We've eaten at the Creperie at least once a year for more than 15 years and we've never once had anything less than professional and couteous service, but that could be because we can count on one hand the number of different waiters who have served us. I think it says something positive about a restaurant when at least one of the waiters was there for more than a decade. So after 15 years of me ordering the exact same entree (Crepe a la Reine), I finally decided to try something else and now I have a new favorite. It's the Chicken Cordon Bleu which sounds fairly boring as choices go, but that caramelized onion and apple cream sauce really made it work. My husband tried the Lamb Shank and it was tender and delicious. Both entrees came with relatively uncreative sides, but they make up for it by perfectly cooking the vegetables. Starters were the French Onion Soup ( a little salty) and the Deep-Fried Cheese Crepes which are my downfall because I inhale them and then I can never get through half of my dinner let alone any dessert. The garlic in the dip appeared to missing that night or too light to be noticed, but I still polished off an unhealthy portion of those deep-fried cheese crepes anyway.
I like the areas that are divided so that you have a good deal of privacy from your neighbor, but the floors are uneven and the legs of my chair got stuck in the grooves and took a monumental effort to place into that one perfect position that I had to stay in once I got there. And we made the mistake of moving the table a little closer to my husband and after that it was off kilter so he kept his foot on it to steady it while we ate. But these are small things to contend with. The atmosphere is cosy and quiet so you can actually have a conversation with your partner. Two apps, two entrees and one glass of wine was a reasonable $73 plus tip.
The menu hasn't changed much in decades so it's not overly creative, but it is consistently tasty and has a comfortable welcoming feel. Yes, there is an occassional panhandler or drunk down at the other end of the block near the hotel, but in all these years, no one has ever bothered us and we usually park right in front of that hotel because there's usually an open spot. -

It was my sweetheart's birthday AND I had an online coupon for The Creperie set to expire. Woohoo! Romantic dinner for a fraction of the cost.
Now, I've been to The Creperie before with a group of girlfriends. It really works for a date better than for a group. At least in my experience.
My first time there, I ordered the 3-course crepe dinner. But when I bought my coupon, I was told I could not apply it to the 3-course dinner. Which is no big deal, I didn't mind ordering from the regular menu. That is, until another couple was seated near us and the waiter allowed them to use their coupon toward the 3-course dinner. Grrrr! Oh well, I determined not to let my frugal tendencies hinder the celebration of my beloved's birthday.
We started with soups (it was very, very cold out, so soup was SO satisfying). My partner went for the baked French onion, which was gorgeous and quite delicious (though I suspect it was made with a beef broth). I had the lobster bisque special. It was quite tasty but quite rich (I swear I could feel the fat coating the roof of my mouth).
For mains, we had the Crepe Asparagus (with brie) and Crepe Fra Diavolla (A spicy shrimp crepe). Both were very nice. They were served with an orzo side, which was a little on the dry side, and a steamed vegetable medley, which was a little on the bland side. I didn't finish either of my sides.
Finally, for dessert, my sweetie had the combo crepes and I had the lemon creme brulle. The creme brulee was outstanding (though it only came with a single strawberry, and a half of one at that, instead of the fresh berrieS listed in the menu). The combination of lemon and cream is divine and so tricky. I love it when it's done well.
Overall, it was a pleasant evening. I did find the chairs quite uncomfortable, even the benches. This pregnant woman was quite sore after two hours in that restaurant.
One thing I hope they'll remedy is their door opening policy. We had an early reservation (5pm) because of a later commitment. We arrived at 2 minutes until 5:00 and found the doors locked. We weren't able to get in until 5 minutes after 5:00. And it was -20 outside. They should at least open the doors and let people wait in the lobby. Just saying. -

