British groceries. You might think you have not one iota of UK nostalgia in your body - until you go here. Suddenly you will be raving and gushing and over the moon to have found a special treat.
Flea market stylings of the display cases around the room just add to the experience.
Football (soccer) paraphernalia for the masses. -

Wooooo! A place to buy aniseed balls! And I must be the only person that buys them, because they know me when I get there. Honestly, their stuff is pretty pricey, I can find a lot of that stuff for a fraction of the cost at the local Indian store or sometimes even in Safeway (ie. Vegemite), but it's nice that it's there and their pies are alright. Not the real tomato sauce, but it'll do.
20% sale recently w/ cheese made the trip definitely worth it! Finally, some decent cheese at an affordable cost, and it wasn't even expired!
My only gripe is that I'm a pretty regular customer, about 1kg of the aniseed balls every other month...you'd think they would toss in some samples or something. I've been doing this particular order from other "British Shops" and that's what they usually do :( However, I believe they have just started a frequent shoppers program or something that offers 10% off all the time, so that may be worth it. -

I like this place. Just got back from another trip back to the UK and first stop next day was Sherlock's for some tea and pasties. Buy the rashers MMMM and the baked pies, sausage rolls etc are delicious. I always skip the overpriced crisps, candy etc save for the tetley double strong tea bags. Nice owner and staff, I am a fan

Ah where else near to me will I get my British snack fix mcvities peguins and digestives, Irish tea and jelly babies. Yes, doctor who fans they have jelly babies and jammie dodgers. I honestly don't mind the brick a brack or the knock nacks about the store though I wish there was a greater food selection instead. Or, at least other British imports like books, clothing and tv series. I'm okay with the knick nacks being there just should be less of them.My issue is the import mark up. I realize there is some but I can buy mcvities at London drugs for half the price! However, I need Bewleys Irish tea to survive so until I find some elsewhere I am stuck returning to Sherlocks now and again.

As a long-time British expat, I consider myself a connoisseur of these sorts of places.
The good:
- Normally "British foods" shops are either like wholesale commercial establishments or hoity toity tea/tourist "shoppes." This is neither.
- They stock some hard to find goodies:
- Monster Crunch & Hula Hoops!
- Caramel Bon bons!
- Sherbert Fountains!
- Lots of pickled things!
- Battenburg Cake (this is a serious win)
- Treacle puddings & that sort of thing
- Pot Noodles (really?!)
- Meats, cheeses, and Devonshire Clotted Cream
The bad:
- A lot of what they stock is a more expensive version of the standard fare you can get elsewhere, like lemon curd, mince filling, vegemite, digestives, Lyle's Golden Syrup, etc.
- There are no vegetarian pasties, pies, or anything. Disappointing.
- You can get hot food, but the selection is a bit meh. Skip the tea. It's served in paper cups and is also meh.
The ugly:
- The stuff for sale, like football stuff and the weird display cases of random stuff will probably make you feel like you're in a third world regional airport. This is a problem, since it takes up the whole front half of the shop! -

This shop is probably heaven for expatriates homesick for Old Blighty. The centre of the store is filled with racks of football gear - British team gear, that is - including jerseys and players' cards and whatever else my English nutters might require to be properly accessorized when cheering on their team when their games come on the telly at 4 a.m. Pacific time.
To the right and towards the back is a grocery and deli filled with imported British foods: sweets, chocolates, sodas, and crisps (I almost wrote chips); shortbreads, puddings, and fruitcakes; and the oddly coveted Heinz baked beans, sold in packs of four cans. The only thing I couldn't see on the shelves was the Marmite, but perhaps I missed it. How anyone eats - or craves - that turpentine-flavoured spread, I'll never know.
The deli case revealed such delicacies as fresh pasties and sausage rolls. I didn't stay for a cup of tea, but I'm sure they make a mean one. There are tables near the front of the store for those who wish to eat in, though.
Around the sides of the store are display cases of antiques and collectables - this is the antique mall part of the program. It's an eclectic array of stuff from a variety of dealers which includes tin wind-up toys, sports cards, china, and figurines. -

For the most part this is a great place. They have recently done some renos and it appears they have taken out some of the merchandise that I loved going in there for. It's gone a little downhill. Not sure if they have changed ownership or if it's the addition of the coffeeshop that bothers me.

Being a long time ex-pat, unfortunately places like this make me cringe. When you enter the place your first impression is what a load of schlock. No rhyme or reason to the merchandising and what's with the Golliwog mugs? Weird. Ordered a sausage roll which was disappointing. Took home a couple of pork pies which were also tasteless. I expected better. If you are an ex- pat and looking for quality sausage, gammon bacon, and savoury pies try the British butcher. Jolly foods also has amazing ham, English style bacon and incredible Pork roasts. Try the Swedish cured ham as it is similar to an English cure. Continental sausage on Main street also has amazing ham, smoked and cured styles. Sometimes has gammon bacon too. There is also a deli in Granville island that has a Japanese sounding name but sells quality sausage, pate and a pork pie that is the real deal albeit expensive.
