I LOVE this hotel!  It is such a beautiful place to stay when you are in Spokane. The lobby is so gorgeous, and the staff is fantastic. They have valet parking, a Starbucks on site, a cafe, and lounge.

The rooms are very clean.  The beds are soft and comfy. The bathrooms are beautiful.

The only negative thing is that it is right downtown, and we stayed during a busy weekend.  We had a hard time sleeping with the noises on the streets. Granted it was cinco de mayo.

I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

I don't think it's a secret that Spokane is not exactly a destination, but my stay at the Davenport hotel made it feel that way. I was here on a short 2 day business trip, and if I am ever in Spokane again, I would not stay anywhere else.

THE HOTEL: This establishment is nearly 100 years old and has historical, unique, 19th century England feel to it. Main floor lobby area is grand looking with gorgeous vaulted ceilings and gilded chandeliers. Davenport Tower has a more modern feel with lots of marble & slate everywhere. Lobby area and rooms at the tower are Safari themed with beautiful animal murals downstairs. Main property offers a wide variety of meeting rooms and banquette space for groups of various sizes.

THE ROOM: I had a deluxe king room at the tower. The bed was very comfortable, not as awesome as the heavenly bed at the Westin but still very plush. Super cute leopard print chase lounge was a nice touch. Large closet, big vanity area and a roomy stand-up shower. Davenport provides Lady Primrose bath products in a dispenser, not little packages, which I found very convenient since you didn't have to worry about fussing with tiny bottles while taking a shower. Apparently you can also bring your pooch...my room had a little doggies dish and treats, a miscommunication at the front desk, but if i had a dog this would have been a very welcome detail :-)

There is an indoor pool and SPA facilities which I did not get to enjoy. Also a number of dining, coffee and bar options. Large parking garage right across the street is also very convenient.

Since Spokane has little to offer in terms of city entertainment, I was very glad we stayed at the Davenport.

This is without a doubt the best hotel in Spokane.

There are two locations for the Davenport, the original hotel and the new Davenport Tower across the street.  I recommend staying at the original hotel and eating at the tower.

The original hotel closed for several years.  The current owners updated the rooms yet still kept the classic feel.  It is classic luxury that highly recommend to anyone traveling through Spokane.

A classic ornate surprise . Great  downtown location, friendly staff and every amenity you could ask for. Best luxury value for money this frequent traveler has had in years.

I would not only recommend and stay there again, but am actively planing a semi- unnecessary meeting to ensure it happens, just for the enjoyment of the fabulous river walks from the hotel and to further experience the ambience.

They are pet friendly with reasonable rates, that figured in our selection decision. You can walk to a surprising number of live theaters within 3 minutes( Spokane, who knew?)

Ask for the old hotel, not the tower which is diagonally opposite across the corner.

Quibbles; ( very minor)There are various dining areas that appear to represent bar, silver service and booth type restaurants. They all share the same menus which are equally cautious and unassuming.

The self park garage is across the street, make sure you unload luggage first as in winter it could be a chore.

This  place may be great when it's not full, but I was in the Tower recently during a sold-out weekend due to two big events at the convention center -- a Mary Kay convention and a girl's volleyball tournament -- and I can say that it does not function well when it's loaded.  Examples:

    1.  In 3-days I never managed to get a drink at the bar because it was always jammed,

    2.  The closest I came was the day I arrived, after a hideous journey, arrived at the bar at 12:01 AM and was semi-politely told they'd already done last call and was refused service.

    3.  I never managed to get a Starbucks in the lobby due to immense lines and a rather slow-executing team behind the counter.  I waited ten minutes and gave up.

    4.  While strictly not crowd-related, I had a room service bagel with lox and cream cheese and the lox was smelly and had a lot of brown stuff on the bottom.  Particularly disappointing because the Pacific Northwest is known for its salmon and I was looking forward to it.

    5.  The valet refused to pull my car out of the lot based when I called on day 3, instead requiring my physical presence in the valet area in order to start the process of getting my car.  This is horrific on three levels:  they changed expectations mid-stay as a phone call worked on days 1 and 2, requiring one's presence definitionally wastes your time, and the explanation was roughly "it's full down here, no more room for cars" and when I arrived a few minutes later it was nowhere near full.

