If I could marry a vegetable it would be Grilled Asparagus. Crispy and fresh, toasty and sweet we would dance into the sunset hand in hand.
No joke, the grilled asparagus blew my mind. So delicious.
A lovely Friday out with friends we shared some appies including the calamari, the mushroom pizza and the grilled asparagus. The calamari was okay, it was a little soft, which I don't really care for. The mushroom pizza is a fave of my friends and lived up to legend, but for me it was the grilled asparagus that sealed it for me.
Fabulous.
Lovely wine, great service, it was just about full when we got there and even though it got really busy once we were there the service was great, food was hot, I'm a fan.
(seriously, a fan of the grilled asparagus)Listed in: Hot Eats

The drink prices are a little high, but the food is quite delish.
I had the calamari as I was enjoying the live music, so good, I should have ordered 3!
Nifty little place, great food. -

I want to like the Cascade Lounge.. I really do. I want it to to be my neighbourhood watering hole where I can go and smile at the familiar, friendly service.. and nibble on some tasty small plates, and try a fun new cocktail every time..
But I cannot do these things for several reasons:
1- Their menu is quite limited & quite overpriced. Nary a 'small nibble' to be found until $12-$13. Bummer.
2- The same can be said for their cocktails. While they have a good selection at about $10 a pop, it's a bit pricy. And what the hell is up with every cocktail having egg-whites in it? Someone explain this phenomenon to me!?
3- I've been 3 times.. each time it was not overly busy. Yet each time I stood around in the front of the restaurant twiddling my thumbs while I waited for SOMEONE to acknowledge & seat me. God, even a head nod, eye contact or a brief "be right there!" would be nice. I don't like wondering if I am invisible.
One star given because it has nice atmosphere & ambiance... and another star given because they have Pimm's by the jug. But that's about all there is to write home about. Sorry Cascade! -

So good! I definitely recommend the pisco sours, but you really can't go wrong with anything on the cocktail menu. The polenta fries are very tasty. Service is awesome and everything comes really quickly.

I love this classy, dimly light bar on Main Street. My neighbourhood, Oakridge, is short on bars, so this has become my go-to spot.
The drink list is extensive and fabulous, serving wine, cocktails, beers, even traditionally served absinthe, and they also do off sales. My boyfriend and I always enjoy this spot, it's busy but also intimate, so you can get to know people at the bar, or have a romantic evening sitting at a table.
I can't speak to the food as I haven't had any there in ages, but as a late night spot it's one of my absolute favourites.
An extra bonus? It's only a hop, skip, and a jump from Guys and Dolls billiards!Listed in: After Hours

Fantastic drink menu. There is a cocktail there for everyone. On any given night I will enjoy their ramos gin fizz, the aviation, a manhattan, the algonquin cocktail, the clover leaf cocktail (fresh mint! so lovely!), and the Pimm's cocktail... and they were nice and accommodating when I wanted my gin martini extra extra dirty with tons of olives.
I've had dinner here before, but the entrees don't really excite me, except for the mussels. Appies are great, though, especially the polenta fries. The calamari is great too. Those two appies and a side of regular fries are the perfect accompaniment to a few nice cocktails with good friends. -

After a chilly summer night (wait, this *is* summer, right?) in the park, a big group of friends and I were seeking some kind - any kind - of warmth. Enter Cascade, home to many candles, cocktails and killer servers.
Attentive without overbearing, sophisticated without being too-cool, unpretentious is the name of the game here. The menu is small yet varied enough to please just about everyone, and the drinks are always tasty and filled to the rim.
Word to the wise on the bathroom situation though: once you head past the back room, it's like entering a labyrinth. Might be a good idea to take some bread crumbs to help you find your way back your table. -

