I love the Back Porch.  With all the corporate chains out there, it is nice a fun down home place to go.  To me it feels like small town Texas.

I do have to admit, I am partial to places that have live music and am also a sucker for country cooking.

I went to the Back Porch for lunch the other day and have gotten turned on to their brisket nachos.  I have had them the last couple times I have gone and really like them.  Definitely ask for extra bbq sauce.  It is not a busy lunch place, and I kind of like that.  It truthfully reminds me of driving the back way from Dallas to Kerrville, Marble Falls or San Antonio and taking highway 287.  If you go on that highway, there are little down home places to eat in each little town you pass through.

If you are looking for a fancy place or a chain, then the Back Porch is not your place, but if you are looking for a comfortable casual place, I recommend it.

I need to go back when they have some music going.  I tried the Back Porch for lunch, and the hamburger left a little to be desired.  The service was fine, but it was  a really slow day, and it felt like it was really a drag to be there at the time.  It's a great place if you like to have a beer and a cigarette, but I'm not sure I'd recommend it for everyone.

Whenever I make it out to the Back Porch I remember how great this place is.  We went out there to hear Brain Burns play a couple weekends ago.  First of all Brian Burns is awesome, he is a Texas Singer Songwriter that depending on the song sounds anywhere from a Pat Green to a Waylon Jennings but mostly to me me settles in sounds like Townes Van Zandt or maybe Jerry Jeff Walker with his kind of witty story telling.

As for the Back Porch, it is just a fun friendly place and a rare place where you can go see someone like Brian Burns play for free and have some beers.   I think I read eitehr in one of the other reviews or somewhere else that it is kind of like a more country version of Saxon Pub in Austin and I would agree with that.  A fun place to sit back with a cold beer and listen to some original local music.

Not to be confused with The Porch (I'm sure the difference is night and day), the Back Porch is a small lil' couuunnntry bar at the quiet end of Main street.  Beer was cheap, and the crowd was small, laid-back, and tolerant of our party's antics for hours on end.

Somehow, 150 pictures of cleavage (not mine, as if I had it) were taken to the accompaniment of the live Castillo Carver band.  Our waitress, Angele, was wonderful and probably made 94 trips from the bar to our tables carrying 12 shots at a time.

They serve food, although I only know that cause the website told me so.  The decor looks like they raided a landfill right next to a retirement home, but it went with the theme.  You've hit the big time if your choice bar is a "laid back, come as you are, don't order no frilly fancy beers, smoke until your friends have lung cancer" kind of place.

Meh. I've experienced better just about sums it up. I met here with some friends to grab a quick bite to eat. The place was not busy at all which I wasn't surprised, it doesn't seem like the best place to eat dinner. I ordered the chicken strips for dinner. The chicken strips consisted of 84.5% batter and 15.5% chicken. Don't get me wrong, I love the crispiness but there was no chicken so it was kinda strange. Service was okay. They had a live band playing that night and I guess they came early to practice. They were singing over the mic and it was so loud we couldn't hear anything. It actually forced us to leave because it was so annoying. Doubt I'll be making another trip here.

Now that I'm back in Texas for a week for work I've been trying to have as much down south cooking as possible and this is just what I was looking for!

Our group had the fried pickles and the ranch was just as I had remembered back in my college and high school days and then we had queso to follow that up.  Although the queso was nothing more than cheap melted cheese, I still thought it was wonderful.  As the main course I had the chopped BBQ spud and with the addition of extra BBQ sauce it was absolutely scrumptious!

The final departing gift was the peach cobbler and the brownie sundae which were both wonderfully warm and delicious and tasted fairly close to homemade!

The only thing I would suggest would be not to go on Tuesday nights when they have live music setup right in the middle of the dining area which makes it hard to socialize.

I came here with a friend on a Saturday a week or so ago.  We were supposed to have a large Chiari meetup, but everyone but Janet and I ended up having to cancel at the last minute.

We waited a good hour in case someone was able to make it.  The waitress was really nice to just let us sit and checked on us occasionally to make sure we had enough soda.

We ordered some chips and salsa to snack on while we were waiting.  And then after the hour has passed we ordered lunch.  I had the chopped sirloin smothered steak.  The gravy, mushrooms and onions had good flavor but the chopped sirloin had been cooked until it was DEAD.  If they cook sirloin this much.. remind me never to get a burger here.

I had bought a http://restaurant.com coupon to use but since the group didn't show up I will save it for our next attempt.

OK, can you say fish out of water?  That was me, my husband and my four year old son tonight at The Back Porch.  We were surrounded by a slew of wranglers, cowboy hats and cigarette smoke.  I was a little bit scared, but don't stop reading here- I promise it gets better.

They do have a non-smoking dining area and we asked to sit there, but when we went in, the area was vacant and the loud country music was muted, so we asked to be seated back out with the crowd. We got to pick our own table right in the middle of it all.  As the night went on and the live music started, we ended up sharing, that's right-sharing, our table with a couple who offered us some of their stuffed jalapenos to which we politely declined, but it was the thought that counts.

I had the chicken fried steak, and for $8.99, how can you go wrong?  This steak was very lightly breaded and it was very good, I asked for the gravy on the side so I could dip and not smother.  I had the side salad which was very fresh and the squash casserole which was too cheesy for me, but my husband loved it.  You get Texas toast or cornbread with the meal and I had the cornbread. Great choice- it was very moist and yummy!  My husband had the low carb burger that is two patties stuffed with feta cheese. He loved it along with a side of cabbage.  The cabbage was delicious and I don't just compliment everyone's cabbage.  My son had the Tiny Texan grilled cheese and for $2.99, can you beat that?  It comes with fries too.  He ate the entire thing.  I also had a sweet tea which was very good as well.

