Review from Allen C.
A satisfying lunch lessened by rushing service and expensive side dishes. The yellow curry chicken rice was a fiery sensation. On the menu, they gave the order 3 hot peppers for hot and they delievered that flavour today. Though as mentioned, they didn't give the dish enough rice and for once there was enough chicken curry to cover two heapfuls of rice. I had to order a second small bowl to finish the curry off. I was charged $2.30 for rice which is way overpriced for just plain rice.
It wasn't busy at the time but we were felt rushed to leave. Kind of surprised that there was such a rush to depart when no one was waiting to be seated. -

5 Stars for a Great Weekday Lunch Menu!
This is by far the best Thai House out of all their chains and I have gone there almost on a weekly basis, although I have been on and off with this commitment lately due to life's excitements so to speak.
Weekday lunch is a great deal at $7.50 per person which include a vegetarian spring roll and small iceberg garden salad. The menu consists a list of items to choose, though somewhat limited and are typically enough for one person so ordering two or more dishes will be way too much for a single person. But this plays to your advantage if you go with a friend because instead of ordering one dish per person, you can split the dishes to not be bored with one.
The one dish I must always order is the Yellow Tofu Curry, and my favorite dishe(s) to accompany it would be the chicken and green beans, chicken in peanut sauce, or chicken with the vegetables that include chayote.
Aside from lunch, the regular menu (with slightly larger portions) starts to get pricey - for example, that $7.50 yellow tofu curry will turn into a $20 dish including the steamed rice which has to be ordered separately. Weekend lunch I believe is around $9.50.
The restaurant had moved a few years back to a new location just down the street. The new atmosphere is more modern and clean with low lighting (but not so low that you can't see what you are eating). The restaurant itself is clean and well maintained.
The staff are always friendly, dishes more often than not clean, and wash facilities also clean.
Overall 5 stars for a great weekday lunch menu. Unfortunately, 3.5 stars for the other menus.
Note that it get's really busy at 12-1pm on business weekdays due to office worker drones flooding the place. -

The place we always end up !! Since the Thai House upgraded a few years ago, it has really become our favourite local restaurant. It's a fantastic mix of ambience, decor, excellent service, and great food. It's one of those "above-casual" places where it's nice to be for a quiet dinner together, and the food is consistent and tastes great.
We tend to get the same things most times, the Yellow Chicken Curry for me, and the Pad Med Mamaung for my wife, but when we've ventured out to something different the results have been reliably good then too.
Parking is free and always available (up on the roof), there are rarely waits for tables, but the place always has a good number of guests.
My only complaints are that the sides of rice are too small, and no free refills on the Soda, but those don't begin to stop us returning again and again ... look forward to seeing you again soon Thai House :) -

I like Thai House, we go their fairly often, but we always get the same thing - I get the satay chicken on spinach and my partner gets the chilli cashew stirfry (62 and 63 on the menu).
Bit boring of us I know, but that's what we go there for. Have taken some friends there, and they were rather disappointed with their meals (pad thai and a curry) so I think it depends on what you get... I can recommend the satay though!!! -

Visited the Thai House again last Saturday night. Despite being very busy, we were seated after only a short wait. The service was excellent and the food excellent. Our three dishes arrived hot and full of flavor - portions are generous and oh so tasty.
Nice to see the staff all dress up for Halloween.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Although that food was ok and the wait to be seated wasn't very long, it is not that great. Because it is a franchise and quite famous around, it has been overrated.
It took a really long time for the food to arrive and even after it arrived, we had a 15 minute wait between dishes.
The portions weren't great either, and the flavour weren't unique. I have definitely had better. -

I love this place. The food quality is consistant and good. Lamb chops with fried basil leaves, the pineapple fried rice, panang curry all favorites of mine. I think I could eat there everyday!
My only complaint is that they dropped Chau Muang from the menu. :-(
Best Thai on the North Shore for sure!!! -

Where: Thai House
Address: 116 West Esplanade
Atmosphere: Very clean decorative environment. I wouldn`t sit close to the door as it seems to have issues shutting behind people. Luckily the waiter was on top of it closing it every 5 minutes, however, if you`re not the fresh air cold type, try and aim for a seat in the back.
Price: I went for the lunch special with some co-workers and for $7.50 for some chicken stir fry and rice isn`t a bad price at all considering that you can easily spend that on fast food. Haven`t seen their dinner menu, therefore, cannot comment on the prices in regards to that.
Menu: Good lunch special options. Basic stir fry`s, curry`s and rice dishes at lunch portions.
Service: Great service, not steller, however, they were fast and friendly but not personable even though for lunch in the area they weren`t that busy.
Food: I haven`t eaten a lot of Thai food, therefore, I cannot make a comparison, however, for what it was, it tasted great by my standards...the chicken ginger stir fry and rice. The fried banana was good in concept, however, the batter tasted bitter for some reason, therefore, half way through I ended up peeling off the batter and just eating the warm banana. -

We had the Pad Thai, Lamb Skewers, and the Soup that night, and nothing was good, and the price was not cheap either for what you get. The Pad Thai was literally ketchup served with noodles, with barely any ingredients in it. The soup was okay, but the skewers were dry and tasteless, even with the sauce.
I've been to Thailand for a long trip before, and was really disappointing at the quality of food here. I thought that this was one of the first Thai restaurants in Vancouver, but it seems like their quality has gone down a lot since I last visited Thai House on the Robson location.
I must say though, the interior of this Thai House is gorgeous and chic, which was nice. I will probably not go back to the Thai House here. -