The staff are nice.  They try hard.  But the hotel seems to be too big for its lobby, its food service, and its staff.

    Was this review …?

Staff is bureaucratic and entitled. Hotel feels like a tourist trap. Could not complete check in due to inability to meet expectations.

On way back from Montana going to Seattle called ahead and got a reservation for a Tower Deluxe King at the Tower Davenport. Arrived at hotel, parked in valet area and went to check in while leaving girlfriend with the car.

This was 10 pm on 5 May in downtown Spokane so the area was very busy.

At the counter the agent informed me the deluxe king was gone but there was a Queen Queen here at the Tower or a King across the street. I chose the King across the street. 5 minutes passed and the agent informed me that the King across the street wasn't "made up" so it would have to be the Queen Queen in the Tower. I told him that was okay.

The Davenport utilizes a variable pricing scheme based on the day of the week and choices available so this was all happening at around $200 a night.

Checked in to the room and went back to the car. The girlfriend had unloaded the luggage and the valet had taken the car to park. The luggage was on a cart and the person behind a podium informed us our luggage would be delivered to the room in 15-20 minutes. Not wanting to wait in our room 15-20 minutes (or more) for luggage to show up I started to roll the cart towards the elevator.

The person at the podium said I couldn't take the cart.

I said it was okay, I would bring it back.

Again I was refused use of the cart.

We then picked up our luggage and carried it to the room. Once in the room I called down to the desk to get a cart clarification and was informed that the Davenport provided 5 star service and 5 star service meant that I would have to wait for the luggage to be delivered to my room.

I don't believe 5 star service means what they think it does.

During this call the person on the phoned informed me that our driver's side door would not lock and they couldn't park our car. I asked if we could sign a waiver or something else could be worked out and was informed that it couldn't. I have been fortunate enough to stay at hotels with good service in the past and when something unfortunate happens the hotel would make it better not worse.

The Davenport staff is not there to help you - just take your money.

I was told to come get the car and park it across the street at the Davenport self parking garage. After driving in circles the 12 or so floors to the top of the garage and 12 or so back down I verified what I suspect the valet staff knew all along - there were no open parking spaces.

I then went back to the valet parking area and asked the staff for options. They said I should find a spot somewhere on the street. It was at this point I gave up and had the staff check us out of the room (no, I didn't get to use a cart this time either). The rooms were very nice and had a very roomy shower. The $2 davenport brand bottles of water for sale were tacky and revealed the venal focus of the staff.

After driving 6 hours from Bozeman, Mt, Seattle was only another 6 hours away and we got home to a real 5 star place at 4:30 am rather than pay a dime to the Davenport Hotel.

The Davenport Hotel gets 5 STARS!  If you're travelling to Spokane, WA and want a place to stay READ THIS REVIEW... you won't be disappointed!! :)

Ironically I was travelling on business and our client asked us to stay at the same hotel they were staying at........... so we ended up at The Davenport Hotel in Spokane, WA.  Typically for business I would have ended up at the Sheraton, W, Hilton etc.... but this hotel was absolutely stunning, charming and close to perfection!

I travel alot (personal and business) and I have to say that this hotel has to be one of my best top 10 experiences of all hotels domestic and internationally EVER... I'm serious!  There were 2 towers adjacent to each other which had different vibes- one side was more historic and the other side which I stayed in had a "safari" chic style- very upbeat and definitely FUN!  The people there were very professional, helpful and completely went out of their way to ensure THE BEST experience whether you were staying there one night or a week.  That night we asked for recommendations for a closeby dinner place and the valet guy made the reservations for us, requested a perfect table for us and then arranged for their limo shuttle service man'd by Frank to pick us up.... are you serious?  (btw, the shuttle service was free- what a perk!).

Some of my co workers managed to check in earlier that day and were able to take advantage of the onsite spa.  Their feedback was amazing- 90 minutes of full massage, body wraps, scrubs and then availability afterwards to sit in the hot sauna into complete relaxation!  Sounds HEAVENLY right?  Not bad with the price- $160 for the above.

