Review from Bronwyn G.

I've been really impressed by the kitchen staff's commitment to safety every time I've eaten here. When I say, I have a serious allergy to all nut products, their policy is to send over a cook to clarify what I ordered and what I can't eat. It's a bit embarrassing if you're trying to have a low-key supper, but at the same time its really comforting.
If you're reserving (I do recommend it), ask for one of the cozy tables by the window. They have these little couch benches on either side of their door that can be pretty relaxing/romantic.
Alternately, ask for a table with a good view of the open kitchen. If watching the cooks in action is your thing, then it's great to see.
I like their $13 crab cakes. It's two crab cakes with a pea shoot salad. It's a small but filling portion if you're trying to cut back.
The fries and the charcuterie are really good sharing plates. -
Review from Peter S.
The good:
Some cool Belgian beers by the bottle
A deck
Friendly cooks that were happy to chat with me in the open kitchen
The needs improvement:
More variety of taps
The Meh:
East facing deck in the freezing shade
The $10 300ml beer that was poorly poured overflowing on the table
The fact that we had to ask for another beer (you poured out $2 on the table)
Overall:
2.8 stars rounded up
Friendly staff, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again.Listed in: North Vancouver adventures

If I could give 3.5 stars, I would. Everything here is just above A-OK: nice decor and ambiance, decent service, tasty fare and an ample beer selection, all at fairly reasonable prices. The combination of goodness makes this place border on great... they're not far off.
I had the charcuterie/cheese/condiment plate for $16. This is the exact same setup as Salt (Blood Alley in Gastown): choose a total of three meats and/or cheeses and three condiments. I had beef bresaola, venison & duck chorizo, and some soft brie-like cheese; for the condiments I let the kitchen choose for me... honey, grainy mustard, and cipollini onions. All was good, but not great. For this type of plate, Salt and Au Petit Chavignol have set the bar really high, so District will have to step it up a notch.
Still hungry after the charcuterie, I went for the poutine. Though it's a Quebecois dish, I've noticed Belgian places do a really good job at poutine (think Chambar), and District is no exception. Crispy fries, rich gravy, and delish melty cheese, just right :)
Though I'm not around there very often, next time I'm across the bridge in North Van, I'll definitely consider trying District again. It's kind of a like a little taste of the city in the suburbs... -

I come here often because of the convenience. The place itself is ok, nothing special. Staff is sometimes awesomly friendly and nice, but sometimes it's the worst service ever! It is really a win or miss, depends who works the day you go!
Food is really good. I like their bennys and my boyfriend adores their burger with blue cheese. They have decent waffles as well. It is a good brunch spot, and if you go for dinner, try some meat and cheese plates. Their Thomas Haas desert is absolutely delicious. But then again, everything Thomas Haas is delicious!
If you are in the neighbourhood stop by:) -

really, meh describes it well. I think this was my third time. No reservation on a Saturday night but I guess we were lucky to get a seat at all. Still, I think I may have preferred waiting for a seat to sitting at the secondary "bar" in the second room at the very back by the bathroom with a 20 inch tv 15 inches from my face and a roaring fire scorching my back. The food was fine, nothing to complain about but it didn't blow me away either. The waiter forgot to bring my husband's second drink and we were going to order dessert but after being neglected for too long, we decided to hit the road. Glad I had a discount coupon as I would have been more disappointed without the savings.

In need of some refreshment, my friends and I stopped in at The District Social House for a drink. The place was empty and we took up residence at the large table in their Communal room. The drink menu is extensive and pretty interesting and their Belgian beer list looks great. At $10 a beer, it seems a bit pricey though. My Pink Panther cocktail was delicious, but didn't have the kick I would expect from a 2 oz martini style drink. Only one friend ordered a quick bite. The generous serving of Frites for only $5 was a nice snack. Plenty to share and they were cooked perfectly and nicely seasoned.
The service was good, but one would expect no less being the only table in the place. The atmosphere was nice, but nothing that stands out in my mind. The washrooms were especially beautiful, so that was a nice touch. All in all, I probably wouldn't make a special trip to this rather run of the mill lounge, but I wouldn't mind going back if I'm in the area. -

I love the district social! They are a Neuffie pub with an excellent selection of Belgian ales and divine food. I had the Kilted chicken, it was an orgie of flavors and textures. I was dazzled by the fresh leaks cleverly woven through the garlic mash; they were ingenuous.
The District Social makes me want to run away to Canada. -

We were there with a large group on a Saturday night.. the food was great, drinks were great (although some beers seemed a bit on the expensive side) - the service was decent, but a bit spotty at times.
Nice atmosphere and good music, played at a level you could still talk with - THANKS! -

Got great service, the food was nice and the deck on a summer night is really nice. It is a good change from the old chain type cookie cutter restaurants.
Different menu not the standard boring choices. Would definately go again! -

I have frequented the District Social in Lonsdale several times and always had a great experience.
The decor is warm, rustic and tasteful. The service is friendly, attentive, and knowledgable. The food is so delicious and plated beautifully.
Some of my favourites there are the roasted beet salad (that comes with a super tasty ball of deep fried goat cheese!) and of course the mussels...and of course if you go to a Belgium Brassery if you get mussels you must get fries...and seriously the best fries ever!!
I love trying out new beers and the servers and bartenders there are always helpful in givng good suggestions when experimenting...which is fun!
And I really love that this place is in North Vancouver...it's so refreshing and so nice that there is an option besides crossing the bridge and heading to Gastown where you can find a "a nice middle ground between casual and fine dining"...not expensive...casual atmosphere...but with options like a charcuterie plate...a good selection of wines...and food that is presented nicely.
I have not tried the brunch but I will definitely be in soon to try it. I am sure, like everything else, it will be amazing! -

I was so disgusted and annoyed by the service. I made a reservation for 5pm with my work group. We get there at 10 minutes to 5pm and when I went in to let them know about our reservation, the bartender said that they don't open until 5pm. I was so flabbergasted I was speechless! Took me 5 secs to realize what she was saying and she suggest that we come back at 5pm. Are you serious??!
A better way to deal with this would be to invite the customer into the restaurant and tell them they don't open until 5pm but if they would like, they can have a seat at the table. geesh...
If the owner and managment read this, please let your staff know that they can give out a better customer service to their customers. This gives the impression to me that the staff does not want to work until the very last minute. I took my business and went down the street and spend 180 bucks at Anatoli. Anatoli not only gave great service but they were so warm welcoming. I would never go to the district again. -

Review from kath r.
Enroute to see RENT @ Presentation House we decided to swing by The District for a cold bevy and a bite to eat. Unfortunately, the keg was kicked for the beers we wanted, and they were out of some of the menu items (of course the ones we had already decided upon) as they were changing their menu over. What they did have on offer was a little more than we were looking to spend and not inspiring enough to keep us there without our desired beers. Onwards and upwards, maybe better luck next time.

I really like this place. A bit noisy but the food is great. The owners are really nice. Pretty small so not great for a large group, definitely better as a place for 2-4 people. Though they have recently enlarged and taken over the space next door.
