I really like this place.  All-American, casual diner with a laid back feel.  Went on a Sat. morning to meet some friends.  We got there around 8:30 and there was already a bit of a wait and by the time we left the place was packed.

Flavored coffee of the day was Roasted Pecan and it was amazing.  The flavor of the day is often seasonal.  Someone in our group also ordered the fresh OJ and it looked and smelled really good.

I ordered the Parisian Benny with Ranch Potatoes.  it was really good.  I would recommend any of the Benny's.  The waffles looked large and good.

Downside: A little overpriced, very busy on the weekends.

This place is an all-american style diner with the normal breakfast fare.  My husband ordered poached eggs which he really enjoyed.  I can't really order a whole lot from their menu so I'm limited to their oatmeal which is water based rather than dairy based.  It is good but it lacks some needed seasoning.  The berry oatmeal one was a better choice.

The waiters are always great and there is a line every weekend.  Their juices are pretty good that they offer-not too sweet.  It's worth a pop in because it's such a bustling diner.

A huge variety of breakfast options with some good lunch options too.  As an added bonus, both breakfast and lunch are served anytime the restaurant is open.  The waitstaff is efficient and friendly without being overbearing like some chain restaurants.

The food is definitely above average, although slightly higher priced that some of the chain breakfast/diners.  Then again, the decor and quality are also nicer than the run-of-the-mill chain places.

The biggest minus in my book is the fact that they're not open much beyond a late lunch.  Definitely a go-to option if you're craving breakfast.

Met my good friend Cindy here again on Friday.  I always get something from the breakfast menu even though I come here at lunch.  Their food is always good in my book, nothing over the top, but then they don't overcharge to begin with.  Except this last Christmas the pumpkin waffle was an over the top taste sensation as a season's special and will alway remain in my memory.  I mainly like the atmosphere here.  It is kinda like a diner feel, but I always just come here and enjoy my meal and enjoy the company I am with.  You never feel rushed although seating is usually always full, but somehow you never have to wait for a table.  They have a premium flavored coffee featured everyday.  I like the pecan flavor when they have it.  They do run special plates, and if it is a dish you would like you usually will be very pleased if you order it.  For example, the pumpkin waffe.

I really enjoy dining at Egg & I but be prepared for sticker shock when you receive your bill. The average price for two with tip can exceed  $30.00. This is the reason I don't eat there very often. The interior is an old style grandma's kitchen look. The food and coffee for breakfast are about as good as you can get.

    I gave this a 4.
To be honest it is a 5 considering there is no other good breakfast restaurant in the area.

    pros:
decent food menu selection and taste
    clean ambience
    waiters are friendly
    not  a bad price

    cons:
wait time is bad and that annoys me when i go there on a saturday morning.
    coffee sucks.

A solid 4-star restaurant. One of the only good, non-corporate feeling restaurants in the area for breakfast, The Egg & I has a huge menu and great service. Coffee and soft drinks come in their own carafes, so there's no waiting for refills. Expect a 10-20 minute wait if you come around 10am on the weekdays, and up to 45 minutes on weekends. Service is quick and friendly though. I'm a big fan of the scrambles and egg sandwiches, although the bread is too buttery (and almost Texas Toast) for my taste. The prices are a bit high, but you definitely leave full.

Started with the dark roast coffee.  Very nice.  Ordered the English muffins. Mather came so fast and had nice warm melted butter.  This was getting better and better.
I was hoping to order the chocolate chip pancake, but I could not find them on the menu.  When I ask the waitress, se was too happy to have the chef make me some.
It was huge!  Stuff with melted chocolate.  To top it off was an ice cold glass of milk.
What a way to start a weekend morning.
    Thanks.

The Egg & I is basically in the same genre as Le Peep -- breakfast at a more elevated level (and price) than IHOP.  E&I has a broad menu, including many good healthy options, and their service has always been excellent on my visits.  Kids menu is reasonably priced, to reduce the pain level slightly when dining with the family.  I lean towards the skillet dishes (which are large without being ridiculous), but the omelettes, waffles, and pancakes have been good as well.  A good choice for breakfast in this area.

Great place to meet for breakfast / brunch.

I've mostly ordered eggs of some type and always enjoyed the food and atmosphere.  The service is very good.  I've enjoyed the various coffee flavors seasonally.

My husband and i usually take home a bottle of A-Yi-Yi Hot Sauce.

    Highly recommend!

I usually love this place, actually had made it a regular stop on Sunday's.  About 3 Sunday's ago, my wife & I go for breakfast.... there is a huge line (about 45 min) but that is to be expected.  What isn't expected is the half-butt service we got, food came out cold and in two sections.

I ordered the veggi-Benedict, i only take 1/2 order, and even that was cut in half.  The country potatoes were a kids portion, coffee was cold.  Its the worst experience I have had here.  I know they were busy, but that's no excuse.

Only reason I have given it 2 stars is the food is usually good, but who wants that coin toss when you go out?

