Just as a disclaimer, we booked through the Century Plaza for an event we were having so this is purely a review of Catering Services.

We had decided to host an event and needed a venue outside of the hospital where I work. After calling around to a number of hotels downtown, I decided to walk over and check out the Century Plaza. Boy am I ever glad I did.

At first the description of "Burrard Ballroom" was intimidating, it was described as a large room with columns, two things I neither needed or wanted, but after seeing the room I was pleasantly surprised. The room is really big, but it actually worked out well. We had a number of media onsite for the event and they took up a lot of space.

The staff were amazing. Carly, the Catering and Sales Coordinator was fantastic. She made sure we had everything we needed, was really responsive and supportive and made our experience really positive.

We ended up renting the room, chairs, risers etc as well as working with the AV people they use for all of our media equipment.  We were able to go in the day before and make sure that everything was set up as we needed it and they did everything we needed.

Also, and this is the icing on the cake. They were half as expensive as other places around the hospital.

All in all, I strongly recommend using these guys for any event you need a big space for. They were patient, were really helpful when we needed a space in under a week and were generally great to work with, thanks Century Plaza

Got a great deal on Travelzoo to stay at this prime location hotel. In and out of the hotel for a total of $113 CAD. The service was great which in my own personal opinion and experience was hard to find in other places of Vancouver.

The lobby, restaurant, and spa was modern and looked as if you stepped into a  4 or 5 star hotel. Loved the decor and ambiance: color scheme (shades of blue with an aqua feel).

The room itself however could not compare. The room looked a bit rundown with old furniture and even an old box tv. But it did do it's job. It had two double beds, a little kitchen, a couch. It was spacious and for the price, I would probably stay here again unless I can find a better deal.

The Century Plaza Hotel is located in Downtown Vancouver and is an extremely convenient place to stay since you can literally walk to where most of the shopping is on Robson. The hotel itself is pretty nice, but let me just say that the lobby is a heck of a lot nicer than the room. I mean, the rooms are decent, but the lobby makes the hotel look a little more luxury than the rooms do.

The room was very spacious; we had a kitchenette, a sofa and coffee table, and two beds (even though we didn't need two), and of course a bathroom. The parking costs an arm and a leg, but I wasn't sure if I could park on any of the surrounding streets. They even had a comedy club in the basement of the hotel while we were staying there.

This hotel isn't anything fancy, but for a decent and convenient downtown location, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Walking in and around town was great since everything is close-by. Breakfast at the restaurant in the lobby wasn't half-bad either.

I was in Vancouver for business and checked in late evening Friday 4/20 given room#605 (special handicap access room). I briefly inspected the room and noted it was outdated, wall mirror was loose from its frame, shower knob did not work. Since a clean comfortable bed with a decent gym (which the hotel does not have) were my only travel requirements, I was fine with the room. Saturday morning I woke up with red marks on right wrist and didn't think much and dismiss inital suspesion of any bedbug bites and went to work. I spent 2nd night Saturday in room605 and woke up with red bumps 1 on right forehead, 2 on right eyelid, 2 on right chin, several on right neck and right forearm and 10 on right hand and fingers, I went down to front desk to ask for a different room, and she asked if I was allergic to something (food, shampoo or soap), I told her no - because red bumps are all on right side, nothing on left arm. Since I travel for work a lot I knew about bedbug bites (they occur linearly). She handed me 2 laundry bags and I packed ALL but my work and exercise clothes into them and left them in the old room for them to pick up. Since it was a Sunday, I would not get my laundry back until Monday afternoon, so I wore the same clothes for two days. I was then moved to room 906. I was also put in touch with Tim the manager on duty that day, who told me that they will have a bug specialist to come in on Tuesday to validate my claim. He gave me a $20 voucher for breakfast. The next 2 days I waited anxiously, worked and slept itchly. I refrained from scratching the bites but they were itchy and and sore the same time. I checked out on Tuesday 4/24 and was informed the the front desk manager Nicci that the bug man did find 1 bed bug - a big guy. She refunded my "parking fees" ($20+ per day) only for the 4 days and when I asked her about comping for the rooms, she said she would only comp for the 2 first bug nights and not the 3rd and 4th nights and not the parking. Basically, I would get either free parking or free 2 nights (I also had to pay a $50 meal/drink at the hotel restaurant). I did not want to make a scene, so I left the hotel and called Hotwire whom I booked the reservation. After explaining my situation and gving names and details, Hotwire immediately agreed to refund my entire reservation because their promise to their customers to "clean rooms". Koodos Hotwire.
I rarely take the time to write a long review but this time I feel the need to exercise my right to review and help out fellow travelers. I have mixed feelings about this hotel and how they handeled my situation. I tried to only give facts and you be the judge. Their immediate taking care of my laundry and moving me another room - thumbs up. Not comping for my rooms and trying to slice between bug room nights or parking - thumbs down. In my opionion, they did not do enough to compensate my pain and suffrering. I came home Tuesday night still unable to sleep due to the itch. I went to see my doctor today and was prescribed three meds (antihistamine, cortisone, and antibiotics) for itch, swelling, and infection - yes all these from only 2 nights of bugs.

