My experience here was just what I needed - I had just come off of a 6 hour flight from Boston and decided to go check this place out. I knew Eric and I was excited when I found out he was practicing acupuncture at a space just down the street from where I was staying. That being said I found the location to be very convenient. Upon walking into the space I was immediately sent on the first steps of my journey to relaxation: the quiet, welcoming atmosphere greeted me along with the well crafted deco, high ceilings, smiling faces and a cup of herbal tea.

After a bit of settling into the small cozy living-room type space where community acupuncture is done, I was whisked back to one of the private treatment rooms for a session of acupuncture.  The room itself felt was very comfortable - the table was heated perfectly and lighting was just right. The combination of needles, moxa and aromatherapy eased my jet-lag, stress and sore muscles. I walked out feeling like a new woman! I will definitely be back on my next San Francisco trip. Along with the great experience, I give professionalism and cleanliness both at 10 out of 10.

Thank you Eric and thank you Blue Buddha!

Wow, this place exceeded expectations, even after reading the rave reviews on Yelp.

Siri is so sweet!  She welcomed me into the studio in her bare feet which just showed how comfortable and relaxed the place was.  The environment is so warm and comfy and lots of care is taken to make you feel at ease and in the right mood for healing and relaxation.

I scheduled a 30 minute massage and Siri worked on me for almost an hour and didn't charge me any extra - !!  (translate, HUGE TIP for Siri).  I had some really sore muscles and knots and at first her massage touch was too light (I am used to deep tissue) but she asked how it was after a few minutes and when I asked her to apply more pressure, she listened and responded perfectly.

Snacks, tea, and water were provided as well, and I felt welcome to stay and chill out on the couches as long as I liked afterwards.

I would recommend Siri to anyone!!!

The Blue Buddha is the opposite of everything I am.  It is calm, peaceful, decaffeinated environment.  Eric is the nicest person.  First you fill out a questionnaire as you sip some herb non-caffeinated tea.  Then you go to the massage room where you talk about what problems you are having and why you are there.

Now for the massage, it is nice that the massage table is heated.  He also places a warmer on the middle of your back as he works your legs and shoulders.  This makes it even more relaxing.  The room is dim and he plays meditation music.  I listed to my iPod and we talked a bit as he started the massage about music.  He works your muscles with out being overly aggressive.  I've been to places where I feel like I'm getting a beating or they just push down really hard on knots not caring about the amount of pressure that is applied.  Eric will confirm with you through out the process to make sure the pressure is just right.

At the end, he provides cucumber water, herbal tea and a snack before sending you on your way.

When I got home, I fell asleep for 3 hrs, my muscles actually felt really warm.  I'm the person who always complains it's too cold.  Then that night, I went to bed at 1 am and didn't wake up until 1 pm the next day.  First time in a long that I had a good nights rest.

I'll be back at the Blue Buddha for full body work outs.  I'll keep going to Break Point Massage for the upper body touch ups.

The Blue Buddha pitches itself as a healing space and that is, in fact, what it is. I'm used to having my body treated well - with variations in technique and skill - by massage therapists, but The Blue Buddha went further than that. Erik displayed great skill and unique, eclectic technique. He also tended to all of my other bodily senses (aside from touch) at some point during my experience. My body was treated very and thoroughly well. In addition, I felt treated with a level of emotional or spiritual awareness and kindness that I'm not used to. This surprise - this experience provoked revision of what I can expect from somebody delivering a service or from a human being in general - is what proved healing for me, and I feel thankful for it.

I moved to this neighborhood and also started garnishing Yelp/Groupon/Bloomspot massages from all ends of SF. Now, having found Eric and Siri- I do not go all over town, trying to find the perfect massage. I have found it. The Blue Buddha is by far the best place around. Siri and Eric are both kind, professional and highly
skilled in what they do. The positive energy and building of community wellness---can't say enough about this place!!! LOVE!

Sooo I'm really picky about bodywork but somehow I looked at this website and decided to give it a try. I pay attention to every little detail in a place because I run a business myself. I was incredibly relieved! This place is a true gem.

I booked The Ritual with Eric and this service is the real deal. From the moment I walked in every little detail had been taken into account and it showed. Eric was professional and I truly enjoyed everything he had to offer from the space itself, to the conversation, and especially for his passion for what he does. I was so relaxed and out of it after the treatment that I got home and realized I forgot to tip him. :(  Not to worry though, I will be back to try some of his other services!

