I love sushi. Over the years I've become pretty picky about where I eat...there are so many crap fast-food sushi spots and promising-looking restaurants serving ho-hum rolls.

Good thing I have friends who are sushi connoisseurs, scouring the city for high-quality spots and this is one of them. We went to Temaki last night and everything we ordered rocked: spider rolls, chef's roll, bluefin tuna cone, gomae, house salad with very tasty dressing, salmon sashimi (wild sockeye)...I will be back, making the trek from East Van.

Warning: it was packed when we arrived at 7:15 on a Friday - but we had resos. There was a long line-up the entire time we were there.

One of the very best Sushi places in Vancouver.

I am very picky when it comes to Sushi and this is my go to place.

    Great, great, great.

One of my favourite sushi joints in Vancouver. I used to be a regular there, but an amazing review in the Georgia Straight pretty much guaranteed regular lineups and a hike in the price of food.
Still, their sushi is AMAZING! Make sure you try the house salad (trust me on this one. The dressing is ri-DONK-culous!). Their gyoza is great and when it comes to specialty rolls, the  Chefs Roll is the bee's knees.
You'll most likely have to wait to get a seat, but the food AND service is worth it. GO!!!
Another option is ordering from their take out menu and enjoying your meal at home. Take out orders don't take more than 15 minutes to have ready :)

It's hard to stand out as a sushi restaurant around this area! This is the 3rd sushi restaurant in a 4 block radius that I have been to in the last couple weeks. I'm happy to report that I think I've now found my favourite - Temaki sushi is it.

It was busy for a Monday night, with people waiting for tables from at least 6:30 - 9pm (and it's a big place for a sushi restaurant). The service was fast (even maybe a bit too fast) and friendly.

Too bad I wasn't more hungry because I wish I could have tried more than just a chopped scallop and spicy tuna roll. Both of these were clearly fresh. The spicy tuna was amongst the best I have tried - this is saying a lot since I ALWAYS order it.

I would like to come back to try their non-sushi dishes. I guarantee I'll be back.

I had my first Temaki experience last night with my mom.

3 Stars: It's A-Ok as Yelp puts it.

The ingredients were fresh, but nothing out of this world. Quite ordinary for Vancouver, really.

One major complaint: the servers don't keep track of their tables and literally, within 1 minute, we had 5 different people stop by and try to refill our tea/water, ask us if we wanted to order anything else, etc etc. The interruptions became really annoying.

Temaki really isn't anything special. I'd rather go to Kadoya.

This place goes in my decent but above average catergory in terms of Japanese food. Located on the popular stretch on Broadway and Arbutus, we came here when every other place in town was packed.

The place is clean and bright, and it's a medium sized place. We waited a bit, and got seats right by the window.

Menu items are traditional Japanese items, with some specialty rolls. They also have some special sashimi of the day, including fresh uni, but we passed on that. We just wanted a simple dinner so we got an order of the sockeye salmon sashimi, Spider Roll, chicken karaage, and a dynamite roll.

Sashimi was fresh, spider roll was great (lots of avocado! crunchy soft shell crab!), chicken karaage pieces were huge, but a little too much batter, and the dynamite roll was good.

Service was attentive, and tea was always refilled. Considering its location and their prices, I would come back when I'm having that craving for sashimi, if I'm in the area, but not make the special trek to eat here.

I've eaten here once and just the other day made a take out order. I  was very happy with the presentation, size, quality, and overall tastiness.
I really enjoyed the Philly roll which was salmon, cream cheese and avocado- the portions of each ingredient was just perfect!
I think this would be my go-to in this area of town.
My friend also told me that they go to the fish market daily to buy fresh quality fish which is always a good sign.

Delicious.  I'm so lucky to have this in my work neighbourhood as an awesome lunch spot, even dinner if I end up working late.  Great lunch boxes, great quality, nice space, super friendly staff.

I can't really say anything bad about the place except that the bar hasn't got much leg room.  I keep hitting my knees on something under the counter.  Maybe I just need to somehow shorten my thighs and then I'd have no complaints at all...

    Yum.

With a friend in town from Ottawa wanting to have Japanese food, we had to bring her here.  The food quality at Temaki Sushi is excellent, and equal to the highest end restaurants at mid-range price.

The gommae was huge and delicious.  They also have some tasty and creative rolls.  We had the sunshine roll - topped with a curve of mango, and the chef's recommended dungeness roll was great.

As an aside, my friend lost her phone.  Returning there today, we are grateful that they right away had it for us, and even tried to use it to call (but battery was dead).  Thanks!

Living in Kitsilano, Temaki is our choice for excellent consistent quality, reasonably priced, Japanese food.

I love sushi and this place takes the wassabi. Conveniently located on Broadway and Arbutus, it has become my go-to. The Gomae is insatiable and the Tuna melts in your mouth.

I am ashamed to say it but I've been 4 times this week. Addiction? I think so.

As budget sushi bars go Temaki is decent.  Got to sample a nice variety of their offerings today including bincho tuna and salmon sashimi (the bincho was quite buttery, and the salmon was very fresh).  These were the highlight of the meal.

