What an absolutely great place to find really fantastic prints and lithographs of poster art and the like done on beautiful paper and framed to your liking. Just super cool gig posters that I want to wallpaper my home with all of which can be previewed on their website. It's also a gallery and they are currently running an exhibition for the Contact Photography Fest featuring photographer Steve Evans' fantastically narrative depictions of some of the interesting local residents of the Ottawa Valley taken in the late 80s. It's sort of a Diane Arbus portraiture collection and It is a treat to see the real photos as apparently, the actual photos were never shown publicly and went straight to publication in his book Heart and Soul. Check it out 'cause I think they're only there until the ends of May when the fest ends.
Go here, it's a gem! -

This place is great! Normally when you think of a framing place it is uptight, the place where your grandma would want to frame her cross stichin of a dog. This place is nothing like that. Very relaxed, friendly staff and fun.
The prints they have on display are for purchase. Note that some of the stuff you see the prices do not include the cost of the frame.
I did see a beautiful Frank Lloyd Wright ad that I really wanted to take home.
I know I will be back. I have an Elvis Costello print done in Warhol-style that I want framed. -

so i just felt pretty excited walking into this store, you know, like an all round five star experience. most if not all the walls here are exposed brick and attached to them from top to bottom are many different prints with a focus on graphic posters. the way it works is that a particular design was created for a show or a concert lets say, and then once it had been disseminated on cheaper paper that was thrown up around the city, (not necessarily this city) it was reprinted at about 300 copies on greater quality paper and with greater quality inks. each print is certified both on the paper itself as number x of 300 as well as being accompanied by information provided as to its creation and history.
the price of the items depends on several things. firstly framed versus not framed. surely not framed is cheaper, but if for some reason you cannot/ dont want to get it framed here (its also a framing shop) they highly recommend that you frame it where ever you prefer. it should be treated with the same delicacy as a painting for the reason that just as much work goes into it if not more; its value is gauged based on the quality of materials used, the machinery used to create them, and the personal attention devoted to its creation versus simply being done by machine alone.
many of these prints are created with antique printing presses that no longer are used on a daily basis for commercial printing for the reasons that every other handmade experience was dumped in the toilet - bigger, faster, cheaper. well the vibrant colours and detail that is brought to fruition upon these archival papers are so festive and delightful.
theres a whole line of prints they have of gigs for bands like wilco, broken social scene or the stars for example. they also feature works from artists both currently working and from collections.
depending on the rarity of your choice of print, the method used to create it, and any number of other factors you could spend less than a hundred for a framed piece and upwards of four hundred lets say.
you can expect to plan the details of it out with the proprietor who was busy working away with customers as we were perusing the goods.
its really worth popping in for the artwork. it has a way of reminding you that there are lovely inspiring images being created around you all the time that you can celebrate in your own home and have last for a long time.
