OK, so I love salads!
Ted's have salads WOO WOO. Check this out, a small salad is less then 5 bucks. I added roasted turkey and avocado which took the total to a little over 7 bucks. FRESH and Large! I'd hate to see what a large salad would be like. Guess I'll have to finish it tonight because there is no way in life I can finish it for lunch!
My only regret is that I didn't get there earlier. Got there at 12:45 was out by 12:48 not so bad, considering there were about fifteen people ahead of me. Those ladies are friendly and talkative but they get you in and out.
WHO NEEDS OR WANTS SUBWAY? I NEVER DO. Now there's Ted's in my life. This is my new sandwich/salad spot.
See you there! -

I work around the corner at 12th & Folsom and Ted's is my GO TO for breakfast sandwiches or lunch! The staff is delightful and always remember my coworkers and I. Their sandwiches are reasonably priced and HUGE! i definitely recommend a BLT-A and their breakfast sandwiches.
Always busy at lunch so I suggest faxing in your order so you don't ahve to wait on the entire line. Yum yum! -

Why would anyone even want to spell subway or mcdonalds after you've been here. The prices are ridiculous, and quality is absurd. I just a few blocks away the choices for lunch are either strangely expensive salads, bad service cafe's, and fast food that will not make you so fast.
A coworker told me about this place, and I haven't stopped going. MWF they have cooked tri-tip sandwiches that are top notch. I ordered a pastrami sandwich and for one reason or another, it had bacon it. I'm pretty sure this was a mistake, but a mistake that I dream about from time to time.
The only down side for me is that it's not such a secret, although it's a good thing for this institution. Get there before or at 12 on the dot, and the line should be shorter. -

There is nothing - and I mean nothing - I would rather eat than a sandwich. And Ted's has the absolute best in the city. There are not enough superlatives to describe the wonder that is Ted's. This is a true East Coast deli with fantastically boisterous staff to match. If you work in the area or even if you live miles away, it's absolutely worth the trek down to SoMa. Oh, and do yourself a favor by ordering a side of mac and cheese. My mouth is watering as I think about it. LOVE YOU TED'S!

Ted's is a life-saver! I mean that both literally and figuratively.
This is my go-to stop for those weekends when my fridge is nearly empty (save for beer &bacon of course), I'm too weak from hunger to cook bacon, and I'm too lazy to change out of my PJs to get food. No, Ted's don't care!
They have a variety of sandwiches; you can choose the bread, meat, etc deli style or you can get one of their hot specialties. I usually get either the rosemary or caribbean chicken on dutch crunch. &for about $6 a pop, their sandwiches are pretty big!
I usually eat half, and save half for dinner.
&in the figurative sense, Ted's is a convenience store so they have an ATM and sell random things like candles! so you can imagine these items being a life-saver on special occasions ;) -

Great sandwiches! Always fresh bread. Sometimes the line is long but it moves pretty quickly. The customer service is also a plus, the register guy is always smiling and very friendly.

I have nearly tried everything on this menu since moving into the City in November.
Pastrami on Rye.
Rich Boy
Poor Boy
Salmon Fillet.
Rosemary Roast Chicken.
These are a few of my favorite things!
But EVERYTHING is great!
If you're a local or for work, best thing to do is FAX your order in. -

The best time to go is at 10:30. You beat the lunch rush and all the hot meats are fresh. I had such an awesome tri tip sandwich because i got there early and the lady picked out nice pieces from the hot bin from me. I saw her take the bottom, juicier pieces out and I could really tell the difference between that and a sandwich I'd get at around 1:30 here.
Go early, go meaty, leave happy.Listed in: Epic Pastrami List, By the Central Freeway, San Francisco Pastrami

San Francisco, CA
who gets a chicken sandwich at a sandwich place?
wait . . . that'd makes totally sense for this review
. . . forget that I asked.
One of my lunch buddies asked how I'd rate this place and when I said I'd give it a three, he nearly lost his mind:
- How can Ted's only get three stars?!?!
- They stuff the sandwich a mile high and for the price, you 'd be hard pressed to find a such quality sandwich.
Totally valid points.
But here's the thing:
I've have better.
- are "that's what she said" jokes still funny?
Anyways:
The salmon is pretty tasty
and they have a good selection of chicken sandwiches: Caribbean, Mediterranean, rosemary garlic, and chicken parm.
I'd suggest the rosemary garlic on a whole wheat roll, Swiss cheese, and trying pesto instead of mustard,
Remember to go early to avoid the lines. -

Stopped here for some sub style sammies. The meatball was solid. Their Italian was good. The meat on all the sandwiches was great. Also got a turkey with bacon and avocado. They did not skimp on anything. Fast and friendly. We will be back.

