I think I impressed them by ordering two orders of chicken pies!
I can be very stubborn when it comes to certain food. It took me a longtime to accept savory pies (7 years in Canada), and still not a great fan for sweet pies with fresh fruit in it. (To me, fresh fruit is suppose to eat just like that).
Anyways, agree with the previous review, great pie. Great service, but too expensive. I had 2 piece of chicken pie (please don't judge) and a tea, cost me 20 after tip and tax.
I will definitely come back though and maybe break my rules and give the yogurt peach pie a try, since it looks so yummy

I was really excited when I heard a pie shop was coming to the neighborhood. Too bad it was this one. I visited around the dinner hour. You order your pies and they have to be reheated by what must be a single pie-at-a-time oven, because everyone in the place was waiting forever. When it finally arrives, it's cold. Not just for us, but everyone else sent theirs back for reheating.

The decor is abysmal, the signage is confusing, and the pies are lackluster at best. On the plus side, one of the women working there was pleasant. The other one was redundant and didn't do anything.

I wanted to love this place but I got served right for showing up toward the end of the day on a LONG weekend!

As there was not a whole lot to choose from by the time we arrived, we grabbed a slice of bumbleberry pie and a coconut cream tart. I am big on pie crust, so much so that I have an awful tendency to scrape the innards out of pies and just eat the crust if I'm in that kind of mood. But I have to say that theirs is not at all like any crust I've ever had and I don't mean that in a good way. The crust did not go well with the bumbleberry pie AT ALL. It was hard and chewy, lacking flavour and flakiness. I think for this type of pie, something slightly sweeter and flaky would have been the way to go.

I am not a fan of coconut desserts, nor do I go koo-koo for mousse-y variety either. The very thought of coconut cream anything makes me think of those Caribbean-style coconut/jojoba scented body creams and I canNOT stand the smell of those, let alone eat anything that resembles it in any way, but their coconut cream tart was really good! Same crust formula as that of the bumbleberry, but for some reason it worked in this case (thought still a little too chewy/hard)! And I loved that the cream was not coconut-y tasting (is it supposed to??). The only hint of coconut, and it really was just a HINT, was in the toasted coconut shreds on top of the tart. Just the way I like it~

I would probably go back to try their savoury pies but not likely anytime soon.

This place has some very very good pies, but is missing some pieces to be a 4 or 5 star places.

First, they don't have all of the pies listed on their site which was disappointing, but they said given 24 hours notice they can have any of them ready.

Second is the price, you are looking to pay at least $20 for most pies. Although they are "gourmet" I still feel this is a little too expensive.

They also have "dinner" pies, like lamb, or pork, or chicken pot pies.  I had the Lamb and peas pie for lunch and it was pretty darn good. However a slice of that pie and a drink was over $13.

I really really want to like this place.  I stopped in this morning (yes, this morning, probably around 9:30).  It wasn't really busy, there were a few tables seated, 3 people behind the counter (I was the only one picking up 2 pies to go).

On the plus side, they managed to get them both into the same box, but the guy helping seemed really confused.  He walked towards the plates, then stopped and walked back towards the boxes then back towards the plates again.  He did manage to ring up my pies...

But pretty much the service here is 1 star, if that (even to go), and the pies are only ok - averaging them out at 2 stars.

Sorry CPC, I really want to like you.  I really don't think I'll be coming back.

    Chocolate Danish ($1.99)!!

While walking along Queen Street after a drink or 2, I have this urges to have something sweet...and here I found some sweet to go!!

3 of us just divided and conquered and ate my Danish in less than 1 minute while looking for another pub pit shop!

Maybe when I have a beer or 2 to drink, everything tastes better??!! I sure enjoyed my danish and the nice friendly server behind the counter at The Canadian Pie Company.

I have to come back for a Real pie experience next time I am down at the area!

We came for pie!! Surprisingly, they don't have all the pies mentioned on their site. When we asked, they recommended to call ahead to see what they had. My wife and I had a craving for Banana Cream pie after watching Bobby Flay throw down mere hours ago. But sadly, it wasn't available. So, we "settled" for the Coconut Cream selection. Man, that shit was good!!

Also had their ham/cheese quiche. Not bad. I won't be returning for the food. For the pies? yes! Pumpkin and Banana Cream will be smashed in the near future! RAWWRR!!