Pros - food and service were fantastic in the lounge. Breakfast waffle was amazing. Maybe I was so upset with the bites, I manged to finished an entire waffle all by myself. Hotel staff is generally friendly and helpful. Hotel location is close to the convention center and Robson St.

Cons - parking expensive like all hotels in downtown.  No fitness center. Might have bedbug encounters.

I've stayed at the Century Plaza for staff Christmas parties two years in a row now.
The banquet halls are quite decent sized for staff functions and the food wasn't half  bad for buffet style.

The lobby/spa area is quite nice, classy looking even. The rooms were a good size, although I wish the bathrooms were slightly larger. The kitchenette was a nice touch as well, but as some other reviewers mentioned - there was a lack of cups, plates and utensils in the room. As well, I called to ask the front desk why there weren't any robes in the room... The response I got was "We don't provide robes in this hotel. Did you want some extra towels?" I was very surprised, I've stayed in Travel Lodges in the middle of no where that provided robes.

Parking was a sketchy self-park garage beside the hotel. While the guard to the garage was quite nice, I didn't really feel safe leaving my vehicle overnight. (And then I read the other reviews of break ins! Eek!)

For a night out downtown and for travelers looking to get a decent room in the heart of downtown, I would recommend the Century Plaza. If you are looking for a romantic weekend out or somewhere with superior service/better amenities over all, consider the Sheridan Wall Centre across the street.

Really good location on Burrard closeby to shopping and food locations. The hotel is a little bit creepy but if you can get over the parking and internet fees, it's worth it in the discount you should get by staying here. If price is of no concern, book the Sheraton across the street for standard hotel accommodations. At Century, you self park for a fee of $25 a night with as many ins and outs as you like. I was worried about the shady characters that hang out outside the St. Paul's but we didn't have any problems. The lot is multiple levels with a limited amount of tight spaces. The main trouble is dealing with the bad parking skills of other guests. That and the elevators or only accessible from the parking lot's 2nd floor, so good luck rolling your luggage down from the nice spot you got on the 6th floor.

The rooms are decent. There's a small office area with a couch nearby and a oddly placed television that swivels away from the direction you need it to be in. But the bed was comfortable and we left the a/c on so that the room would be cool when we got back.

Great view, spacious rooms, really nice. We decided to have a little downtown get together and chill in a hotel room here. Everything worked out quite well. It's basically in the perfect location downtown and all things considered the price wasn't too bad. The cleaning lady harassed us a bit in the morning, we were grumpy and hungover, so that didn't help, it all got sorted out, though. I kept making jokes about flashing the church across the street from our suite. The complementary coffee in the room was flat out disgusting, not good after a long night. I keep going back to the view, though, it was a rather romantic snowy evening, it just looked so beautiful. The sparkling city and the snowflakes like something out of a Christmas movie. I know Century Plaza didn't make it snow, but it made us appreciate it.

Yes I can see where the "parkade" (look ma, I can talk Canadian!) was problematic.  However, parking is at a premium in that neighborhood.  As it was, we got the very last spot on the rooftop of the building, and it was completely undesireable as it was next to the vents or hvac or whatever that monstrous industrial pipe-ish-looking thing was.  Really it was like a bad setting for a horror movie.  2 cars ahead of us rejected it and took almost ten minutes each struggling to get turned around and finding a way to exit.  And it was sleeting!
The location and price and room were a fantastic value!  Hotels in Vancouver are so expensive!   I don't like paying extra for Internet in our room nor for parking, but the price we got online was such a good value it seemed reasonable in the end.
The amenities made us feel like we were in a clean and well cared for place even though they were definitely older.  I loved how spacious the room was.  And the beds were adequately comfortable.
We did NOT use the spa services.
Many people were using the banquets and the comedy club and it looked like they were having a fabulous time.

