For brunch.  We were seated below in a large room that was eclectic, but somehow not completely welcoming.  The jazz band was okay if not below average, as I completely forgot that they were even there.  The service was attentive, but slightly aloof.  I was okay with it, but one in our party was not.

Now the food.  The menu is minimalistic, but the server will provide you the details and direction.  The beignets were lacking enough powdered sugar and were just average.  They weren't light and fluffy, but cake-like.  Then arrived the brunch superstar...the short rib grilled cheese sandwich.  It was outstanding.  It arrived with a side of vinegary slaw.  It was perfection when inserted between a mound of flavorful meat and fluffy, buttery, but still crisp bread.  I left more than satisfied with my choice.  The others in my somewhat large party all seemed satisfied with their choices as well.

What is the hype?  Aside from the atmosphere downstairs and their nice bartenders and their delicious drinks, I don't see why people would pay to come here.  I've been here twice, once for brunch and once for dinner.  Brunch was outside on a Sunday afternoon and I thought the food wasn't worth the price.  Overpriced in my opinion.  Instead, walk two blocks to Mike and Patty's and order take out instead.  Their food is amazing for brunch!  5 stars.  I love their Fancy Egg sandwich.

For dinner, I was there for a work dinner.  While at the bar, drinks/service was great.  Once we were seated, we had the worse waitress.  We waited 15 minutes before getting water, she couldn't remember our orders, couldn't even customize an order and make it vegetarian despite the fact we couldn't care less that it would be the same price.  She didn't even realize the whole table got the same order and half of us were missing corn..  we had to constantly ask for things and she was giving us attitude.  Food wasn't even good.  Half of us got the steak tacos which was cold and the sides were tasteless aside from the corn.  I basically ate the piece of corn and the steak.. i threw away the rest of the plate and paid over $20 for it.  Waste of money.

Never again will I head back to this place.  Sibling Rivarly is right next door, go there.. or if you can go a little further, Stella's and Union are delicious in the area.

Ok this was a great place. Heard about it years ago  and finally got there this week. Great jazz playing downstairs, super service, great food and fun, friendly and good service. Oh! I mentioned service twice - well it was that good and made the evening for all of us and  we were a party of 10.

So I have heard Sunday brunch is supposed to be great! We are going to take a day trip to check it out!

First time and it won't be the last.  Party of 4 seated  - had a great table (balcony overlooking the stage).  I had the duck - very very good.  My husband had the cod which he loved and the other 2 people with us had the short rib grilled cheese which they said was delicious.  Two of us had cocktails and they were quite good.  Service was attentive and as soon as water glasses were even half empty, they were refilled.
I would not hesitate to recomend the Beehive to anyone.

I came here with some girlfriends to celebrate my best friend's birthday.

I'll go ahead and say that the ambiance is what makes this place awesome. The live jazz music and the awesome, somewhat dark atmosphere is hands down kickass. What brings this down to 3 stars was that the food was not amazing for the price. I was unpleasantly surprised by the blandness of what I ordered.

I split a few appetizers with a girlfriend. The octopus salad did not have enough flavor, and the octopus didn't really have enough presence in the dish. It was definitely more lettuce that needed to the grilled baby octopus. We also split the tuna tartare and yeah, that was pretty good. The whole table split the beehive frites (french fries with sea salt) and the calamari, and they were not disappointing. Again, though, I was expecting an amazing meal from the creativity of the vibe and decor, and the food just didn't deliver.

The Beehive in a way was kind of like an upscale Rainforest Cafe. I would go back for the atmosphere and some live music, but I wouldn't set high expectations for the food (or order food again). One thing this place did amazing well was their drinks. I ordered a Flying Dutchman for the first time (a pretty simple but delicious gin drink) and it was out of this world.

I would label The Beehive a great place to stop for a drink on a weeknight or a low-key weekend night.

I've been to Beehive for dinner service before, and actually liked the restaurant a great deal, especially their fries.  I've also been here for drinks on multiple occasions, but this weekend was not a pleasant experience.

My friends and I arrived at the bar perhaps around 9pm-ish.  The inside was busy, which is expected on a Saturday night, but not super packed.  We asked if we could sit at one of the 3 or 4 empty tables by the upstairs bar but were told that tables were reserved for diners only.  Okay..but then 15 minutes later we saw people sitting at a table who were clearly only there for drinks.

I ask for an iced tea because I didn't feel like drinking.  I've had iced tea at the Beehive before, in the evening even and it was very refreshing.  Apparently I can't get an iced tea at the bar.  My friend gets a drink.  The bartender gives me the tab with the drink and somehow managed to charge me for my friend's drink and someone else's too.  It then takes her 15 minutes to try to remove the charge after I bring it to her attention.  No apology or anything, I'm not even sure if she credited my card or just charged it again.  I'll have to check when my statement comes.

