I now live in Colorado, and before we moved, was super depressed since I knew I was leaving a great hair girl in Megan at Circle Salon. But I figured, it's time to move on, not like I'm going to spend money toward a plane ticket just to fly back for a haircut.
Well, I take that back. After an awful grow out period with my hair after getting it cut at a salon in Boulder, I decided that the next time I was in Chicago, I was going back to my girl Megan at Circle Salon. Same fantastic service, same fantastic haircut, best freaking head massage in the world. Smartest thing I've ever done - again, my hair is growing out wonderfully, and I've already made my next appointment with her when I'm back in Chicago in a couple of months.2 Previous Reviews: Show all »

Incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff. My issue is with price which, for a guy's hair cut, seemed a bit steep. That, and tips were only accepted in cash, which was annoying in that the nearest ATM had a service fee and then I needed to break the bill.

This review update is for Steven--he's simply amazing. He's an artist.
Unfortunately, after my prior experience with one of their former stylists, I went elsewhere for a cut and found a great stylist at Salon Buzz. I really like The Circle Salon in general and wanted to give them a second chance, so I went to Steven about a year ago for some feather extensions. He has a wonderful demeanor, kinda quiet, but fun to talk w/. He doesn't push conversation to fill silence, and you can let him work his magic. When I had problems w/ a feather, I went back in to have it fixed, and he threw in a couple more, just for fun (complimentary, for my "trouble.") I went back to him later in the summer to have color done. WOW.
I asked for all-over highlights that were subtle--I wanted a range of golden--super light, to honey brown. I spend 2 minutes a day on my long hair, and definitely don't have time to keep up w/ roots--so I needed something easy to maintain. I have brown hair and he put the most amazing, natural looking array of golden highlights throughout my hair. It was exactly what I asked for. It worked w/ my layers and looks like I spent months in California. Steven's a perfectionist. Love love love!! I have been with the same stylist for 10 years and have begrudgingly been on the hunt for a new salon/stylist after moving. I have been to probably 6 or 7 salons in my search and they all failed to impress.
From the minute I stepped into Circles I knew I would love it. Not only did they get me a same day appt but the cutie patootue receptionist was super sweet and welcoming. No snooty holier than thou assymetrical haircut hipster sneering at me while ignoring me at the same time.
The stylist Sarah was super sweet and chatty and had lots of good bits of advice. She immediately understood what i was going for and the time flew by quickly. I also love the setup of back to back stations and mirrors that let you see your new hot hair from all angles.
This place is super clean, cute, hip but not snooty, and you can tell the owners and managers have set a really great tone for their team and everyone is on the same page. The girls in front even called me by name on the way out to tell me how much they liked my hair!

I am so glad I found Stephen at Circle Salon. I have been looking to get my hair Thermal Reconditioned ever since I moved from LA to Chicago and all I find are BKT- which I am not a fan of.
This salon was amazing, my hair looks amazing, they use fantastic products (I was specific about wanting Liscio for my TR) and beyond my great hair- the service was amazing. The price for this type of procedure can be all over the map, but they charge by the hour which I really appreciate because it is based on how long your procedure takes and the stylists time- not just a flat rate which in many cases is obscenely expensive!

One of the BEST SALONS around.
Clean, Friendly and best of all.. Stylists that listen and strive hard to please!
I saw Terra and she was wonderful! My hair is the perfect color blonde and my cut looks great.
They also explain all the products they use and ask how you style your hair at home to make it easier once you leave the salon!

Two reasons you know you've entered a high quality salon: the place is spotless and every stylist has gorgeous locks.
Walking into Circle on Friday, and noticing these two things immediately, I knew it was going to be a good experience.
And it was. It's obvious this place is focused on customer service - drink menu, cookies and a warm hand towel right off the bat, a footrest to use while getting your hair washed, and an awesome scalp massage that the salon created just for their customers...need I go on?
My stylist, Sarah E., is super talented at what she does, and it's obvious as soon as you sit down. She does a phenomenal job of explaining what she recommends and why, and she addresses questions/concerns with clear, concise answers that really make sense. It's so refreshing to be able to trust your hair in someone's hands, and you can certainly do that with her.