So first time in Edmonton I decided to check out the yelp scene around here. I was quite tempted by the sounds of a creperie so I came here.
First of all, I totally get the Disney world pirates of the Caribbean reference Jason L. was talking about. And yes, it kinda does feel like that. It's a bit more cellar feeling than country farmhouse. Add in the soundtrack to fantasia in the background and you have the exact description of the ambience in here.
I got the three course lunch which came with a crepe of choice, a salad/soup and a dessert.
First came some bread which was served with a side of whipped butter with garlic and parsley. I am probably in love with their butter. Noreen more of this frozen block stuff. FYI other restaurants, frozen blocks don't spread nice.
The soup came out and was exactly what a French onion soup is. I'd probably would have liked more cheese (especially all burnt doen the sides) but that's not really an issue. The soup was pretty flavorful but perhaps a little salty for my taste. Still pretty good though.
I had the crepe st jacque (which had scallops and mushrooms in it). It was alright... Wasn't really too amazing. It came in between a medley of vegetables and rice (really farmhouse looking). The crepe itself was really light and a tad crispy on the outside. I didn't mind it, but I've had better.
Lastly came the dessert crepe. Honestly I love dessert crepes. You had a choice whether to have raspberry or chocolate sauces onto of a vanilla ice cream crepe. Of course, I chose both.
When it came out it was a frozen brick. OMG, it was like what would happen if McDonalds served crepes. I just kinda ate it anyways but the parts that kinda de-thawed were just above bad. I bet it was once a really good crepe... That they destroyed by freezing.
Overall I wasn't too happy with my experience, it wasn't anything there that would make me want to come back. Would I bring a date here? Not if I was trying to show her I knew where to get good food. -

Last night I took my great office team for an annual Christmas dinner.there were 12 of us and we look forward to it every year. I was pleased when the restaurant asked if we wanted to customize the seating with names on the menus...cool .Too bad when we arrived the table seating was changed and the names dropped and replaced by a typo in the company name and 1 of the 12 was from some other group there that night. It was a poor start. The appetizers came out in dribs and drabs and we had to ration as we went. I realize Christmas rush is hard on restaurants as its really busy...but after 30+ years in business I expected more from this restaurant. The food rates a 3 star as was good but delivered slowly. Our server was good. Overall though I was dissappointed.

The Creperie was the first romantic place my husband and I went to for celebrating our first anniversary. Since then (2004), we've been back at least 10 times!
It's a cozy and romantic atmosphere with fresh food and great service! It's on the boardwalk downtown next to the Greyhound Bus station (not the nicest area... and once or twice we've been nervous walking by the people panhandling on the street). It's underground (underneath the Old Spaghetti factory) and there isn't an elevator so if you have difficulty with stairs it might not be the place for you.
That aside, my husband and I absolutely adore the Creperie and in fact, the last time we were there... a couple got engaged sitting right next to us!
And if you're not in the mood for crepes... they have delicious french cuisine. I highly recommend the mussels and an ever fabulous array of desserts!
We will definitely be back again and again!Listed in: Romantic Meals...

I brought my girlfriend here to purpose on Christmas eve. When making reservations, I asked for privacy. The Creperie went out of their way to accommodate my request. They provided ample space; in addition, no other patrons were seated next to us. The wait staff were on top of their game and able to read all my signals. All in all, we had a wonderful night. I highly recommend this establishment and encourage others who wish to experience a romantic evening to attend. Thanks again!!

This used to be one of my favorite romantic dinner places when I was a student! No money + 3 course crepe dinner = nice date night back then!
Nice table spacing and the restaurant is divided into little areas.
Maybe my tastebuds have evolved or I'm getting memory distortion, but my trip there wasn't as good as I remembered. We stopped by for lunch... not very busy but service was pretty slow.
We shared a starter of the croustilles au fromage, which is basically deep fried chips with dip. They're a little greasy and could be drained better, but the taste is good.
They still offer the 3-course meal which is a fabulous deal both at lunch and at dinner. Lunch version is about $15-$17 each depending on the crepe style, with your choice of salad and either the chocolate or strawberry crepe to finish.
The pear and blue cheese salad was OK. I got my usual Crepe Rosenkrantz with brie, asparagus and salmon. Very filling, okay taste. The crepe glace au chocolat is as tasty as I rememebered with the vanilla ice cream and almonds, but they totally shrunk the size!!! Eeek - it's half the size I remembered!
It's a great date place if you're on a budget, but I'm not sure I would make a special trip here again now that I no longer live here. -