We went for an early dinner and were seated promptly, and the restaurant was mostly empty. The major low point of the evening was the utter lack of serving standards across the board. We were approached repeatedly during our meal (stopped counting after the 5th time) with comments like "are you finished?" and "can I pack it up for you?" They cleared my plate before I was done. It would get to the point where we had answered the question, gone back to our meal and conversation, only to get a different server asking us exactly the same question 2 minutes later. Most shocking lack of customer care.
How badly did they want us out? They packed up the leftovers and put it on the booth for us. The dessert was an afterthought - the server simply put the takeout bag down and said "oh, I'll get you some dessert."
How badly did they need our business? I looked around after the 5th attempt to shepherd us out, and the restaurant was not even at half capacity. There was no lineup and certainly no reason for the rush job. What a overall disappointing experience from a 'Vancouver staple.' I cannot believe this same chain is behind concepts like Charm and Urban Thai Bistro.
Oh, and PS, the chicken curry in coconut was dry. -

We were at Stanley Park one night. My husband noticed the Lions Gate Bridge and decided it would be something cool to drive across.
And, so, the next day we drove across the bridge to North Vancouver and meandered our way to Lonsdale Quay. (I'd been there via SeaBus before, but never by car.) It was lunchtime and we were hungry. Being the family Thai food fanatic, when I spotted the Thai House, I had to go check out the menu. My husband is less enthusiastic than I about Thai food, but will eat certain items on the menu.
Finding things on the menu that he will eat, we went in. We were seated at a comfortable booth. The lunch menu has a number of tempting selections for only $7.50. (This include entrée, rice, salad and egg roll.) I think of Vancouver as being expensive, but a $7.50 lunch special is less than I'd pay at any Thai restaurant here in Seattle (at least any of the ones I'd actually eat at).
He had the chicken w/ spinach and peanut sauce. I had the green chicken curry. We were both very happy with the quality, quantity, flavor and spiciness of our meals.
Service was friendly and efficient. Our water glasses were never empty. Our bellies and wallets were happy when we left. No complaints at all. A very satisfying meal. -

It's funny how the Thai House is so close, but I don't get there much. That's probably because most of my friends and family aren't into spicy food, and are afraid to try it, even though not all Thai food is that hot. (I will say, though, that the hottest Thai food is hotter than anything else I've ever had: Mexican, Indian, and Sechuan included.)
First, the decor: personally, I liked the old location better. It had a traditional feel to it that suited a country with such a long and proud history. The new place looks like it belongs in some trendoid style magazine. That doesn't affect the food, of course, but I found it mildly annoying.
Next, the service: friendly, helpful, but not too pushy. Once we declined cocktails before dinner, they never pestered us on the drinks issue again, and they were very diligent in keeping our water glasses full. The one stroke against them is that two people in my party ordered tea, but it never arrived.
Finally, the food. Everybody in my party had different constraints on their diet: this one can't eat nuts, that one can't eat shellfish, the other one is avoiding carbs, and most of them can't handle spices. However, everybody managed to find something safe to eat, and everybody seemed to be pleased with their choices. In my case, the satay chicken was good, and the pineapple fried rice was exquisite. -

These guys could paper their restaurant with all their Best-of and Best-Restaurant awards. But we left stumped as to what all the gum flapping is about.
Our food was okay -- hot, decently flavorful, and what we ordered. These guys would get three stars if not for all the excessive hype about the awards. When you put all those stickers on your door, my dear proprietors, you do set a certain bar for yourselves. All restaurants are not judged equally.
The service was good. Most notably, when I got a little red curry sauce on my sleeve the waiter brought soda water without us even asking. This makes me wish I could award a half star.
The spitting-distance-to-the-Seabus does make this a convenient restaurant if you're returning from Grouse by transit. I don't anticipate the opportunity for a re-review here. -

The food here is really delicious. I've never been disappointed with the food. I've been here twice, I've been to the older location as well. The only thing which I found kind of strange with the service was there were about 4 different people serving us which made it a bit difficult to ask questions because me and my friend didn't know who are server was. It was a bit confusing. Other than that the food was pretty yummy and the prices weren't bad. I like how you can customize just like at most Thai places most of your meals especially if you're a vegetarian.

Have eaten here for dinner a few times now. I like spicy food and the food here was really good. The service was quick, the food was well presented and the ambiance is way better then the old location. Meal #SF63 is my favorite ... chicken with cashew nuts and veggies in a spicy sauce. Definitely will be one on my short list of places to eat on the North Shore.

This place has a nice atmosphere, upscale but cozy. The food is great, I had the lunch special which consisted of a spring roll, stir fried vegetables with fresh basil and tofu and a side of pad thai. My only complaint would be that there was no option for the pad thai to be vegetarian when it is part of the special. Luckily the stir fry itself was filling. The staff are friendly and attentive.

Good spot for lunch. Although it is always packed with a bunch of ICBC workers, it shouldn't be too hard to find a table. Also have a patio outside. For $7.50, you get a yummy starter salad, spring rolls and a list of main courses you can choose from. I enjoyed the vegetarian pad thai (i know, so boring) when I last went and I have no complaints. You can't beat the price either.

Only place we could find that was open at 9ish. It was alright, not the greatest not the worst. Filling though they gave too much food I felt. Neutral on it overall, decor was nice.

One word to describe the food: gross!