The staff?  Well it was quite uneven.  Some of the service was just terrible while other was terrific.  Perhaps there's been a recent change in management and they haven't worked up the morale yet?  Or perhaps it was because we came in for a Saturday to Monday stay on the weekend before Christmas and everyone was overworked and cranky by the end of their shifts?  I'd say give them a break.
Being next door to St.Paul's might be annoying other times of year, but in December it means you get a great view of their light display!  It was very Vegas-Baby and I really enjoyed it!

I want to like it here, I really do, but every time I visit, something goes wrong in the way of service.

I should have been forewarned when I tried calling, and was placed on hold for 12 minutes. (I timed it). On a rainy Monday morning? Really?

So it turned out that I visited on what happened to be a pretty quiet weekday for a massage. That part was a good thing. After my massage, I had a shower only to discover that there were no towels. No towels! I managed to find one old striped towel that was reminiscent of a 1980's swimming pool. I had to use this same towel to dry off after the shower, dry my hair and use in the sauna. (Ok, I offer better service for myself at home; this is not saying a whole lot).

I relaxed in the lounge to magazines that I'd already read. Probably because there was nothing in the lounge past January! And I'm paying 145 dollars for my massage here? (including tip).

I will say that the towel girl was nice, but maybe because I told her about the lack of towels, and so was my therapist. But when I told the front desk, the girl just shrugged as if she couldn't hear what I was saying!

I am pretty loyal to a place; I'd like to try it again, but next time, I guess I'll bring my own towels. I'm sorry, but that's not acceptable for a full service spa.

After reading a lot of the reviews from out of town yelpers, most complain about their car getting broken into. Hmmmm... I think it's because this place is one building up from the notorious St. Paul's Hospital, where all of the city's recovering druggies and bums that get beaten up (city's dirty secrets, etc.) are sent. The hotel cannot help that those guys sneak in the parkade after they get out while you leave. I haven't used this parkade, but I've heard similar stories too. If you are renting or driving up, maybe another hotel would be safer. But if you are looking for a realistic price in the downtown core area (without a car perhaps?) this is the place. Yes, the front doors are safe.

Although, if you are here for the spa experience it's not so bad. Absolute Spa is a chain and can also be found at the Fairmont hotel just a couple of blocks from here. If you are planning to save money it's better to visit the spa at the century plaza because the prices here are a bit cheaper than other Absolute spas. The ambiance is dark and drab, and the pool which is connected to the hotel can be found underground with ceilings of metallic decor (which is btw rusting).
Aside from that, the equipment is new and the people that work here are very friendly and they use great top-of-the-line products both international and local. I have been here a couple of times and every time was a great experience at the Absolute Spa. I leave with a smile on my face.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel on our honeymoon this past week. The hotel has a perfect location in downtown Vancouver. Pretty much everything is within walking distance: stores, restaurants, bars, shopping mall, Vancouver Canucks arena, BC Place concert hall, etc. Hotel has a nice cafeteria and restaurant-bar/lounge.

A few downsides though: Parking is $17+tax per night. Free Wi-Fi only in the lobby but not in the rooms. If you want to access the Internet from your room, the options are two: if you have a smart phone, you can use a tethering app (I did that) or pay $9+tax for 24 hours of access.

Other than that, the hotel is pretty good. The staff is very courteous and polite.

We had a very good experience at the Century Plaza Hotel.  It's central location was the perfect launching pad for our weekend, it's kitchenette was perfect for us since we were traveling with a baby, the size of the room was great and gave our little girl a great place to crawl around and the price couldn't be better.

Our room was a little outdated and maybe a little ugly, but we're not picky - it was clean and comfortable and that's all we really needed.  And you can't beat the price.  I've never found a hotel in a major city in that good of a location that was that nice that had that reasonable a price.  Solid.