It's almost too trivial to mention, but I accidentally got hit in the face with a bar towel by a waiter who had it looped through his belt loop. The tables got a bit full so he had to squeeze around and on a corner turn he accidentally hit me in the face with the towel.  He never noticed and I moved past it, but thought it was worth noting.  Our server was absolutely fabulous.  Attentive, kind and professional describes him to a T.  When the live band asked if it was a 21 and over crowd and everyone started pointing to my four year old, we knew it was time to go.  But the band was so good that we stayed for a few more songs and then left. The whole place was hugging and shaking hands with each other, so obviously a lot of regulars continue to patronize the place.  We might be hugging before long, as we plan to go back soon.

Unfortunately all the previous reviews lead us to believe that this place had good food. I can't speak about karaoke or the bar area but I can tell you this is not place for a meal - the food was barely edible and the service was poor. My mother ordered a steak and it was comparable to a piece of rubber. The service was slow at best as it took an extremely long time to get our food. There are too many other choices in the area for a meal and I would definitely recommend selecting another place.

The Back Porch is a mix of things.  It is a fun country themed bar at night but during the day it is more of a focus on their non-smoking restaurant room (which is about half of their restaurant) and their food (specifically for me, their bbq sauce).

When you go there for lunch, you walk into the area that is the bar and where the music is usually played and then to go throught a little mini-hallway to their non-smoking dining room.  Not that a lot fo people smoke in the other room but it has more of a honky tonk bar feel.

Once you take a seat and get a menu, order anything that comes with bbq sauce.  They have a hickory burger with BBQ sauce, brisket nachos that you can get with bbq sauce or just brisket.  They are somewhat known for their bbq but I would say probably more known as a singer songwriter bar, but I think they have hands down the best bbq sauce in the area.

We asked them if they sold their bbq sauce.  They said that they did, but we didn't get any on that trip because we didn't want to leave it in the scorching Texas sun in our car while we ran errands but next time we cook bbq or have bbq or do anything bbq related, I am going to the Back Porch to get their bbq sauce.  It is amazing!

It is funny how much my reviews can vary based on expectations (and price/value).  I just reviewed Reata and gave it 4 stars because of all the hype it gets makes the expectations so high that it is hard to gives it 5 stars, whereas I had no expectations when I went into the Back Porch and came out very pleasantly surprised.  It is an unassuming, friendly neighborhood hang out.  The food was good and the people couldn't have been nicer.  There is nothing particularly amazing about the Back Porch, unless you find a friendly, downhome, unassuming Country bar and grill in the middle of DFW to be amazing (which it just might be).  If you are looking to put on some jeans and hang out with some friendly company, this is a good place to try out.

If you are in Grapevine, looking for amazing Texas homestyle food, this is the place.  If you are looking for some fun on a Thursday night, go here for some alcohol and microphones (ie: karaoke).  Live music on the weekends, usually country (it is a country bar -and tavern-) or classic rock.  Good music, delicious food and friendly regulars all make this a great place to eat and/or drink.

ok. i love this place. i love how hubby and i were in southlake and i remembered the great reviews for the back porch and insisted on having dinner here.

a recipe for a great friday night is...live band, beers, and delicious food. and this place is three for three. we both started out with a crazy appetizer sampler of chips with salsa and queso accompanied by fried pickles (yum for me) and fried zucchini/squash. it has to be delicious if its batter dipped and fried. hubby ordered the texas sized pork chop with fries and green beans, suggested by the waiter, and i ordered the chopped brisket spud. i loved everything. the pork chop was huge and so tender. it had a nice crust and was flavorful without being too salty or sweet. my spud was perfect. there's just something hypnotizing about a giant potato stuffed with brisket and drizzled with sweet bbq sauce.

i want to go back now.

A nice neighborhood bar.  Friendly local customers; friendly waitpersons.  Full bar and they serve Tito's (don't laugh, MANY places don't).  Can't testify to the food as I didn't eat but the barbeque pit outside smelled great.
On Thursday nights they have karaoke and these people are good!  Most take it quite seriously but you also have those who will give it a go after some liquid encouragement.
All in all, a very fun place to go.

Terrible!!  Just had lunch there and we should have walked out when the place was dead at 12:30 on a weekday when there should be a lunch crowd.  All four entrees we ordered were borderline inedible.  I hate complaining and sending food back so we didn't.  We just suffered through.  I did have to ask for a coke instead of my tea because it had such a bad taste of nasty, dirty water I couldn't drink it.  Is it that difficult to add a filter to your water.  My entree was the pork quesadilla and I am 99% sure it was beef instead.  Not that big a deal but it was just a thin layer greasy chopped beef between a flour tortilla with a smidge of cheese and a side of sour cream and salsa for $9.  I had to slather it with sour cream to get it down.  All of our entrees could be mistaken for coming from school cafeteria.  Please don't waste a dime at this dive.  I definitely hope tourists don't stop in here for a meal because this place is just an embarrassment to the town of Grapevine.  If the bar is cool for people that like country bars, fine, just quit serving disgusting food and taking peoples money.