Just had another fantastic facial with Sheryl Leaf at her new sanctuary, the Blue Buddha. I've had some decent facials in my life, but Sheryl beats them all by far. My sister turned me on to Sheryl over 10 years ago and I've never been disappointed. Sheryl has a holistic approach, setting a completely relaxing ambience, instead of a sterile one I've encountered during my travels, and leaving my face glowing while calming my mind and body. Sheryl is genuine and really cares about her clients and her work. Once you have Sheryl, you'll never stray...or wish you hadn't!  In our family, we have bragging rights whenever we have time booked with Sheryl. She's awesome!

This place is a sanctuary -- it appeals to all your senses from the minute you walk in to the elegant space, to the massage itself, right down to the wonderful oils that Erik uses. He has been one of the first body work professionals to address the left side of my leg, which suffers from severe cramping, and Erik approaches the massage from a holistic perspective. You'll feel as light as a feather and very happy! When you're finished, there is wonderful hot tea, rice crackers and cucumber/mint water waiting for you. You'll feel great and smell great, too!

I'm so sorry I passed out during the 'works' of The Ritual but it felt sooo magical! I walked in, Erik greeted me and sat me in the room while he prepared and I fill out the forms, drink the lemon grass tea and wipe my hands with lemongrass and lime essential oils. I looked around the room with memoirs, Buddhist paintings and relative articles. Then the heavently goodness began. The Ritual gave a great whole body massage with pressure using these herbs covered with linen that was shaped like a mushroom. They're heated and I penetrated/devoured all the shiatsu-like massage. The hair/scalp oil massage followed thereafter. "I've never had someone with so much hair" is what he said. Lol.

After the massage, he gave me this heathy power bar/cube to eat and more tea, samples with directions of the mushrooms (the Thai massage goodness) and a  tea package for one serving. That was like a cherry on top.

You should do this massage, *The Ritual, at the end of the day so you can shower afterward. LOVE!

Erik has make quite an oasis in the lower Nob Hill area. It is beautifully decorated and I was quickly overcome with a sense of tranquility. I am a bit hesitant about going to male message therapist but his gentle and professional demeanor eased my mind immediately. You can expect tea anda  warm hand towel to be offered to you. I could tell how knowledgeable he was when we were discussing what I was hoping to get from my message. I had just run 13 miles right before my appointment and was experiencing lower back and knee pain. By the end of the hour the pain was virtually gone from my back and I was no longer limping, that would not have happened with just any mediocre message therapist. He give me a little sweet treat and more tea at the end. Nice touch. What sealed the deal was that he took the time to print out an article for me in regards to treating running related injuries. Needless to say I will make sure to see him at least once a month. Go see Erik, you won't be sorry.

An amazing experience - from the moment you are greeted at the door by beautiful aromas and the kindness of Erik, to the moment you are offered a snack of dried fruit and tea in the cozy sitting area after a fantastic massage.
I always thought I needed a lot of pressure and an elbow or two to get rid of the tension in my back. Erik taught me otherwise with a graceful, gentle massage that left me feeling totally relaxed and rejuvenated. He has so many techniques and tricks up his sleeve, at times it feel like pure magic!
There is so much thought and care put into every detail of the experience from beginning to end that you leave feeling completely taken care of and refreshed. A true treat!

I've been seeing Siri for several years in SF and am so delighted she has found a home at this lovely studio. A retreat from the bustling city streets, you will immediately feel a sense of calm and positive energy when you walk in the door.

This is not a spa, so for those interested in steam rooms and saunas, you'll want to book at one of the larger, higher-priced spas around town. Blue Buddha is instead a very quaint and reasonably priced studio, with fine touches like warm tea and a heated massage table.

I met Eric today, who was incredibly sweet and welcoming. Have not experienced a treatment from him yet, only Siri, who I highly recommend. She has a nurturing touch but can also dial up the pressure and pace as needed. Very balanced approach that's both relaxing and rejuvenating.

The Blue Buddha recently opened, and am I glad it did, because I can now reunite with Siri, who is one of the best massage therapists I have ever worked with.

The site is really nice: it's small but wonderfully decorated (I was salivating over some of the Asian influenced decor).  The space exudes a calm, healing energy, which you can sense from the minute you walk in the door.

My massage with Siri was excellent.  I have had a LOT of massage in my life, and Siri is one of the very best!  She is very accommodating in her approach and style, based on what's going on with your body.  I ran a half-marathon last year, and I am convinced that regular appointments with Siri were a key reason I ran well and stayed healthy.

