Great hits and misses here. Some night can be packed and the music can be great with a live band but other nights, it's a bit of a horror show. Large venue, two floors with pool tables upstairs and cheap pitchers and drinks.
Doormen can be totally power-drunk monkeys, (which is hilarious given it's Kingston) but I haven't had any trouble. Never really tried the food here and not planning on it.
So, pick and choose your nights here. You've been forewarned. -

Went to the Canteen on Friday to enjoy some 55c wings with my marketing group. Solid atmosphere, slow service. Not too crowded around 6:30 pm so wasn't too packed.

Alehouse is always packed to the gills with Queen's students, in fact one could say that it's been completely colonized. While this isn't always a bad thing, if you go to Queen's you're inevitably going to run into at least four or five people you know. Which, depending on the night, can be good or bad. On the plus side they have incredibly cheap drink nights (Thursday is of special note) and students usually get in free most weekend nights with student cards before midnight.
However, the music is miserable. Granted I haven't been to Ale more then once this year, but it's packed with top 40 hits, which isn't always a bad thing so long as they are mixed properly. But I can remember at least three different times where the music has just stopped (pure silence on the dance floor ensues) and where the DJs have switched and the same song has been played (boo).