Egg-tastic! I am an avid egg lover...so my egg eating experiences must be up to par. The Egg and I was delicious! I ordered the Crabcake Eggs Benedict (which really hit the spot! The poached eggs were cooked properly) The hollaindaise  sauce was good and not too buttery. I also shared the French Toast (I could have passed on that bc it tasted like regular bread to me with Cinnamon and Powdered Sugar sprinkled on top...should have gone with the chocolate chip pancakes instead) with my foodie buddy.

The wait was like 10 minutes long, but that's to be expected since it was a Sunday and its busy. It took awhile for the server to come around too. She was very helpful to make suggestions too. It was a DELIGHTFUL experience. I'll come back next time and try out the breakfasts that come with croissants.

Waitress was immediately attentive even though she was on her way to another table. This great service continued throughout the meal. Great breakfast on their light menu - the Egg Byte Omelette (egg whites, spinach, mushrooms and tomato on mine) comes with salsa on the side, fruit and English muffin. Restaurant was very clean. Seemed a little pricey including the coffee, but it was very good!

Cold, windy morning. Cold breeze each time the door opened.

OK, that's off my chest. Had the Corned Beef Hash and two eggs over easy, with sourdough toast. Served quickly, hot and tasty. The coffee could be a little better, however.

All in all, a good, hearty meal for less the $15.00

The Egg and I is great for breakfast or lunch but I can't come here and not get breakfast! This place makes fantastic omlettes and their french toast is amazing and you must try their ranch potatoes (which comes with many of their breakfast plates), so delicious!!! I do admit I've had some on and off meals here but you have to be in the right mood for the right meal.

I've been meaning to go to the Egg & I for awhile and this morning was the perfect opportunity. I actually swung by IHOP and saw that there was a ridiculous line. In retrospect that was a good thing.

I had a really good white egg omelet with fresh fruit and whole wheat toast and a never ending supply of Diet Pepsi. The waitress left a big carafe of Diet Pepsi in front of me after filling up my glass a couple of times.

The presentation of the food was really nice. Even though the place was very busy I was seated right away.

A parallel that might work for you when choosing a breakfast spot. IHOP = Wal-Mart. The Egg & I = Target.

The Egg & I gets friggin' insane on weekends. And with good reason. There's very little in the way of brunch spots in the area outside of IHOP and Denny's.

Overall, the food is consistent and good. It's hard to go wrong with anything on their menu. You get all things egg-related, natch, but you can also find sandwiches and soups alongside the normal breakfast fare. The omelets are huge as are the scramble platters.

The only thing that would make this place complete is a spicy bloody mary, but it's a chain so I imagine they want to keep costs down by not providing liquor.

I've tried their chicken salad sandwich and it's quite good. It's served on toasted raisin bread, which at first I was like, "Huh?" But it actually turned out to be a nice combination. I had to eat it open faced, however, because they stuff so much chicken salad in between the slices that it's hard to wrap your mouth around it (that's what she said!! Sorry, couldn't resist).

Don't go when you're starving, however. Even though it's only eggs and you'd think it'd take no time to make it, getting your food takes FOREVER. Every time I've gone, it's taken them a really, really long time to bring our food out. But the service is so jovial and accommodating every time that I forgive the long wait times.

This place has really good service in my opinion, our waitress was friendly and accommodated our growing party as people kept coming. I believe we ordered 3 times in 15 minutes. The food choice was better then IHOP/Denny's as it seemed to have more specialty dishes.

I basically got a cranberry, orange juice blend, a large omelet with potatoes and 4 wedges of toast with tip and tax was about 14$. I would go again, but maybe next time i wont get the biggest most expensive omelet in the house!

Overall best breakfast in the Harris County area! I love eggs and anything breakfast and this restaurant has it all! I love coming here with family, friends, visitors in town! The sausage, biscuits, and gravy are beyond belief, they mastered this authentic Texan dish!!!!
The service is great, especially, Rebecca is a great waitress by the way! She is so nice and she provides such great service, I just had to tip her extra, which I usually don't do very much!
Overall I always enjoy my breakfasts and brunches here and I will keep coming back again and again!

Living in NW Houston, meaning not much brunch selections nearby (unless you consider IHOP & Denny's "brunch" spots), I was very eager to finally try Egg & I.  After having passed by several times, I knew my GMaps directions were straying me the wrong direction when it showed Egg &  I on 249 & Hollister.  After phoning the establish, I was finally headed the right direction.

Luckily, I was able to convince my party members to share plates to allow a more extensive tasting.  We ordered the Chocolate Chip Pancake (definitely more than enough for one person) & the Egg-ceptional Omelette.

Chocolate Chip Pancake: Served with syrup, a heap of whipped cream & drizzled with chocolate syrup deliciousness.  This was definitely worth ordering!

Egg-ceptional Omelette: Served with potatoes & toast.  This was very tasty, especially with the Egg & I-Yi-Yi pepper sauce.