I finally visited Cascade after a history of resistance because there was a Canucks game on and we didn't want to leave the neighbourhood. Oh, brother. This place is great - what an incredible drink list! It's not cheap, but the beer, wine, and cocktail selection is to die for.
Apparently the food is great, too, but I wouldn't know. There's really nothing exciting for a vegan to eat. The veggie burger had the texture of dried-out hummus and very little flavour, especially with the aioli left off. The polenta fries aren't vegan-friendly. Too bad, because I'm looking hard for a neighbourhood pub I can eat AND drink in. It doesn't seem to exist in Vancouver - yet. -

I really love the friendly-modern-Brit-pub vibe at the Cascade room. It also helps that I want to try everything on their menu.
The steamed mussels are great -- but next time I'm requesting a side o crusty bread to sop up the broth. Their included flatbread just doesn't produce the same effect.
Friends and I have tried the fried polenta sticks a few times. One order should not be shared by any fewer than four people. Those sticks are heavy and filling.
The calamari also makes a good appy for no fewer than 3 people. It's crispy and flavourful -- not rubbery or soggy.
Monday quiz nights are fun, but they've got some of the hardest questions in town. Check the schedule and bring a toonie to try it for yourself!Listed in: Great Mussels & Fries

Had a great time at Quiz Night (seriously, lots of fun!) but then things turned a little bad when my veggie burger arrived.
Is it just me, or are burgers supposed to be, you know, at least firm?
It seems there was a colossal typo in the ordering system because I ordered "Veggie Burger." Somehow, the server must have accidentally hit the key for "Lukewarm Tasteless Mush Between Buns."
The polenta fries, on the other hand, were amazing. -

A year after our unsuccessful search for Pimm's, we returned to The Cascade Room to finally have some.
The actual Pimm's was tasty and refreshing. I kind of forget what all the hubbub about drinking it was, but it got us all together to drink it.
We ordered all the usuals including mussels, polenta fries, calimari, and sausage pizza.
I especially enjoyed the polenta fries and thin, basic sausage pizza. It went down nicely considering I was still fairly stuffed from lunch.
I like The Cascade Room. It's a nice socially ambient place for food and drinks.Listed in: Casual Drinks

Delicious salads, seafood and pasta. Actually, the salad was a definitive highlight with the fresh greens, shaved cheese and walnuts.
Such fresh, sophisticated food in a casual, welcoming place.
Sitting by the open windows on a beautiful sunny evening was awesome and no wait!
Polenta fries are unique and I loved the curried mayo. They were large and a bit heavy, but I couldn't stop eating them. I should point out that I don't even like curry!
They have excellent, large and abundant portions of calamari here, too, although I try to avoid it.
The waitress was fantastic, and she even brought me a wine-taster when I couldn't decide. Their wines aren't the best quality but the prices sure are!
Overall, it's a 4.5 star. Even a great place to watch the game during hockey season. -

I went to the Cascade Room last weekend and had a wonderful good time. I can only speak of their drinks, but the food looked and smelled tasty. The drink menu was extensive and reasonably priced. I had my standby drink: mojitos. They were fab, served in a tall glass with a huge mound of ice and fresh mint.
I am always a sucker for any type of candle light at the table. They had oil lamps, which cast a romantic glow on your dining companion(s). -

Friday night drinks for a friend's birthday. Lots of creative drinks, and service was great. Music not too loud, it was just right. Polenta fries not so great though.

Review from Derek W.
How do you know a lounge is serious about classic mixology? Green AND Yellow Chartreuse behind the bar...and a couple bartenders who can argue about the best cocktails to make with each of them.
Don't be thrown off by the confusing decor - the iconic British "Keep Calm and Carry On" piece that dominates the room, and the Queen Victoria lampshades are seemingly there on the whim of the designer, cause they look cool. Fair enough. But there is nothing else particularly British about the place, though the beer menu - which is extensive and relatively affordable, with all taps available in full and half imperial pints - does include some UK brews.
The servers here rule. They are some of the most friendly, unpretentious, and attentive servers I've encountered in a lounge in Vancouver. Once, I was out with a lady for a special occasion, and we were seated at a bistro table, which was fine. But the server caught our vibe and as soon as one of the beautiful, large booths opened up, she offered it to us casually, without any prompting or suggestion from us. That's good service.
The menu is small enough to be trustworthy, with tasty, well-plated mains ranging from $14 to $20. Nothing extremely original, but what they do they do well. Think West Coast with a little French inspiration, standard solid culinary stuff. And if you can't decide, just have the burger - it is fantastic.
The cocktails on menu lean toward the classics but include a few trendy. As I said early, their execution is fantastic. You're in good hands ordering a cocktail here.
The Cascade Room won't blow you away with anything (except perhaps the service), but it won't let you down either. -

