I'm not sure what the full prices are for this place, but if you can work a good price through one of the brokers, I think you'll be really happy with the bargain here. I certainly was, though friends put the deal together for us all and I just tagged along.

The location is great for the views--you have wonderful city and water angles to choose from (or, rather, the front desk does, when they assign your room).

What you get in terms of service and amenities is more than solid, across the board. Comfortable beds, good linen. Torrefazione coffee--well, OK, they're the little packs in the mini-drip machine, but, still, better than many. Huge deep tubs. Very hot water. Just about melted myself taking a bath. Everything's clean. All the little details are good--liquid soap and shampoo, lots of accoutrements with the coffee, nice clock radio and lamps, stuff that places can skimp on is all covered here. You get a nice note if you leave the Do Not Disturb sign out. Essentially, this is a really nice hotel (maybe not quite a luxury hotel, but really nice) that you can book (especially in the off season) for a good rate if you look sharp about it.

There are restaurants and shops all over the place on the mezzanine levels. The concierges and desk staff were always really nice and had tons of good pointers about the city. I'd stay in this place again happily every time I am in town.

This hotel made me realize that I must normally stay in 4-star hotels. This one was BLECH!!

    Pros:
The TV that swivels from the bed area to the couch area is cool.
Great location!! Right next to two parks and walking distance to a bunch of great restaurants!
Kitchenette was nice to have (microwave)
    Balcony!

    Cons:
    Mildly scary elevators
Dishes didn't look clean and the silverware drawer smelled like mildew
The whole place smells kinda like grandma. Not the cool grandma.
Low water pressure in the shower
Everything felt dirty, from the old carpet to the shampoo dispenser. The sheets were clean.
    $25 a night for parking.

Given what I know about the area now, there are nicer hotels in the west end for similar prices that wont make me feel icky for touching surfaces in the room.

It's very rare that I write a 2 or 3 star review, because frankly I find it hard to get enthusiastic about something so "middle of the road" - but in the quest to write 30 reviews in 2 days, one can't really afford to leave any stone, no matter how ho-hum, unturned.

We'll start from the beginning: I arrived at the Coast Plaza at 7:30 in the morning after a 12 hour road trip from Calgary, which ITSELF embarked immediately after I got off work. Needless to say, I was exhausted. However, noticing that the hotel was still showing vacancies for the night before as of when I left, I figured that I'd ask if there was a chance there was a room open that I could check into early and get some sleep before my plans that evening. This is where my first negative point came in: I'm not sure if she was simply ignoring my request or if it was because English was clearly her second language and she just didn't understand what I was saying, but the woman behind the desk didn't even answer the question (despite being asked twice), much less seem to do anything to actually look into it... she simply processed the check in, gave me my key, and told me to come back around 1 pm. Already, I wasn't enthused.

After walking around downtown Vancouver with a dead cellphone, trying to get around by memory because I didn't have access to my GPS, for several hours I eventually came back and got checked in okay. Now, on the plus side, the room I got was HUGE for the price I paid... with the biggest TV I've ever had in a hotel (including another downtown Vancouver one I stayed in that cost almost twice as much) on a handy swivel base so it could be turned to the bed area, the little makeshift living room OR the miniature dining room area (it could even point toward the bathroom, if one was staying alone and inclined to leave the door open while going through their morning routine or what have you). The housekeeping service was incredibly consistent, to the point that every evening when I came back everything looked exactly as it had when I checked in, not a thing out of place, and the rest of the front staff I encountered during my visit were very couteous and helpful.

However, to further add to the negatives, I don't know what the words "Do Not Disturb" mean to these people... but apparently hanging said sign on your door knob to allow you to sleep in rather than being disturbed by house keeping just meant 'instead, call the room phone in a few minutes and wake me up'. Every morning I didn't have plans for, I was called by 10 at the latest (which, considering my occupation is rather early for me) to ask when they could clean the room, and a couple of the dishes were already dirty upon my arrival.

