For a long time now, I've thought the best BBQ in the region had to be Dinosaur BBQ in Rochester, when it's actually much closer, right here in Lewiston, at the Brickyard Pub & BBQ.

What makes it better? Well, for starters, it's entirely unhyped. I hadn't heard of it til I went poking around Yelp looking for somewhere to eat while in Lewiston this week. I didn't have time or budget for Carmelo's, and tried Apple Granny's (with mixed results) last time I was in town, so Brickyard it was. I'm so happy I went! (Plus, parking was a cinch: free, and right out front.)

Secondly, their prices are extremely low for the portion sizes and quality of the food. For about $8, I got a delicious pulled-pork sandwich with two side dishes (we tried the sweet potato fries and Hush Puppies, both pretty good, especially dipped in their Cajun mayo). Y'all, I used to work at Boston Market back in the day, and we were charging the same price for similar food that was less than half as good. Screw chains: go to Brickyard.

Third, they've got a baller beer list! Lots of great craft stuff, and even a tasty-tasty house brew for $4 a pint.

Fourth, their service is perfect for the local-pub environment: low-key, attentive but not hovering, and the waitress was comfortable enough to crack some jokes with us young'uns.

And fifth, they've got delicious house-made sauces that I want to pour on everything. (I'm kind of a glutton for condiments, which IS one of the reasons I like the Dino.)

We did joke that the decor seemed straight out of "local pub set design 101", with a jumble of random wooden signs that didn't seem to go together on the walls, and unlike Dino, there's no river rushing underneath the restaurant. But you know that didn't really matter. This place is all about the food, the beer, and the people. And the fact that it's half an hour closer to B-lo than its main competition.

Sorry, Dinosaur, but you may have seen my last pulled-pork pilgrimage. I'm going local(ish) next time I need a fix. Hit up the Brickyard!

I was really looking forward to good old fashioned Southern BBQ and grill food. This place had rave reviews so we thought it was worth driving across from the Canadian side and paying the toll fee and waiting in line to cross back over. How wrong we were. They were completely out of baby back ribs AND their cornbread. Isn't that akin to McDonald's running out of Big Macs? The worst part is that cornbread comes with almost every dinner entree, but they didn't even replace it with something else.

The highlight of dinner was the delicious Brickyard house chili. For a sweeter type of soup, try the Brunswick stew. Both were satisfying starters. From there, I wasn't impressed by anything else other than the finger-licking good house BBQ sauce. I didn't like the honey BBQ sauce at all. I got a pit platter and created my own combo. The brisket was a bit dry, the St. Louis ribs weren't tender enough, and the honey glazed smoked turkey was just mediocre. I did enjoy the pulled pork, which I drenched in the house sauce. I liked that you get just a drizzle of the house BBQ sauce on your meat and you can add whatever amount suits your tastes with a squeeze bottle. The mac & cheese side that came with my platter was terrible. It was marginally better than the blue box. It was quite a disappointing dinner.

I was in Lewiston a few weeks ago and a friend and I decided to hit The Brickyard up for lunch, For about $12, including tip, I got a great sit down lunch. Very yummy!! I would recommend it to anyone in the area. The food is great and the service was great as well. The only problem is the parking is street and it really isn't handicap accessible. There are a couple of steps to get in and the bathroom (women's) is not at all accessible. This is a big downside for me as I usually am with my mom who is in a wheelchair. I will just have to frequent the establishment when I'm with friends in the area.

This is going to be blasphemous but...Why wait for chicken and ribfest once a year in the Niagara/Halton region when there is a BETTER option to hit up all year round?

Please don't throw your rib bones at me!!!

This place is SERIOUSLY good.  They have their own smoker and it's the best BBQ I've had outside the southern US.

On my trip I ordered The Ultimate...which was $20 for a platter.  Standard price for ribfest...but with way more food!  I honestly couldn't finish my meal.  It came with 1/2 a chicken, 1/2 St Louis ribs, sliced beef brisket and pulled pork.  The worst part about the meal was that...you got 2 sides as well.  How's that a bad thing?  The sides were delicious too!!!  This place isn't good for your belt line or your heart but definitely soothes the soul.

Try it out and definitely split the platter I tried because you might be struggling to finish it.  Honestly BBQ is best eaten on the spot and not reheated.

Check out the menu and give it a go!

It's been a few years since I visited this place (I went during my pre-Yelping days), so forgive me if this review is light on details. What I can say with certainty is that the best BBQ ribs I've ever had - bar none - were at this fine establishment.

I was traveling with family, so we had a fairly large group (about 10 of us), but the restaurant was very accommodating. We each had various plates of BBQ ribs & chicken and sides, and we all left supremely happy.

The only reason we even found out about this place was because an employee from a store in nearby Niagara Falls recommended the restaurant, and judging from the exquisite food coma I was in afterward, I can see why. Highly recommended.