Amazing salon! I highly recommend the Circle Salon and specifically stylist Terra! Everyone is extremely friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere is very relaxing and the haircuts are fabulous. Terra is the best, she has great skills. I wish I could visit her daily to do my hair. She does such a wonderful job.

Just got back from a full colour process and cut from Circle and I'm having buyer's remorse...
Let me explain - bought a Living Social Deal ($40 or $85 worth of services) a couple weeks ago and rushed to book my appointment. They scheduled me with Steven - great. Now here's where I went wrong, and I totally admit this is my bad - I didn't bone up on the different stylists and their "belt levels" before I went to the salon (they operate on the martial arts system of belt colours - black belt being the highest) so I was unaware that Steven was a brown belt which charges at the top level of the pricing structure.
Now Steven is AWESOME - I had a great time, good conversation, was pampered and relaxed, and my colour is GORGEOUS and well worth the expense, so I would give 5 stars for just that - however, my cut was a simple trim, took him less than 10 minutes to do and cost just as much as the colour. OUCH. By the time I tipped him I was out an additional $90 over and above the $85 deal. That sucks. I quite honestly could have gotten the same cut at Hair Cuttery and paid $15 (my hair is long and straight so honestly it's nothing special to cut at all). This is really nothing against Steven - I'd love to return to him to get a fun, funky, shorter "do" to see what he can really do as a stylist - I just don't think what I requested of him today was worth $90. So that's why the 3-star rating.
Otherwise, the salon is comfy, the products are great and the customer service was excellent. Next time I'll just leave after the colour treatment and get a cheap cut where I can afford it. -

Corrective Color. For any blonde, turned brunette, trying to get blonde again- you know, it can be the most traumatic experience of your life. Well...at least of your year.
Tiffany stepped up to the plate, er, chair like a champ. She turned my boxed reddish brunette into a warm blonde. It looked great, but my picky self decided I would rather have lighter hair the next morning (her day off) and, get this, SHE CAME IN ON HER DAY OFF to give me highlights. How amazing is she? Let me count the ways: 1) she is really fun, 2) she remembers everything about my life between visits, 3) she made my bangs side sweep like a red carpet movie star!! 4) her prices are outstanding! 5) did I mention coming in on her day off??
Also - THEY GIVE YOU COOKIES! They have a beverage menu and hot towels. They use wonderful products. And in a homey, friendly, comfortably environment!
Simply put: Circle Salon (and Tiffany) is the most lovely, wonderful find in all of Chicago. I honestly can't say enough about her! She went above and beyond the call --- 5 stars isn't enough. -

I was lucky!!
I was lucky to buy the living social deal considering that the day it was on was a very busy day.
I wouldn't say I'm obsessed about my hair but I was super nervous about getting bangs. After reading reviews on yelp, I decided that I would ask for bangs only if Steven or Terra were to do it. So, I got Steven to do my hair. And he's amazing!! I love my new haircut and probably will keep my bangs for longer than I initially intended. The cut's so versatile that it looks good with a ponny tail or loosely knotted (the only way I can function at work!!).
I'm definitely going back!! -

I love Montgomery at Marquin Salon to death. He does a phenomenal job straightening my hair-- but he just doesn't like to cut it. So I decided to visit Terra at Circle Salon who cut my hair last year when it was uber short.
Terra is great at what she does. She listens to what you want and even if you don't have a picture, if you are able to articulate what you are trying to achieve she can pull it off. I was in and out of her chair in 30 minutes with a great cut and a huge smile on my face.
Aside from that, the salon is chic and modern with a friendly staff. They go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and even offer tea and cookies as you are getting all done up.Listed in: Isn't She Lovely

I FINALLY FOUND MY SALON!!!!!
I'm the most picky person when it comes to my hair and where I get it done. That being stated, The Circle Salon gets an A++ in my book! It's not only super clean, chic, modern and friendly, but also super cheap for using high-end products. I got my hair colored there by Steven, and from the start he was perfect. He was super nice, personable, accurate and seemed very well-informed about his job and the science that goes behind it (which some stylists aren't). He explained to me that the hair color they use has as little amonia as possible, which pleased me. Most importantly, Steven LISTENED to what I want my hair to look like. I had a blast at The Circle Salon and will definately go there again! -