Dang, I'm a little surprised to see this place is barely pulling in three stars. I guess that shows you what a foodie I'm NOT.

Came here for impromptu lunch w. a friend. Had a ham/swiss panini. It was your typical sandwich press panini... really, nothing more than ham/swiss toasted on mulitgrain bread and a salad w/ a light vinaigrette. It was as promised - simple, but I was cool with that. We wanted a light-ish lunch so that we could shovel pie in our... pieholes after. The quiches LOOKED delish but unfortunately, I did not try one.

My friend ordered a key lime pie slice after having always wanted to try it. I ordered coconut cream and we split. The coconut cream was more of a large personal tart than a slice, and the slice of key lime was monstrous. As one other reviewer said, the crust was hard(ish) but I thought the pie was delish. The key lime was good, too, but would have preferred a trad. graham cracker or regular crust to the chocolate graham they made it with. Coconut cream was the winner; I'd holla at that one again for sure.

I'm no pie afficionado. My grandma used to make killer ones, but as far as store/restaurant bought goes, I eat them like once a year. I was fine with these pies, but what the heck do I know?

And yes, it was pricey and the service was slow, but... I've sorta come to expect that with "quaint" small places in TO.

Oh, and the mint lemonade was mad refreshing.

Curiosity brought me here while strolling by after brunch at Lady Marm's and I was delighted to see all manner of pies in the showcase.

A nice tight selection of pies of the fruit or meat variety and some quiches & cream pies too. Sizes ranged from Mini pies 4 inches in diameter to the standard 9/10 inches. Was a little dissappointed at the lack of vegan quiche choices as the pie sommelier, as I'll call him, explained that most of the quiches had either cheese or cream in them.  Well temptation got the better of me and I caved and got one 4 inch quiche for me and one for hubby at 6 bucks a piece.

I got to savor my Swiss chard and Pear tart for breakfast the next day and was impressed at the delicate balance of sweetness of the pear and fluffy creaminess of the egg punctuated by the not too buttery flakiness of the crust with a hint of herby chard. Hubby thoroughly enjoyed his sweet potato & Swiss cheese quiche.  He goes on to explain that although it is sacrelage to nuke pastry in the microwave ( which he did) the crust retained its crispness and the egg was perfectly cooked no eggy, runny-ness which is a pet peeve when it comes to quiche.

Looking forward to coming back for more pie, hopefully they'll have more vegan or dairy-less choices next time round.

Anyplace with the word pie in it is going to grab my attention, so, naturally this joint did.  I'll note here that it was a brunch stop - all day on the weekend- not a pie detour.
Cute spot.  I liked the picnic bench upfront by the window, the menu was straight forward, and service, friendly.  Now, as for the food, well..  I ordered the spanish omlette- eggs, chorizo sausage, quinoa, and black beans.  Salad and a some salty tortilla chips accompanied it.  Being completely ravenous, I was excited when the plate hit the table.  That is, until I looked down to see what looked like the dog's vomit piled next to the greens.  Help!  Mmm..  I ate it.  I was hungry.  It was bland.  And mushy.  Not sure what happened to the omlette portion of the dish.  I would go back to test drive the other offerings, but won't be asking for this dirty number again.  2.5 stars.

**This is a breakfast review, not a pie review.**

I wouldn't have guessed it, but this place opens at 8 and serves breakfast.  I met the usual crew here and we tried it out.

I had the basic breakfast (scrambled or poached, home fries, toast and a side salad).  Eggs were fine, the home fries were a little bland, the salad was good and the one(!) piece of toast was well...toast!

My friends' reviews were mixed.  One had an omelet that looked like an omelet, but I witnessed another at an adjacent table that looked more like a scramble.  That may account for the gross description given by another Yelper.

One of us opted for the raspberry pie, and it went down well with the included ice cream.  (Whipped cream was an option.)

The coffee was excellent.  A stand out.  So good in fact, that we were sure it wouldn't be a bottomless cup, but we were wrong.  So, for the price of their medium sized offering (1.97), we got well above average coffee, and all we could drink.

I'd definitely go back for pie and coffee, but maybe not for breakfast.