I always have a good time at the Cascade Room. I've had good times at the bar, and recently 8 of us went in to celebrate an engagement on a Sunday night and were very well looked after. A few people went for the Sunday roast which they found to be excellent. I had the confit of duck, which was also excellent. They have an excellent selection of beers on tap, some of the best locals available, I was on the Farmhand Ale from Driftwood, which has a magical peppery edge, and they also do the Wee Angry Scottish Ale by Russell which is just outstanding.
I'm already looking forward to my next visit to this classy East Van gem! -

I frequent The Cascade Room for two reasons, and two reasons only: mussels and expertly-made cocktails. Their mussels are always fresh, well-cooked, open, accompanied by a generous side of flatbread, and a bargain at $13 for the amount you get. I'm always stuffed after finishing the pot.
Food, however, is secondary at Cascade. The cocktail menu is featured front and centre, with a selection of traditional, twists-on-traditional, and original cocktail creations. The cocktails are in the $9-$10 range, but use premium ingredients and have garnishes like brandy-soaked berries. I wish Cascade would update or add to their menu though, for three reasons:
1) they are getting very sticky and need to be replaced
2) vodka is my alcohol of choice, and the list is sorely lacking in vodka-based drinks. The bartender on duty has always been willing to create something for me when I've been in the mood for vodka, with usually nothing more to go on than, "mostly vodka, fruity please."
3) I've drank through most of the menu by now.
I don't like loud music or stand-up comedy when I am not expecting either (the latter was a particularly unpleasant surprise), so be forewarned that either of these two things may make the occasional appearance on a weekend night, or maybe other nights. Who knows.
Also the washroom situation is a bit of a maze, especially if you have had a few of said delicious cocktails. You may get lost. One of my friends may still be there trying to figure out which washroom is which.
I have never taken particular note about the service (which means it's probably fine, but not outstanding), other than the servers seem to know when to pass by at exactly the right time (when my drink is 3/4 empty) to take another round of orders.
Come for drinks. Come for a light meal. Don't come if you're in a rush or hate bar stools. Don't come on a comedy or music night if you actually want to hear what your dining companion is saying (although maybe you don't). -
Review from Kimli W.
The Cascade Room is really lucky that I was so weak from hunger, or I'd have gone Hulk Smash all over the place.
I ordered a burger - nothing fancy; I didn't even request my usual "no cheese" which is not only rare it's COMPLETELY UNHEARD OF. I have no idea why I went with the cheese for the first time ever, but my unknown ESP must have been making itself known because I somehow, spookily knew that deviating from the norm in any way would cause the universe to collapse onto itself. So, I went with the cheese.
My food took over an hour to arrive. When we asked why, we were told it was because my friends had ordered an appetizer of mussels, and I was seen eating one so clearly I didn't want the meal I had ordered. Our server copped a total attitude, never bothered to apologize for the mix up until it was time to tip her, and didn't actually apologize to ME - she gave a half-assed "sorry" to my friends, then tried to argue when she was told that my eating one mussel was no excuse for my burger to take an hour to arrive. Seriously, what? Would it have killed you to apologize to me personally, since I'm the one who was wasting away and fainting with hunger?
I'd really like to be able to rate the Cascade Room higher, but our server was so unpleasant that my experience tonight was probably one of the worst I've had in Vancouver.
The food was good and my companions enjoyed their drinks and it seems that my experience was not the norm - but I'm not all that inclined to risk another bad night out for the sake of a second chance when I can get a burger without the attitude anywhere else. -

