Review from DineoutGal A.

I usually go to a massage clinic for my massages but decided to join my sister for an afternoon at Ten Spa. I had the "head, neck, shoulders and back massage" ($100 for 50 mins). The male therapist that gave me the massage was amazing! Good pressure and technique - I was soooo relaxed.
As everyone says, try to be there at least 30-60 mins earlier than your appointment so you can enjoy the amenities. I was reading one of the other yelpers review about the snacks and how they change it three times a day. Well, I guess I must've been there there during the change over from muffins/oatmeal cookies to the pita bread/cucumber/cheese selection (that was close to 2 pm). They also had dried apricots, dates, and apples there along with water, tea and wine/champagne (for a fee). The muffins and the cookies were both of the healthy kind but very yummy. The pita slices were a bit salty but not too chewy so I enjoyed it. The cheese was a slightly hard cheese that had a good tang to it - couldn't figure out what it was though.
My sister ordered from their menu - there's 4 dishes, each $20. The selections are:
- poached chicken breast romaine lettuce with rice, cranberries and walnuts
- baby greens, asparagus, fennel, white truffle vinaigrette and salted ricotta
- poached shrimp salad with citrus vinaigrette
- smoked wild sockeye salmon, cucumber salad, creme fraiche and rye bread slices
It's spa food so I didn't really think it was going to be that good so luckily I didn't waste the $20. I tried the smoked salmon dish and there was a few slices of salmon on a huge bed of julienned cucumber slices (way too watery). The creme fraiche was just that and the rye bread slices were dry. I would pass and just eat the complimentary snacks instead. The champagne was okay...not bubbly enough so I don't know how long the bottle was open for but it was poured in a wine glass and filled right to the top (love that!).
The lounge area can be noisy so if you can, get the two seater that has the see through drapes surrounding you. It feels a little more private as we hung out and read magazines there. I also like that they heat the lounge room to a nice toasty temp so you don't feel cold sitting there in your robe.
The treatment room is a bit sterile looking and a little chilly compared to the warmth of the lounge. The massage chair is heated so that's nice. You can choose between an unscented or a lemongrass massage lotion - I opted for the unscented. But I have to say I loved the Japanese mint aromatherapy oil they used as part of the massage. It smelled like peppermint and provided a lovely cooling/tingly sensation on the skin. They also draped this warm cloth on my face during the second part of the massage....so relaxing. My therapist had great pressure and did a fab job, unlike my previous massage here was felt a little weak (but different therapists). After you're done, you can go to the quiet room in the back. I went there but it wasn't quiet! Some people were reading (odd place to do it as it was quite dim) and others were trying to whisper while they chatted so it was about as quiet as the lounge so I left.
The nice thing about this place is that you can hang out even after your treatment. Have some more snacks and read in the lounge or go to the steam room. Change rooms are maintained pretty good and well stocked with items.
Pros:
- lovely L'Occitane shampoo/body wash, conditioner and body lotion (all with shea butter) are available in the showers. my skin felt sooo soft afterwards.
- plenty of water and clean towels available
- staff were all nice and welcoming
Cons:
- booking reservations sucks here...I've called twice during the weekday and I've always been on hold waiting for the next available person for 10+ minutes. It doesn't feel like a high-end spa when I have to wait that long just to book an appointment.
- they seem to be obsessive about clearing away plates and cups in the lounge...it's a little distracting when someone comes around constantly asking if you're done with something but it's nice that they keep it clean.
- there's not a lot of lockers so sometimes you have to share (if you go with a friend/sister etc). that is a little annoying.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Review from Laura P.

If I could rate everything but the actual services, this would definitely be a five-star review. However, I find the services lacking a bit for the price you pay.
I've been to tenspa probably six or seven times now. Each time, I have a wonderful experience lounging around the beautiful waiting room, reading magazines, eating tasty snacks (often having a glass of bubbles, too!), and taking advantage of the steam room and fancy aromatherapy showers. Honestly, I've spent an entire day there. Long enough to know that they switch up the complimentary food three times a day! If you time it right, you can have the muffins/banana chips/dates from breakfast, the cheese cubes and pita crisps in the afternoon AND the do-it-yourself sushi snacks in the evening! Unless they've changed the menu in the last six months?
As far as services go, the haman is an experience worth trying. While I can't say I'd necessarily do it on my own again, it is something I would recommend doing at least once. Relaxing and unique. Can't say I'm a fan of the warm, salty goat's yogurt drink though. That was just weird.
The pedicures I've had are about average, but the chairs are comfy and the fluffy duvets are wonderful. I think I even fell asleep in the chair one time, I was so relaxed!
Their brazillian wax is expensive (comparatively= $80 vs approx. $60 most other places), and the results were only okay. Although the heated massage table made the usually unpleasant experience a bit better.
Ahhh those massage tables. I had a 90 minute massage here awhile ago, and it was heavenly. The mint (eucalyptus? I'm not sure which is was) scented heated towels added an extra touch, along with that warm table. Although again, I'm not sure the massage itself was worth what I paid.
In all, I think it's the extra touches that make tenspa worth a visit. If you're only concerned with the results of the services, I think there are many other spas/estheticians in Winnipeg doing just as good a (if not better) job. However, if you want a truly luxurious, relaxing experience, it's worth visiting tenspa. -