In the sushi set they included a dynamite roll.  I have to say I'm not normally a fan of these types of concocted rolls, but comparing to ones I have had elsewhere this one was a step below.  The tempura ebi was overly greasy and quite cold. It just didn't work for me (even more so than it normally wouldn't).

The scallop roll was presented as gunkanmaki that was perfectly presented, although the scallops had been overly covered in mayo.  So it looked excellent and tasted just ok.

The sushi rice overall had a bit too much vinegar and sugar - just a bit over the edge of where it really should be.

The chicken karaage had a breading that resembled what they use at many fish and chip shops.  It was WAAAY too thick.  Not a winning dish.

Overall in the budget sushi space many of the competitors are crappy.  But Temaki is better than many.  But I still think the quality and care at Ki-Isu:  http://www.yelp.ca/biz... is a notch above this.

But if in the area I would consider a return visit to Temaki, as I long as I stick to the fish and not the kitchen items.  I would also make sure to stick to the sashimi, nigiri, and simple rolls.

We stopped in Temaki sushi for lunch and ordered lunch menu special. We got chicken teriyaki, salad, california roll, gyoza. It was yummy and we enjoyed our meal.
Price is good and service as well.
    We will return there :)

This is a solid "cheap" (for sushi) Japanese restaurant.  I've only ever gotten take-out so I can't say anything about the service.

The fish is fresh and I don't have any qualms about eating raw fish there.

The menu isn't huge and it is fairly standard.  I avoid any rolls with sauce (e.g. spicy tuna or scallop and surprisingly negitoro) b/c they tend to be drowning in sauce or mayo.  However, the sushi and sashimi are good and very reasonably priced.

Great sushi in Kits.  The staff are very quick and efficient, from seating to order taking to bringing the bill.  Sushi chefs are personable and friendly.  Fish quality is great.  Nice and fresh, well cut, simply presented.  Prices are quite reasonable (same level as Toshi, Zipang).  Place is pretty busy for weekday lunch from the nearby businesses and the schools (lots of uniformed kids lined up for take-out).

I don't know what their cooked food is like as my sushi focus is always on sashimi, nigiri and maki.  Never been disappointed here.

    Cheap meals, decent sushi.

Everything I tried on the sashimi and nigiri side (Tuna, salmon, urchin, and eel) was very good and fresh. I found it odd that they didn't allow me to order 4 sashimi of the chef's choice, they told me I could only order specific pieces; every other place I've been to I enjoy letting the chef choose exciting and different pieces for me.

The teriyaki chicken was average, with uneven saucing making some pieces nothing more than heavily fried chicken. Tempura was excellent with the welcome addition of squash. For some odd reason wasabi was never included and was sorely missed. Green tea ice cream at the end was generous enough to be shared by two, and was tasty.

I get the feeling Temaki's clientelle favours the heavily sauced, mayonnaise-y dishes that have a broader appeal in the West, as there seemed to be less focus on perfect, fresh seafood, and more on rolls, etc.  While Temaki is a very good option for the budget-conscious and average sushi-eater, those who prefer traditional sushi and letting the seafood speak for itself should look elsewhere.

I was very impressed with this place.  Many of the rolls that are considered custom or specialty (and charged accordingly) at others are on the main roll menu and much more economically priced, and the Chef's suggestion menu is full of really great goodies.  I recommend the Red Dragon Roll- SO good.  The presentation was very good- presentation is definitely something that one doesn't get very often anymore (or they think 'presentation' means to squiggle 10 lbs. of sauces all over your rolls).  Everything is very good, well priced, well presented, tastes delicious and fresh and to boot- the service is good!

Well, it must be nice to have such a great business that you can be incredibly rude to your customers and not worry about losing them.

A recent call to order some food for take out was greeted with what can only be described as irritation by the person answering the phone.  I don't mind being put on hold when they're busy, or being asked to repeat my order several times, but when the tone is one of irritation and rudeness I get turned off at best.

When I did show up to actually pick up my order, they had somehow "lost" it and hadn't started prepaing it, which meant waiting an additional 20 minutes.  Hovering out of the way of the door near the cash, as much as possible, I was told "Sit down and wait".  I politely explained that all the seats were taken and I was trying to stay out of the way.
To this I was given a grunt of disapproval.

When I finally received my order, I asked a confirmation question since they had previously made mistakes on my order, and was told absolutely this item was included.  I paid (I even tip a few dollars each time on take out orders), got home, and lo and behold, discovered two problems.

First of all, one item was missing entirely, and secondly the tempura sauce tucked inside the box with the tempura had opened and all of the tempura was a soggy mess.

I called, and was greeted with disbelief, virtually accused of lying, and asked to come back to the restaurant with my order to "prove it".  At the end of a long day, the last thing I want to do is go out again after already being later than intended to show someone they made a mistake.  I would have been happy had they said they would make an adjustment next time.

There's lots of sushi places in my neighborhood, and I'll make sure this is one I never return to.  The food was always half decent, the price very reasonable, but I can't stomach rudeness and accusatory behaviour when I raise a problem.

Temaki - I hope that you don't treat all your customers in this manner, or soon you won't have any issue finding seats for people or problem answering the phone....