I've been to Brickyard dozens of times now, and never had one bad experience. The food is always top notch and service here is great. They have a huge beer selection to please any drinker.

The house rub wings are to die for - check them out. I also like that with every entree you order, you get a giant chunk of cornbread... And who doesn't love cornbread?!?!

If you're lucky, you'll get a waiter named Judah - he's my favorite! But all of the staff here is great, and will make sure everything is on par. Food prices are reasonable and portions are pretty large.

The decor of the restaurant fits the place perfectly. And the location is just right - almost in the middle of everything happening on Center St. - And if you go during the day you can check out all the other little mom & pop shops around. Brickyard also has a private room for parties, which I have been to several times - Also very good, although a little on the smaller side.

Brickyard may be my favorite place in Lewiston - It's definitely worth coming here!

First time to the Brickyard last night, for a bite to eat before the Wilco concert at Artpark.

This is a great place to pregame for an event.  It's a short walk from Artpark, and located alongside some great shops in Lewiston.

The bar has an amazing beer selection, both on tap and bottle.  I was impressed.

The bbq was decent, not the best in the area though.  I had the beef brisket... it was flavorful, smoky, but a bit dry.  Their original bbq sauce was great, but i didn't care for the honey bbq - too much mustard (not a fan).

The sides were stellar.  Their chili was fantastic - just like mom's.  The sweet potato fries were a bit soggy, but overall quite tasty.  Cornbread was "out of bounds!"

This place can get a little crowded and noisey, but the atmosphere is great, staff is attentive and the patio is large.  Give it a go

Now this is more like it.  The Brickyard is one of my more recent favourite places in around Niagara Region (on either side of the border).

The Brickyard has a Louisiana-style theme to it and does a fairly good job sticking to it, while incorporating the sports bar/pub feel as well.  It has a genuine character to it (as opposed to generic suburbia) which is endearing.

    Drinks:

TONS of beers here, and plenty on tap as well.  More than you can possibly comprehend or have experienced before.  They even bring in limited time specialty beers for a few months.  Basically if you a fan of drinking beer/hard liquor and appreciate a wide selection, then this is the place for you.

    Food:

Humongous portions that you'll never be able to finish, and your choice of 2 sides with their classic half chicken (and one of the side options is a shot of Bourbon!).

They also have some of the best wings I've ever had.  There's a house-styled dry rub which is great, and the usual saucy kinds as well, and of course they're massive.  They use a house sauce (which they also sell in bottles) which is pretty dynamite.  The food tastes like its prepared by someone who knows what they're doing and takes pride in what they do (a rarity in Canadian pubs).  Full marks in my opinion.

Not knowing what was recommended to get here, my friend and I tried to meat sampler, which had ribs, pulled pork, wings, and I can't remember if there was anything else.  Basically it was a giant plate of meat that over filled us but we felt it would be a disservice to ourselves not to finish (possibly not the correct choice, but overeating is really a big part of the North American lifestyle and we were trying to fit in).

    Group Availability:

If you are looking at doing a function for a larger group, then the Brickyard can accommodate you in their rear banquet room with food & open bar (until 11pm or something around there - you pay a flat fee by the hour).

    Entertainment:

Sometimes there's some live music going on there, though the only time I was there it was some guy playing the usual wedding/bar songs (though he did do it fairly well).  There's also a ton of TVs around showing all kinds of sports, and they're all fairly visible throughout.

    Overall:

I love this place - it rocks.

Ok folks, this is good BBQ ! The BBQ sauce is a vinegar based - especially the honey. But the house is a little redder, which I prefer. The pulled pork was good, tender and just enough sauce. I like to add my own. Corn bread omg good! Service friendly no wait on a thursday afternoon. Nice clean place, They have a separate dining area (my husband hates eating in a bar) clean tables and lots of light.

I've also been to the Brickyard dozens of times, and while I have really never shared others' reviewers thoughts about the food being that great, I thought it was OK once in a while. The last time I went there however I had a bad experience, and one that has put me off eating here altogether.
A couple of months ago, the server brought out my salad before the main course, and I was just under a quarter of way through it when I stumbled upon a tomato that was literally rotten. It was partly green-black and had whitish mold spores growing off it. I called over the server to take a look, a young girl in her 20's, who looked at it, said "eww that's gross!" and took it away. Of course I expected her to return with some comment, or to at least offer me a replacement salad, free drink, or something as a way of an apology, but nothing! That was it, she left me with the rest of the salad, which of course I ate no more of, then brought the main courses out. I asked her if the folks in the kitchen who prepare the salads ever look at the food they are serving, she just looked at me and said, "I know right, that was gross" then just walked away smiling as though everything was good. The thing I kept thinking about is that someone in the kitchen put that tomato in the bowl, it didn't get there by itself, how can anyone do that without seeing it? I hardly ate any of the main course, the rotten tomato had put me off, and I wonder about the state of their kitchens and food prep areas, and how long they are storing food for that they then go on to serve to customers? Usually I would have made a bigger deal out of it and asked to see the manager, but I actually just wanted to get out of there ASAP as I just felt sick at that point. I have not been back since and I doubt I will ever go back there to eat again.