I have to tell you, this place is wonderful! I had gotten a recommendation from a girlfriend to bring my mom here. My girlfriend told me that Jamie was the best hairstylist she knew... and she's right! My mom had been bugging me about wanting to do a "make over". And I did a lot of research to find the best place, for my mom to feel very special for a gift.
Oh my gosh, Jamie and Clayton are the best. The totally helped me and my sister plan the most perfect gift to my mom, the perfect hairstyle and making her feel oh so special. And they were even conveniently located near a couple nail salons where while my mom's color was processing, we could easily get our nails done!
And while my mom had a lot of stuff done, pricing was right in line with what we were expecting. So you get awesome service, and awesome style at a reasonable price.
My mom (who lives in Wisconsin) plans to make a trip back for a touch up before they head to Florida in the fall. So she's willing to travel a couple hours for the professional service! That should say something about this place... they are awesome! -

I am a very fickle head of hair and haven't really committed to a salon in a few years... I think I am ready to "marry" The Circle Salon though. Erica highlighted and cut my hair perfectly. Here are the other reasons I'll go back:
1) Erica didn't abandon me-- one complaint I often have when getting my hair done is that sometimes the stylist will excessively multitask, disappearing for long intervals and leaving me bored and wondering whether the chemicals on my head are possibly going to make my hair fall out...didn't happen here.
2) Comfortable shampoo bowls! Adjustable bowls, reclining chairs.
3) Not overpriced. I paid around $150.
4) Very modern/stylish but comfy decor.
No complaints!! I think we'll be 'together' for a long time! -

Yes, I may have found "the one." Finally.
I've lived in Chicago a little over two years now, and have been bouncing from salon to salon, stylist to stylist, trying to find that one person who could cut my hair just perfectly and keep a conversation. Thank you Erica!
She gave me the cutest cut and color. The layers work perfectly with my natural waves... waves that I used to curse, but now I adore them! I can just let my hair air dry and it looks great. I haven't been this happy about a haircut in a while.
And, to top it all off, I wasn't at the salon all day long! She really did a great job getting me in and out quickly... no wasted time sitting in a chair.
Plus, the little perks like cookies and drinks are appreciated! Next time I'll have to remember to make a night appointment so I can enjoy myself some wine.
Great little salon and I'll definitely continue to go there. Prices are about standard as far as nice salons go. Their product line is nice too--my hair smelled so good leaving there, and it didn't feel so weighted down like a lot of products can do. -

I visited the Circle Salon for the first time last month, and I had a terrific experience.
Upon arrival I was offered a glass of wine which was delivered with cookies and a hot towel. Amazing. The shampoo area is lovely, dim and peaceful. Really, this whole place is nice, and relaxing, and makes you feel prepared for pampering. Most importantly, Sarah cut my hair beautifully (which most can't because its stick-straight), explained what she was doing, which products she was using and why.
Overall, a great experience. Calming, reasonably priced and I walked out with a killer haircut. I will be back for sure, and would highly recommend both Sarah and the Circle Salon. -

I have remained super happy with my haircuts. I went in a few weeks ago to see Steve and got my hair color...it's great, beautiful shine health red. Love it!
I also indulged and got the Brazilian Blowout, a straighting system. I was a little worried about damage but the process isn't as harsh like many other straighteners, and weeks later I can tell you my hair is still silky, soft, and smooth. My wife dragged me (kicking and screaming, basically) to the Circle Salon for a haircut before we got married, and I actually liked it. Now I go every month or so. They're nice people, they give me coffee and cookies when I show up, and Terra always makes my hair look nice.
Go for the cookies. Stay for the hair cuttin'. -

Hooray for Erica! I found Circle Salon because they offered a Groupon -- I checked out their website and was psyched to find out about their green efforts and to learn that they carry Davines hair products.
Erica did a fantastic job. I'm really picky about my hair color, and my highlights were PERFECT -- fine and natural. She used a technique to ensure that I didn't end up with "rows" of highlights, and they look great in a ponytail (I don't have bangs, and that's the ultimate test for me). And the cut was incredible. She took off a few inches to restore some health to my hair, and the length and style look great.
I immediately scheduled my next appointment for one week before my out-of-town wedding. So glad I found a stylist that I trust. -

