Review from Jorge L.
I am a theatre lover. Been to broadway many times and Canadian Stage is comparable to broadway productions... just less chaotic. Depending on the theatre and production, audience generally have positive vibe. The ticket prices aren't cheap so people who come to see the shows are here for a good time. And we are treated nicely.
Also known as CanStage has offered plays, musicals and plays that appeal to different audiences. I'm not excited with some of them but I get to explore different types of productions. That is what theatre is about - invoking interest to productions we would have not known. Being a subscriber sort of "forces" me to see most of their shows.
CanStage plays a vital role in Toronto's art scene. And they have wonderful staff eager to help subscribers with every questions. Yay! -

Just saw Caroline or Change: http://actingupstage.com/
at this theatre and it was fantastic.
I love this theatre- it has a great Shakespearean setup- it's a lowered stage (my fave format), rather than a raised stage.
I must admit that I have not seen the BEST plays here, and have never even heard of this one before but it was recommended and tickets were less than 30$ (note- i'll pretty much see anything for less than 30$)
WOWEE- I cannot recommend this musical more.
It's got an amazing cast, everything was sung, a fairly serious topic done very tastefully with a range of very entertaining laughing moments and some serious tear-jerkers.
This is a lower budget venue where there tends to be a range of performances some of them good and some of them bad- I suppose go on reputation because this particular musical was top notch.
I would have easily paid twice as much as I did for this show.
A definite must see! -

With its Dream in High Park Theatre (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...), the Canadian Stage Theatre Company is one of the only year-round theatre companies in Canada. With three stages available, they are able to run several shows simultaneously throughout their season. The theatre that they put on can sometimes be challenging and other times not so, but that is the risk of any theatre company.
With its two stages at its Berkeley Street location, the downstairs theatre provides a small intimate setting to see some truly great theatre. It was this theatre that staged "Angels in America" when it came to Canada and was put on by the Canadian Stage. The Berkeley Street location also houses an upstairs black box theatre that allows smaller theatre companies to perform their pieces as part of festivals or independent productions. It's nice to the theatre company can provide both types of theatres to not only performers putting on shows but also the public who wish to see them. Between the independent feel of the upstairs theatre and the intimacy of the downstairs theatre, Canadian Stage provides two truly great venues for the theatre community in Toronto.