When did this place become so stuck up and snooty?  The service is not friendly or welcoming at all.  I think the nicest employee in the entire place was the doorman.  I'll give Beehive 2 stars because of my fond memories of the place, but I'm not sure if I will be back again.

BEST BLOOD ORANGE MARTINI. EVER. (or at least in my 2 years of being legal)

I normally don't love sweet drinks, but I could never get sick of their blood orange martini. The bartenders are great and can also mix up something based on your tastes, which is always a plus. It can get really crowded around the bar, so on a busy night I recommend getting those martinis in a regular glass if you plan to walk around. Expect to be on your feet all night if you go over the weekend. People can be a bit pushy and tough with a large group.

The food is good, very salty and slightly heavy, but I think that comes with the Mediterranean feel. The live music is a nice touch, and it definitely gets a good busy feel most nights of the week. Slightly funky but fits in well with Boston's South End.

So with it being Boston Restaurant Week, the place that was chosen was The Beehive. I never heard of it, but told the person pick any place.

Reading the menu online and checking out reviews and pictures, going in I wasn't sure if it was my scene.  I am glad I went. The place was amazing.  It has this west coast San Francisco feel, well that's what she tells me and so I will go with it.  I can see it.

I haven't had a three course meal in a while. Let's talk about that.

For our appetizers we ordered the Calamari and the Spinach Artichoke & Ricotta Salata Flat Bread Pizza.    The Calamari was perfect. It was perfectly crisp and didn't fall apart and wasn't too spicy w the peppers.  The pizza was just as good. It was the perfect size and we very much enjoyed it. The toppings and texture were well done. By the time we finished the app's we were almost full!

For our second course she ordered Grilled Skirt Steak w mash potatoes I believe. I ordered the Chicken Paillard.  I wasn't too sure what to expect from my dish but when it came I was very impressed and happy with it. It was perfectly cooked, the toppings and side were delicious as well. The cheese was melted on top of the chicken and the rosemary was the right touch.  The steak my friend got looked great. I could tell it was very prime meat and good quality.  We were very happy with our meals.  I was just able to finish it and then it was time for our third course.

I got the Cheesecake which was one of the best slices I have ever had. The style and toppings on it were unreal. She got some type of chocolate cake that looked so good I was hoping she would go to the bathroom so I could finish it off.

So after visiting it for Restaurant Week I am a fan, and would love to go back again. The set up and ambiance were nice and the service was great.

    BEWARE! RUSHED SERVICE! ..

If you're into Live Jazz or Live Music, it's definitely one of the great spots to go to in Boston. (Live Music Starts at 8pm, reservation highly recommend if you want to be seated in the front of stage.)

Food, I def. recommend trying.. And they are delish! Must Try!
    1. Shortrib, Farmhouse Cheddar & Fontina Grilled Cheese $13 or $15 ?
    2. Truffled Potato & Cheese Pierogies, Carmelized Onions, Sour Cream $10

Drinks, I had tried 2 different beers as well. They are also a Must Try! Not to mention, cute names.. :o)
    1. Beehive Honey Brew $5.00, 12 oz. / $7.75, 20oz.
    2. Pretty Things 'BABY TREE' $7.00, 12 oz. / $9.75, 20 oz.

I've been there twice! First time was great! No pressure. Second time..

.. yes, there will be the unlucky days when you catch waiters trying to rush you.
He will try to come by, what feels like every 2mins, asking what you want next for the next course but you're still not even half way done with the 1st course!

If you have the guts and not embarrassed easily, brush the waiter off and tell him to not come by until you need him to come.  :oP

I felt bad BUT it was so ANNOYING because I was trying to enjoy my time in a place I really like.. I didn't tip him very  well the last time. Hey, can you blame me? :o/

Typical Boston restaurant experience. Went there for Mother's Day brunch. Food was nothing special and overpriced. The service was shoddy. The jazz was nothing special and they only played for a short time with piped music the rest of the time. Menu was uninventive. Would not go back and would not recommend (at least for brunch).

I am so in LOVE with this place! Hip vibe, great food, interesting people and live music.

I didn't expect much happening in that place on a Monday night, but we were nicely surprised. We enjoyed great food and drinks and later, after 10pm there was a live jazz singer. It was nice to sit close to the stage in a dim, sensual lighting while sipping on our cocktails.

If you want to socialize the bar downstairs seemed busy and it would be a great place to meet new people.