I was also given free Wi-Fi, which was a welcome surprise since the reviews suggested I'd have to pay for it, but the excitement over that little surprise quickly faded once I discovered I could never get more than a 1 bar out of 5 signal, and would spend 20 minutes waiting for a website to load. I sent down a complaint about this via a comment card, but nothing was ever done about it.

I booked my room here through a hotwire sale price, thus I got the room for a little over 30% off. Given the location, and the size and quality of the room itself, I'd say I got my moneys worth... but I know if I had paid full price, the list of grievences would have been way more than I'd be willing to endure.

So all in all I'd say if you can score a good deal on a room here, you could really do a lot worse... but don't expect anything great, by any extent.

Big rooms with amazing views and so close to Stanley park! Affordable pricing with really good amenities, including free wifi. The beds and linens are comfortable and clean. The balcony views are amazing. You'll be wanting to take plenty of pictures, trust me. The staff went out of their way to make sure we were happy and taken care of. The only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is that the decor is a little outdated, but that can be fixed in a few years. Recommended!

What saved this hotel from only getting one star? The staff and the free wi-fi. How in the hooha is this place considered a 3 star hotel? We got the room for cheap through Priceline ($100 a night), but they normally charge about double that.

The room was VERY dated. I felt like I flew back to the early 90's or late 80's. The bathroom had a pink toilet and tub (our bathroom included mold on the ceiling) and the room had old pink wallpaper.

The location is not very close to downtown but is in a cute residential neighborhood close to the bay and Stanley Park. I had a great time in Vancouver but I would never stay here again.

Unfortunately I do not have anything nice to say about the room at all, the air conditioning didn't work. The hotel is very old and smells musty, they've done some minor renovations but hardly enough to make it worth the price tag that they are "advertising".

Pretty good location in the city that is within walking distance of plenty of grocery stores and shopping areas. The tower is situated right on the edge of a residential district which adds a lot of character.

Kitchen is nice to be able to cook and reheat leftovers. Will definitely save you money since everything cost 30% more in Vancouver than it does in the states!

Free wifi helps mask the pain a bit; however, the cheap sheets and hard beds definitely dont make me want to go back.

We stayed in a Coast Hotel in Portland, Oregon the week before and it was a great old hotel that had a lot of character which was restored to it's glory. Not so much with this one in Vancouver, BC ... I would say to stay far away from this place as possible.

Great location.  Very comfortable beds.  Otherwise, this place doesn't have a lot going for it.  It cost $25 a day to park my car.  The hotel is very old.  I think the carpet is from the 1980s.  I think they still have popcorn ceilings.  The elevators are very small.  You'd need vaseline to fit four people in there. I tried to exchange some Canadian currency, but they'll only give $100 a day.  I asked if they can make an exception, since there are two of us staying in the room.  The Japanese woman at the front desk keeps on repeating the same line, "It is our policy to exchange $100 a day.  There are no exceptions." It was like talking to a wall.

I didn't know what to expect, especially reading all these reviews. But I had a great experience there!

First of all, the hotel's location is AMAZING! It's in the West End of Downtown and there are so many small ethnic and charming restaurants all within walking distance!  The English Bay also is right by the hotel and you can walk to Stanley Park from there. In fact, you can walk from this hotel to Chinatown! It really didn't take very long.

The staff were really really helpful and friendly! They remembered where we went on a particular day and always asked us how our visit was (whether it's a site or a restaurant). They also gave us recommendations on where to go and where to eat!

The rooms were HUGE! Ok, the furniture was a little dated but who cares?? The beds were comfy and so were the sheets, those are the important things right? The views from the balcony were breathtaking!

It's a dog-friendly hotel and we could hear barking in the late morning, but that didn't bother me one bit. In fact, it was really cute to see people with their pets in the lobby!

Dated very dated!  Sure the staff is great, the room appears clean...I say appears because God knows what germs are on the couch and bed cover.

