Review from Paula K.
Located near the upper crust High Street area, The Cake House is a place for artistically designed cakes for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, and showers. As well, there are cupcakes and pastries ready for immediate purchase. I stopped in there to check out the cupcakes and noticed the delicious smell as soon as I walked through the door. Around a dozen different varieties of cupcakes were available, as well as a few pastries that looked very flaky.
At only $1.50 each, The Cake House's cupcakes cost less than other cupcake houses, but the size was also slightly smaller (while still being a decent size). My double chocolate was coated in tasty ganache as well as a layer of mousse. The cake was light and fluffy, not spongy in the least. However, the carrot cake cupcake was the afternoon's winner. The cake was spiced to perfection and the icing was not overly heavy but just had enough of a cream cheese flavour.
The Oreo and French vanilla cupcakes were enjoyed by my companion, and he commented that the price was right and the quality nearing that of other cupcake places we have been to - but not quite. As far as I was concerned, it was definitely great taste and value - I did not feel like I ate something overly rich, but my sweet tooth was satisfied.
The Cake House is not a cafe, so you'll have to take your goodies to go, and the cupcakes are put in a normal bakery box rather than a plastic cupcake container, so be careful of the icing. The Cake House is also 100% nut free.