If you are in a couple I recommend getting dinner or cocktails before the music starts, because after it's too loud to enjoy anything other than whispers and kisses!

I have the best friends ever. No Seriously, they are the most awesome.

Just when I thought my birthday was over, the girls surprise me with a ladies night at the beehive. Now, I've been here to drink a few times... and am never that impressed. The only straight men that go have girlfriends that dragged them over there! Not my idea of a fun Friday night.

But, this time it was different. I wasn't looking to rage.. I was looking to eat! And my perception of the beehive has changed dramatically. The food was DELICIOUS! I really enjoyed everything I ate.

First of all, let me start with the sage fries. Some of the best french fies I've ever had. They are so bleeping good. You must, I repeat, MUST try these.

Second of all, the calamari. Perfection. I love when I get some hot peppers in there and the beehive did not disappoint.

Entrees: mixed reviews. I LOVED my chicken tikka masala dish. It was unbelievable. My friend's burger looked pathetic though... and I wasn't impressed by the grilled octopus salad. Meh. Oh well, at least I didn't order them! sorry friends :)

Service was fantastic, and even though it was packed our waiter was SPOT on. It's super loud in there but he was definitely a pro.

I recommend this place for a 3rd date. It's too loud for the first. Also, it's a GREAT girls night out spot.

Bravo, beehive. Thanks for a great bday.

Live music, good food? This place is adorbsies. For appetizers, I recommend the Moroccan cigars and the truffled potato and cheese pierogies-- delicious! I'm a big fan of skirt steak, and I absolutely loved it here. Cooked just the way I wanted it (medium-rare), with some really delicious salsa verde spread around the plate. And cauliflower mashed potatoes? Umm, yes! The decor is really unique here-- so many conversation pieces, and the ambience is really laid back and casual.

tl;dr: Would definitely come back again-- a nice place to grab a meal, chat with friends, and just soak in the atmosphere.

Finally made it here after a friend reminded me that it was still alive and kicking in the south end :=)

It's a cavernous place, but all the bohemian brocade and artsy gilt makes it feel warm and cozy...like hanging out in your funky rich aunties loft in soho. :+)

The drinks are lovely, the food was OK, the lives blues and chocolate dessert was awesome!

Come on payday for drinks, music  and sweets.

It was a Wednesday night at 530p and we were seated downstairs. The waiter took our drink order and came back to place our food order.  When we told him what we wanted he said we each had to order an entree to sit at these tables (there was 3 in my party).  If we didn't, then we'd need to relocate to the bar area.  Don't you think we should have been told this by the hostess before we sat? And did I mention, it was 530p and there were maybe 12 other diners in the place?  The waiter said he'd ask permission from his manager for us to stay & not move.  Which then we were able to sit & relax over our $80 check of apps & drinks.

Not rushing back anytime soon.. the only saving grace about the night was the spinach artichoke flatbread.

One word: atmosphere. The live music adds sooo much to the experience. Perfect date spot or place to hang with friends.

The food is good too. What's not to love about fries, gravy, and cheese? Nothing. So order the Poutine and enjoy the fatty deliciousness. The fries are perfectly salty, the gravy is buttery and the cheese is gooey...so indulgent and so addicting. It's the perfect dish to soak up all the amazing cocktails you'll be sipping. My favorite drink here is the Valentino--Vodka, blood orange, and passion fruit. Very tasty and potent.

Tip: Not cheap, but the live entertainment is worth it. Drink orders can take a while...patience is required.

I'm a local and I frequently visit the Beehive for fantastic cuisine and ambiance, but the service is always lacking. My most recent experience has made me want to start looking for a new favorite place in the South End. I took a friend to the Beehive for the Mardi Gras party on Tuesday night. It was one of the only Fat Tuesday celebrations around and the Beehive was a perfect place to go with hurricanes and a Cajun-inspired menu for the evening. The bourbon cheesecake was probably the best cheesecake I had ever had.

Unfortunately, it was the end of the evening that soured my whole night. The server brought us the check (mistakenly charged us for an extra hurricane cocktail) and after that was cleared up, we had just finished the last sips. Unfortunately, it was the end of the evening that soured my whole night. The server brought us the check (mistakenly charged us for an extra hurricane cocktail) and after that was cleared up, we had just finished the last sips when the host came up to our table and said, "Not to be rude, but people are waiting for your table. Are you ready to leave yet?" His behavior was unprofessional and appalling and has made me rethink future trips to the Beehive.

When I shared this experience with my roommates, they too complained of poor service. So, Beehive, we bid you ado.