The towels in the bathroom suck big time!  They barely cover an ass cheek and I don't have a big ass.  Not to mention how terribly they absorb.  They are the same type you get in a YMCA...assuming the Y has towel service.

I know the Coast knows how to do it right in a hotel because I have stayed in the newest one in Vancouver.  If you do need a Coast in this city I suggest you get the new one downtown.

This hotel provided a large room with a kitchenette, and it is close to Stanley Park. The neighborhood near Stanley Park on Denman St. and elsewhere is cool, and seemed to have a number of decent restaurants.

However, I agree with all the other reviews saying this hotel is very dated. The room was kind of run down and everything seemed old and worn. The free wifi only worked in the corner of our room by the door. Also, if you are going to go into downtown, this hotel is 7 to 10 blocks away from the central downtown area, and you will need to walk or take a cab for at least $7.

We booked a room at the Coast Plaza Hotel & Suites on Hotwire for a decent price.  What neither Hotwire nor Coast Plaza told us until we showed up was that the hotel was in the middle of construction, and that there would be a crew working from 8:30 in the morning, right in our ears.

Even without the construction, I found little to love about the hotel.  Everything about it felt a little bit old and shabby, from the tired lobby to the scratchy covers and gross velvet-esque sheets you find in dated motels.

At the very least, the staff was pleasant, our room was spacious, and the location of the hotel was, as far as I could tell, pretty decent.  Even so, I wouldn't recommend the place or come back ever again.

The only thing going for this hotel is its location, and the low rate you can find on Priceline ($86 + tax in June). The place is depressing and really does not belong in place as yound and energetic as today's Vancouver.

One of the best hotels ive stayed in.

    Great jaccuzi suite
    Great views
Awesome fluffy beds with duvet covers and feather pillows
    Turndown service
    shopping center in the building
    Continental breakfast was top notch.

If you are in B.C and want a romantic getaway, they have a romance package. Ask for the Cypress Suite.

My stay last night was pretty OK.

    The pro:
Great location in the West End.
Pretty quiet (very quiet, except for some ventilation system noise)
    ENORMOUS room
Comfy queen bed for me, comfy double for my luggage
Heavy drapes made it nice and dark for sleeping
    Decent TV, tables and chairs
    Nice tourist info.
    Pleasant staff
    Tons of toiletries and towels.
Man, it was really an enormous room

    The con:
It is pretty dated. The plumbing in particular was showing its age.
Took a good five minutes to convince the shower to produce something between scalding and freezing. Nice once it worked, though.
The previous guest left a couple of tufts of dog fur in the middle of the floor that the vaccuum missed. Glad I'm not allergic.

All in all, it was pretty serviceable as a fairly cheap quiet place to stay. But not great.

I should note that I didn't make use of any of the amenities. Can't tell you what the jacuzzi or fitness area looked like.

I have done a couple of work events in rented rooms there over the years and they have always been good venues and good staff.

We were forced to change rooms 4 times on this first night. Everything seemed to be broken. Key card readers, showers, they couldn't get the # of beds we needed right. We finally got into a room that had 2 beds and a working shower but the beds had magically shrunk from queens to doubles. We already moved enough that we just let that go. With all that inconvenience we weren't offered anything like comped parking or breakfast. Even one of the elevators was stuck at the lobby level, door open with an "out of order" sign inside.

The hair dryer worked in 4 minute spurts. The thermostat didn't really work at all. The glass door to the balcony was incredibly drafty in all the rooms. The internet was down for a full night of our stay which we were using to plan our daily activities. The location was great, the staff was nice enough, and the price was right (booked through Hotwire).

The pool area is a little creepy being in the basement with the parking lot.  You could hear the echo of the cars driving by.  At least it's indoors, right?  Our suite was really cold on the first couple of nights, but after we asked for a space heater, the temperature of the room became pretty warm.  I would more likely recommend booking this place during the summer because of this issue.  The baseboard heaters didn't seem to be strong enough against the Canadian frost, even when set at the maximum.