OK so I moved here from NC where I absolutely loved and I mean loved my beautician! It is hard to find someone who knows exactly the right color / high light combination AND how to cut your hair just right AND how to blow it out where you need to do absolutely nothing else to get the look you want.
I have tried SEVERAL and I mean SEVERAL locations / stylists and unfortunately, none have been able to meet my needs....I do realize I am picky! The price isn't unreasonable ($40 for a wash / style).
After receiving a living social coupon AND reading reviews on Yelp no less :) I decided to try the Circle Salon. I called and fortunately, Steve had a cancellation so I was able to get in for a same day blow out appointment. The place is easy to find and the atmosphere is inviting. The staff at the front desk is professional, prompt and courteous. After a quick consultation, Steve went to work and I must say, the finishing product was finally what I am looking for.....he knew exactly what brush and products to use to enable me to walk out the door without any disappointment or additional work!
Of course there is a YELP loves us sign on the door so I shouldn't expect anything less!
They passed the test with the blow out style and I will certainly go back and try them when I need a cut / color as well as that will be the true test!

UPDATE: Returned to Steve for cut and color....and I was NOT disappointed at all...I finally found my favorite stylist and salon in Chi town...yaaay! Oh and did I mention Steve is a trainer on color ;)...awesome! -

I went here for the first time last week and was very impressed, great service and the cookies/tea combo is a nice plus, too. The staff is incredibly friendly, and I loved my hair results. I saw Sarah for cut and color, have already rebooked and I don't think I've ever done that!

Not only did I get my hair cut regularly here when I lived in Chicago, but I had my hair done for my wedding here (and all of the bridesmaids hair) and they know how to do it right! Terra in particular. Let me say that I wanted my hair down for my wedding, in curls, in the summer...and Terra made it last for over twelve hours!!! We had pictures before the wedding, so my hair was done by 11:30 am, then we had pictures (inside and out), then the ceremony, reception...and dancing until 1 am. And believe me, I was dancing. And my hair STILL looked good at the end of the night. I was even able to salvage it for the next morning's brunch.
Besides knowing how to make your hairstyle last, they were fun and so gracious the day of, putting out mimosas, snacks and just being all around friendly. A great way to start my wedding day. -

I'm really difficult to please when it comes to my hair, but Circle Salon passes the test. Terra did a great job with my hair - I left feeling great, and I've gotten lots of compliments on my hair since!
The salon itself is nicely decorated and calming. I was especially pleased when they brought out some dainty European cookies with my tea. Yummy! Also, they are as environmentally responsible as they can be, using products that have minimal impact on the environment, which is very important to me.
I've been to a lot of salons in the city, and my experience here was one of the best I've had so far. I will definitely get my hair cut here again. -

This is a great eco-friendly salon! I've seen Sabina twice for a cut and highlights and was impressed. Some of the best features about this place include the shampoo area which is in a separate curtained off area with really cool painted ceilings, which make it extra relaxing. Also, they offer you a plate of cookies as well as tea or wine. They have a great selection of products that have made my hair look and feel much better. Another bonus for animal lovers is that you can bring your pet with you to get your hair done. There was a really cute golden retriever socializing with everyone the last time I was there. Overall, a unique salon with a very environmentally responsible attitude.

This place is awesome! When I got here I had a bad haircut, and no idea how it would be fixed and come out liking it at the same time. Problem solved by Zahadita.
First of all the shampoo was awesome, she gave me the best head scalp massage ever.
Second, Im the kind of person who has no idea what she wants done with her hair but wants something done (Hence, why I had a bad haircut in the first place). Before anything Zahadita sat me down looked at my hair and made recommendations on how it would fix my hair problem, also explaining how it would grow out ( as it would be cut a lil shorter). The end result was a a great cut, that framed my face perfectly, and in an unexpected way fit my personality ( I still have no idea how she accomplished this with only getting to know me for 15 minutes)
She also walked me through steps of styling my hair for future purposes.
I now have healthier hair, And I get compliments everyday on my new style.
The price is moderate and in accordance to the area, but you really do get the 5 star treatment, and worth every penny. -

I love this place! I had just moved to Wicker Park and previously had been going to a low end salon and was in some serious need of major hair repair. After doing some research on Yelp I settled on The Circle Salon and couldn't be happier with my decision. Zahadita is AMAZING! My hair has never looked or felt healthier and I get compliments on the cut and color regularly. She knows exactly what she is talking about and will always talk you through it. The whole staff is incredibly nice and always helpful. I always leave there feeling like a brand new person!!!

