Very nice wine bar in a very cool Neighborhood. The atmosphere was casual, warm and inviting. Our group sat in the corner on very comfortable leather chairs. There is plenty of different types of seating including at the bar and outdoor. The service was exceptionally friendly and the wine prices were very reasonable because they also sell retail. Paying retail price for a bottle of wine at a wine bar is rare. We stumbled on to this place, but I definitely plan to go back. Service-5 stars, value-5 stars, ambiance-5 stars.

I am from San Francisco where there are tons of Wine Bar.  Let me tell you that this place is a must visit.  Ask for Brandon, he is such a great guy and will take care of you.  This place is quaint and quiet, nice place to have a glass of wine, and you can have a conversation with your date without yelling.

I brought my own wine expecting to be charged for corkage....to my surprise Brandon mention that they do not charge corkage (SCORE!).

The service is excellent.  Brandon is Impressive!!!!

The only downside is that they only serve appetizer

The Alcove is a quaint wine bar located within a upper scale neighborhood.  All in all, the environment is relaxed, with comfortable furniture, and very suitable for quiet conversation, making it an ideal location for a date if your desire is to get to know someone without the need to yell above the crowd.

The list for "By the Glass" wine is small, however, bottles are very reasonably priced.  If your desire is for two people to have two glasses each, you are better off getting a bottle to share.

The Alcove only serves appetizers, which makes it a nice beginner location.  Have a few drinks, an appetizer, and good conversation.... Then move to a nice restaurant for dinner.

The loss of a star was due to the service.  Although the staff is extremely friendly, they did forget to bring out the appetizer and needed to be reminded.  They apologized by giving the appetizer at half cost, which does show sincerity.

I will be returning to The Alcove.  My experience may not have been perfect, but overall I truly enjoyed the environment.  It's worth taking a look and judging for yourself.

I thought it was my first time, but I was wrong ... it was my last time here.

Understanding that I am writing about my own experience which apparently is completely contrary to everyone else's.  Allow me to start at the beginning.... A long long time ago ... Just kidding.

The night was nice and cool, and I was wearing a nice warm shirt, my wife in a sweater (not making a fashion statement, this will come up later on)  We are looking for a date night place, and my first choice was more of a coffee shop than a wine bar and we find The Alcove on Yelp ... we are only 2 miles away from where my first choice was so we scoot on over.

First, I was hoping for some eats, which it doesn't seem this place has, but that is cool because what I want is some wine ... good wine, and a nice place to sit.

Guys behind the bar make a joke about going back but not too far ... haha.  We go sit down, I thought I heard them say they will be with us in a minute.  We sit down, the chairs are nice, but the TV screens ... seriously it seems that every damned place in the world wants to be a sports bar...

Anyway, we wait a few minutes, and about the time we figure there isn't any wait service the roof takes a piss on me.  Yes the building PEED on me through a light fixture.

We left, now very cold because my nice warm shirt is now wet  ... I don't like to be peed on.  We won't be back.

Louise and Jason makes this place awesome! From their incredible wine selections to the great beers on draft and bottle!

The alcove is definitely a neighborhood gym!!

A great place to get a bottle or beer on the way home or stop in and have a good time!

Very cute place.  Sat at the bar since I was the first of the group to arrive.  Dude working was very nice.  They don't have many choices for "by the glass", so I settled on the $5 happy hour chardonnay.  It was good.  The evening crowd that started to arrive was getting a little douchey, and the dude working was clearly overwhelmed since he had to make all the food in the back.  So service went downhill pretty fast.  I still had a good time, and getting to listen to a million songs by Nirvana was sweet!

This place is great, I've gone in after work and after a workout, looking to talk, looking to read, and to watch a game.  They are always accommodating as long as you're friendly.  It's rare to find a bar in this town that appreciates each of it's customers to the degree that the alcove does.
Free Wi-Fi, dog friendly patio, a menagerie of wines to choose from and over 60 beers.  They have a small appetizer menu and they don't mind if you order take out from another restaurant.
My only knock on this place is their lack of liquor but that's probably better for me in the long run.

I've probably walked by this place a million times and never noticed it. I'm so silly sometimes!

While the service wasn't speedy, things were kept cool and casual and they let Caroline H and I enjoy our $18 bottle of Sauvignon Blanc.

We started off at one of the art deco tables by the window, but the vents starting blowing out too much chilly air, so we moved to the couches. I don't think there's really a bad seat in the house!

It stayed pretty quiet the entire time, with less than a handful of people coming/going while we were there.

We were also offered appetizers but declined; I think I'll say yes next time. They sounded yummy!