Two little problems though:  1.  The rooms were unbelievably warm.  Even when we turned off the heat it stayed warm.  We eventually fired up the weird air-conditioning unit but it was so strange and hard to operate, we struggled to keep the room at the right temperature.  2.  The hotel sits next to a hospital with a very busy emergency room and even on the higher floors, you get a lot of street noise.

Also, $15 for parking a day isn't wonderful, but what are you going to do?  I also bought $9 internet access and it worked really well.  No complaints.

We'll definitely stay at The Century Plaza again.

Great location...close to shopping and restaurants on Robson. The hotel and rooms were nice...but we also had our car window smashed while parked in the parking garage. Luckily nothing was stolen, but it was just a real pain in the ass to deal with a broken car window when you are on vacation. The hotel did waive the parking charges, but only after I complained at the front desk. They didn't really apologize for anything when we first called to let them know what happened. So park in the garage at your own risk!

Also, they only offer free wi-fi in the lobby, not in the rooms though.

A lot for a little indeed - I paid just over 50 a night for a king bed suite with kitchenette in a great location.  Though the rooms were clearly older, the lobby is modern and clean.  The staff was helpful and attentive.  Overall, one of the better hotel experiences I've had.

Plus, the showers are fantastic.  As hot as you can stand at tremendous pressure. This may have been the best shower I can remember taking.

A friend of mine and I were just in town for a couple days to bum around Vancouver and lazily take in the sites.  The weather was surprisingly good for March but still a bit chilly so we wanted a place where we could relax between site seeing and laze around in the mornings before heading out.  This place was great!  I found a great deal on one of those hotel discount webpages, but wish I'd booked directly  through Century Plaza.  (Upon arriving, there was something in our room stating that they would beat any online deals you could find.)  With your room, you also get $20 off any service of $100 or more at the on site spa, $10 off your bill (not including alcohol) at the hotel restaurant or coffee shop and you could get additional $5 coupons each day if you didn't use room service.  There is a pool and a "eucalyptus spa" on site, though we didn't get a chance to use them.  The location is perfect both for going out and making your way around town - buses are everywhere and you're only a few blocks from one of the sky train stations.  The room was clean and spacious, there's a full kitchen and amazing views of downtown and the harbor. Overall, a great experience!

Great location, big rooms and a low price.  This is my budget lodging when we stay in Vancouver.  They already start at a pretty great price and with http://hotels.com can go even cheaper.

I love this place for the location.  It's an easy walk to the stadiums and gives you a nice central landing pad for playing in all the sections of downtown.  The hotel needs a little bit of redecorating but it's not terrible.  And the rooms are a decent size.  We've stayed in the nice big kitchenette suites that offer you basically a one bedroom apartment while you stay in Vancouver.  So it's just the best for long term stays.

They have a spa and comedy club in the building which is neat.  And they have great valet.  Our car was always ready for us to go take an adventure.

While it may not be the most comfortable accommodation.  It definitely gives you a lot for a little.

Granted, my stay at this hotel was about 3 years ago, but I remember it like it was yesterday.

Normally this hotel would be a bit out of my price range, but a friend and I got it on a sale from expedia, so I'm sure to on-lookers we looked like the opening from the Beverly Hillbillys. We were awe struck by how nice this place was right from the lobby which gave the impression that we must have saved even more than we did. Everywhere we looked were chandeliers, indoor waterfalls, fancy... EVERYTHING. It was amazing.

First of all, I would have been hard pressed to find a more ideal location. We had about 5 items on our agenda for the trip and all were within 20 minutes walking distance (which, in downtown Vancouver, is half the fun in and of itself). To top it off, within a few blocks in any direction we DISCOVERED even more great experiences, from a great little shop specializing in vintage t-shirts, posters and the like that we hadn't seen in years, to a hotdog stand called JapaDog (which, if you haven't experienced yet, you HAVE TO... it was easily the best meal I had on the entire trip, including some rather highly recommended restaurants, and this is a hot dog from a street vendor!), to the first time in my life I had ever seen a multi-floor movie theater (which, as a theater nut, I HAD to visit just for the story). It was basically smack-dab in the middle of the coolest area I have ever experienced in my life, bar none.