The side of the hotel that I stayed in- Safari side..... had a great "happening" bar scene with friendly bartenders who made fabulous drinks!  On your way to the elevator you'll pass a Starbucks so no walking anywhere in the morning for your morning brew... I LOVE that!

Each floor was absolutely spotless......  The room itself was perfect!  ALL the bests for an overnight hotel stay: comfy bed, great flatscreen tv with all the channels, FREE WIFI access in your room.. the bathroom had ALL of the amenities: shampoo, conditioner, lotion, soaps........ did I mention how COOL the walk in shower was!!!!

One of the things that I look for in a hotel especially when it comes to business travel is how sound proof the rooms are to ensure a light sleeper like me gets SOLID sleep.... put it this way... I slept like a baby!

What I loved about this hotel was that is was a perfect mix for either personal and business travellers.  Typically the hotels that I stay at for business wouldn't necessarily be ones that I would come back to for a personal vacation stay... BUT, The Davenport Hotel is definitely one of those hotels that caters to both.... and does it perfectly!!!

I definitely will be back!..... next time for fun!

Staying in the Tower this week.  If you are going to be a hotel with a theme, you gotta own it and the Davenport owns the safari theme.  From the Safari lounge bar in the lobby complete with stuffed leopard above the bar, the the leopard print chaise lounge in the room to the rhino/zebra prints in the room.  They do safari well.  Hopefully the gift shop has a trinket or two for sale :).

Modern showers(who the hell uses a bathtub anymore?), clean , neat rooms are a plus  Good food, Starbucks in the lobby, great vibe in the bar.  I hear there is a fitness center and a pool.  I'll take their word for it.  Dig it

Originally reserved a room in the Tower because of some of the reviews I read here. The Tower was not to our liking. At all. The rooms are cheesy and have none of the charm that the historic hotel has. They're like an Embassy Suites or Holiday Inn business hotel. The walk in showers are nothing like the walk-in showers in the main hotel either! They have no bathtub/walk-in shower combo in the Tower only in the honeymoon type suites. All the amenities are in the main hotel as well.

In summery, there is nothing charming about the Tower.

Location to downtown is nice. Only a six block walk to the INB Performance Center.

The service here is world class. From the valet to the front desk.

The bed (Davenport Deluxe King room) in the historic hotel was soft and comfy. I like them a little firmer but these where very nice and easy on the knees and hips. I was disappointed that they didn't have guest slippers to go along with the robes.

Drinks served until midnight to the room...

This place is awesome, and is THE spot to stay if you're in Spokane.  Rooms are lovely, the bathrooms are magnificent, and the staff is top notch.  Avoid the Tower for an authentic Davenport experience.  Be sure to check online as you can find some really good deals on the weekends, and some flat out steals if you're staying during the week.

Beautiful hotel. People are very nice here. The food is very good, too. The bathrooms are unique and sexy. The bed is very comfy, but not fluffy. Free wifi in the room. Their workout room is nicer than most that I've used. There is also a spa (Spa Paradiso) in the building. Kinda expensive, but its convenient.

As far as the Suite we had and the service, this place is amongst the best I have stayed at.  The room service breakfast and desserts were really great! The apple crumb and cheesecake desserts were so delicious.  The milkshake we had was great, but disappointed they didn't have a strawberry flavored one.  The breakfast food was typical fare but very good.  The bad thing about the stay was the drunks in the room next to us and the old windows on the building.  We stayed on the 10th floor and the street noise was still crazy loud.  That was on a Friday night, the Saturday night stay was nice and quiet though.  The location downtown is great for walking and exploring the area.  The prices are a little high, but worth it for those special occasions.  People in the hotel are kind of stuck on themselves though.  They will get over themselves in time and they realize, not everyone wears a suit and tie.

What a fun hotel! I stayed in the Davenport Tower for two nights while attending a wedding and had an absolute blast.  We were on the 19th floor with a fantastic view of the city, comfy beds, spotless bathroom with walk-in tile shower and lots and lots of animal print.  We got a kick out of all the gaudy safari-themed hotel art and the marble and gold lobby area.