I have to give the place a 5 star because I grew up in this town and if it wasn't there when I went home for the holidays I wouldn't know where to find my friends!

The food is good, its kind of hard to find good BBQ in Western NY but this place does a pretty good job.

Great place to go for some nightlife, its not a club but its a lot of fun.  They will have live music at times.
If you have never been and live in that area you need to stop in for a cold beer and some BBQ.
There is out door seating on the deck when the weather is nice.

Heard there was a real deal bbq joint near the falls, so we stopped for lunch on the way from Buffalo airport before heading to our hotel on the Canadian side. (You can cross over the Lewiston-Queenston bridge about a mile away).

Let's just say we came to Niagara for the falls, and stayed for the bbq.
Came back for lunch again on the way back to the airport a couple days later. Memories of my pulled pork sandwich platter will remain with me long after those of the Horseshoe Falls have faded into the mist from whence they came.

The baby back ribs were cooked so that they don't exactly fall off the bone, but don't let that throw you. They're really tasty. Their chili is top-drawer and they have Brunswick Stew as a side dish (which will undoubtedly earn Brickyard the undying respect of any Johnny Reb who deigns enter the premises).  Brickyard even offers a shot of their house bourbon as a side dish option. No kiddin'. Right there next to mac and cheese and sweet potato fries. You gotta love 'em for that alone.

The portions at these prices earn the "BANG FOR THE BUCK" seal of approval.

Great food and a great bar. (They had a beer on tap, Atwater Vanilla Java Porter, that you just gotta try. The brewery is in Detroit, and with the auto manufacturers in tatters, this beer could provide the foundation for a new economic booim in Michigan).

The  ribs and pulled pork at Brickyard are definitely worth the indignity of a cavity search at the border crossing, even without the glove. So stamp my passport and call me Shorty, 'cause i'm headin' to Lewiston.

Yeh, Lewiston!  The downtown area has taken some dramatic steps toward making it's center village a place to go.  The Brickyard has only helped.  It's got a great indoors and outdoors, grub pub menu, parking, wait staff, and food.  There's nothing to complain about here.  I mean, you could with some of the other places like this, but not this one.   Go to Lewiston and eat at The Brickyard.

After trying one other BBQ joint in the area, the Brickyard was slightly more impressive than prior. So far it seems that WNY doesn't quite get BBQ, but for its atmosphere and beer list alone, it is definitely worth a try. We went for dinner during a Sabres home game on a weeknight so the bar was packed, but we easily got a table in the nearly empty dining room. Upon immediate glance, I was already far more impressed with this menu than One Eyed Jacks. A long list of sides had me very excited to order. All three people in my party ordered sandwiches and started with some smoked wings. The wings did not have the same smokey flavor as others that I've had, but they were crispy and the dry rub was delicious. I ordered the brisket sandwich with hush puppies and beans. Both sides were delicious, however the brisket was a slightly tough and dry. My boyfriend ordered the smoked turkey sandwich which was far better. Overall, we had a very enjoyable experience and I'm sure we will give it another shot.

This place rocks socks!  I LOVE their chicken wings.  Make sure to request the BBQ dry rub.  It is AMAZING!  They also have a nice and clean bar with real style.  The bartenders are hysterical and have always been awesome to my kids.  They have an online menu so you don't have to waste time ordering, or for call in take out.  They also have an outdoor patio.  The ambiance is one of my favorite things about this place.  The only complaint  I have is the parking.  But who cares when the food is so darn good!  This is a must try!

It's a shame I only go out to Lewiston every other week when I'm assigned to work at a hospital out there.  A shame because the food at Brickyard is very very very good.  I ended up splurging and spending $16 on a lunch and ordered the Prime Rib sandwich w/ mac & cheese, coleslaw and a hunk of cornbread w/ a great root beer in a glass bottle.  I could've gotten away with getting the sandwich by itself because the leftovers ended up feeding me for dinner too.  My only complaint was that there was a lot of fat on the prime rib but everything was so well prepared it was a very minor issue.  The mac and cheese was solid, the coleslaw perhaps the best slaw I've ever had (their dressing is a little different), and the cornbread was moist and delicious.  Service was great, they had a ton of legit official bar decor, and looks like it'd be a great place to watch a game.  This place is as close to 5 stars as it can get.  I think a return trip for dinner could very well put it over the top for me.
