This place is simply amazing. I paid $2.50 for a good quality Edge Brewery beer and $11.00 for the most amazing Vegan Pizza with Soy Cheese I have ever had. The best thing of all was that it tasted exactly like normal cheese without using animal ingredients (Soy Cheese).
I also loved the no cover on Friday and the tunes the DJ was spinnin' were amazing too. The crowd was however very sparse but still hip and cool.
I've also heard that the Vegan Chili is too die for. 5 Stars for a Pub that supports Veganism!
I'll be back. This place deserves as many stars as I can give it! -

I haven't tried any food here, just went for drinks late on a friday after bouncing from another bar.
Don't think I'd go here again. Next door to sketchville and too hipsterish a crowd for me.
No cover is nice though. -

I'd been looking in the windows of this place under construction for a few weeks and was eager to try it since I walk by every day. It just opened 4 days ago.
Being a half block away from my back door in Gastown, it's ultra convenient, but then again so is everything else in Gastown including my favorite Pourhouse. To give them credit, On The Edge really is on the edge - it's pushing the geographic boundary of places you'd consider going in the Downtown East Side.
I didn't eat so can't comment on that, but they serve Granville Island beer which is decent. The decor is new but already outdated - nothing special - just some granite countertops and wood, some leather chairs, etc. pretty boring but functional and acceptable.
Service was OK, again didn't stand out against other Gastown establishments.
Overall, I'm sure I'll be back to On The Edge to support that geographic boundary moving, but I'll probably go by myself... in good company I'll head the other way.Listed in: A Gastown Jaunt

My office is in the area and I had never heard of this place. Looking for a place to watch the Olympic opening ceremonies, we went in with a large group.
Comfy padded chairs, lots of TVs plus a big projector screen, big tables. It was a fantastic space to be watching the ceremonies from.
There is an extensive beer list with lots on tap. The food is definitely more than pub food, and the portions are gigantic. The 2 foot long meatball sandwich is not a joke: 6 people ended up having a taste of the one I ordered. -

Last Thursday I went to the Edge pub. I will not be going back. I'm not sure if it was the fact that the fries with poutine distinctly tasted like calamari or the fact that my vodka and 7-up tasted strongly of celery salt rimmer (you know, the kind used for caesar's). Either way, the food was bad and so were the drinks.
This place is quite inexpensive and I think they are trying to hook people in with low prices and appy specials...what they should be trying to hook people with is tasty food! Specials don't do it for me if the food isn't even worth it!

A bar close to sketchville that sells $8.25 pitchers? WHAT? I likes very much. It means not everyone will make the trek and that's good for me! But honestly, it may be close to sketchville but I felt completely safe in the area.
Came here on a Friday night at 9pm and the place was EMPTY. Crappy if you're looking for a "vibe" but awesome if you're looking to chat it up with a friend. I think it gets busier after 10:30pm but this place would rock for large groups. The seats are super huge and comfy and there are enticing booths scattered around. We were seated at a 2-person table and the tables are ginourmous!!! Perfect for ordering 10 pitchers or pigging out to everything on the menu. Plus there's a pool table and right when we left, it looked like a DJ was setting up. There's ample floor space between tables which I see turning into a dance floor once people have a few $8.25 pitchers flowing through their blood.
Fridays and Saturday are their busiest days. I really liked the unpretentious odor in the air. Even the "bouncer" was sans tight black tee, folded arms, and stinkeye. I thought he was a customer getting some air and wondered why he was standing in front of the entrance but yes, he was mr.bouncer...kinda looked a little like Spencer from The Hills but less crazy and super nice and friendly. Ya gotta appreciate a friendly bouncer.
The minute we left The Edge, we vowed to come back with more people. Yeah, VOWED. That's how much this place wowed me. Didn't try the food but they have a vegan part which might I exclaim, AWESOME! -

after deciding not to wait additional hours in line at other spots on St.Patricks Day, we ended up here..
Being new to town, I walked down Hastings not know that was a place to avoid enroute to "On the Edge" - maybe it means, "on the edge" of almost getting mugged...not cool. Of course, I was oblivious and thought it was all very festive on the streets for the st.pats day celebration.
So - got into the spot and it was super classy - had very roomy booths, we had a group of 6 and fit very comfortably. It has a long bar and a decent size stage...
We ordered some food - chicken fingers, fish and chips, nachos...all presented very well (not very bar-like)...but appropriately priced.
Service was quick and friendly....
The bar gets extra special mention for the band they had that night - a two person crew which made quick work of the piano, mandolin, guitar, and harmonica...they played covers from elton john to the beatles..not very irish, but still fantastic...just fantastic.
Go here, you won't be disappointed. -

I'm surprised this place calls itself a gastropub when chicken strips and fish and chips are on the menu. That usually means it's just a regular pub. Drinks selections were decent and they have pretty cheap specials like $10 pitchers on Tuesdays, $2.50 pints on Fridays. Tuesday nights they have live music... but the feedback on the speakers can get annoying. The ambience of the place is pretty swanky, but it's definitely located in a sketchy area. There was a woman on the corner of the restaurant as I walked in mixing something up to smoke.. or inject. And this is the first time I really felt creeped out walking from my car to the pub. I've never felt this way about Irish Heather and it's just down the road! Go with friends.

OMG I cant believe how tragic the food is here!!! So so bad that the mgr on duty allowed us to order pizza from around the corner. We heard the cook was new but no excuse, did anyone tell them that the Olympics are here. My burger came with 1/2 of the meat missing, the fries are days old, the fish & chips are $15 and you get the day old fries and a fish piece about 1in x 2in.. The room is nicely decorated but doesn't make up for the kitchen disaster... They did manage to have 2 very nice staff and 3 staff where mia for their shift (hmm)

Well, first off, I really wanted to give this place a good review. My husband and I live locally, and we were jazzed to go for beers somewhere in the hood that wasn't 8 bucks a pint (when we weren't at those 8 dollar pint places] So, the other night. And, initially, this place was great. The food was reasonably priced and hearty, and the pints were amazing.
Things went sideways pretty fast. The food has gone through some major dips-from great, to pretty good, to really bad, to back to mediocre, to better, to really bad again. God only knows how many cooks have been through that kitchen. The last food I had-the burger platter- was one of the worst things i've ever eaten. I actually sent it back; this is the first time in my life I've ever done that. The burger was burnt to a crisp- like, fire marshal bill crispy. And these deep fried onions on it....jesus. No seasoning what so ever. like they were fried in shoelaces.
Sad thing is, this could be an amazing place. But it appears that the owners are kinda running it into the ground with cheap food. some of the wait staff are really nice though, and the beers are good. But the food is pretty bad. I'll still drink the beers though. -

Haven't tried the food here but as a pub it's pretty awesome. It's definitely in a sketchy neighbourhood but it's so quaint and actually quite funny inside. I've been here 3 times - First time it was packed as it was the afterparty for a woman's rollerderby game. Second time it was so dead - we had to pay cover as they were doing a benefit for some sort of charity, the dj group was actually pretty fun and they were trying so hard to get people in to the groove. The most recent time was a thursday, open mike night. It was pretty painful to listen to and there was only 10 people there max. The bartenders are usually pretty slow but they'll also bring your drink to your table for you. The place is really spacious, clean and nice interior - it's basically a dive bar without any of the seediness. The drinks are also SUPER cheap. Quickly becoming one of my favourite chill bars in the city