It wasn't bad, but I didn't think it was particularly good.  Something about this place seems like it is trying too hard to be cool and it feels like a Disney set.  All of the waitstaff are dressed like super hipster-y keeping with the southern French kind of vibe it's got going on.  The service was poor.  Food mediocre and expensive.  Music was alright, but for jazz I'd go over to Wally's over this place any day of the week.  There is something that's fake about Beehive.  I can't put my finger on it, but I really didn't dig the vibe.  Very pretentious yet trying not to be pretentious.

Seated promptly, decent wine list but not a huge selection.  I got the risotto, which was spicier than I expected, but decent.  My friend got the short rib grilled cheese which she said was great.  We shared the calamari, it was the usual.  They had a problem with the microphone system at the music stage, kept making those loud speaker sounds, kind of obnoxious.  I liked the atmosphere overall.  Would have liked more vegetarian selections as i don't really like meat that much.

Went here for brunch for a roommate's birthday and overall had a really nice time. They have great customer service; our waiter was fantastic and the hostess moved us to a table a bit farther away from the jazz band, where we had been initially seated.

After being told they were out of the gyro, I ordered the quiche and it was delicious. It came with a nice side salad and a side of frites that were chip-like thin but still had the great french fry taste. The quiche had a nice sundried tomato spread on top that provided a nice flavor. Two of my friends ordered french toast and while they liked it, $15 for oversized french toast is a bit steep. Other orders included chicken fingers and an omelette, all of which were also good.

It's a great atmosphere for a special occasion or a lively brunch. Since we had gone out for her birthday the night before we passed on the cocktails. However, I have been to Beehive before fof drinks and they do a great job.

We went here for a friend's birthday, mostly for drinks and appetizers. Birthday girl was very disappointed the lamb no longer had brussel sprouts to accompany them. Birthday and she wants legumes :'O

The ambiance makes it for me - the blues band playing that night were wonderful. They were really nice with our party, our friend, and her birthday. I didn't care for how they put us right in front of the band. We had seven people in our party, and we could barely hear each other from a table part even before they started playing.

The food felt really unreasonably highly priced. It was tasty, but the perogi were 10.5 for two pieces on a salad. I'd hit it again with a Groupon or the like. The drinks were reasonable and creative. The Pink Flamingo was just plain gross though.

Overall it was just a really fun place to be.

What a unique and funky atmosphere this restaurant boasts, but had a horrible experience with management.  We had made a reservation for two, and my fiance decided to join us halfway through which made it three.  There was no one at the table next to us, and he scrunched in on the bench side of the table.  He was not ordering food, and was not taking up any extra space.  He had ordered a drink, which our server promptly brought over.  A few minutes later  management came over to the table and told him he needed to LEAVE?!  He had ordered a drink and joined the table and they had the audacity to ask a paying customer to leave.  Better management much needed at this restaurant.  Not sure they know quite how to run a customer oriented business.

Drinks are good, but food is always mediocre, I have never been wowed with any dish at the beehive.  If you like jazz, its a fun place to go, but if you want to feel like your business is valued, and want to eat good food...DONT WASTE YOUR TIME.

Finally went to The Beehive for dinner with my mom and a friend. First things first, mad props to our hostess/timing because we had a table right in front of the jazz band. Wonderful start to our dinner and I knew my mom would love it. I had the skirt steak, delicious, with mashed potatoes and spinach. Simple meal, but so well done. We each got a Queen Bee martini at the end of dinner and it was so amazing I could drink it all night long. That martini itself gets 5 stars. Other than that, your standard excellent night at The Beehive, A+ service, delicious food, wonderful atmosphere, like always.

    2.5 stars. Here's why:

Service ~ when we arrived we were first on the list for an open table (there were 3 of us). The hostess suggested we grab a drink at the bar and helpfully suggested we head downstairs because it would be less crowded. After some difficulty, we each snagged a drink and I was fully expecting to be seated by the time we had all finished that drink (roughly 20ish minutes, right?). That time came, and went. We waited for a little longer and opted to leave because we seemed to have been forgotten.

Drinks ~ limited tap selection, though they had Pretty Things Baby Tree, which was "A-OK" with me. Mixed drinks and cocktails seem to be their specialty, and the whiskey my friend had was quite good. So was the glass of Cabernet Sauvignon that my fiancee had. Can't really complain on this front.

Ambiance ~ fantastic. Very cool jazz club feeling, and live music both upstairs and downstairs (at least on Saturday nights, which is when we were there).

Food ~ oh, right. I can't tell ya about that because we were never seated.

P.S. Anyone seen that Jenna Marbles YouTube vid about white girls in the club? No? Here:

    http://www.youtube.com...

