We headed over to the Telus World of Science Center to check out the Titanic Exhibit. The tickets were EXPENSIVE and you don't get to eat or take any pictures  (except in the costume booth).

Before we entered the exhibit, we were handed boarding passes - replicas of actual boarding passes of people who boarded the Titanic. Tonight I was Mrs. Nils Palsson - a married woman with four children sailing from Southampton. I was 29 years old and from Bjuv, Sweden! I had a third class ticket and was heading to Chicago to meet up with my husband. My Darling was Mr. Richard Norris William II, an accomplished tennis player who had plans to take part in tournaments in the States before heading off to Harvard University. He was returning home to Pennsylvania from Geneva, Switzerland. My Darling, of course, was a first-class ticket holder. Whoo hoo! I'm a peasant fraternizing with the upper class!

As we were exploring the exhibit, Mr. Williams adopted a British accent and a very snotty attitude! LOL There was a lot of neat things that they recovered from the ship, including paper money and photographs! How in the world did the paper manage to survive such murky conditions!!?? One of my favorite sections was the restaurant and food section, where the original dinnerware was displayed. The original menu for each classes was presented as well. Ew.....boiled potatoes for third class??!! I'm glad I'm with a first class gent! Yum....lamb in mint sauce and chocolate eclairs for dessert....

I actually really enjoyed the Titanic exhibit. I loved examining all the relics and reading the back stories of the passengers. It's insane how they were able to recover and restore the artifacts from the Titanic, bringing an unbelievable tragedy into the light of a harsh reality. At the end of the exhibit, I discovered that my alter ego - Mrs. Palsson - died  bu...... Mr. Williams, however, survives  If you get a chance, definitely check out the exhibit. It's a wonderful display of our history, showcasing our accomplishments in technology and human spirit.

This has been one of my favorite places since childhood. I remember when it was called the "Planetarium" and even when it was called "the Calgary Science Centre".
I have always enjoyed the interactive, hands-on exhibits. Also, this centre has a very interesting style about it, sort of 'whimsical'. The admission price is reasonable considering that often, we're paying for a show in the Dome Theatre. Now, those are always interesting ;)

However, it breaks my heart that this beloved Calgary landmark will soon be moving due to C-Train construction. I may check out the new location when it opens, just out of curiosity.

Saw Gunther Von Hagens' Body Worlds exhibit this past Saturday. Wow! This is a must see for anyone interested in anatomy. It's presented in a way that is not gory. In fact, it reminded me of Leonardo da Vinci drawings. We purchased extra tickets for the film which seemed to kind of tie everything we had seen in the exhibit together. Very well done and appealing to many age groups.

We purchased our tickets on line, for the 9:30am showing, to avoid any lines but when we got the Science Centre there was a line to get into the exhibit anyway. I'm sure as time goes on the exhibit will be less busy.

We didn't realize we'd have to pay for parking. Luckily, we had some loonies and twoonies on us. Unfortunately, there was a line to buy the parking pass as well. Most people seemed pretty confused on how to operate the parking pass machine.

If you haven't heard yet, then you MUST live under a rock. Telus World Of Science is presenting Gunther Von Hagens' Body Worlds exhibit starting tomorrow.

I'm super excited about it so I went to go purchase some tickets.
Yeeeaah.... did NOT get a good first impression.

All I wanted to do was run in, buy some tickets and run out, but I saw it going very differently in my mind than it actually did.

First of all, when you walk in, the science centre is nothing to write home about. It looks less than impressive, is pretty tiny, and right now it is under construction so it is a total gong show.

Secondly, it took them 40 minutes to get me my tickets. I wish I was joking. I understand that things were disarray because of the construction, but when someone wants to give you a couple hundred dollars worth of sales, you FIND a way to help them...and fast!

Their printer wasn't working, or something, and at one point there were 4 different people, all standing there, trying to figure out how to print the tickets I had purchased. In my mind I was totally doing that thing where you ask "How many people does it take to, in this case, print tickets?"

Finally the manager took me over to his office where he had someone else print the tickets for me. So I did end up getting them and I finally did end up getting outta there.

Hopefully my experience at the exhibit is a whole lot better. We're not off to a good start, but I'll definitely keep you posted.

The TELUS World of Science used to be known as the Calgary Science Centre. Right across from Millennium Park, the Science Centre offers some of the most fun kids can have in our city. Interactive displays featuring everything from biology, to astronomy, this place has it all.

Their offer a huge planetarium, interpretive tours, and guided programs. Schools partake in many trips to the place. Professionals in the field work here, not hacks. And they do have answers...real ones...scientific ones.

The place doesn't even cost that much. So for a family outing, there are few places as appealing as the Science Centre. They change their displays frequently and always have new and exciting things to check out.

Whether you're kid or an adult, you might want to visit this place at least once. It is pretty cool.

Okay, admittedly for a city the size of Calgary the TELUS World of Science is a little small but there is still a better-then-okay time to be had there. It's a great way to spend an afternoon with the niece (son, daughter, nephew, et cetera) and it doesn't cost much more then a movie but provides better entertainment for child and guardian alike. The temporary exhibits can cover subjects from satellites to Bob the Builder (the former being maybe a bit more palatable to the grown-up companions) simply call ahead or check the website to see what the exhibits are before going to avoid any cartoon character related exhibits and you should be fine. I would suggest packing a lunch or at least some juice boxes since like most museum-type establishments in North America any food that might be found on site is both expensive and kinda' nasty (astronaut ice-cream excluded).
