The Rainbow Bread for the kids grilled cheese is a hit in my family.

I recently returned to the Bakehouse and was extremely disappointed. I waited in line for 15 minutes before anyone even bothered to ask if I needed help. Then the lady at the cash register helped someone else before me!
I hate when a place has terrible customer service.  I love their Soda Bread but will just have to try and make it myself!

For some reason the name of the place I went to last weekend escapes me.  And for some reason, I can't find it on the internet, except this place which after reading through a bunch of reviews on other sites and this site, I have come to deduce that this is the place.

It used to be one of the local haunts I would have brunch in after our round of weekend golfing.  Fresh baked goods, (and yes, it is Hobbit like) and supposedly child friendly.  Notice the tennis balls on the feet of the chairs and you'll have an idea.

To get service it is quite simple.  Think very casual cafeteria.
Look at whats on the menu board on the far side to the right of the cashier.
Find what you want on said board or whatever you see in front of you behind the cashier.
    Place your order; pay.
Take a seat and when the order is ready, they'll call you name.
Raise your hand or stand up to acknowledge and they'll bring it to your table.

H liked the bread that came with the Mac n Cheese, but was hoping it would be  one of those gooey, cheesy, saucy, Mac n Cheeses.  It had tomatoes in them ,was lighter on the cheesy flavour and it wasn't as saucy. We both love gooey, cheesy, saucy!  Overall it was good, for me. but she doesn't like tomatoes.  I was happy to oblige by helping her eat it. :)
I had the quiche and salad.  The crust is very very good on this dish, something I took mental notes of while eating it.   It was light, and flakey and consdiering that was about the only carbs in that dish, I was able to indulge in her Mac n Cheese.

Both dishes were finished and I think not a crumb was left to spare.
    Mac n Cheese? I'd say a good 3 stars.
Quiche? I'd give it a 4 stars, maybe more. It was good.

Ambiance was comfy, the bright earthy colours and the sun shining through the window above our table inspired a sense of calmness.  I was in a happy place.  You'll notice little quotations scattered around this place.  Positive reinforcement of peace, love and happiness. You could just hold hands over a cup of tea and talk about the sunshine, the trees, the mornings romantic stroll in the park.  Or you could banter on about how great your golf game was and how you nailed that green on Cardiac Hill with just one drive!
However, the overall ambiance of the place seemed a bit quiet and I was a little bit let down by this.  Mind you, the weather was unpredictable and I'm sure the next time I come, it will be busier.
After reading the other reviews, I had to wonder. has it changed?  It was familiar, but something was different.  I will have to come back again for another try and another review.

    Side note:
I hear that it's also a great place for baked goods.  Unfortunately for me, I can't have it. I made my promise that I wouldn't indulge and I'm being a good boy.  Carbs bad for moi.

Hmm, was disappointed with this place. Had such potential, but failed miserably in execution . Had kids meal - total rip-off; Quiche - pastry amazing , filling ho hum; soup and sandwich - sandwich good, soup mediocre . Was very expensive for what is was, with a little work could be so much better.
    Staff lovely and lovely space.

A long time ago I loved the bakehouse, Fresh baked goods and Great Sandwiches.

If you are looking for a good $10. sandwich this place is it. I think they have ruined their reputation, by being to pricey and slow.

I have been working in Egdemont Village for several months and have been disapointed in the fact that there is no where to eat.

One morning outside Delaney's coffee shop my friend and I were talking about how there is no where in Edgemont to get eggs & bacon in the morning.  A woman overheard us talking and directed us to The Bakehouse.

We arrived back to The Bakehouse at around 12:30 for lunch and the place was packed so we had high hopes.  Sorry to say we were let down!

The menu is on an awkward chalkboard that is hard to see from most of the restaurant but we shuffled through the crowd and tables to figure out what we wanted.

I decided on soup and sandwich ($8.95) and my buddies ordered a roast beef sandwich ($9.50) and a tuna melt ($9.50).  When one of my friends asked what came with the $10 dollar sandwich the woman at the cash register rudely replied "it comes as a sandwich" - it really comes with two grapes.

When we finally got our sandwiches we were overcome with disappointment.  The sandwiches were tiny.  The other problem is they weren't nearly good enough for this price tag.

After we finished our food someone from the kitchen came out and stated "Finally you boys have been fed!" I am going to hope he was sarcastic.

How sad... it used to be so good.  The pies were filled with great fruit, surrounded by rich yet light pastry.  I returned with great expectations of the pleasures of the past... yecchh!!  Stodgy, tough pastry, a few pieces of fruit (tasted like canned despite being fruit season) swimming in a tasteless sweet gluey paste.  As bad as any of  the worst low eatery pies... yet the same high price.  So sad to see the demise of a once proud tradition.  Goodbye Bakehouse.

I prefer this location to the Dundarave one. The service isn't great, but the food is. I love the chicken sandwich and the desserts.