The pool area is pretty small and surprisingly unadorned, and the drinks at the hotel bar were waaay overpriced (but, typical for hotel bars), but other than that, it was a great place to stay.  Very centrally located as well.

Walking into the Davenport will take your breath away.
I was lucky enough to stay here with some family before seeing Phantom of the Opera.
We stayed in the towers which has a little more trendy atmosphere. A upscale/jungle theme in the lobby.
At an amazing dinner in the restaurant. a three course meal for 15$, and it was amazing. Great waitress and good drinks!
The rooms are fabulous. A HUGE walk in tiled showered nice sink/mirror area outside the shower (which I always like). Big big windows and ample space with the beds.

I absolutely loved my stay here and would recommend it to anyone looking to stay in the Spokane area.

As I went to post this I almost forgot my favorite part: amazingly soft robes ready for you when you get out of the shower....  ahhhhh.....

The historic Davenport Hotel is absolutely beautiful!

The rooms are large and have all the amenities you will need. The hotel has a couple different restaurants/bars attached to it and each has a different menu. If you want to roam, the hotel is centrally located and close to other restaurants and bars.

Don't forget to eat the peanut brittle. The soft peanut brittle (a gift on your pillow) is sold in the gift shop and is amazing.

I really can't imagine staying anywhere other than the Davenport. It is a great experience.

Have never stayed elsewhere in Spokane, and can definitely say that would not change if I were to return. My mom and I stayed in the Davenport Tower and cannot say enough good things about the quality of the room and the customer service here - it's absolutely top notch. Kitty-corner to the Tower is the historic Davenport, which has a gorgeous lobby and fantastic bar (the Peacock room), and I don't doubt that a stay here is just as lovely, if not moreso, as what you'd find at the Tower.

Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou Davenport! I don't think you've seen the last of me!

    Love this hotel.

Close to everything downtown..and just a few blocks away from the Expo 74 site for those of you who are World's Fair dorks.

This is quite possibly the best remodel of an older hotel ever. Many historic hotels which have been restored spend 90% of their budget on the lobby and public areas, and 10% on the guest rooms. This hotel seems to be a complete rebuild, combining the best of both elements: classic beauty of the past synthesized with modern luxuries.

Take the self-guided walking tour and don't miss checking out the stunning ballrooms.

Weirdnesses: No coffee makers in the rooms. I guess it helps to drive sales at the mini-starbucks in the lobby.

The beds are also quite comfortable, and of course the decor is fabulous in the lobby. My only issue with this hotel is that there are no coffee makers in the rooms, but there's a Starbucks in the lobby. And seriously I would probably even rent this room without a bed just for the shower.

I haven't written this until now, because I just couldn't believe it was the service at the Davenport that was so bad. I was not having a good New Years Eve night to begin with, but the one place I wanted to be at midnight was The Davenport, so I went down there, with three of my Saudi students that are all of age. We sat at the new bar just built in the restaurant, just a small quaint little spot. I was in front of the female bartender for 15 min. before I got acknowledged, she said are THEY of age, and I said Ask them, they speak ENGLISH. She was rude, NOT festive, and NOT happy. I finally got a gin and soda, but the waitress got it for me, she shouldn't have worked New Years if she wasn't going to smile, they weren't even that busy, and hey its CUSTOMER SERVICE that you applied for when you took the job. SO why are you in the job. ??? Anyway, I can't believe she was so blah. But when it became midnight everyone was having a great time, and I just want to forget that bartenders service.

The Davenport hotel is a beautiful building with a really fantastic history including it's revitalization, and I do not doubt that it is the "nicest" in the region. But really? Have some of you people NOT actually stayed in a 5 star, or a 4 star for that matter, hotel before?

I arrived late, picked up at the airport by the hotel valet along with another woman on my flight who was staying there. He was extremely courteous. Actually, the entire staff was exceptionally nice to me my entire stay. One of my favorite parts of the trip was listening to the towncar driver's history of Spokane as he drove me to my meeting destination the next day.