I hate it when a place is otherwise fabulous but it's completely overshadowed by a complete B&#$% of a server. Wait, did I say that out loud?
I wish I could split out my rating, because I'd give Cascade 4 stars but the server one or two.
On the space/food/drinks: Great. Large enough tables for groups, cocktails packed full of liquor (2-3 oz according to the menu), delicious drinks and food alike.
The server, however? Missed her day in charm school, apparently. In the restaurant business things happen - and you know? We mere mortals get that. Things get missed, forgotten, need to be remade, and sometimes people simply screw up. What matters when it comes to customer experience is how the problem is handled... and in this case, it simply wasn't.
Taking over an hour to bring out a burger? Major error. Not bothering to apologize when it happens? Not cool. Finally coming up with a feeble attempt at "I'm Sorry" when you're handing the debit machine to someone else at the table, you know, when they're going to decide how much to tip you? That's class. And finally - arguing about it when asked what happened, rather than admitting you screwed up or even remotely trying to resolve the problem, albeit too late? Clearly above you.
So - Cascade gets 3 stars for me. Clearly this experience is not the norm by other reviews and that's a good thing, but if you land in Nicole D's section (according to our bill), I'd ask for another table. -

This is my spot.....................
I have long searched for a place to consider home.
The atmosphere is loud, drinks menu is HUGE and the food is great.
Mushroom Pizza is pretty killer, I usually have the Pemberton burger when I go.
Now my favorite part, the drink menu, the bartenders here are serious about what they put together for you.
I have almost had every drink on this menu, however my favorites are:
Sazerac: Bourbon, Peychauds Bitters, sugar stirred over ice and served in an absinthe chilled glass with a lemon twist.
Brandy Crusta: Brandy shaken with maraschino, orange curacao, hand pressed lemon juice, orange bitters on the rocks with a whole spiralled lemon zest.
Pimms.....nothing like a good Pimms Cup
Service is always great, however if you are going on the weekend expect to line up.
Also at this time they have a promotion for Rugby World Cup: Feature shots for 11 of the 20 countries. 4 shots for $10!!!!!!!!!!!! -

My friend Tyna calls this place the palace, for no particular reason aside from the fact that she couldn't remember the name once, but regardless, it's our standby for drinks with the girls.
Pretty much all the food we've tried there has been excellent, but we always get the polenta fries (start with one order, it's pretty substantial). They've got a large menu of classic cocktails that's really fun to work through, too. -

Nothing on TV on a Monday night? Go to Cascades for Monday night trivia! It's better than Jeopardy! The questions are actually pretty hard, unless you are a trivial pursuit champion, which I am obviously not. The questions were hard for me because most of them consisted of geography and history. There were ten questions in music where you had to name the song and artist, which I did excel in, as well as questions regarding the World Cup, but I am not a ringer when its comes to Social Studies.
Not only do they have small prizes for the winning teams, but they also donate the money raised to a charity of your choice at the end of the game. Here is the run down: you show up with your team (I believe you can have a team of up to 4) it is $2 for each team member to play (all of which goes to a charity that is picked raffle style at the end of the game, last night's charity was Covenant House.) There are three rounds of questions and after each round your paper goes to the next table for marking, all high school styles. We got so sucked into the trivia, since we had six non-rowdy hecklers in two groups of 3, that we actually ended up getting a parking ticket outside since we forgot about our car.... D'oh! Damn the City of Vancouver for extending parking meters until 10pm!
Our waitress was not only prompt, but also hilarious, so going back just to be served by her would be awesome. The mushroom pizza and polenta fries were great, even if they were a little bit greasy - but we had enough people that sharing was never an issue, so when my stomach cried out that it was full of deep fried goodness I could pass the plate on. Also, the cheese plate that our competition ordered was keeping my eyeballs off their scorecard and onto their dinner, plus $8 for a double rum and diet coke, I am sold! See you next time at Trivia night, if you are good at history don't forget to sit close to see and shout out the answers! Congrats to the team "Regina makes me giggle" for winning last night's best Canadian team name.Listed in: Best Pubs/Clubs

