Review from Kat S.
I was pleasantly surprised by my take-out from here. Yum!
I love that the menu allows you to make almost any meal vegetarian. This could be just veggies, or with tofu. Awesome.
I was craving some curry and went for the medium spiced red curry with pumpkin (I love pumpkin!) and tofu. You can choose white or brown rice, but I went for the standard white rice. The rice was plentiful and I didn't even eat all of it. The curry was nicely spiced and I was totally in love with the pumpkin bits. They didn't skimp on the tofu, either. My craving was quickly satiated and my belly protruding.
I thought the prices were really good, and the food came out super fast. I had very pleasant service (with a smile!) even though the shop was rather busy during the dinner rush.
I will for sure get food from here again if I am in need of some Thai curry in a hurry!Listed in: Vegetarian Friendly Options, Time for Thai

I have never eaten in here, but it's a fantastic go-to place to stock up on frozen entrees, perfect for meals in minutes and camping (yes you heard me correctly). Favourites include red and yellow curries.
I like that they've recently added rice to the bag which means it is literally 10 minutes from boiling to eating. A little trick, stop by Kins or West Valley and grab a couple of extra peppers/mushrooms/spinach etc. Give them a stir fry and toss em in the curry. Bulks up a meal well enough that there is usually leftovers! But even without the veggie invasions, it's a cheap and quick meal... and if you're being thrifty, they usually have some sort of sale like buy one get one 1/2 off. -

Today I visited the Cambie location at lunch by accident. I was excited. Last time I went to the Davie location, I had a great dinner. So I order my tofu and veggie dish with brown rice and when the food came out, I felt my heart sink. No salad? No spring roll? No soup? What is this? I put my nose back in my book and ate my food like a good little girl, trying to fight the heartache.
This location wasn't as good as the Davie one, the rice wasn't hot and the portion was small. But maybe that's just how they roll at lunch and I need to suck it up. Don't hate.. appreciate?
Still better than many other Thai spots for the price.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I love some good take out...I love some good Thai...and what do you know..Thai Away Home offers both...
It's likely most the best Thai food you will ever eat..but the location in convenient to the West End...the service is decent and you can rely on the food being consistent..
I am a big fan of the green curry with egg plant and the red curry with chicken..both are just spicy enough to clear my nasal passages but not so spicy I can't taste for 3 weeks...
I would suggest not eating in..it's pretty small and can get crowded and loud and not that enjoyable to eat your meal... -

I'm prone to give this place, not due to amazing food quality or authenticity, four stars simply based on convenience and speed.
For some reason whenever I'm on Davie, I'm rarely in the mood for a big sit-down meal. The strip is kind of designed for that though with about 75% of the places being semi-fast food. Thai Away Home is definitely one of these.
While the food isn't mind blowing it comes out fast, fresh and enjoyable enough for the price you pay. The restaurant itself also has enough seating that it isn't just kind of a stand to pick up food at, like so many other places on the strip. You can sit and have a meal or just leave, whatever you please.
So yes, not mind blowing but for a quick, cheap meal it's one of the better options along Davie. While nothing is heart stopping, I've never had a bad dish and that really says something about a place that's churning stuff out all the time. -

Thai is my favourite ethnic food, and I'm pretty picky about it. This restaurant did not disappoint me.
It serves very good Thai food at reasonable prices.
This is like a counter service / sit-down hybrid. You order at the counter but the cashier brings you the food at your table.
The Tom Kha Ghai (coconut chicken soup) is excellent. The curry dishes also are excellent.
Entrees are under $10. Now that's tasty, especially when the food is excellent. They have excellent specials for lunch. -

Mildly satisfied my Thai craving.. The combos are uber confusing - you can't actually choose the salad you want with it (lettuce, carrot and some kind of coconut paste is a salad?), not as good value as I first thought, but still okay.
The place across the street is also worth trying - few more dollars for a similar meal.. don't know which one I prefer yet. -

Look at me, review no. 400! I celebrated with an excursion into the big city and a late lunch at this cute Thai takeout. I was just in time for one of their daily lunch specials, and ordered a ginger chicken and rice.
Service was so fast I barely had time to use the facilities and sit down before my enormous plate of food arrived. They did not skimp on the chicken in this dish, which swam in a tart n' spicy ginger/lemongrass-flavoured sea along with big hunks on onions and peppers.
Owing to the mid-afternoon lull, the shop wasn't too busy, but there are only two counters and one communal table for seats, so I can see how it would get crowded at peak times. The server was very friendly and she actually smiled while taking my order... by Vancouver service standards this was the equivalent of a lightning bolt striking. It was just nice.
Oh yes, and the prices are very reasonable - two can eat for about $20, and off real plates, too. Owners of other takeout joints should come here and take notes. -

I stood and waited a WHILE, then finally the cashier meandered out from the back to see what I needed. The noodles I got were really bland. Meh.

Like the name suggests... Thai Away Home is great for take out! Where else can you oh-so-conveniently take thai food home to enjoy in your own kitchen (or better yet, put it in your dishes, call people over, and then claim to have been the master chef behind it). Shhhhh... I've never done that.
It's fairly inexpensive to get food from here (almost as cheap as ordering sushi!). And the portions are decently sized. I love any of the coconut curries! Thai Away Home will definitely make you want to Thai Away Home more often! -

living in the bayarea, its quite obvious the options we have w/ Thai and for that matter, most ethnic food options is huge. my palette is used to the flavors i like at my Osha, Thep Phenom, or even King of Thai. so i was not too impressed here.
though the counter girl was cute. -

Their Pad Thai is excellent. The rest I've found just average esp. anything salad-like.