I've eaten here before but didn't really remember the experience (is that good or bad?). Decided to try it again for our anniversary dinner.
The Good: The food and service were very good. We both took advantage of the three-course fixed price meal which offered great value. The pear-blue cheese spinach salad was very good and my wife enjoyed her Mediterranean salad. The chicken in the Crepe a la Reine was a little on the dry side, but otherwise good. The Seafood Americaine was very good. Sauces on both were quite heavy which made being wrapped in a crepe pointless IMO. Dessert crepes were very nice. We loved our server - a little rough on the edges but very friendly with a great sense of humour which I'll take anytime.
The Bad: The decor. Other reviews say it's so romantic. Nah - it's like stepping into a time machine back to the 70s. Restaurant Makeover would have a field day with this place. Most uncomfortable chairs I've ever sat in - they were so old, they had no cushioning left so you just sink into the wood. Bare threads everywhere, ancient decorations - the place reminded me of grandma's basement. Ironically, the bathrooms were modern and nicely redone.
Until the place gets a good reno, I can't see myself eating here again - the decor was just such a major turnoff. Too bad because the food was decent. -

This French restaurant is next to the Old Spaghetti Factory, down a short staircase. The lighting is dim (read: romantic) with a light soundtrack of French songs like La Vie en Rose & classical favorites plucked on guitar. The decor is homey and charming with themed areas: library, pantry, wine cellar, etc. There is a fantastic wine list. Service was quick and very attentive - but it was also 2pm on a weekday.
French onion soup - $8.75
My soup arrived very quickly with a beautiful crust of Swiss & Gruyere cheese. I found it a bit too salty (and I love salt), but sweetness of onions cuts through creating an odd but delicious sensation. There were lots of onions in the soup and it was quite hearty. With the complimentary bread the French onion soup would be a nice light lunch.
Crepe cordon Bleu - $12.95
Served with pasta, veggies. Crepe has chunks of chicken & ham in a creamy cheese sauce. It makes for great comfort food but is quite heavy. This thing is practically dripping with so much butter!
The washrooms were being renovated when I visited and the wall partitions hadn't been delivered yet so there were these weird shower-curtain-esque dividers up. There was an apology posted outside each washroom and a $5 off voucher was provided your next visit due to the inconvenience which I thought was a nice touch.
One of my favourite things about being in Alberta - only GST! (And FYI they are closed on Mondays) -

I honestly don't get the popularity of the Creperie. I mean there are real French restaurants in the city. They don't even serve crepes at all. They serve galletes (though probably not made with buckwheat). A crepe should be a light delicate thin pancake with an eggy taste, not the heavy bland things they turn out. You should be able to enjoy a crepe on its own without a filling. On that topic, their savoury fillings are the Chef Boyardee version of the real thing - the sauces too thick and salty instead of light and herby. In fact, all you taste is salt, from the onion soup to the St. Jacques and Bourguignon, even the Florentine (mmm salty spinach).
Maybe it appeals like the Pirates of the Carribean ride in Disneyland. I mean the decor is same, fake stone and dungeon like niches with staff in French waiter costumes instead of Pirate garb. It relies on a sense of suspension of disbelief. Yes, this is a real French crepe; I'm in a pirate cave and not Orange County. The low light probably helps in the same way; you can't actually see the reality. What the Olive Garden does for Italian food, the Creperie does for French. The most obvious sign of this is that the menu does not change. A real French restaurant, strike that, a real restaurant will change it's menu to take advantage of seasonal fresh ingredients. But the Creperie is serving that same thing day in and day out for decades. Go to a chain for that kind of food, it costs less.
This is a really popular place, but I don't get it. The service is attentive, friendly and efficient, but the point of going to a restaurant is to eat. It's not that the food is inedible, it's just not near authentic nor worth what they charge for it. I guess people will pay for the illusion sometimes and ignore the substance. -

Its been a little while since I've been here but I do come here on a regular basis, when time permits. I must say this is one of my favourite restaurants. Everything about it is fantastic, the food , wine, service. Ambiance of the restaurant is so romantic and very nice to bring your other half to, and enjoy. Their crepes are very good although I have always been stuck ordering my favourite and that's been the Crepe ST.Jacques. If you like seafood, and mushrooms go with this one, although there are so many to choose from, take a minute sip your wine and decide what your pallet would like.

