This is one of those case where I always question how to do a  review. We all go in with an idea of what we are looking for and rate accordingly.  I really appreciate the person who can break it all done by dish and service.  We went in here for brunch today with high expectations and although the service met it the food did not.  The eggs Benedict was under cook and the other dish an omelet was over cooked. If  I was to rate the place on the sever and the the service we got they met or exceeded my expectations, however the food fell flat.  The best I can do is say they were ok. Will We be back, I do not think so, at least not for breakfast.

I love love love the atmosphere of the lounge. It's beautiful, laid back and classy and the live jazz on the weekend is just amazing. This is exactly what I'd been hoping to find in Winnipeg.

We came here the other night on impulse and everything about the place just made for a perfect evening. Service was good and the jazz band that was playing was nice and mellow and the volume was (surprisingly) the perfect level to enjoy conversation and the music at the same time. The only complaint I had was that the band was supposed to be playing from 9pm to midnight and was off for about a half hour after we got there - we were starting to wonder if maybe the entertainment was done for the night.

They have a nice wine list and selection of drinks. I haven't tried it yet, but one thing I really like is that they have a flight of wine samplers for a very reasonable price, so if you don't know your wines you can try a few small glasses instead of committing to something you might not like. For $8 you get three 2oz samples of your choice of their house wines. I'll definitely be going with this next time I visit.

I haven't tried any of the food, so I can't comment on that at all, though their lounge menu is moderately priced and pretty reasonable for the type of lounge it is. If you're going for dinner it's going to be spendy, but if you just go for a couple of drinks in the lounge you can visit on a budget.

Also cool - their desserts are prepared in house, which is fairly unusual.

The crowd was mostly middle aged couples and groups with a few young people.

The atmosphere is what makes this place awesome.

Their entertainment schedule & menus are all on the website. Definitely go on a night where they have a band.

shared a dinner at the current and it was quite nice, just a couple gripes

we had dinner in the dining room and not the lounge..  it was a bit quieter save for the idiot party who apparently wasn't aware they were the loudest ones in the entire room..  otherwise, the ambiance was pretty mellow..  the decor wasn't exactly stellar but it wasn't shabby..  the odd flavor of the dining room that stood out is that it just looks like a mildly furnished back room..  it's somewhat bland and gives a sense that it used to be one of those large rooms used hold conferences in the hotel but redone for the sake of the restaurant

    on with the food

we had the wild caught scallops..  they were pretty tender, cooked on the softer side with a very light citrus sauce..  there are only 3, so don't get your hopes up..  is it worth it??  depends how much you like scallops..  if you're not craving scallops as an appetizer, simply don't order it..  they're 13 bucks btw

another appetizer we had was the fois gras poutine..  i like poutine and all, but this one was not my flavor..  if you really want taters, read the description carefully..  the cheese is a bit pungent so i'd keep that in mind before choosing

our entree consisted of the entrecote rib steak cooked medium rare..  this cut of steak and how it was cooked was quite good..  it wasn't "walked by the fire" like how other steaks should be cooked, the steak we had was done just right..  the sides of asparagus and taters were good too, buttered and not overly cooked

lastly, we had the creme brulee..  the custard was sweeter than what i'm used to but not overly done..  there's a certain aftertaste which i can't really pinpoint but it isn't a bad thing at all..  the sugar, on the other hand, is a bit much..  there was way too much sugar and a bit overly burned

overall, the current isn't a bad place to dine..  the staff is cordial and attentive..  last gripe, they don't serve prime rib everyday

Visiting in Winnipeg and I was so happy I found this place for lunch. The cobb salad was one of the best I've had. Just the small details of presentation and top ingredients that made a simple dish like this really amazing. I was only looking for a light lunch, but just about everything on the menu looked good to me.