Since the hotel was originally an apartment building, our junior suite was the size of a regular one-bedroom apartment and was very spacious and cozy.  I loved the full kitchen!  It definitely saved us some money on eating out and made the stay feel like home.  Housekeeping was very diligent.  When we slept in, they always came back later to make sure our room was in tip-top shape.  It is very conveniently located near numerous eateries, two grocery stores, Davie Village, and Robson Street within walking distance.

You should visit the bar inside the hotel.  I loved the banana martini there.  Unfortunately, I don't remember what the ingredients were and haven't been able to find a recipe or a bartender to make it.  All I remember was that it was blue and had vodka in it...

The only problem I had with this hotel was that it was gross.  I don't like being grossed out by the place I have to sleep in.

I wouldn't have had a single problem if they had updated their furnishings.  The feeling of the sheets and bed comforter were enough to make my skin crawl.

Granted, I do like the location and proximity to things, allows for leisurely walks throughout Vancouver.

Reviews of this hotel that call it outdated, or with older furnishings, well, OK, this is not a stay at the Hyatt Regency or Westin, but we really don't think that it can be beat for numerous reasons.  We've stayed here 5 or 6 times in the last 5 years, and every time has been a total pleasure.  The staff is very friendly and will do anything to make you comfortable, including giving you the best room that they can in the price category (or better), allowing late checkout whenever possible, free bottled water from the concierge, basically they treat you like you matter.

It's actually a very cool place, feels like a converted apartment building given the spacious rooms, interesting configurations with small patios, kitchens, and hallways.   Room amenities are generous (coffee and kitchen supplies, bathroom soaps and shower gel), even if the countertops are not granite and the showers not Italian tile...but big deal, a decent shower with plenty of room and hot water and nice towels can only get so good.  There is room to relax, free wireless internet, great windows, connected stores, restaurants, and the health club at the lower levels, and above all else - it's on Denman in West End!

If you don't know this neighborhood and all that you have ever done is deal with the crummy tourist crowds, chain retailers, and high prices up and down Robson, then you owe it yourself to check it out.  Great food in local independent spots with choices galore line Denman and Davie - the Banana Leaf, Stepho's, sushi places too numerous to name, burgers, cupcakes, coffee and pubs.  The food is better than in the center of downtown, the prices way lower, the crowds are local residents, and the people watching is great.  Families actually shop and walk their dogs along these streets, the gay community calls it home, and you can walk about 1 block to get to English Bay Beach to start your Stanley Park walk.  The way that we travel, it's far more fun to be a part of real life in Vancouver and not overspend by being at this hotel and in this part of town - though the comfort and fun and quality of the visit is just as good!  Besides, it's only about 7-10 blocks to get to the end of Robson and go that way, if you just can't resist the urge to get to Armani or something.

(And I would actually give the hotel 5 stars but for the cost of parking, at $22/day, though this is an expensive deal in this city everywhere - even the street meters are $1 for 30 minutes and require payment until 10 pm 7 days a week!  Best to walk, and learn the public transit routes).

Stayed here June 18; we were a group of 11 family staying one night before a cruise.  The coast was a great choice for us, coming in around $220/room. Great neighborhood with many interesting restaurants, easy walk to the beach and stanley park. Rooms are basic but certainly comfortable; we had a great stay in vancouver and the coast certainly helped! Staff were very helpful. There was significant construction being performed during the day, though it stops at 5pm.

Been to Vancouver three times and everytime I'm here, I book this hotel via http://travelocity.com.  This place is very convenient, clean, and comfortable.  I don't know how much it is booking this hotel separately but booking this hotel with airfare is rather reasonable (cheaper during winter).  It is located walking distance to Stanley Park, Robson Street, and right next to Denman where all the good food are (Mr. Pickwicks, Cupcakes, True Confections, Banana Leaf, etc).  Plus there's a supermarket and drugstore right below the hotel and it's convenient if you're traveling via bus.  Definately recommend this place if you're visiting Vancouver!
