Review from Chris P.
So yes it's a beer store, but it's a NICE beer store.
From the doors at the entrance to the displays on the floor, everything here has been thought through and executed to precision. The style of the store and the decor fit into the Liberty Village motif perfectly.
Everything they carry is on display. There's no menu on the wall like you find normally at The Beer Store. The coolers around the outside show off the various 6-packs and tallboys, while the central displays house the larger 12's and 24's. It's still quite obvious that the big boys own the store. The central displays are mostly showcasing brews from the likes of Molson, InBev, and Labatt.
There was also a first for me at this store. I was greeted right when I walked in. While I've generally always had good service at most Beer Stores, this is the first time someone gave me service before I was ready to make a purchase. -

FREE BEER AND PIZZA EVERY WEDNESDAY!!!
How's that for eye catching? well that's what the Beer Boutique in Liberty Village offers with their beer tasting Wednesday's. This is not a free for all though, attendees do have to pre-book the Friday in advance(in store only) and space is limited to about 12 peeps, but I ask this... Is there a better way to celebrate a Wednesday hump night then with gratis beer and pizza? I'll have to answer that with a resounding NO.
The night we attended the emphasis was on American beers. We were told later by our fine host Nick (a Bartender by trade) that they didn't expect a large turnout because of the negative association that people tend to have toward American beers as a whole. I can remember funnelling Coors Light as a teen and having to beg, borrow and steal Bud's, and to this day have an aversion to both, but I can't blame our southern neighbours for this entirely, because America does have good beer. And although we don't think of America as a beer nirvana I am more than willing to give American beers a second shot as a adult. On this fine evening as I recall we sampled Miller Chill, which for those not in the "know" is billed as light lime beer and boasts of only being 100 calories, good for helping me keep my girlish figure. we also sampled Mickey's Malt Liquor, and to be honest I can't remember whether it was good or bad, but I do remember that the bottle resembled a grenade which is powerful imagery for a malt liquor.
The actual tasting was hosted by the aforementioned Nick, who was able to handle the round table with aplomb and grace, despite having to deal with a dreadful beer snob whose perpetual negativity was the only black spot on an otherwise pleasant evening. Nick selected two pizza's from Panago to pair with the American beers, and I must say that my personal favourite was the Miller Chill with the roasted vegetable and goat cheese-I have stomach pangs of longing now just writing about it.
The Beer Boutique has faced some criticism, in that many may feel its a glorified Beerstore, or that the LCBO has a better beer selection, and that calling itself a boutique is a tad pretentious, it kind of is. But the only time I've been we were afforded free beer and pizza and I was able to pick up my beloved Kronenberg 1664 Blanc, so all in all not a bad Wednesday evening I must say. -

I admit it: the Beer Store intimidates me. All those employees yelling orders into the back and the clanking, noisy rollers serving up cases and the overwhelming lists of available beer in type too small to read from the floor turn me into the sort of paralyzed shopper who just grabs a 12-pack of Keith's from the cooler and leaves as soon as possible.
The Beer Boutique, though? It's the Beer Store's expansion into LCBO-style retailing, with open coolers of single beers and free-standing displays and almost obsequiously helpful staff. It doesn't have the selection of a conventional beer store, but when the friend I was with asked about a beer they don't stock, the guy behind the counter pointed out similar varieties she could find on the shelf and even wrote down what she was looking for so they could look into stocking it. Amazing. -

We were here a few weeks ago, when they first opened...it was pretty cool. The service is good (probably b/c the workers were new and keen to help). I'm giving this 4 stars b/c it's a nice experience, and there aren't bums hanging around the outside...and b/c I love fruli...so we were able to get a case here!
I'd shop here again if I'm in the area, but the selection isn't what I thought it would be, somehow I thought there'd be way more specialty stuff, rather than just stuff you can find in the beer store on a prettier shelf. But no bums is no bums, so we'll leave it at that... -

I am not sure what was the big hoopla about the Beer Boutique other than being slightly cleaner and a few (I emphasize few ) special brands that can bought as singles here there isn't much of a difference from other Beer Stores.
Location is a bit painful to get to with all the construction going on (hint its opposite the Metro Store so use that a reference point rather than the GPS to get to the exact address).
The sales person was helpful but didn't know what Belgian brews they carry and just pointed me to the import section.
I did pick up an interesting looking Italian strong Beer which I haven't seen elsewhere. They also have the complete line of Unibrue Beers (Maudite, Trois Postiles and My fav La Fin Du Monde) so that's a plus as its getting harder to find those since LCBO doesn't carry them anymore.
That being said they don't accept recycles here (I guess this results in a cleaner smelling place than the other beer stores) I wouldn't go out of my way to come here if the brew I want is carried near me. -

Same as the Beer store except you grab your own case and it is called a Boutique. Absolutely nothing special.

This place is a joke. There is a better beer selection at the worst lcbo in the city. If you really appreciate beer and have tried everythig don't waste your time here. They get a one cause the fridge works and there is beer in it.