This? This HAPPENED right next to us (see roughly 1:25-1:50ish for the exact occurrence) while we were waiting for a table, which is part (okay, most) of the reason my patience ran thin while waiting to eat a meal that I never got the chance to eat. Like Ms. Marbles says, STOP IT.

It's always classy when a restaurant's fake electric candle has a big label across it, saying: "$35 charge if taken."  Especially when the candle holder is clear and the label is written in large, 16pt Arial...  Slick.  The singer on the stage, who sounded like Anthony Hamilton, but kept thrusting his crotch in the face of every poor soul who happened to be within 5 meters, left much to be desired.  Something about food, fake threatening candles, and a singer who acts like a sex-offender is a weird little mixie.

All said, the ambiance is kickass so if you remember to sit far back a bit, and not take the candles, you'll have a great time at the ol' Bee.

Food was fine, but they're giving us the bum's rush after a 2 hr (pricy) meal. Not going to win any awards for customer comes first.

    The food is fine.
    The drinks are fine.

The hostess said there were no tables available and we had to sit at the bar.

At the time, there were at least 20 open tables.

An hour later, as we have to wait 15 minutes to pay for our meal at the bar, there are more than 20 available tables.

Great jazz, awesome brunch, hipster waiters - what's not to love?

This place is always packed whenever I've been, be it for lunch, dinner or drinks.  Boston loves the Beehive and so do I! Maybe it's the live jazz, but the ambiance overall is very chill and easy-going - basically exactly what you want to start off a Saturday or Sunday morning.  Their brunch menu is phenomenal although not very comprehensive and lacking on the sweet entrees if that's your jam.  Our waiter recommended the Eggs Shakshura and it was really tasty: three eggs served sunnyside up atop a bed of sweet tomato sauce and polenta and two small slices of pita.  This is like an African-inspired version of huevos rancheros = yum.  The music in the background was noticeable without dominating the conversation - really good energy and the waiters are spunky and super nice too.

Although I didn't write about here, dinner's great too. Check it out for a slightly different, yet still trendy vibe.

Our night at The Beehive started off on a great note before even walking in the door.  I had never been before and called around opening time to speak with someone about how it all works (Music downstairs, tables throughout, and they can not guarantee a specific area in which you will sit) and the hostess was super nice and gracious.

We arrived a couple hours early and headed downstairs to listen to music and get some drinks.  I've been on a champagne kick recently and the two varieties I tried, especially the rhubarb number were great.  We then got a call from the hostess (a bit odd, but they call your cell when your table is ready) saying they had a table set for us.  We were seated upstairs by the railing overlooking the band, it was a spectacular vantage point.

Our knowledgeable server steered us correctly toward a  delicious Pinot Noir that is very exclusive and hard to find.  We started off with the ribs, and the moroccan cigars.  I'm not the biggest fan of middle eastern flavors, but that being said I enjoyed the cigars.  The ribs, however, were terrific!  We got an order of shrimp cocktail and that was delicious, but something hard to mess up.  These shrimp were perfectly sized and chilled and a great mezze between courses.  I got the duck with some sort of pilaf and roasted grapes and it was quite delicious.  My guy got the lamb and chicken with cous cous and seemed to like it, although if it had been my order I would not have been happy.  The presentation was great, but once you got into it it just turned into a mess.  For dessert we had the pot de creme which was outstanding.

Great live music + pretty good food + good service = 4

Although, my boyfriend and I are not a fan of Boston City, the Beehive had a nice live band.  We enjoyed our time there.

I recently went to the Beehive on a Friday night and must say that I was pleasantly surprised. I had heard the food was pretty good but nothing outstanding so my expectations were not very high. My bf and I ordered the calamari to start which was SO delicious. I love that it included fried onions and zucchini. We both ordered different cuts of steak which were cooked and seasoned perfectly. I'm not even a fan of cream of spinach but found myself wishing I had more after I ate all of mine. My bf's plate came with thick cut fries which were amazing. Overall, we had a great night out however I must say that we ended up with awesome seats (right inside the roped off area in front of the stage). No idea how!? There are a few seats where I could see the potential for a less than stellar dinning experience (right next to the bar downstairs). Oh and the music was great too :)

Appetizers are delicious...but I got the Bohemian breakfast ( I don't really recommend getting it because its a one note texture and just mush since is polenta, tomato sauce, and three eggs.) However, the other items on the menu looked great!

I don't  strongly  dislike the Beehive.  I mean its OK.  Let's just say I wouldn't RUSH back. .  I only give it two stars because I thought it was really expensive.  The Beehive has an OK atmosphere.  The ambiance is tolerable.  We kind of felt rushed to leave our table though.  The jazz is well - interesting to say the least.