Recently met up with some friends at Cascade for a few drinks and snacks. We ordered the polenta fries, which let me say, were AWESOME. Yes, they were a teensy bit on the greasy side, but their crispy deliciousness definitely made up for that and if you're sharing it's not such a big deal. Not sure how I felt about the curry mayo that accompanies them (maybe a little too heavy on the curry?), but we got a side of ketchup too and that worked well.
On the drink side of things, we started off with a few Old Fashioneds, which were a liiiiiiiittle on the sweet side, but otherwise good. They have a good selection of cocktails and other drinks, and I appreciate the fact that their beers are available in half pints for friends who drink less or who might be driving later.
One member of our party had the "Sunday Roast", which turned out to be a little on the tough side, but when he mentioned this to our server, she was really apologetic and comped his meal, which we were not expecting at all.
All in all, a good experience and I'll definitely be back. -

I've passed by The Cascade Room quite a bit and have never been able to see inside because of the dimly lit interior. My friend celebrated her birthday there last night and I finally got a chance to check out the place for dinner.
The Cascade Room isn't very big but it has a great lounge-y atmosphere, a full bar, and some wicked interior decor. 1/2 of the menu is their beer and wine list, and my boyfriend got to sample quite a few of their IPAs. There were also 2 other birthdays going on that Saturday night, so apparently it's a favourite for Main Street hipsters.
They had a World Cup special going on with different cocktail shots each representing participating countries, that came with a factoid card, so that was a good addition to the birthday celebration. I was debating between the Mushroom pizza ($14) and Vegetable Curry and went for the pizza upon my friend's recommendation. Didn't disappoint - the pesto and edam/goat's cheese combo was so good, and some spinach never hurts either.
My boyfriend enjoyed the Pemberton Meadows Natural Beef Burger ($14) patty but said it could use more sauce. The big hit was the polenta fries & curried mayo dip ($6) though, which are so thick and crispy yet mashed on the inside. We spent a few minutes discussing how they would be able to make that combo.
The waitress serving our table had an awesome memory and gave us some great drink recommendations, even though she accidentally added someone else's drinks to our tab.
Definitely worth a try for a great time with good food, drinks, and friends. -

After a long day of yelping it out, I was ready for some laid back sustenance. And gee whiz, did Cascade Room deliver!
From the first tangy taste of my Ramos Gin Fizz to my inhalation of the polenta fries, I was easily fully recharging and raring to go again! My halibut, the scalloped baked potatoes and tomato jam (tomato sauce describes it better) was delish enough for me to finish my whole plate!
But the real treat of my evening was our server. She had the kindest demeanor of any server that I've had. Now, it takes a lot for me to think a server is good. "Tyler" is what the bill said under name, but she had the timing down for everything; her comments and feedback were effortless and genuine and her wine suggestions were spot on. By the looks of things she was working 1/2 of the restaurant, which was packed, yet she didn't miss a beat!
Thanks for keeping the music at a lull so that idle chit chat need not be screamed! You guys are swell! -