I've been going to Steven Fitzpatrick for YEARS, with the exception of the time that I lived out of state. Those years were misery, as I bounced from stylist to stylist, none of them able to hold a candle to Steven. I have pretty thick hair, and I've learned that not many stylists know how to deal with it. Steven always does a great job. I just let him do his thing, and every time I'm happy. I'm often asked on the street who does my hair--he's that good!

The Circle Salon is a very cool Wicker Park salon just opened by the best stylist ever.
Jamie is amazing. I've been going to her since 2002, when she worked in L.A. I will follow this woman anywhere (actually we both happened to move back here, but yay for me that she's a Chicagoan too)! She's amazing at cut (I have curly hair, and she knows what to do with it), color (I'm a redhead, sometimes highlights, sometimes not - another challenge she tackles perfectly every time), make up and styling (the best blow out EVER). I've also had her do an up-do and make up for a black tie event, and never felt prettier. And the hair and face stayed put through hours of eating, dancing and drinking.
Every person I've referred to her is now just as devoted as I am. You'll love her too.
The salon is warm and inviting, with the perfect amount of funkiness and style. Just like Jamie. GO! You won't be disappointed. -

I've been going to Steven since he was at Red 7. I just follow him around the city. I even hunted him down after I moved back from SF after two years. His cuts are great, and his color is awesome! He always manages to give me fun highlights that aren't so bold I get fired from my real job as a doctor.

I have been meaning to review this place since I had my hair cut there last month. However, the thank you note that arrived while I was on vacation motivated me to sit down and do it.
After reading the reviews on YELP, I called the salon and asked for one of the stylists that you all wrote about (can't remember which one). She has moved to another salon so I booked an appointment with the woman who answered the phone, Terra.
A little backstory, I've gone to the same salon for 6 years in the Seattle area, even while I lived in New York. Although I tried a couple of different recommended salons in NY, I had poor experiences at both. Needless to say, I was very apprehensive when I arrived at the Circle Salon, having had a bad cut at another YELP recommended place in Chicago.
So yes, I'm VERY picky, conservative, and have high attention to detail when it comes to my hair. I'm probably a stylists worst nightmare. Fortunately, Terra was very understanding about my trepidation, explained why I didn't like my current cut and, very gently and gradually, gave me the side-swept bangs that I'd been wanting but was too afraid to get.
I loved the cut and will definitely be back. -

Have been going to Steven Fitzpatrick at Circle for a long time and always have my expectations met or exceeded. Just found out that they do waxing. Jamie did my eyebrows, turned me from a uni-brow to a wonder brow! I was surprised at how much less it hurt than from previous spas I had been to. I'll certainly go back.

I came here for the first time on a Groupon, and with the prices they charge, I expected the haircut to be top-of-the-line. I had a very easy request - I hadn't cut my hair in a while, so I just wanted to get the split ends off and layer the rest. The hair stylist was super nice, and the hair-washing experience was great. However, the haircut didn't turn any heads that evening (my boyfriend didn't notice even after I told him), and the next morning, I realized there were still tons of split ends everywhere. I resorted to trimming them myself. Not a tragedy, but I would expect more from a $70 haircut.

Have been back to see Terra at The Circle Salon a couple times now and the experience has been great every visit. I love how I'm made to feel like I'm the only customer during my appointment - there's no multitasking across other clients, no chit-chatting with staff, no disappearing randomly for breaks (all which happened with my last stylist at another salon). Just a true focus on what I would like done to my hair, and that's a really nice feeling to leave with when my wallet is a little emptier. :) And the salon manages to have this professional, spa-like, down-homey, cool vibe to it, which keeps me coming back.