The room we got also blew me away. I'm used to the typical single room type deal with little more than a closet to serve as a bathroom. This place was more like having our own apartment for a week - a seperate bed room, living room with couches, tv and the most incredible view I've ever seen, an actual dedicated kitchen area... it was really as if we were in a condo rather than a hotel room.

We took a trip to the spa for massages and while I can't comment on the price (my friend paid) the experience was incredible as we were given complimentary robes and sandles and taken into a waiting room with free drinks and (healthy) snacks, before being taken in for the best massage I've ever had by two lovely young ladies, then were taken into a sort of afterward relaxation area where we were given a free sort of brunch-ish meal which, while the emphasis was on the healthiness, was quite good.

The service was impecable. In fact, when my friend mentioned to the door man that he was looking for a place in the area with decent food that would be showing the UFC fight that night - he went out of his way to go retrieve a city map, marked out several locations, and included their names, gave recomendations on what was the best to eat in those places, AND tips on how to get there by transit in case we got tired of walking. I've never seen hotel staff, much less one in such a menail position, provide this kind of service!

Then of course came what was, at the time, the crown jewel of the experience for me - the fact that the basement of this hotel had been converted into a comedy club. At the time of our visit it was a Yuk Yuk's, though from what I hear it's recently been changed to an independantly run club, the name of which I can't remember. I can't speak for how the new version is run, but when I was there it was one of the greatest clubs in the country and (with the Yuk Yuk's brand behind it) recieved some of the top acts in the country.

All in all, I can't really comment on prices but the EXPERIENCE of this hotel was second to none I've ever been in. I only dock a star because (unlike a lot of even more cost-effective hotels) they charge for internet access, and while we were there the pool was closed so we never got to experience that.

Needless to say however next time I take a trip to Vancouver, I will be looking into rates at the Century Plaza and if I can swing it, I will be a returning guest.

Just got back, chose this hotel based on Yelp reviews.  Was glad I did!

Got an awesome deal through Hotels(dot)com, then was surprisingly upgraded for free when I arrived at the hotel (thanks night manager!).

Room was outstanding, spectacular views, and huge suite.  We had the King Executive Suite (which is more like a penthouse suite - for 1/2 the price).  Suite had King bed and sofa bed, plus desk, living room, dining room, kitchen, and large bathroom (with fancy Kohler pedestal sink and faucet).

Room service was great and very fairly price - and the food was great! (we ordered breakfast items; omelets, etc).

Wireless internet sucks here (low signal and slow speeds) - however the rooms have an ethernet plug-in, and its high speed.  The front desk will give you a cable to use if you don't bring one.  Cost was 9/day.  Highly recommended to look up restaurants and tourist spots on http://yelp.com (which we did on a daily basis).

Front desk and staff very helpful - had to call them on 3 occasions and someone was at our door within a couple minutes each time (extra blankets, etc).

Location is perfect, downtown and close to everything.

If we can keep getting in this Hotel for under $100, we will keep coming back.

Highly recommended!  You wont find a Hotel downtown, in a better location, in nicer condition, at a better price then this.
5 stars for value, staff, location, and views.
5 stars for size and quality of executive king suite.

Note: Pool is being renovated and will be open 3.29.09.  Suppose to be awesome when it is.

PS - For those visiting Vancouver, if you plan on driving to locations downtown, be prepared to pay parking meters EVERYWHERE.  They will take US coins, however they don't do the exchange rate, so in the end you will be paying more then those with Canadian coinage.  Anywhere you can (restaurants, tourists spots, etc) use your credit card and you'll get the exchange rate (this is what we do).  Just an FYI!

Only thing that needs an update is the TV to flat-screen, View from room is the most incredible I've seen, accommodates 2 guests very well, kitchen with dining table and cookware is a plus! Steam room and swimming pool was nice but would've been nice if it opened later and had a bigger pool.

I love this hotel! Great city view, great lounge, drinks, sauna, and room! The room has a full kitchen, dining table, living room with a table, tv and bathroom. This was the first kitchen that I have ever seen equipped with pots, pans, cups, knives and a kitchen sink. Usually its just a fridge and a microwave. Awesome service, I highly recommend this hotel and would stay here again!

The lobby is deceitful. It's BEAUTIFUL! and then when you get to the rooms they're very underwhelming. TV was old, rooms had stains on floor, fridge was from the 1800's (fridges weren't even invented then ha!), the only plus to it? walking distance to everything.