I gotta say it's the woman's locker room that keeps me coming back for more. Be sure to check in at least one hour before your appointment so you can take advantage of the facilities! The steam room is so warm and dark, it just the beginning of a wonderfully relaxed day! After the steam room there's a cooling off shower that has a light refreshing fragrance in the water. After you're cooled you make your way to the real shower where you can have a rainfall shower or your regular shower. The hair and body products the spa provides for you makes your hair and skin so soft and smelling beautifully.
I've gotten a few different types of treatments and I would suggest a facial, by far they have the best facials. They last 120 minutes and when you walk out of there, you're so relaxed and your skin feels and looks radiant!
The last couple of times I've gone to Ten Spa was pretty well just to take advantage of their facilities so I booked myself a pedicure. I don't think I'm too crazy about their pedicures. The pedicures feel great and last for 60 mins, but it's the polish they put on, it never seems like they've put on enough. I've had that problem twice now. Besides the pedicure issue, that's my only complaint.
When you're waiting for your treatment, you get to eat these super yummy goodies the spa has set out for the guests. They have really good cheeses, dried fruits and tea that's naturally sweet. And if your treatment is in the mornings, they have these really moist chewy oatmeal date cookies that seem like they should be healthy, but I'm sure nothing that tastes that good could ever be good for you. -

Toronto, ON
My overall rating is a 3
Overall it was okay and unfortunately my choices of treatments I wasn't too pleased with but it gave me a preview of what I might get and I suspect that it would be top notch.
CHANGEROOMS
- had all the amenities a woman could want
- showers had a glass closet to out robes and towels
- the experiental (not o be confused with experimental) steam room and mist shower was nice but I never got to try it because it was too crowded and did not want to sit in the room with 6 other people
- scarves are provided to cover your head or parts mostly for the hannam spa but could also be used for steam
LOUNGE
- this so called relaxation lounge was not relaxing at all - all the people in it were talking and I gained intimate knowledge of another girls wedding plans and how her cousin couldn't make it
- there is a smaller quieter lounge inside with huge day beds and blankets that's candle lit and quiet. I would love to have a choice to sit in there
- lots of food like cheese and crackers and dried fruits. CHampange and wine availble to order at around $7 a glass
TREATMENT ROOM
Looked like a hospital or clinic room. So sterile
- heated mattress and blanket when asked for it
LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE MASSAGE
I didn't know what to expect here as the description was very vague an when I booked this they didn't seem todescribe it very well. I wanted to try this.
I thought it would be a regular massage with special techniques to hit certain points and in he meantime my knots relived. I was wrong
They use glass suction cups and a machine to basically suck up the skin and activate stimulation. I didn't feel much just every skin in my body not covered by underwear being sucked up. Did it make a diference? I don't know. Did i feel relaxed? Yes was it like a massage? No
I had asked for a male thinking this was a traditional massage but there's really no need to specify for this as o don't think it makes a difference.
I kind of regret getting this and should have stuck with a regular massage. He had nice hands. 2 stars
LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE FACIAL
This I felt was worth it.
THey use higher end jurlique and phyto 5 products.
I got cleansed twice and a mask was put on to I crease stimulation, then another masked mixed in with it. Then she used auction cups again on my face and neck. I think it did make a difference and I feel cleansed. Another clay mask with some more moisturizer and serum.
I liked this one and felt it was worth it. 4 stars
STAFF
I was greeted by an unenthused girl who gave me a your of the place. I also signed a confirmation of my treatments. Which was good reassurance
- bookein over the phone they automatiaclly send you in iternary via email
- I noticed that in all the lounges hardly any were cleaned of dishes from the start to the end of mytreatments (2hr)
- when I wanted o know more about treatments but the girl just repeated it off the website andidnt give me any hints in the service decieved. -
Review from Jeff P.

I agree with other reviews - change room is great, waiting room is nice when it's not crowded, but the services I've had leave a little to be desired. Staff pushed products and more expensive services all 3 times I've been there. I've had better, less expensive pedicures elsewhere in the city.
