Review from Amy T.
My husband and I were walking along West 4th and had some time to kill so we decided to pop in.
This store is pretty big and has a lot of items that are hard to find in other hobby or comic stores. They have comic books (obviously), figurines, novels and some toys. I really liked the decor as there were a lot of vintage Batman items such as the rug and clock.
The man working there greeted us, but the lady ignored us and read her book the whole time.
If you are hunting down that hard to locate item, I'm sure you will find what you are looking for in this store. -

Ah, starting an account with a new comic shop! It's an exhilarating experience, not unlike starting a relationship with a new girlfriend, all smiles and good times until that day a few years down the road when it's all acrimony and tears and your life turns to garbage for a few months. Actually, reading that back it seems like perhaps I'm projecting a little, but we aren't here to discuss my debilitating neuroses, we're here to talk about the Comicshop!
I've been casually shopping at The Comicshop for years, although never as a regular. There's always been a more convenient store in close proximity, but with my recent move to the West End and my reluctance to shop regularly with Golden Age (the reasons for which were enumerated in my review) I've had to look a little further afield for a new place to cop my weekly fix of comics. Enter the Comicshop, the new location of which is conveniently located along the route of the 44 bus making it easily accessible on my commute home from work. The other day was actually my first stop in at the new location, and I was pleased to see that my favorite things about the old store had been largely preserved. First off the bat, bright, clean and well-lit! You know how on The Simpsons the comic book store is called "The Android's Dungeon"? That's because when I was coming up most comic stores were almost literal dungeons, on some dark, dank and dirty if you follow. It's always nice when a store wants to be open and inviting, and The Comicshop gets full marks for their legacy yellow and red color scheme and welcoming atmosphere. Secondly, I love that they display their wares proudly. Rather than place the non-new release trade paperbacks and evergreen titles on bookshelves spines out, they've really made an effort to have all manner of comics racked with covers easily visible to the casual browser. I love seeing indie titles share shelf space with stuff from Marvel and DC, and not just genre stuff either, there was plenty of biographical and historical material, almost a surprising amount actually. Oh, and these guys are diligently pricing their books to account for the actual exchange rate based on the american cover price, which anyone who has ever paid $30 Canadian cover price for a trade priced at $20 in the States will appreciate.
The staff seemed to be the same guys who've always worked there, which is great since they're old school comic nerds and therefore the kind of people I relate to very easy. What can I say, I run with freaks and geeks, these are my people. That said, the fellas are polite and knowledgeable and asked if they could help me when I walked in the door and were quite helpful in setting up a pull file for me to get my weekly titles set aside. There was a $25 deposit involved which is fair enough considering the number of people who I'm sure start an account and then never pick up there titles. And hey, having a file confers other benefits, like copies of Previews (the catalogue for the industry's sole remaining distributor) at half price and a discount on back issues. Speaking of back issues, there was still a decent selection, although I imagine that part of being a full service comic shop is dying what with the current move by publishers to keep stuff in print in the form of trade paperbacks. I'd also note that there seemed to be a decent amount of toys, posters and other related merchandise, I don't buy a lot of that stuff, but it's nice to see them keeping a toe in the pool.
I'm quite happy with my new "homebase" store, as someone who's been in comic shops all over Canada, the US and overseas I can honestly say that it fulfills all my basic requirements and then some. I look forward to spending some cash with them, no matter how much my life changes I like having a comic shop to call home.Listed in: Geek Vancouver

I'm not a big comic book person, but my boyfriend is, so after visiting Scoop, we decided to take a look at this place.
After looking through the window, I thought this would be a quick 3 minute stop, but their main floor was upstairs. They seemed to have a wide selection of comics and what you'd usually find with comics (action figures, graphic novels, etc.), complete with a bargain basement, making this place have 3 levels of comic goodness.
However, one complaint my boyfriend had was that it was hard for him to find what he wanted, since he had no idea how everything was arranged. Other than that, it seemed like a pretty good place. -

probably way better than RX because of diversity and space. hella big selection of cheap and free stuff. very decent range of erotic and marginal comics. very helpful and nerdy staff. i wanted some magic booster packs i didn't see them also get rid of the candy. too many kids in there can get annoying.