Maybe it's that I was visiting on a work trip and had the corporate rate room. No bathtub, no coffee maker, soap pumps, and robes with tears in them. Maybe I would have felt more comfortable in the Tower, sounds hipper at least. As it was I felt like the youngest person (besides some kids with their grandparents) in house. Maybe I'm a snobby princess? Whatever the case, I just was not impressed.

I got lucky with the weather and was able to walk about and explore Spokane with a friend after the work part of my trip was done. We had planned to stay at the Davenport an extra night, but decided that the lack of amenities, and the too-soft bed just wasn't worth it.

A coworker visited and stayed the following week after me (got back yesterday), and was even less impressed. They refused to provide transportation for her beyond the "2 mile" courtesy limit where they had for me - at a fee charged to my room of course, thought it was less than her cab fare. Discrimination? Plus, she had not so great weather and was inclined to eat in the overpriced dining at the hotel.

I will not be staying here again if I am up in Spokane, and have already scoped out places more to my taste should I need to visit for work again.

There's only one hotel in Spokane that's a must-stay - the Davenport. There's the old and the new right across from each other. The older side is a look at the past - historical and elegant while the newer side is what it is - contemporary.  Either way, the rooms are very comfortable as are the beds. The bathrooms are sparkling clean. The staff is completely attentive.

The Sunday buffet was decent for Spokane if you don't compare it to places like the Bay Area. The restaurant also was good and the signature peanut brittle and hotel cookies are excellent.

I would go back just to stay in the hotel...

The hotel came highly recommended by a business traveler friend from Los Angeles.  It lived up to his reviews to us.  The front desk was trained well and not pretentious as you can experience at times.  The bell staff was great.  The rooms have been critiqued and as they are more European/international we Americans might not appreciate their size as much as a Marriott suit. I did enjoy the forward thinking of the rooms and design, and the beds are just great.  Do use the pool, spa, and exercise room.
The restaurant was very nice the food was done well.  There was a slip up in the timing of the salads and food being served, salads late food early.  This was a bit tough due to the salmon, so they kept the beef resting warmly for 5 minutes and cooked up two new salmon dishes.  Most places would put these under lights and you'd pay later for this lack of attention to service.

The Safari bar, and staff are top grade. Every night the local business employment (financial primarily) enjoy drinks and unwind.      We felt very warm and welcome by all, and would stay here again.

One note, they are automating the self parking garage, this is putting an older gentleman out of work. I would encourage the ownership to reconsider this as personal service is what brings people back.
He is just the nicest fellow, we'd hate to see him go.

From the lady in the candy store to the polite valet to the hostesses who remembered our daughter was taking her SAT's and wished her luck the following morning (early) at breakfast. We happened to arrive very understated without fazing anyone; we were still treated with the respect and dignity every guest longs for. The only downside was we didn't have longer to stay. A special recommendation goes out to the corned beef and hash for breakfast at the Palm court. Just Do It! You're worth it.

Loved this place and would absolutely stay again.  First of all, I enjoyed the decor -- wild animals meets Old West, but somehow in a classy way.  The large central lobby of the original hotel is beautiful -- comfy seating areas, a large fireplace.  The sort of place you can plop down and have someone bring you a drink AND a fattening chocolate dessert.

The hotel respects its heritage without being stuffy.  There's an interesting display of vintage photos and memorabilia on the mezzanine.  Our room in the Tower was wonderful.  Great bathroom with modern walk-in shower.  A-plus showerhead.  Really great staff too.

Wait!  I almost forgot the Frette bed linens.  Divine.

If old-school charm and new-school trendy had a child, it would be the Davenport hotel! Remodeled in 2004 - they did a wonderful job!

    - Super comfy bed like you are laying on clouds - check!
    - tasteful and extravagant decor everywhere in the hotel - check!
    - modern equipment and contemporary style - check!
    - awesome fitness room with a wide selection of machines - check!
    - heated pool with jacuzzi - check!
    - room service 24/7 AND the food is great - check!

Valet service is $24/day, rates are generally less than $200, very reasonable!

