Kid. Candy shop. Kid. Candy Shop. Kid. Candy shop. Wow, wow, wow.
The staff is the friendliest I've had the pleasure of meeting. And why shouldn't they be? They work in a store that specializes in fantasy. Get ready to see wigs of every shape and size (in affordable price ranges: $15-25), costumes of every flight and fancy for sale, and I did spy some pretty amazing rentals too (snow men, teddy bears, scary rabbits etc).
From costume shoes, wigs, accessories, tights, masks, and of course -- costumes (Strawberry Shortcake! Mad Hatter! Wenda and Waldo!!), The Costume Shoppe has me sold.
Extra points for shipping and having an online store. Bonus bonus points for pulling a brand new shipment out of the basement just so Wendy P and I could don our very own "Refreshinator" super hero costumes at Beer Fest.Listed in: Canadiana Quirks, Traveling Calgarian Style

I'm lovin' the Costume Shoppe. Once upon a time, they would've been top of mind at Halloween. Now, they're top of mind whenever I'm thinking a costume or accessory would be wise.
Take last Friday, for instance. We were running a photo booth at Lucha VaVoom and I thought it'd be cute to have a touch of something burlesque-ish for us gals workin' the booth to wear. The Costume Shoppe had to have something... and sure enough, I found the cutest little mini-top hats for each of us to pin in our hair. They were perfect!
Besides having an array of accessories and costumes for sale, they've got a back room full of costumes to rent as well. It can get a little pricey, but you'll come out looking better than anything you could've made at home (unless you have a seamstress on hand), spend a fraction of the time coming up with it and have a place to take it when it's all said and done.
You'll also be hard pressed to find more helpful staff. These ladies have been around the shop awhile and know what they're talking about. They also know their stock. They found me like half a dozen different looking hats in but a few minutes! -

Admittedly, I had never been to The Costume Shoppe until about a month ago. I had the luck to attend a VIP shopping night and see what it was all about, although I didn't make any purchases that evening.
The store has something for everyone. Pretty much any costume or accessory you might need is at the store. While you want to get your gear well in advance (a week +) of Halloween (the last week is complete mayhem) otherwise it's a pretty slick operation. Look through the books, write down your choices, and the staff bring it up to you.
A little inconvenient that they only give you one costume at a time to try on, but I totally get it - otherwise, the costume pieces would be everywhere & missing, things would be wrinkled, put in wrong packages, etc. Definitely a good way to keep things organized but slows down the process a little. What can you do?
They've also got a website (http://www.costumechik...) where you can look up what's in stock in prep for coming down to the store. Voila!

Love it! Needed to find accessories for my Halloween costume and stopped by here. This time of year there are a ton of options for your Halloween needs. This place has perfected the art of costume shopping.
The location has a tight parking lot - which is obviously going to be full the weekend before Halloween - but tons of street parking. (Today there was an added bonus of a Food Truck! - yum!)
What sets this place apart from the rest is that, things are not ridiculously expensive - I found it to be VERY affordable. Other places I feel like they're out to get you just so they can become profitable for the few weeks they operate.
The absolute best part of my shopping experience here was the service!!! The blonde girl helping me was one of the most helpful salesperson ever. (So were the other sales people). They help you find exactly what you're looking for, and give you some great insight into your costume.
Please note: this place is obviously going to be packed during October - so be patient! -

I finally had a good excuse to visit the relocated Costume Shoppe, as I hadn't been here since it was in Inglewood. Hello, Halloween! It's my favorite 'holiday' of the year and the Shoppe did not disappoint. Wow, what an awesome selection. For some reason I don't remember being this excited about it before. I only had Halloween on my mind but the insane assortment of stuff enticed me to broadened my search and I purchased various accessories for other fun, dress-up occasions. I bought some sweet legwarmers and a pair of crazy glasses. In fact, the selection of glasses is so entertaining that I probably spent 15 minutes just browsing and trying them on. I had to get a second opinion because I couldn't make up my mind between two pairs, but I really could have blown money on five. Other items that really drew my attention were the cool hats and masks (some made with leather that apparently mold to your face over time to make a nice fit). The selection of costumes is insane and you basically need to review the catalogs, then have the staff fetch the ones you're interested in to try them on.
To fully embrace the shopping experience here, be sure you've got an hour to spare (unless you have a specific item in mind). Don't limit your visits for the sole purpose of Halloween either because you'd be missing out. -

I discovered this funky joint on a recent stroll in Inglewood, and I had a groovy time. I was greeted straight away and asked if I required any assistance. When I said I was just browsing, I was free to do that, sans pressure. Something tells me they likely get a lot of browsers here, and why wouldn't they? They have every kind of costume imaginable, which are available to rent or buy. They've got masks-a-plenty, wigs, costume footwear, funky glasses, Halloween decorations, and boas. Oh, so many boas, in every colour of the rainbow. I had no idea they were in such high demand.
I'd highly recommend reserving your costume selection in advance of any major holiday or else you'll be out of luck, although there are plenty of other costumes to choose from if you don't get your first choice. -

No idea why, but yesterday was the first time I visited The Costume Shoppe. Picture a girl, young at heart, walking into a gigantic store that embodies Mr. Dressup's Tickle Trunk within four walls. Heaven. On. Earth.
The Costume Shoppe is a bigger, better version of Malabar (a popular costume shop in Toronto). This place has got everything from mascot costumes, to a full suit of armour; Disney characters to Sesame Street ones. And the best part? Depending on exactly what you need the get-up for, you can choose to rent or buy.
Why haven't I been sourcing all my Halloween costumes from here?!??! I could have won a mini fortune in 'Best Costume' prizes all these years!
And look out all you die-hard costume junkies. If you LOVE all the added frills, then I assure you, this place has got shoes, wigs and costume make-up that I've never seen before.
Oh, and let me tell you about the service. It rocked. I was well taken care of, and I completely appreciated their toe-tappin' music playing in the background of my visit.
Hands down da bomb. -

This store has an absolutely impressive selection of costumes; over 1,500 as a matter of fact, there is no way you are not going to find what you are looking for in here.
You can rent their costumes or you can simply buy them. $80 to $120 gets you a 3 day rental from head to above the toe costume(shoes not included) and if you want a more extravagant one they do have them for a little bit more.
But don't bother dry cleaning or mending a tear before bringing it back in, they will do that all for you, they even have seamstresses on staff.
According to the very friendly and helpful salesgirl, in the history of the existence of the Costume Shoppe never has she seen any misuse or negligence of a costume rental. Even the big mascot costumes, you know with the big animal heads have seen a great survival existence even though clients have worn them at the bar.
But it doesn't stop here; there is a shoe department, wigs, makeup, masks, hats and accessories. It seems like a pretty well oiled Costume Machine Shoppe here.
Some things to improve perhaps would be to repaint that really dull and dirty looking yellow painted wall and replace those old Styrofoam mannequins heads with newer ones. But I guess with the obvious age of the place comes a reputation of still being around after all these years so they must be doing things right.