A nice touch at the end of the massage is a snack plate prepared for you-- a few almonds, a dried apricot (in a word-- YUM!), and a bite of an energy bar-type-thing (I didn't try that), plus water and freshly made tea.  After my appointment, Siri and I were able to sit in the front area and check in on how the massage was, how my body was feeling.  This is a great benefit, compared to larger spa facilities where the massage therapist leaves the room and you never see her again, you just pay your money to the cashier.  At The Blue Buddha, you can develop as much or as little of a relationship with your therapist as you want.

The little touches don't stop there:  polished rocks in the bathroom sink soften the sound of water in the basin, and there are many books you can reference re: acupuncture, Chinese medicine, the healing arts in general.  All shoes come off when you enter; if you aren't wearing socks, they provide clean socks for you so your feet don't get cold.  There is a nice selection of homemade, aromatherapy soaps available to purchase.

The Blue Buddha is on Sutter, in between Larkin and Polk.  The security gate is locked until 15 minutes prior to your appointment, so only in that time frame can you press the buzzer to be let in.  If you're early, just wait on the street.

Payment is to the practioner, so check the website to see what they are accepting.

Welcome to The Blue Buddha!  As someone who prefers the personal touch over a corporate spa environment, I will be back!

I used to see Siri back when she worked at a different place and was impressed enough to keep in touch to see where she went. I finally got to see her for a massage again at the Blue Buddha, and she reminded me why she's worth the effort--so relaxing, but not once of those too-soft massages. She really gets in there, and is amazing at focusing on where you need it most. She took time to talk about all my health issues and then afterwords made sure to get me a business card for a nutritionist we had talked about. Sooo happy! And she offers 10% off if you get monthly massages.

Eric is amazing.  I've had my fair share of massages and none of them were quite like the massage I got from Eric.  (And not in that way...get your head out of the gutter.)

Eric's philosophy on massage is a complete mind and body experience.  He encourages you to think of what you'd like to accomplish (much like yoga) and really takes the time to understand what his clients are experiencing physically and emotionally.  I walked out relaxed, refreshed and feeling very zen.

I would completely recommend this to anyone who has an appreciation for zen/yoga/holistics and wants to get away from the mass produced Burke Williams of the world.

Had a relaxing and beautiful massage and Reiki session with Erik last night.  First off the place is stunning.  You are able to take a deep breath and relax the minute you walk in.  The attention to fine detail with the furnishings & lighting along with personal touches like the prayer alter, blue Buddha paintings from Thailand, and sea shells from Ko Samui, all provide a very exquisite experience.

Erik warmly greeted me with a glass of water and calming hot tea.  The massage itself was heaven.  I was never wincing in pain but definitely felt like he got to the places that needed special attention.  With Erik's gentle but firm touch and soothing voice and manner, I was able to sink into healing.  The Reiki session at the very end was moving and suprisingly emotional.

Erik is both very capable and knowledgeable but what I most appreciated was his energy and calming but lively spirit.  I was lucky to be the last appointment of the day and was able to chat with him about our travels, Reiki, and more over snacks and more tea.  I got so much more out of this session than a much needed massage.  I will be back, and often!

The moment I stepped into this place, I was transported into another dimension... Away was the busy, dingy, and surreal Sutter (hello, SF!), and there I was, in this sanctuary, surrounded by peace, quiet, and a welcoming vibe.
The place truly is an extension of Erik's kindness, which is palpable and honest.
He took his time to make sure he understood what I was seeking to accomplish from my treatment. The massage itself was awesome, his magic hands and the wholesome organic, all natural products were divine! The entire experience was one of active calmness and bliss.
Afterwards, Erik gave me a delicious cup of tea and some fabulous organic snacks, and recommended some stretches for my tense shoulders and back... He even gave me copies of illustrated instructions of the stretches!
A place like this truly deserves to succeed! I am truly inspired when fellow human journeyers carry their business this way, from the heart.
Thanks Erik! Love and light to The Blue Buddha!

I had two 1.5 hour massages from Erik within one month.  I purchased a bloomspot deal for 3 one-hour massages, and Erik was very cool to let me do it in two 1.5 hour sessions (I emailed him ahead of time to ask before booking my appointment).  let's face it, one hour is never enough for a massage, especially if you're active!

The entire experience was top-notch.  First, the location is a true retreat.  You step inside from an urban setting on Sutter into a sanctuary.  Erik has decorated the place with attention to detail - the furnishings are all chosen with care.  Everything exists for a reason, and has some significance to him from his life and his travels.  It's a very peaceful, beautiful setting.  Erik offered me some tea and water, and we chatted on the sofa in the reception area about my body work needs.