Opened in September of 1914 and standing proud today, The Davenport Hotel in Spokane, Washington is without a doubt one of the true hotel gems of the west. I mean a walk around the lobby alone is worth a visit to this marvelous property. I was fortunate enough to spend a few days here over the summer and have to admit that I was blown away at the grandeur that this hotel exudes.

I rolled into The Davenport Hotel with my rental car and pulled into their wrap around driveway. The valet service was $24 per night (plus tips to the valets), which I felt was a little high for a hotel in a small town. But no matter what city you visit, when you stay in a 4-star property, expect to pay 4-star prices. In any event, the valets were always super friendly and always quick to retrieve my car.

Upon entering the aforementioned lobby, you instantly get why Conde Nast Traveler named The Davenport Hotel both a "Gold List" property and one of the "Most Excellent Hotels" in 2008. Just a remarkable sight to see upon checking in.

After gawking at all of the marble, comfy couches & chairs, and the collection of art work, it was time to head upstairs and check out my suite. Upon walking into the elevator, I realized that The Davenport Hotel was one of those lodges that required your key card in order for it to work. It will surely keep away those pesky non key card holding people. But seriously it is a nice security feature.

I was placed on the 4th floor and just a short walk from the elevator. One of the best and worst moments any person has when staying at a hotel is that few seconds you have between sliding in your key card and opening that hotel door. What will be on the other side? Will I love it? Will I hate it?

Okay I loved it this time. Wow! Nice size space that was honestly way too much for just yours truly. The living room area provided me with a coffee table, two couches, a comfy chair or two, a flat screen television (unfortunately not an LCD or Plasma), mini-bar, work desk, a few mirrors, and even a sink. That is a lot to take in right away.

As I walked to the left of the living  room area, I wound up in a small walkway with his and her sinks, or in my case mine and mine sinks. Off to the side was a huge closet, with a safe, bath robes, and an iron with an ironing board. I then popped my head into the small yet lovely bathroom, which offered me both a deep tub and a walk-in shower.

I will be the first to admit that I am a bit of a hotel nerd. I love staying at them and get equally thrilled upon finding a unique or quirky feature at each one. The Davenport Hotel provided me with an "OMG, that is pretty cool" moment that only a serious travel geek would enjoy.

Instead of using "Do Not Disturb" and "Clean Room" signs on their doorknobs, The Davenport Hotel instead has installed a light switch looking object next to the door that indicates whether you need a room cleaning or want to be left alone.

Simply tap on it and it will light up both inside where you are tinkering with it and outside of your door. Yes it is not flying to the moon or solving world hunger, but I snapped a picture of it and thought it was pretty neat.

I decided that before I get all squeaky clean, it would be wise if I checked out where I would be sleeping tonight. So I walked back into the living room and then off to the right to check out the my bedroom. It was a nice size room that was mostly taken over by this enormous king size bed. I mean this truly was a massive piece of furniture.

The headboard was made up of quality hand carved mahogany and the mattress was covered by a healthy amount of pillows and an truly inviting comforter. Above the bed were two recessed lights that I assume were placed there in the event one of the two people wanted to read while the other slept.

In addition to the "Davenport Bed" and large marble walk-in shower, here are some of the amenities included during your stay at The Davenport Hotel:

       * Smell good with Lady Primrose bath products.

       * High-speed wired and wireless internet (Every hotel should have   free internet!).

       * Complimentary local phone calls.

       * The hotel offers 27 flat-screen televisions (pictured above), but the tower offers 32 LCD HD televisions.

       * 24-hour business center.

       * Full service concierge.

       * Indoor pool and jacuzzi with complimentary towels.

       * 24-hour fitness center with complimentary towels and fresh fruit.

       * Town car service within 2 miles of the hotel.

       * Historic walking tour available.

       * Pet walking.

       * Plus be sure to stop into the candy shoppe, which is located in the lobby by the entrance, to purchase some Bruttles soft peanut brittle. It is seriously great and very addictive (I had plenty!).

So the next time your plans find you in "The Lilac City," be sure to check out or into easily one of the most popular addresses in town. Yup The Davenport Hotel is truly something special in Spokane.