Once again, I have to confess my love of The Creperie.
I can't even explain the feel of this place. It truly is the most romantic place in Edmonton. The whole atmosphere is incredible. I love it!
It's old fashioned and rustic but still upper class. The lighting and the music are perfect.
The staff are incredible. They really do go above and beyond. They definitely know the environment and they become a part of it. They want your experience there to be the best it could possibly be.
The food is amazing too. Absolutely mouth-watering.
I have nothing bad to say about The Creperie. I can't wait to go again!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Review from Adam S.
The Creperie is often voted as Edmonton's most romantic restaurant, a title that it definitely deserves. The dim lighting and semi-private booths in the front part of the restaurant are incredibly romantic.
Unfortunately, the seating in the part toward the back is less romantic. It's a bit less private, more brightly lit, and close enough to the kitchen that you can often hear the din of pots and pans. If you are in a situation where you can request where you'll be seated, I recommend asking for a seat as far away from the kitchen area as possible.
The other problem with the Creperie is that there are wooden partitions hanging in some sections. While these are fairly nice looking and help to create a sense of privacy, they tend to get banged around to easily. The last time I was there, it was impossible to get in and out of my chair without banging the chair into a partition, causing a huge clatter no matter how slowly I stood up.
Despite situations like the one I just described, the experience at the Creperie is usually positive. Even the worst of the servers at this restaurant are very good and the food is definitely up to snuff.
My girlfriend and I love this place. When we want to have a romantic night out, and aren't in the mood to try something new, the Creperie is our go-to place. After a meal here, we always feel relaxed and very happy. And most of the tables are situated so that you have enough privacy to really block out the rest of the patrons and focus on your date.
If you're looking for a romantic night on the town, with some very good food, I suggest that you hit the Creperie in downtown Edmonton. -
Review from Lauren N.
The Creperie is one of the best restaurants in Edmonton. It has a very romantic and old-fashioned atmosphere, coupled with some of the best crepes you will find within miles of this city. It's quite pricey for a single entree, but if you get the full three-course meal it's actually a better deal, depending on how much you can eat.
The restaurant is actually below street level, so you have to go down a steep staircase before you enter the dining area. Reservations beforehand is always a good idea here, because they're super-busy during the evenings. They have old wooden floors combined with lush carpeted areas. The lighting is soft, and there are additional candles on each tabletop. Large wood-paned mirrors hang from the ceiling behind the tables, adding to the upscale yet cozy atmosphere. The Creperie is a great restaurant for a romantic date; I wouldn't be surprised if a guy or two have popped the question here.
I came here on my birthday and ordered the crepe seafood americaine, which was delicious. It had lots of fresh seafood stuffed in it, and by the end, I felt as stuffed as the crepe in my tummy. My partner had the crepe jambalaya, because he likes things a little spicy, and enjoyed his choice as well. As usual, I was too full to order dessert, to my disappointment (damn my small stomach!). But it will happen eventually. It has to!
The Creperie is also great for large groups. I came here another time for my friend's birthday, and we had a big group of at least 13 people. The staff were very accommodating, and our waitress bent over backwards to serve us that night, taking extra orders and snapping photos for us.
So I highly recommend this restaurant for the next special occasion you plan on celebrating. Just look for the bright yellow awning and wooden double-doors outside!Listed in: Good for Groups, Best Eats, Romance ain't dead!

It's been years since I've been here but the memories are good. I must go back. Especially after having that crappy crepe at West Edmonton Mall at the booth Crepe Works. Le Junk. These are crepes as the French make them. Light, sweet, exquisite and cooked to perfection. Like a souffle. The service is great here, not rushed at all, but very French. They're more mature, polite, proper, even formal.
I had the mushroom, cheese, cream crepe. It was absolutely delicious. But you can also get a wide variety of crepes for a main meal or dessert. This place is higher class and it is not cheap. Good for a special date or occasion. They've done very well for years in their current location downtown beside the Old Spaghetti factory, although I don't know how, since I never think of this area as very busy. But I guess some places are built on a solid reputation and people just go. -