Service wasn't bad, but wasn't the best.  We were seated without a wait & served a carafe of iced tea, which meant no going thirsty.  I will definitely be returning to this place to try more items from their extensive brunch menu, including their frittatas!

Everytime I visit my sister in Texas, we got to this location of the Egg & I.  Always a long wait on the weekends so get ready for that.  This is your typical Denny's/I Hop type of place- nothing out of the ordinary just typical breakfast food at a good rate and decently fast.  Service has always been great, no complaints there.  Family friendly too!

For the place to be called The egg and I, you would think they gave good eggs.. lol

After all this hype with my co-worker about how good this place is at breakfast, I had to give it a try.

Call it mediocre, call it anit-climactic, or call it just ok; it didn't impress me. Service was great on the other hand can't complain about that.

I have no idea why this place was so crowded. Our friends said we "had to try this place". I was pretty excited. Once the food arrived the excitement ended. As far as I can tell, there is absolutely no difference between this and ihop/dennys/waffle house.

    Typical bland suburban food.

I had some kind of chile rellano omlet. Canned chiles? Sour Cream? Green sauce thickened with corn starch?  Kill me now!
This is Texas, not Nebraska.  What kind of nonsense are they trying to pull?

A 40 minute wait for this kind of mediocrity was a real disappointment.

I happen to be driving around and pulled this location/place up through my lexus assist for a place to eat breakfast. When I got here the 1st time there wasn't a wait, tried their Benedict, and LOVED it...  when I returned the second time and there after, there was usually a short wait, wonder why, dude this place is awesome, they use real eggs and make everything to your liking. I have tried the banana wheat pancake, breakfast skillet, great coffee (different everyday), great specials (haven't gone wrong with their daily specials yet)

I have mixed feeling about this place. Sure, the name is cutesy and the place is always packed on the weekends. But, in my opinion the food is mediocre but plentiful and pricey.

    The Complaints:
    - No mimosas.
    - I feel the waiters are always rushing me out of there on the weekends. It's as if they're carrying a timer!
    - The waiting area is very small and fills up quick on the weekends. Standing room only - keep that in mind if you're elderly or disabled.
    - The sausage patty. Yes, a patty. No, not links - not sausages. A patty. It's not greasy enough and honestly, tastes weird compared to those juicy, moist and plump sausages you get over at iHop.
    - The Wi-Fi is turned OFF on the weekends. Yes, you heard me right. They have Wi-Fi and the management intentionally disconnects it on the weekends because they believe it would cause people to loiter too long, browsing the internet, while other famished families are waiting to be seated. This is too bad in my opinion because it would lessen the pain while I'm the one waiting for 20-30 minutes to be seated on a Saturday/Sunday.  And seriously, no one brings a laptop to work on the weekends. In my opinion this is a poorly thought out "knee jerk" reaction. But they went as far as to print a sign and post it on the glass in front of the restaurant so I think this decision is here to stay.

    The Compliments:
    - The bathrooms are always clean and pristine.
    - The service is spot on
    - They serve Turkey Sausage patties - for those who want to stay heart healthy.
    - They serve free coffee in the waiting area

Overall - if they turned on the internet on the weekends (the only time I eat there) and served sausages in sausage form and not patty, I would definitely give this place an additional 2 stars.

Better than a small town cafe on my menu of "gotta try this place".  My favorite meal is breakfast and I'm hard to please but The Egg and I is always a slam dunk.  The feisty Benedict is a buttery croissant half spread with jalapeño cream cheese then topped with diced grilled chicken, bacon, two poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. That is the restaurant description and it was perfect so I copied it.  The hollandaise sauce was a bit salty for my liking but I still give this place 5 stars.  (if you aren't a fan of salty foods you may want to ask for half the hollandaise sauce).  It is served with a side of ranch potatoes which could use some grilled onions to be perfect but still good. The raspberry granola pancake is served with strawberry yogurt instead of sugary syrup and its the best compliment I've ever had to a pancake, why hasn't someone else thought of this before?  The one downside besides a long wait if you come too late in the morning?  Every time I have been it's been so cold inside that I have learned to bring a sweater and I'm not the only one.  I see a lot of folks sporting them.  They must be regulars.

Went here for breakfast with my wife for the first time this Saturday.  The wait was about 10 minutes, not bad for a breakfast place on a Saturday morning.  The hostess and wait staff (Tanner) were great, friendly and hospitable.  The breakfast was nice, probably a couple of steps up from Dennys and IHop.  The menu was very complete and lots of great choices. I had the Flapper (two eggs, sausage and pancake), which was very good, the eggs cooked perfectly, good tasting sausage and a huge fluffy pancake.  My wife had the veggie benedict that was just Ok the hollandaise sauce was a bit on the thin side but the flavor very good.  The only complaint on the dish was that the veggies were basically just sautéed and on the side of the dish rather than nicely incorporated into the benedict.  However, the noise level was awful we basically had to yell at each other across the table to have a conversation, not the way I really want to have a breakfast with my wife.