I really REALLY want to give this place 4 stars.
But.
When service that starts out okay turns to shit that's not okay. I get that mistakes happen. I do. But it doesn't help the situation to not admit that there was a mistake in the first place and then apologize to the WRONG person just as that person is about to key in their payment/tip on your portable debit thinger. Don't apologize to ME about your mistake as I'm about to pay when it was my FRIEND who was affected by it. Acknowledging she exists is even a good start.
Anyways, before the mistake (basically it took an hour for my friend to get her food after she ordered and then attitude was copped when this was pointed out), I was thoroughly enjoying my Cascade experience.
First impression on walking in was that it was hip and cozy and well laid out. We were there for a birthday dinner and so got to head to the back of the room, which is perfectly set up for large groups what with all the big booths and flexible table options, not to mention that it is a bit separated from the rest of the restaurant which can help with keeping the large groups from annoying the other patrons.
The menu had lots of interesting items on it and I really want to try some of their cocktails one day (they all sound super tasty and are reasonably priced considering, as the menu says, there are 2 to 3 ounces of booze in each and they come in nice big glasses). I got the mussels as a starter - delicious, so much so that we were slurping up the red coconut curry sauce like soup once the mussels were finished with. I also had the mushroom pizza which was quite tasty - loved that they put fresh shredded spinach on top, made it taste really fresh.
So yeah. Had it not been for the bad-taste-in-your-mouth server experience, Cascade would have been a 4 for sure. And based on other reviews, the service is generally quite excellent, so maybe you'll have better luck than we did. -

Monday's Trivia Night at Cascade Room is awesome! We thought we weren't going to get in, but the *lovely* staff squeezed us in. And guess what (brag brag brag) our four-person team tied for first place, losing on a tiebreaker question: what was the average age of death in Canada in 1900? (Answer: 47.)

I'm loving the Monday night trivia here. It's just $2 to play. You can be in 1-4 person team (actually you can have a larger team, but there's a penalty for it).
Trivia starts at 7, but the the place fills up fast with trivia regulars. I got there tonight at 6:20 and luckily snagged the last table. So beware and arrive early.
Beers are around $5 a pint. Russel Cream Ale seems to be the Monday special- think it's priced at 4.75.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Cool restaurant on Main. Reminds me of Subeez a little bit, dark atmosphere, prominent music, young crowd. Way better service and food though.
The polenta fries are indeed a good idea. I vote for more interesting uses of polenta in dishes through-out town, it really is under utilized, especially in its deep fried variant. Be careful though, a single bowl is very heavy and filling, you'll need to share it between multiple people.
I've been here a couple times and have had the burger, the hen & risotto and tasted a number of other dishes of my dining partners. The food is altogether quite good and seems to be difficult to make a bad choice. The burger was a little bit odd since it was more like a flattened meatball inside a portuguese bun. However it was tasty with a nice, sharp cheese. Fries were excellent too, they'd make for a good fish and chips if they had it on the menu.
Of note for desert the sticky toffee pudding is excellent. Highly suggested. It's pretty similar and almost as good as the gingerbread pudding from the Hamilton Street Grill (high praise indeed).
Wish this was my local, as it is I've gotta drive to get here. Ah well. -

With a cocktail list that reads like an encyclopedia of modern day drinking you'll be hard pressed to find just one beverage that takes your fancy. Choose from champagne, vintage, fall, true American, and old school concoctions. My friend managed to decide upon their signature cocktail, aptly named "The Cascade Room Cocktail" and raved about it. This one comes with apple and lime juices, vanilla bean, bitters, egg white, and bourbon. For me the bourbon was a little heavy-handed but my friend really enjoyed it. I had their "Casual sex in a hot tub in whistler at Christmas" cocktail, a mixture of Canadian rye, tangerine, maple syrup, orange bitters, and candied maple pecans. The name is what grabbed me and I suppose I was in the mood for something a little creamier because the candied maple pecans were the only things I really enjoyed. It was just a little bitter for me.
Onto the food however and I loved their calamari. I have had some bad experiences with calamari in the past but these were salty, juicy, melt-in-your-mouth pieces of crispy goodness. They came with a chipotle dipping sauce and a wedge of lemon. My friend whom had the signature cocktail told me that previously she has enjoyed the Albacore, describing it as "phenomenal". She has also enjoyed the Charcuterie Trio in the past saying it was "traditional and very good".
The atmosphere at Cascade is fashioned from soft mood lighting and sexy music such as Morcheeba, which was low enough so that you could still talk over the top and not resort to screaming at your dinner mates. One side of the room is covered with mirrors, giving the illusion of the restaurant being larger than it already is. The rest of the place either had black or stunning red wallpapered walls, exposed wooden ceiling beams, and the most awesome retro-esque lampshades featuring prints of Queen Victoria.
There are tables, lounges at the back, a bar to sit at, as well as booths. We chose an extremely comfortable booth, a good idea if you're with a few people who you wish to talk to.
All in all I would definitely recommend The Cascade Room. The ambience, staff, service, food, and drinks are top notch. You can't really go wrong. -