This is the most romantic restaurant in Edmonton. Right downtown, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, and perfect for a nice night out.
The food is delicious - they have a great French Onion soup. I would also recommend the duck (for a main course), and finishing it off with a desert crepe! -

Went there with the inlaws and had a great meal. Although some drunk homeless man(in a leather jacket) stole an old bottle of wine from the front display. I hope he enjoyed his red wine vinegar.
But back to the food, it was great and so wa the service. Make sure you book early for valentines day or mothers day -

Their french onion soup is the BEST in the city IMO and I would go there just for that soup - not too salt, generous amount of cheese and right amount of bread. Perfect for a light lunch altho it's a pretty substantial bowl of soup.
However, that is where it ends. Service can be really slow at times and I don't find their entrees particularly special. Some dishes are too rich an others just don't don't deliver anything special. Combined with the higher price point, I don't think dinner is good value. This resto is well-reviewed and well-loved. However, it's just okay for me. -

This place is a hidden gem in downtown. It is definitely for a special night as it has a romantic atmosphere. The service is good but sometimes average great service and the food is amazing.
I would advise that if you are here for a date that you ask for a secluded table and to make sure you can get seated, you should make a reservation well in advance. -

I've never been to The Creperie and when people ask me if I want to go there the first thing that comes to mind is, "I'm not in the mood for dessert." Anyways, a really good friend of mine picked this place for dinner and since I was in the mood for something sweet I decided to go. Well, where to start? I fell in love with the setting of the place... a hidden underground get away. The envrionment was pretty romantic, candle light and dim lights create the perfect mood. The menu was pretty vast... so there was a lot to choose from. I decided to get Crepe Cordon Bleu. It was heaven on earth. The mix of flavors was so delightful. I would have licked the plate clean if I wasn't in such a fancy looking place. I can't remember what my friend had but it had something to do with beef tenderloin and he loved it! The spice was right and he likes his spice. For the appetizer we got the Croustille Au Fromage which was a seasoned cheese crepe with garlic flavoured dip. The small basket stuffed us but it was too good to stop eating it. Everything was amazing... even the dessert! We shared dish of chocolate ice cream with orange sauce. It bill was reasonable, considering we could not move after eating all of that yummy food. I can't wait to go back and try something else on the menu; but than again, the Cordon Blue was sooooo go! The server we had was helpful and super friendly. I would recommend this place if you are looking to have a good time with someone over some good food. Enjoy!

My experience at The Creperie was very pleasant. One of my friends had a birthday celebration, and having decided to impress his guests with amazing food, he took us to The Creperie. Our party of seven was greeted with a smile and a warm welcome, and we were seated right away. Holy Mother of God, is the interior of this place beautiful! Dimmed lights, wooden decor, elegantly set tables. Very chic and romantic. I almost felt angry that my husband never brought me on a date to this place:)
When it was time to order, I regreted that I didn't have a bottomless stomach since everything on the menu looked mouthwatering and delicious, and I wished I could try a little bit of everything. I ended up ordering a mimosa salad and Crepe Seafood Americaine. Everyone in our group of seven ordered a crepe. And guess what? Everybody loved their food. The crepes were perfectly prepared: light and airy, and the seafood in mine was cooked to perfection. Yummy!
The Creperie is not your everyday restaurant. It is for special occasions only. I will definitely make sure that my husband and I come here at least once a year to give our taste palettes a special treat. -

I LOVE this place. How could you not when the food is exquisite, the service fantastic and the ambiance is as romantic as it gets? I've been here twice and both times were memorable experiences. On a super romantic date with the hubby we ordered the croustille au fromage which was absolute heaven dipped in cheese! The crepes are always light & fluffy which is perfect because it leaves room for dessert, my favorite part! The texture, flavor and presentation of the food is outstanding. I couldn't ask for anything more!!!

The Creperie is a nice restaurant with great service. It was a little dark for my liking, and the hanging partitions kept banging around, but it wasn't too awful. Unfortunately, I did not get to eat anything from the regular menu, but a custom menu made for our large group (great accomadations for large groups, btw). My crepe contained chicken with barbeque sauce, which I did not find very exciting. I would definitely return to try something else.