I spend the weekend here and got a King Executive Room at a good price. The room was well-appointed, including a separate bedroom and a kitchen, and had a great view of the bay and the city. The location allows easy walking to Davie Street and to Robson Street and cabs are readily available for further destinations.

some floors stink, some rooms stink, but they'll switch u to another no problem.

beautiful lobby, with spa and dining, but outdated rooms, halls, and elevator.

cheap rates, like 60 bucks a nite.

friend paid 9 bucks a nite for wireless internet, but had trouble connecting.  wifi was really weak, management told him some higher floors cant get a signal, and switching him to a lower floor didnt help.  blenz coffee, just across the street, has better stronger wifi.

Love to stay at this hotel when in Vancouver. Every Feb. they are the hotel of choice for the Esthetique SPA International spa show visitors. I have never had a complaint about staying here. It's beautiful, the rooms are great, and it's so inexpensive for how how nice it is. The staff is very friendly and helpful as well.

Good location for wandering on foot (or bike) downtown, decent rooms for an okay price. My friends booked it, and it was quite affordable split 3 ways. The room was surprisingly large (looked like it used to be a studio apartment or something), with an awesome view, and old but seemingly clean space. The hotel staff at front desk were very helpful with touristy questions and transit queries. Parking in their lot was technically $15/day, but I'm not sure they ever check the cars there, nor do I know if they'd have charged me if I hadn't brought it up. Did not experience any service issues the single night I stayed there. Even though the place seems a little more worn than a more expensive chain hotel, it served us well, and location (as often is the case) made it really easy to get around on foot and explore downtown. This hotel seems like the sort of place that's trying to experience a rebirth via spa, but is still in the 'trying to' part.

P.S. walk south on Burrard to find bike rental place, on the left side of the street just before the bridge. It'll be fun!

P.P.S. our room had a kitchenette, so in theory we could've provided our own food, had we not wanted to go out (but bring utensils, there weren't any!)

Walkable hotel, doorman that answered all my "where can I find..." questions and quiet rooms.  Thought I'd hear shrieking baby that got off the elevator with us, but the room blocked that noise!  Did kind of forget that rooms with kitchen suites means you sleep with refrigerator noise, but did like the convenience for my own snackies. Breakfast at the Beyond dining area meant meeting the most gracious staff...we went out and bought Illy coffee to continue fond memories of wait staff. Spa was impeccable.

Had a great time here over Valentines Day weekend.  Room was spacious and had a kitchenette.  View from the 29th floor was outstanding.  The price was an absolute steal at about 75 USD/night.
Location, View, Cleanliness, and Convenience all 5 Stars.
Staff : 3 stars.  Several members were rude and unhelpful, as if they would rather be hanging out behind the desk watching youtube than helping customers.
Internet: 0 stars.  OK, 9$/day fine.  No wi-fi?? ugh. fine, I'll use the tether.  Wait, you're tying my to the wall, charging me, AND the internet seems to be at dial-up speeds or worse(seriously, 1/2 the time the pages wouldn't even load).  What a waste.  Go to "The Winking Judge" 2 blocks away, order a 20 Oz proper pint, and use their free Wi-Fi.  What a nuisance.
Overall though, I would definitely come back.  The convenience of a kitchen plus the location and price was just superb.  Get a room as high up as you can, the views of beautiful Vancouver were something I won't soon forget.
The 15 dollar a day CAD$ for parking seems standard for the area.  Very oddly designed parking garage.

Stayed here last year in the summer in a one bedroom that had a separate kitchen and living space area. We booked the room for $135 which was a good deal for the central downtown area, within 3blocks of Robson St. shopping area. The parking garage is not safe, there is not gated entry/exit and i was worried that something would happen to our car, but we were lucky it was ok. I can't remember how much parking was, maybe around $20? The lobby and restaurant in the hotel are very nice and modernly decorated so I thought our room would be just as nice too.  The room  was  very spacious but the furniture and decor were very outdated and not comfortable, not even the bed was sleepable. We stayed for the same price at the Sherton Vancouver Wall Center which is across the street and one block closer to Robson for the same price.  I doubt I'd stay here again unless I found a good deal for it around $80 including tax and parking.