Another cool thing about this place is that they'll open any (read: ANYTHING ON THEIR LIST) bottle if you promise to commit to two glasses. That's pretty easy to do and makes sense, considering their prices of glass v. bottle are very competitive.

Also, I wanted to slip my wine glass into my big purse. The thing was huge and almost required two hands to hold it... just the way I like it! (TWSS) They didn't give skimpy pours here either. Nice!

I hosted a mixer here several week ago and had a GREAT experience, as did all my folks.  The staff was extremely friendly and attentive.  The location is just the right size for a mid-size mixer, and the patio is also welcoming in great weather.  Loved all the "dog traffic" it attracted as well as another dog lover.  Pets are welcome :-)

This is a bar that doesn't really look like one.  If you want to go drinking in a place that is clean, well-lit, not too noisy and friendly - then this is the place. They also have an excellent selection of Belgian beers on tap - and that is what earns them the 4 stars. I've never had Belgian strawberry beer on tap - but they've got it here, as well as several other more masculine brews.

So everyone knows I am an Uptown hater and I have that right since I lived there for 2 years and know what I'm talking about.  But a couple of work colleagues were having a party at the Alcove so I made my way over to the old hood.  This place is located on State Street in the middle of all the apartments and townhouses so it could be hard to find if you aren't used to the area.

I went in and immediately liked the way the place was set up.  First off, BAR right in front of you.  Let's put the most important thing where it needs to be!  Over to the right there was a seating area with some relaxing couches.  The wines were preselected for our group so I can't remember what the names were but suffice to say they were all good (and judging from the way I felt the next day I am sure I had one of each) so you should have a good selection to choose from.  Wines are available for purchase as well.  AND they have a large selection of unique beers if you don't like the vino.

The staff working that night were super friendly and accomodating and you don't always find that - especially in wine bars and especially in Uptown.  I'm not hatin, I'm just sayin!  I liked their vibe.

Also, I am not sure if they have food available all the time, but for the party there was an appetizer table with the following:
Delicious little bites of crouton-type bottom and cheesy top
open faced small glazed pork sandwiches
cheese board with those freakin awesome bread and butter pickles, brie with fruit on top, dill Havarti, cheddar, and some crackers to eat with it
Bite sized desserts including tiny little cheesecakes and cookies

I really liked this place and could definitely see myself going back if I am in the area.  And if you are looking for a place to throw a shindig you could definitely impress by having it here!

This is a great little trendy bar.  They only serve beer and wine, but a nice selection at really good prices.  You can come in and take wine to go or sit of their comfy couches and hang out there.

We were there last night with a large group and they were very accommodating.  We watched the NFL game here on their big projection screen and had so much fun.  The service is great and the atmosphere is so nice.  We will definitiely be back soon!  :)

Romantic and fun... great happy hour... good service... nice selection of wines to try and buy.  All in a fun, walkable neighborhood.  Highly recommended.

I attended a party there and they had these great little crouton with cheese appetizers that were awesome.

    We'll be back.

Based on one visit I am giving it 5 stars.  I hope it will continue to impress.

Great atmosphere, super-friendly staff and they have CHIMAY on tap!!  As well as some other very hard to find beers.  I was also surprised at how reasonable their prices were.

Half of this place is set up with large, comfy couches and a TV area.  The other half is the bar area.  And there's a small patio out front.  It would make a great place to take a date for sure.

The owner, Jason, as well as the bartender working were both really cool people.  And all of the patrons were nice as well.  We went during TX/OU weekend and I halfway expected it to be full of the drunk, belligerent frat crowd (like every other establishment in Uptown was that evening) but the crowd here was very chill, very friendly, very well behaved but still having a great time.   I noticed a few neighborhood people popped in to buy a bottle or two of wine.  The prices seemed like they were at or below what you'd pay in most liquor stores, and they have some great brands like Cakebread and a few others that I know are hard to find.  Didn't get to sample the food, but that'll be next time.

I don't even really like Uptown but I'll be coming back to this place for sure.

Can't believe I didn't know this place has been open for a year a half...thought I was on top of everything new in Dallas!  Anyway, went last night and watched the hockey game over a $19 bottle of wine - amazing deal!  The bartender is great, the atmosphere is cozy and relaxing and the wine and beer lists are extensive.  This will definitely become a new neighborhood hangout!

The Alcove is a great little neighborhood place to relax, try some wine, and follow your favorite TV shows with similar fans.  They have watching parties for The Bachelor, Lost , Survivor, and othe popular TV shows. They have a great selection of wines from all over. They also offer beer and wine to go.