The treatment room is large and comfortable.  The massages were great.  I have some specific areas that need work, and Erik zoned in on them very well.  I could feel the energy in his fingers as he focused on certain places, even when he was simply applying still pressure.

After the massage, Erik provides more tea, a few simple snacks (dried mango, a piece from a nut bar) and you can chill out more in the reception area.  there are few items for sale - skincare items (which I haven't tried) and also things like neck pillows in cute pillowcases (the kind of stuff you can find in small boutiques and on Etsy).  I felt super chilled and relaxed after both of my sessions.

I believe in supporting small businesses - especially those like this that deliver an excellent product.  I'd much rather come to Erik than feel like cattle at other large spas in town (so NOT relaxing).  BTW, pricing is very competitive - a 90-minute massage is normally $125.   I plan to go back, and I recommend it highly.

I am an aesthete junkie, and can say with total honesty that the Blue Buddha is the most gorgeous, peaceful, balanced, artful, tranquil health office I have ever visited. An ugly room will literally give me a headache, or at least a feeling of sensory overload. This was not at all the case at the Blue Buddha -- a truly perfect balance of ephemera, openness, coziness, and light.
Erik worked out some serious kinks in my very neglected body, and was very professional and friendly to boot! He was so down-to-earth, too, which is definitely refreshing from someone who has seen the whole gamut of San Francisco's alternative/holistic health offerings.
Just 4 stars this time, because I haven't sampled the other massage therapist. When I do, I'm sure I'll be able to bump this up to a 5!
Book an appointment online -- super easy to do -- and get ready to r-e-l-a-x.

So ... I just returned from the most amazing facial experience.  From the moment I walked into the Blue Buddha, where Sheryl Leaf greeted me with a glowing countenance (I want THAT face!), into the calm and serenity of the interior rooms, I felt nurtured and pampered.  I'm a loyal customer of Sheryl's, and would follow her anywhere.  Her expert and experienced touch is actually healing, she knows exactly what I (my face) need, the products are wonderful, and I always feel grateful for the experience of being 'cared for' by Sheryl.  Sheryl knows her business inside and out, and I always learn something new.  She's also a profound body worker, and can even give you a personal yoga workout -- a full day of treating yourself to goodness, in one sublime location.  For immediate results (I walk out glowing and oh so relaxed!), a gift for yourself or someone very special, this is an experience not to be missed!  If you try it once, you'll never look back.

I had an amazing hour long massage from Hannah Sowd!  Hannah was pretty much ready for me upon arrival, but I took advantage of the lemon grass tea as the space is great.  She took me back into the room and made sure she had a complete understanding of what areas were bothering me.
I had an area in my neck that was driving me crazy.  I then proceeded to receive an amazing massage for the next hour.  Hannah exerts just the right amount of pressure and seems to have great instincts discovering the tight spots in your back.  Two days later my neck feels great!  I will be back for sure.

Parking was surprisingly easy as well!

I've been getting massages with Hannah for about one year now, and this review is long overdue.

Hannah is AMAZING. I started getting massages from her when I was in school - as a violinist studying at the Conservatory, I was playing violin up to 10 hours a day. This caused major tension/pain issues in my back, neck and shoulders. I was always looking for a massage therapist and had gone to numerous (and expensive!) therapists in San Francisco and LA but I always left dissatisfied. Then, on the recommendation from another colleague, I went to see Hannah. That was it. Search over. The entire first session I had with her was incredible and she was so intuitive to what was going on with my body, found every single knot and beat the hell out of it (in an oh-so-painfully good way), making me feel lighter and looser and floating on air. I am someone that wants serious work done and can't afford to pay for a massage that doesn't give sustainable results. In the past year that I've been going to Hannah, my body has dramatically changed. Even though I am a consistent client, every time I show up she always asks me how I'm feeling and what's going on with my body. And then in every session she completely tunes in, knows where to work things out and is able to make me feel human again. :)

I followed Hannah from her Castro studio to the Blue Buddha, and love the new space she's in. I will follow her wherever she goes. She's the best.

