phone and take care of the people in front of us. When we finally got up to the register, we said we'd placed an order to-go, and she responded by attempting to seat us. No, we said. To go. Oh, she said. Ok. We wanted to add a to-go iced tea. Sure, she said, I'll get you silverware, too. Then she hopped back and forth for a minute trying to decide whether to seat the gentleman behind us or go get the iced tea. Finally she sat him down and disappeared for another ten minutes.  We checked our order, which was wrong. I wanted a side salad, not soup. Finally the hostess returned with silverware and the iced tea and (for some reason unknown even to God) armfuls of ketchup packets. By this point we just wanted to leave. Bad move. When I got back to my office, I found they had only given me HALF of my sandwich. I ordered a sandwich. I paid for a sandwich. All I wanted was a goddamn sandwich, and you're going to give me... half a sandwich. Half a COLD sandwich.  Do you huff paint for fun? Are you actually retarded? Because I'll support that, but you have to let me know, so I can lower my expectations appropriately. I'd recommend setting yourself on fire before I'd recommend this place. I won't be going back.
