Review from John C.
The Black Squirrel at Pemberton Meadows golf course is one of the newest entries in the scant field of Pemberton restaurants. It features, unlike any other restaurant in town, tablecloths. That's right, they actually provide linen. You know it's a classy place.
The space provided for the restaurant is open, airy and very pleasant. It has a nice environment with a laid back feel that lends to a good night out. They specialize in meat and even advertise a "Man Night" where meat and its consumption is touted. As it turns out, the owner of the restaurant also owns a local ranch so much of the meat served is actually raised locally. Score one for sustainability and not flying in the meat from Alberta or *shudder* Texas.
I tried their burger and my wife got a nice sirloin steak. The server, a rather friendly fellow named Adam, even brought us a little free sample of tuna from the kitchen that the chef was giving out that night. Everything was extremely tasty and well prepared. My wife's steak came with some nice garlic mashed potatoes and various tasty veggies. My burger (yes, I was going all out) was very tasty. You may notice the word "tasty" being thrown around. That's because it was...tasty.
The restaurant offers a shuttle into town for those who might want to enjoy some wine or spirits with their dinner and not have to worry about driving home under the influence. The staff seems like they know many of the guests who came in for dinner, making it seem homey and welcoming.
Top notch restaurant and very possibly the place to go for your next date night or desire to rend animal flesh with your teeth (and have it properly marinated and cooked). -
Review from Peter S.
I love the story behind this local gem, but I am afraid that my beef tenderloin was not up to par!
I expected a pretty spectacular Pemberton beef dish, but the Gorgonzola killed every Beefy flavour on my plate.
The tenderloin was perfectly cooked, and once the offending cheese was pushed aside, it was quite delicious. I just wonder why the need for the strong cheese? It hides all the natural umph of the local beef.
They only have Whistler beers on tap, but have a fully stocked bar to wet your whistle. I think a visit in the middle of harvest season would bring out the best in the kitchen for sure. And maybe a round of golf first to work up a proper appetite.
Still a great option in Pemberton.
And as John C. mentions... use their free shuttle if you plan on drinking. It's a no brainer!Listed in: Pemberton or Bust
