Review from Tom B.
The prices are good. The people are really, really pleasant, friendly, and nice. The selection is great, from beautiful steaks through some appetizing-looking stew meat choices. All the best of my favorite food group is on display, with thoughtful editing making the most of the space available. It's not a small butcher's, but it's not exactly a supermarket.
I focused on two areas of great fascination for me. One, I know well already--salami. But they still managed to show me a lot of new things here, with french, gypsy, salsa, and other varieties I had never even heard of, much less tried. Smoky, sweet, spicy, winey, all wonderful flavors. They have a dozen and a half salamis to choose from.
The other thing was completely new to me, something I have always wanted to try: haggis. Fresh, scratch-made haggis, with no MSG, and a little card printed with cooking instructions, as well as a disclaimer warning that they take no responsibility for the improper use of haggis. I cannot wait to cook it later this week. Prices are good here, and the selection is certainly interesting enough to warrant many repeat visits. I couldn't love my local butcher down here in the States any more than I do, but Tenderland really doing special things that you don't see everywhere. -

What? Gluten free and hormone free sausages?! Wow, just gimme a lighter and I'll smoke one up right now.
Don't ever walk through the market hungry, I tell ya.
Locals all have their favourite shops they like to hit up, so just follow the flow and you won't fall into any tourist traps. Nasty things, those traps, they'll put runs in your stockings.
Great customer service, willing to answer your questions and not hurry you along for the next customer. -

Tenderland Meats is a Real Butcher Shop it offers good quality beef/lamb/chicken without all the Foodie/Green hype.
If you don't see what you want ask them. Tenderland has a Meat Locker behind the counter. Yesterday there was no Brisket in the Showcase so I asked and few minutes later a perfectly trimmed cut of brisket appeared in-font of me.
Tenderland also makes there own sliced oven roasted turkey which is unprocessed does not have that wet overwhelming salty taste that most store-bought cold cuts have. -

I ordered my Christmas bird from Tenderland. It came in on time, exactly as specified, and that 10-lb turkey fed the two of us for over a week, it was so meaty.
I can't believe I used to get a frozen turkey for Christmas every year. Why anyone would get a grocery store turkey when you can order fresh, organic, local, free range meat is (now) beyond me.
We also got bacon here - pricey but SO good, we can't go back to grocery store bacon either. -

Tenderland is my first choice for meats in Vancouver. Super duper numero uno!
Doing my rounds on my favourite island that isn't while gathering fare for my weekly Sunday culinary concoction, I always check here first and am most often satisfied. I think the only thing I've ever asked for that Tenderland didn't have was beef cheeks, but I've never been able to find them anywhere else either. They said they could order them, but I needed super duper red meat NOW, so I went for the chuck. Worked great for a good red wine braise. Yum.
The staff is always helpful and knowledgeable, quick and clean. They've been around for like forever also. Gotta say I like supporting the little guy who's grandfather founded the place. Yes. -

i'm freilich (had to call bubbie for this word) over this shoppe... Today we are celebrating Roshkippur with our two favorite jewish people. So I bet your asking what the eff roshkippur is? well it's past Rosh hashanah and not quit yom kippur. So what did we eat you ask? well we picked up the most amazing brisket at Tenderland located on Granville island. The butcher was very knowledgeable and wanted to make sure I had the best of the worst cut of meat. He gave me some tips on how to prepare the brisket, how much fat to leave on, and generally happy to let me know everything there was to know about this cut of meat.
Bubbies Brisket
1 can of coke
package onion soup mix
1/4 cup ketchup
lots of garlic poweder
salt and pepper
cook at 325 for three hours.

Q: Why on earth would someone never order lamb in a restaurant?
A: Tenderland Meats Marinated Rack of Lamb.
It just doesn't get better. So easy to do & the best in the city - and beyond. Treat yourself. They're around $30 a rack.
This is also the best place for bacon; my preference is the Gamon.

I will honestly say after a thorough search of Granville Island Market this place won for cheapest and best looking meats.
I got three beautiful thick cut bone in pork chops which were fabulous! I'm pretty impressed and next time I'm up making dinner for my bf I'm gonna get some veal cause it looked pretty tender and amazing. Can't wait! -

Mike and his crew are the best in the city. Expensive - not for everyday perhaps - but all of excellent quality. You won't be disappointed.

I relegate myself to eating meat about twice a month and in my snobbery I refuse to eat anything that isn't fresh enough to still be making sounds...whatever they may be. Tenderland Meats carries just this caliber of fresh, organic, free-range meats, in every variety you can imagine, lamb, beef, pork, duck, chicken, veal and buffalo, ground, quartered, chopped, marinated, kabab-ed and basted. Foi grois is next of my list of must-have luxuries and I will absolutely be purchasing it from Tenderland. Meatopia!

All meat-related witticisms aside, Tenderland Meats is lovely. Despite my meat-fearing, vegetarianism ways, I often come here when I want to make something for my boyfriend (I'm over tricking him into eating entirely vegetarian food). Ignorant to the difference between a tenderloin and, um, some other meat part, the staff is friendly, patient and always willing to answer my questions, no matter how inane.