When I first arrived the hostess was attentive, friendly and helpful.
We were seated at the bar and were acknowledged quickly by the bartender.
Overall the atmosphere was great. The music was excellent, and not too noisy.
My only issue was timing. The bartender took a long time to ask me what I wanted, was slow to ask me if I wanted another drink, and at the end it took a long time to get his attention to get the bill and even longer for him to take the money and get me change. To his credit, at least he gave me lots of change so at least I could leave a tip. -

I've heard people say that the service here is awful, that the food isn't very good, and that the people are bringing the place down. Maybe it's my advanced age (I'm 41), but I absolutely love everything about The Cascade Room.
If you're a fan of classic cocktails like I am, you've probably searched high and low for someplace in Vancouver that makes them good and strong, the way they're supposed to be. After two failed attempts at lesser establishments the week before my birthday, a friend suggested celebrating my 41st at The Cascade Room, because the drinks would not disappoint.
Boy, was he ever right.
From the first sip of my vodka gimlet - lovingly (and appropriately) served in a chilled martini glass - I knew I'd found a new favourite haunt. Some cocktails were misses (do yourself a favour and do NOT order a Mai Tai here), but by and large every drink I had was tasty. They even had a small but impressive selection of ports on their wine list.
Everything I tasted food wise was delicious. I had the duck, which was served with fresh-made gnocchi. Generally I find duck far too greasy, but this duck was perfectly prepared, with the skin just crispy enough, and the dish, while rich, did not feel greasy. Other friends raved about the halibut and pizzas on the menu.
And the service! The waitress who handled our party of ten did so with a smile, and didn't make a mistake all evening. OK, she forgot to bring the port when I ordered it, but when I reminded her, she gave it to me on the house for my birthday.
You could certainly do worse than the Cascade Room in Vancouver (and trust me, I have). But if you like good cocktails, good filling food, and a dark, emotive atmosphere that doesn't mind if your dinner party gets a little "jovial", then definitely give it a try. I'll be back.Listed in: Top Restaurants

IT's been a while.. but I'm back on the treck to try
Vancouver's 101 Best Eats!!!!!!!
Synopsis:
After the awesome times at Chaise Lounge .. I was still hungry from the alcohol consumption.. and believe me, I ate lots while I was there already. While the gang had gone to Pourhouse (which I wish I was able to accompany all you lovlies), my two sidekicks and I went to Cascade (Cyndi chose to cool down from the alcy, and her car was still on Main so for convenience, it didn't work).
Walking into the Cascade on Tuesday, the crowd was starting to thin out, but still groups and couples filling up 2/3s of the space. We were placed in a booth in the back and yes.. I had to get them:
Subject:
POLENTA FRIES - $6.00... I'm interested in polenta... always knew it had something to do with corn, corn meal to be exact. Not sure if it actually tasted like corn, although I'm not sure it's supposed to...
oh right, and the calamari to share as well too.. Believe me, these were not small share plates, but actually bowls with lots of substenance. The polenta fries were clearly deep fried but HUGE, you might as well call them polenta planks. They had lots of filling, like the way I like my yam fries... and the sauce definitely helped. Man they were delicious.
The calamari was pretty battered up, and it wasn't anything over the top, but they had a good chew to them and I think they are still worth getting if you're in need of an appy and like calamari. I think I liked the dipping sauce of the polenta fries better though.
Good way to end the night.. now if Habit next store still had the chicken wings on the list !
