Whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa, back that noise UP. Would you look at all of this? Just look: bins upon bins of buckets upon buckets of old-school candy reminding me of all of the sugar-coated chemical goodness I wasn't allowed (but snuck anyway) as a child. All just as sacchariferous as my nostalgia-loving brain remembers, all for sale, all in bulk.

As a girl with more craters than the moon in my mouth, I really should know better - but did you see the selection? Toasted marshmallow, root beer, DOCTOR PEPPER that tastes like Dr. Pepper. Sigh. I've just created a Jelly Belly master's collection. And what's that beside the cash register? Are those CHOCOLATE CIGARETTES? Man. Things just got badass.

Wanna feel like a kid in a candy shop, literally? This is your store! The selection makes me feel like Charlie Bucket. It's wondrous!

On my last visit I was looking for licorice whips. We were going to a candy themed party and I was going as a licorice all-sort. Believe it or not, I didn't actually find what I was looking for but I did find the prettiest mini licorice all-sorts in the bins of bulk candy. I scooped those up and glued some to a fascinator. We also found long candy necklaces for the hubby's costume.

If I wasn't watching my figure I could have OD'd on their selection of chocolate bars! We resisted and bought some good old-fashioned sponge toffee as a treat. Because all good boy and girls deserve treats!

The selection here is great, and everything is beautifully laid out, so I can't fault the shop for that. It's bright and colourful and fun. And if you're looking for American goodies, they've got loads of those...but honestly, I suggest you save your dollars and drive down to Target or Fred Meyer on your next day off.  That's what I do. You'll get way more for your money.

Today, I went looking for British treats - but half of the British chocolate bars I picked up to look at were past their 'best-before' or 'expiry' date.  I know that this doesn't necessarily mean something isn't okay to eat (I'm one of few who will drink milk a few days past its 'sell-by' date) however, if I'm going to be spending almost $3 for a chocolate bar that I can get for less than $1 in London, I want to be eating it before the date shown.   Sure, I realize that these goods have to be imported - but these chocolate bars were likely made about a year ago, and having worked in the marine industry I know it doesn't take 12 months for something to arrive by sea!

I don't have much of a sweet tooth - I have more of a "fatty meat tooth", so when my friend pulled me in here the other day I thought I was going to be a smirking bystander.

That was before I saw the selection of coke-flavoured gummies...OMG! I grabbed a bag and joined in the fun - sour sugar dusted, plain, soother-shaped, cream soda...I think I might have squealed a bit. Then of course, I had to get some of those spongy-frog things, and before I knew it I had myself a bag of candy.

My heart quickened as I walked to the cashier, as childhood flashbacks of buying candy by the gram, overdoing it and then not having enough money to pay for it suddenly overwhelmed me and I temporarily forgot that I'm an adult with a good job and a well-padded bank account.

    $3.23 - whew!

Sugar, sugar, sugar - down low and up high (literally, there are candy bar boxes glued to the ceiling!)

If you're looking for old school sweets, or from afar treats, you'll likely find them here... along with many of your dentist's nightmares [insert tooth-missing smiley face]

I try to refrain from walking in, because I know myself. I can't control my candy urges. I'd be filling up bags of jelly bellies, selecting at 2 kinds of Tim Tams, and washing them down with pixie sticks! If only they'd open up for a Candy Open House where you could sample as many candies as you wanted for a small fee... imagine the chaotic giddiness!

What better way to feel like a kid in a candy shop than to go into a candy shop!!  If you are feeling old and need to knock a few years of your tally, this place is for you. Just the smell of sugar when you walk in is enough to raise your glycemic index!

It's got an incredible selection as you would imagine. Easter? Christmas stockings? Kids' birthday party bags? Go no further. And even if there are no kids to buy for, I'm sure you could use a little sugar in your life!

For selection, this sweet shop gets four stars. The Candy Aisle on West 4th Avenue in Kits carries, quite possibly, every kind of candy you could possibly imagine or crave, and specializes in a few tasty treats, as well.

First specialty: Pez. Candy Aisle's got a large, private collection of these colourful candy dispensers, which are often displayed in the front window. Check out the variety that's for sale, as well. You'll likely find a cartoon character or superhero Pez dispenser you haven't seen elsewhere.

Second specialty: Sweets from around the world. That chocolate bar you can only buy in the States? Those candies your grandma used to send you from England every Christmas? Chances are, you'll find these items among Candy Aisle's international collection.

Third specialty: Jelly Belly's. Now these are among my fave treats ever. Miniature jellybeans that come in every possible flavour, both good and bad. From cinnamon to cotton candy to buttered popcorn, and all the way across the spectrum to dirt, boogers, and sardine. Candy Aisle carries a wide selection of these little lovelies, and they come in bulk so you can get as many as you like, and mix and match, too!

Candy is what keeps me sane. I love sugar, and it makes me more crazier than I usually am (uh oh...).

The Candy Aisle helps me feed my addiction in a multitude of ways. From sugary sweets to sour face twisters... you shall be satisfied. I love how all the candies that are in bulk have name tags!!

"Hello! My name is Sour Patch Kids."

I'll let you in on a horrible old tradition. A few years ago, once we'd woken up on a friend's couch after a Saturday of hard drinking we'd do our usual sit around and eat aspirin, then head to 4th for brunch. The day wasn't complete though until we'd all spent about an hour in the candy aisle making ourselves the perfect mixed bag of candy to eat once our stomachs could handle it.

The Candy aisle really shines when it comes to the 'pick n' mix' candy choices. Not that I don't care for their foreign candies or funny packaged stuff, but the selection and price point of the bulk stuff is what really keeps me coming back.

This is also a great place to hit up with British ex-pats as it is one of the few places in the city that has a huge selection of the candy the British are so tragedied they can't get in Canada. Bring them here if you want to make them feel a bit more at home...or I suppose just shut them up...either way.

If you want a quick and easy way to entertain your young relatives from out-of-town, take them to the Candy Aisle. They'll think Vancouver is the coolest place they've ever been! You'll find a tonne of candy from England, Australia, the US, and Canada. Walk down memory lane with your mouth as you encounter candy you haven't been able to find since you were a kid. If the Candy Aisle had candy from Sweden, then I'd be giving this place 5 stars. As it stands, this is mainly someone else's nostalgic childhood, not mine, but I still appreciate the candy candy candy. Good times for all.