Came here with some girlfriends for some hot beverages and sweet sweets (oh, and Bonjour Brioche was closed).  In any case, what a find!  Great decor - rustic barnboard, cool tables, lots of seating.
Great food! - buttery croissants (the chocolate and almond ones looked amazing as well), blueberry muffins that were packed with real, fresh, wild blueberries, and decent Portuguese custard tarts (a little more eggy and less sweet than most).

The mini pies looked incredible.  The small (could be eaten by 1 hungry person or shared by two) was $7.  You could also purchase larger family-sized pies to take home.  They had pumpkin, cherry, and coconut cream  on offer the Saturday afternoon I was here.  They also had a few specials, for example a FREE custard tart with any coffee to go, and 3.50 for any coffee and pastry.  Not too shabby!

Altogether a really neat place that definitely deserves a return visit!

This is like a 2.8 review.

There is meat, cream, fruit and other pies. They range from 4 inches to 11 I believe. Prices are really expensive. For example, fruit pies are either 9 or 11 inches, and are respectively 16 and 25 dollars. Way too expensive, and they don't look that big or that they taste too different from any cheaper pie.

When I walked in there on a weekday, their selection was very limited and they restock only a few times a day.

I had the banana cream pie though. Hard crust, wouldn't recommend eating it in the store but when I heated it up at home, it was a little more souffle-like and absolutely delicious.

There was one staff, but she was very helpful and sweet.

They have other things like paninis and coffee. Don't know how they are, though.

So, after a terrible meal out, we came to the pie company for a delicious dessert and some caffeine.   It was dead in the shop, as they had only recently started with late night hours (til 10pm).

The service was lovely.   they do have table service, but it didn't seem right when we were one of two couples at the restaurant at this point.   Ordered a double Americano.   It was great.   Smooth espresso with a great finish.  Forgot to ask about the source of beans.   D ate a Boston cream pie.  The cream was a cream cheese topping,  not whip cream.   It was incredibly rich - I cheated on the casein train to understand the flavours.

I ate the GF apple crisp.   it was pretty bland, but that is most GF stuff unless one specializes in it.   I am not a huge desset fan, so this isn't a big deal.  I was just super hungry from a failed dinner out with D and wanted something delicious to come my way!

All in all, can't wait to try breakfast here or meet up with some friends for late night pie.   i'm sure they still might prefer mine over TCPC.

    the good
$3.50 for a medium coffee + a pastry (and the coffee is damn good).
The portuguese custard pie is preeetty yummy.
    Best hazelnut/(chocolate?) croissant I've had.

    the bad:
The mushroom + cheese tart is disgusting. It tastes like feet.
Their pie is quite bland. While I can't stand saccharine sweet pie filling, baked fruit filling does need a boost of sugar to bring out the flavour.

Gross. Just gross. You'd be better off spending your money on pie from a local grocer. Actually, even a convenience store would likely carry a better pie.

The prices are reasonable enough, but I wouldn't bother eating here for free. The crust is terrible and the filling un-tasty. While they appear to be a local bakery, they don't bake fresh, nor do they bake on site.

Cute shop. Unfortunate the product is cardboard.

I'll never say no to pie, so I was 100% ready to give this place a try.

Me and the hubby where looking for a dessert to go with our Sunday dinner. We had remembered passing TCPC once before and though this is the perfect oppertunity to give this place a try (that and out favorite pie place, the Pie Shack in the beaches where all out of pies)

I must admit, this place is pretty cute and would be another great addition to the neighbourhood IF the pies where good.

Now, I can only speak for the sour cherry pie, but this was just terrible!
I avoided going to wanda's pie in the sky beacause I feel there pie crust is too thick and hard. After this pie, I'd eat wanda's pie anyday before I eat this again.

The pie curst was doughy, like bread. And there was hardly any filling. And the little filling that was inside didn't even tast good.

I love supporting local businesses and I wish I could say this is one I could support, but until they make better pies, I'll be getting my fix elsewhere.