#1 -  Spokane has a world class, yes I said it!  A world class hotel right here.

Do not pass this one up if you have the chance to enjoy this historic hotel.  I will allow the other yelpers to go into details about the Daveno.

It is #1 in Spokane BY FAR! !

We decided to have dinner in the lobby before going to our room.  It took 55 minutes to get our dinner.....ordered at 7PM, got it at 7:55. We inquired at 7:30 about dinner, and were told the kitchen was very busy. Hmmmm....then get more help, or don t try to serve three different rooms ...lobby, Peacock Room and main restaurant and bar!!! DAH!
When dinner arrived, my partners diner was rom temp, and mine was steaming hot with halibut burned on the bottom...had to cut it with a knife!
Manager was apologetic and took the halibut off the bill, admitting there was a problem in the kitchen. But, frankly, our last few meals there have been mediocre at best. The atmosphere is awesome, but not worth the price of a dinner there.
The room was very nice and what I expected for a historic, restored hotel. I was very disappointed in the fact that we had an upgraded king room and no bathtub. That is what I always look forward to after a long day . The bedding was great, but the pillows were not....wish I had my pillow from home......that, along with road and train noise, made for a  sleepless night. Was wishing I had stayed home, just a mile up the hill. This was part of my Valentine s/Birthday present. Won t be doing that again!!

I've become a jaded enough traveler that now that my expectations have been lowered to the point where I just hope for a clean Econolodge. Or if there are roaches, that they are at least well-behaved.

So imagine my surprise when I pulled into the Davenport on business.

The hotel is split into a main part and the tower. Parking is in the deck next door. I stayed in the Tower which has a wilderness motif. The rooms are generous with a walk-in shower, safe in the room (really, none of my stuff is that expensive), flat-screen TVs and housekeepers that bring you peanut butter brittle with the evening turn-down service.

Small details are well thought-out. There's a fitness room, mostly cardio, with small monitors on all the machines. Headphones are included on the machine with disposable headphone covers adjacent. A small pool is present and, in theory, there is some sort of spa although I never checked it out. The fact that a number of people were walking around in robes would seem to confirm that a spa is present....or that this place is a front for a porno set.

On the ground floor of the tower is a lounge, espresso bar and the main desk. Concierge and servers are all professional and quick. Drinks in the lounge are reasonable with TV screens above the bar. Interestingly enough, all the servers here were abnormally attractive. Enough so, that one evening over drinks I was musing whether they were running some sort of Stepford program in the basement here.
But that's ok, my silence was won over with the peanut butter brittle.

Never thought I'd stay in a 5-star hotel, but then...I found the Davenport.  I could summarize the splendor in two words: Pure Heaven.

I stayed in the main hotel, so this review does not concern the Tower.  The rooms are impressively appointed, yet simple and in good taste.  The linens are plush and soft, with mattresses that conform perfectly.  Amenities include a flat screen TV, a thermostat for temp control, giant closet for all your clothes, ample room to stretch, heavy blinds to black out the sun for sleeping in late, electronic housekeeping signals (SO COOL!), doorbells, and...oh my gawd...the walk-in shower!!  My fantasies have come true!  I was also impressed by the eco-friendly soap, shampoo/conditioner, and lotion dispensers.  True, I can't take those fun, little bottles home with me, but at least no one is throwing them away.

Did I mention the exquisite food?  Savor the Sunday brunch - especially the fondue fountain!  Hang out in the Peacock Lounge for cocktails and be sure to look up when you walk in.  Dine in fancy-shmancy style at the Palm Court.  Hit up the Candy Shoppe for the BEST soft peanut brittle you've ever imagined.

I also highly recommend a tour of the mezzanine, especially the Elizabethan Room.  The photos around the hotel, depicting people and functions from it's early days, are fascinating.  The lobby is also grand and inviting, with plenty of casual, comfy seating, and a Starbucks.  Here, you can also find the Concierge and computers available for guest use.