The Blue Buddha is truly a sanctuary in SF.
From the moment I walked in the door, my entire mood changed and I felt so relaxed and at ease. I met with Erik and he is thee absolute best at his trade. I was lucky enough to get a hot oil scalp treatment and Thai herb compresses along with my massage!! I have never felt soo good and want to bring everyone I know to him, so they can understand and feel the same. He used this combo of organic essential oils made just for BB for the scalp treatment at the perfect temperature and I was smelling & feeling amazing for days AND my hair is the healthiest ever. And did I mention how incredible it felt!? His massages are phenomenal because he just seems to know from a few questions what is aching you and works it out. It's always the perfect amount of pressure and I almost always fall asleep because I'm that relaxed (and I'm not a relaxed kind of person!). I am so happy I found the Blue Buddha and only wish I could go every week (which I almost can because the prices are the best in town with superb quality practitioners). Also can't wait to try out the Wed acupuncture too!
I have to thank Erik for not only his work but also the experience he provides at BB. The setting is so tranquil, the yummy herbal tea from a local neighborhood vendor and a tasty treat after the massage. Makes you not want to leave!

Siri is so gifted, a very intuitive massage therapist who is well versed in different types of massage (not to mention that she's a just an all around great gal!). Depending on how you're feeling, she can craft the perfect bodywork session for you as long as you tell her exactly what's up! This space is so serene, with holistic health books, tea, soaps and natural bodycare products. I loved the ambiance. Can't wait to visit her at this beautiful space again.

I can't say enough good things about Siri, whom I have been seeing for more than a year (although not often enough!).  She's gifted and a pleasure to be around.  She is really a healer -- she gives amazing massages and also practical tips on proper stretching and the like, so that you feel better between visits.  Very highly recommended!

I experienced The Ritual treatment by Erik Everts today and absolutely LOVED it. Once I crossed the threshold into the calming oasis that is The Blue Buddha, I instantly felt the city stress and everyday commotion melt away. The interior is cozy, pristine and above all, peaceful. After a few moments, I was ushered into the treatment room where Erik assessed my needs and explained what the treatment would involve. Ninety minutes later I became a new person feeling wholly restored by the expert touch and myriad of techniques blended into one therapy session. The massage can't be labeled as one type or another, since he seamlessly combines many approaches into on treatment based upon individual needs. Truly an amazing experience. I found the hot stone treatment to be particularly blissful.I will most certainly be back and I will also highly recommend to you, gentle Yelp reader, and to all my friends as well. What a wonderful holiday (or anytime) gift this would make! Thank you, Erik. You are spectacular!

I'm not sure whether it was the name - the silky alliteration of "Blue Buddha" or the suggestion of a spiritual experience, but I took a risk and went for "the Ritual" with Erik @ Blue Buddha a few days before Mother's Day.  Erik was all about the nurturing. Using herbs, hot stones, and very skillful technique, I walked out of there a new woman! Highly recommend.

Erik is absolutely wonderful. He has been my massage therapist since I arrived in San Francisco and is what I'd like to call a true healer. He can sense what is going on with you in a second, no matter what you tell him. I always feel like a completely new person each time I come out, physically and energetically. The place in itself is also amazing, so peaceful. The rooms are so quiet and cosy. I love the teas and treats afer the massage, and the fact that you don't feel rushed out, but that he actually takes the time to tell you what he felt and what would be good for you to do, etc....the fact that you can hang out, and slowly come back into the normal world at your own pace...I strongly recommend the Blue Buddha to anyone in search of a true healing experience and amazing massage!!!

Do yourself a favor and start going here.  I was introduced to this place through a Bloomspot deal I bought earlier this year.  Quite honestly i thought this would be a one time occurrence but had such an amazing experience that I will be back often!  Siri is a wonderful person and very talented, it has been three days since my massage and I still feel relaxed.  that never happens, especially with my crazy stressful life style!  Im hooked.

Apparently, I can't say anything that hasn't been said by the other fans of Blue Buddah but have to wholeheartedly agree that this place is a find! I love getting massages but often when you go to a smaller venue, the massage may be skilled but the environment leaves something to be desired. My body brushing/massage with Siri was one of the best massage experiences I have ever had. From getting the free metered parking (Sunday) right in front, to the amazing treatment (never had a body brushing and scrub before a massage, I recommend it!) to the cup of tea and treats afterward. My skin was glowing on the outside from the scrub and the insides were so relaxed from the massage and tea. Also, you can buy their custom tea blend. All in all a five star experience!i

I was almost half an hour late to my appointment this morning, due to unforeseen circumstances, but Siri was very gracious and accommodating.  Though the policy is to normally reduce the treatment length if time is an issue, she luckily didn't have anyone scheduled immediately afterwards, and was kind enough to give me the full hour.  I definitely appreciated her generosity and understanding.
