British style "Diner" with appropriate decor. I'm a fan of their breakies, however I think their hashbrowns are pretty weak. I don't know if that's how they do it in the UK, but I prefer my hbs crispy, theirs aren't. Service is decent. The owner is awesome, cheerful English lady.

I can't rave about this place because it is still just a diner, but this is the only place I know where you get fried toast for breakfast!
The unfortunate part of my experience was that I was hoping to get a traditional English fry-up breakfast with proper ingredients, black pudding, bangers, gammon bacon. I didn't get it, but got the North American variety of sausage n bacon, no black pudding....and the beans...they weren't beans from the UK :(
Haven't tried the other stuff yet.
Lots of memorabilia from the Monarchy tho!!! -

* Eclectic *
I have no way to describe this little hole in the wall other than eclectic.
The decorations remind me of a British inspired version of a place like Chotchkie's. (Bonus points if you understand the reference) Photo from another reviewer: http://www.yelp.ca/biz...
There are all sorts of random British influences down to the London tube map on every table.
The food is a combination of classic diner and British pub, complete with the sarcastic (yet amusing) British lady that seemed to know her regulars quite well.
They serve everything from a Full English to fish&chips.
I tried out the hot roast beef sandwich (classic comfort diner food for me). The roast beef was tender and well seasoned, sandwiched between classic supermarket whitebread and covered in a brown gravy. It was served with steak fries (which were nice and crispy on the outside and softer on the inside). While not fancy food by any means, I enjoyed it for what it was. It was comforting. My only "beef" with the eclectic nature of the place is that when I grabbed both sides of my chair to move it closer to the table my fingers went right into some VERY sharp screws that were sticking out right where you would normally grab the seat. Boo for that, but yea for it not breaking skin and me needing a tetanus shot!Listed in: Which wich is which?, Vancouver European Food

I really wanted to like this place. I took a British friend here to have a "full English" and we did. Unfortunately, the potatoes were glue, the eggs were undercooked, the fried bread was, inedible. The beans were great. My friend told me they were tinned British Heinz beans. The room was very dirty too and when I used the bathroom back by the kitchen it and the kitchen were the same. Stella was our server and she was fun and added a glimmer of happiness to an otherwise dismal experience. I'm very sorry to say it was one of the worst breakfasts I've ever had.

On a blustery day after a long wet bike ride through Pacific Spirit park this was the perfect apres ride resto. We curled up in a booth and had pots of tea brought to us by the hospitable hostess. It's worth going here alone to meet this lovely lady. We had several laughs and chats about The Diner, that's been around for over 25 years.
Its decor is something to behold as well, every bit of British regalia you could imagine, and cool archival prints, adorn the walls and a wooden replica of the Tower Bridge in London sits in the window. We told her how much we loved it and she lit it up for us. Fish n chips hit the spot and we were sent home with some yorkshire pudding to go. (:Listed in: More Bang for Your BC Buck

What a hidden gem! The British lady that owns the diner keeps the witty quips coming in some exceptional service. She even gave us a lollipop and ring sucker at the end... score! I got a full breakfast and it was top notch. The pancakes were massive and delicious, the sausage was clearly homemade and divine, and the eggs were cooked to perfection. Thumbs up all around!

I can't believe this place hasn't been reviewed. Maybe there's another record somewhere else.
This place has a lot going for it. First and foremost the classic British lady who runs the joint, complete with what I think is a cockney accent. Second, the traditional British breakfast with eggs, sausage, ham, baked beans, fried tomatoes, hashbrowns, toast, AND deep fried toast. Thats right, AND deep fried toast. I f^ckin dare you to eat that deep fried toast. Who knows how many fish and chips have been fried in that oil. I've done it, and I survived, but I was a different person afterward.
Ancillary benefits include, but are certainly not limited to, a poster size photo of young prince Charles in full military regalia, tube maps as place mats, walls crammed full of British memorabilia (street signs, scenic photos, etc), and decor straight outta late 1960's early 1970's Britain. If your a broke-ass UBC student you can walk there. Otherwise parking here is easy. This isn't some touchy-feely Sophie's, Seb's, whatever overpriced Vancouver breakfast. This is the real-deal for people with gumption. -

- Small place to have a quit meal at
- There were a lot of old souvenirs to look at while you wait
- Maybe it had to do with the day I came as there was a potent body order in the air
- The waiter was nice
- Had the Fish n Chips. The fish was crispy and so were the fries.
- The batter on the fish had little taste. I liked it someone else might not
- The portions where right on, not to big nor to small -

I love to find hidden gem eateries that don't look like much but when the food comes out you're glad you pulled up a chair! That is exactly what The Diner is!
When my boyfriend and I went to visit UBC our GPS listed this place as one of the closest restaurants so we decided to stop by for a late breakfast. My cell phone is equipped with Yelp so I did a lil' search and read R.D.'s review (oh and by the way R.D. I so tried the fried toast!) and thought "it's gotta be good to get 5 stars." And it is...really good!
The gentleman who took our order was wonderful, super nice and very gracious. The cook even stepped outta the kitchen to see how we liked our food and chatted for a little bit. The food was yummy! I ordered the corned beef hash (epic) and my boyfriend ordered the traditional British breakfast (delish) which comes with bacon, sausage, ham, fried tomatoes, eggs, baked beans, toast, fried toast, and hash browns (all of which is traditional except the hash browns, according to our British waiter).
Needless to say our portions were huge and we were definitely full of home-cooked goodness when we left! A little disclaimer...this is a simple diner with "grandma cooking" so don't expect fancy food or decor, just great food and even better service! -

Well look at this place.
This place is very pleasant. It's as if this restaurant is actually a home; it's filled with souvenirs, photographs and mementos from the owner's past life in London probably. This place will surely bring reminiscent for those who have lived in London before.
Ok anyway, when I came in a senior lady served me. I believe she's the owner, and the chef is her husband. Interesting! The lady was really friendly and nice, she have a slight British accent and she asked me "Would you like a cup of tea or coffee?" as soon as I sat down, ahahha.
I ordered the beef roast with gravy. The food tastes alright I guess, it wasn't as expected. It was nothing special. The roast came with salad, but the salad is just... plain veggies + Kraft dressings so it wasn't anything special.
The price is alright, the roast beef cost $10.65. Service was pretty quick and very friendly.
I will probably come back for more since this place is really close to UBC!