If I could afford it, I'd friggin' LIVE here.  That said, the prices are steep (most rooms start at $200), but I've heard that specials are available from time to time...especially if you're attending an event hosted by the hotel (such as the reunion I just went to).  In that case, take them up on the discount offered.  Our rooms were sweet - and only $130/night!   I suggest self-parking in the garage across the street, at $17 per day (valet is $24).

Overall, everyone here was super friendly and eager to help make our stay perfect...and it was.  I'll come back any chance I get!

I am not a classy broad (as is evidenced by my former review)

I do, however, require a modicum of class in my out-of-town accommodations.

Things I love about staying at the Davenport Hotel (tower, actually, I have never stayed in the main hotel)

    1: Safari theme:
It's classy-trashy. Animal-print bed linens paired with a GIANT mirror behind the bed. YEAH! AMIRIGHT?!

2: There is a fountain in the lobby

3: There is a tiger in the lobby

    4: THE SHOWER:
    O. M. G. The shower. I want to pack up the contents of my house and move to Spokane just so that I can live in the shower. No... I don't actually want to live in Spokane again (under any circumstances) but this shower is the best i've ever used. It's got more square footage than my entire bathroom at home with a mega-huge shower head.

I almost bought the Davenport exclusive mattress when I returned home from my first stay there. I still think about it. I tell everyone in town to stay there. Because, really, what's the difference between this world-class hotel that has seen the likes of Charles Lindbergh, Amelia Earhart, Mary Pickford, Clark Gable, John Philip Sousa, Lawrence Welk, Marian Anderson, Bob Hope, Bing Crosby and Benny Goodman as guests.

You think Lawrence Welk would stay at the Holiday Inn express by the airport? NO. NO HE WOULD NOT!

    And neither should you.

It's like Vegas in the middle of b-f Washington!  I booked this hotel for a business trip in mid-July not expecting too much for Spokane.  The price was very reasonable and I was more than impressed with my stay.  The hotel itself is divided into two parts, the main hotel, and the newer, posh Tower side.  I didn't stay in the main hotel so I can't say too much about that, but the Tower side was sparkling new when I arrived.

The first thing that may confuse you is the overly designed safari theme that is EVERYWHERE.  From the lobby restaurant's ostrich skinned seats to the leopard print barca lounger in your room, you just can't get away from it.  You are not in South Africa and you are not in Vegas.  You are in the middle of nowhere Spokane (which you will be reminded of as soon as you look out the window).

That said, it was the most comfortable luxurious pseudo-vegas safari hotel I have ever stayed in.  I have dreams about the bed I slept in..  the bedding is outstanding and just hugs you to sleep.  It's just heavenly.  If I had more time I would've dropped some cash on bringing this little bit o heaven home with me.

I wanted to try out the spa the next morning after my business meeting, but could not get myself to get up early and leave my happy spot.  Do yourself a favor and buy the bedding.. you will not find anything other like it (or buy me the bedding because I didn't have time).

Oh yeah one retarded thing, I was having trouble with my wireless so I called the front desk to bring up an ethernet cable.  They require a $5 deposit on the cable (bleh) and when the guy delivered it I didn't bother to look at it and found he brought up a telephone cable.  Fortunately I got my wireless working. :P

I have a lot of yelping to catch up on, so I'm going to Super Man that H** and bullet through these. Don't worry, I'll remain as thorough as usual.

Background: LA girl flies up to Spokane WA to meet the Beau's family. Sleep deprived? Yes. Hungover from the 2 pitchers of beer at Mt. Spokane by herself waiting for the people that actually knew how to ski to come back? Yes.

*Service - Kind and polite although not the brightest server in the server crayon box.

*Food - I got the prawns and scallops, which were very good. I tried some of the duck and it was well cooked and not gamey or fatty at all.

*Ambiance - We sat in the actual dining area but walked through the whole hotel. Very nice and historical.

*Bonus - Random patron falling from having too much to drink. I didn't actually see it, but I heard it - not sure if this is necessarily a good or bad bonus...it was a Wednesday night.

All in all, the food was great and the evening was pleasant. i did not spit on anyone, choke on my wine, spill or sit there smiling with parsley in my teeth the whole. Phew!