I've been commissioned by my coworkers to write a review on their behalf (still trying to convince my foodie coworker to start writing reviews on here!)
On a rainy day, pie seems like such a great comfort food! We went there with high expectations. Maybe that was our problem. We also had our hearts set on certain types of pies after studying their menu on their website (we take our lunches seriously).
When we got there, we found out there's table service (though you can go up and pay at the counter). First disappointment was that they didn't have the chicken pot pie that my coworker was eagerly awaiting nor did they have the cheese and mushroom pie that a few of us had anticipated.
The girl behind the counter didn't seem to know much about the pies and their sizes. Actually the other two staff members there didn't seem to know much about the pies either. We watched as they huddled around a pie trying to figure out what kind it was. There might've been a bit of probing involved.
While we waited for our "second choices", they came to the table and told us that the chicken pot pie was available after all. This is the roller coaster ride of emotions my coworker had. Excitement and joy about going to the Canadian Pie Company; disappointment that they didn't have chicken pot pie; elation when they had chicken pot pie; crushing blow when he cut into his pie to discover it was steak. They brought him another pie on the house.
Mine was an asparagus and cheese and came with soup (you can opt for salad for the same price - $6.95). The soup was a swiss chard. A bit on the oily side and they could've turned down the temperature on the stove as the swiss chard was getting a little mushy. The asparagus and cheese pie was good though I'm sure the mushroom & cheese would've been superior. It had a strong nutmeg taste to it and was a little overcooked on top though I did enjoy the flaky exterior. It reminded me a bit of cornish pasties in England.
Our coworker ordered a coconut cream pie to go. That brought further disappointment. It wasn't fluffy and creamy. It was more like a custard tart and had a bit of a rubbery texture and bland flavour.
I must also add that my skinny coworker was still hungry after her 4" pie and salad. I had studied the pictures on the website and had made sure I ate a large salad before going.
The service was very friendly so I don't fault them there even if they weren't too knowledgeable about the pies. If we ever come here again, we'll be sure to call ahead to see what pies they have in stock next time. With time, I think this place will improve so I don't want to be too hasty in writing them off completely!

I had their apple pie and it was great so went back to venture out to more pastries. Found the rest of their stuff a bit tasteless and boring, although fresh. Staff is nice but it's pretty expensivo. Overall, its good to get a really good pie, probably once a year.

They have a sign outside saying they are now serving brunch.
I thought the outside looked so nice: the name even makes me feel all good inside... So my DH and I walked further than usual to get to our Weekend Brunch to visit the Canadian Pie Company.
    Unfortunately:
The water tasted like dogs had been bathed in it.
The toast was not toasted and very soggy.
I ordered the Rowe Farms Bacon well done: it ended up coming after the bill was paid.
The homefried potatoes had way more CURRY and possibly chili powder? in them than I would ever expect in homefries.
The servers were clearly learning/new and sorting things out as they went.
Both DH and I felt nauseous after eating there for the rest of the day: I attribute this to the food and the dog water, but the uneasy queasy-ness was amplified by the 'conditional' pass we noticed on the way out.

i stumbled upon this place when i was in toronto for the juno awards in feb 2011.  i have to agree with some reviews here that the prices are steep (which is why i'm only giving 3 stars).  but, after trying the sirloin steak pie, i've decided that i'm making this place a regular stop when i come to toronto.  i'll leave some extra room (and bring extra $$$) so i can try some of the other pies too.  i like the idea of the atlantic salmon and broccoli pie!

I should have read the previous reviews before going...at best, it seems this place is INCONSISTENT...some seem to say the pies taste bland, while others say the opposite.
I was excited when I first drove by this place, and hugely disappointed when I finally tried their pies.  As DH and I like to support local and/or Canadian business as much as possible, we were eager to purchase, so we walked in and got 4 of the little pies at $6 each (!!), two were meat/chicken and two were veg...we then hurried home in excitement and heated them up, eagerly awaiting the pastry deliciousness that was promised.  Instead, what we got was so oversalted that we struggled to eat even half the pie...that was the first two, so we moved onto the other two - samething...and the crust!  Ahh!  If you are going to call yourself 'Great Canadian' and your main product is PIE, you need to at least use an all-butter homemade crust - our pie's crusts were undoubtedly store-bought puff pastry - not the same thing!
I just came back from Port Perry where I purchased 6 Natural Steak pies from an organic farm - the filling perfectly seasoned, the meat (chunks of steak, not ground chuck) is free range and the pastry is homemade by the family that owns the farm for $22 for all 6!