I have been to Ted's about 4 times now.
It is a GREAT sandwich store; they are cheap (4~6 dollars), come in great portion and delicious. Their selections are great as well.
This is probably one of the best sandwich places to try in SF, not just for bang for the buck, but for how good the sandwich actually is.
So if you have time and happened to be in the area, definitely give this place a shot, you won't regret it.
I haven't tried Naked Lunch's fried chicken sandwich yet but i know this will be interesting to see. -

Looks like a hole in the wall place, yet you'll be able to tell by the long line at lunchtime that they can make a good sandwich. The staff is very friendly, and they are fast and efficient so the wait in line is never that long. I like that they have a big selection of sandwiches including lots of vegetarian and vegan options. Not sure if I can think of another hole in the wall sandwich place that has vegan salami on the menu. 3 stars cuz it smelled like dirty hippies.

No fuss. Plenty of frills.
Confirmed not once but twice Ted's has some of the best sandwiches in SoMa. Perhaps in all of the city.
Grilled chicken came first. Plenty of meat. Built with veggies as requested. Wheat roll with oats as if they carried it just for me. Only five bucks. Awesome.
On my way out I saw it. Rarely scene on menus. Had to come back.
Vegan salami was round two. Same as the above only with this fake version of slices goodness. Oh was it good. And also five bucks.
Want something else? There are so many sandwiches and salads to choose from. You won't go away hungry or poor. And in fact you might just find yourself coming back again and again.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Maybe it just wasnt the right place to order a cucumber sandwich. BUT it was on the menu, so it shouldve been good? I was thinking more of the british tea time cucumber sandwich, but this was just thick cucumbers and cream cheese on bread. i was sad, but hungry so i ate it. i felt like she didnt care about making my sandwich, i didnt taste any love.

I was attending a training on Howard st and was ready to give up on finding food, when I stumbled upon Ted's.
I had no idea it existed, but from the looks of the long line at the deli counter, I was at the right place. Ted's is the perfect lunch spot for anyone. From salads to sandwiches and meatless options, you will find something here to fill you up.
I ordered a pulled pork sandwich for $5.25 and it was massive. I had to save half for later. The flavors were a little different (less BBQ style and more spices that are reminiscent of the middle eastern cuisine?), but still very tasty. I was kinda bummed that there was no good outdoor seating nearby to enjoy my 'which. Regardless of the seating situation, I cannot think of a reason not to try Ted's again. -

I LOVE this place. I live around the corner (lucky me) and have been coming in here a few times a week for over 5 years. I can stumble in here on a weekend afternoon and they usually know what sandwich I want without me actually having to say anything... just "the usual". I love that about this place.
Catering is really good and really well priced. I ordered a whole bunch of stuff for a Friday lunch at work and made the mistake of thinking I could walk to muni with it. The owner was in there and was kind enough to drive me and my food to work which was only about 5 blocks away....now that's customer service my friends. Next time I will pay for the delivery service.
On a negative note. There is a newer Aisan girl that works behind the sandwich counter and she sucks big time. I will literally observe the line and try to time it so she doen't make my sandwich. She does a sloppy job and wears a horrible scowl the entire time. I ordred a teds one hungover morning and the cheese was half hanging off and not melted....wtf?????
Everyone else who works there is awesome.
Go here, you won't be sorry*
*****i feel i should amend my review becasuse the last time the newer Aisan girl (don't know her name) made my sandwich she wasn't as rude as before my sandwich was made with more care. She still wasn't friendly, so the comment about her stays until she's consistently nice and does a good job. -

Fantastic variety, and very high quality!
As others have mentioned, there are often looonnnng lines around lunchtime. Faxing in an order seems to help, but sometimes they're so busy that they aren't able to get to faxed orders in time (but they have expedited my faxed orders if I've showed up and my order wasn't prepared yet).
Highly recommended if you are in the area. -

i think the 4.5-star rating here is more because of the value and not the quality. i've had way better sandwiches in sf (not that this was bad), but its' hard to get this quality of a sandwich for $6, so props to that.

Ted's makes a great breakfast sandwiches.I worked in walking distance to the deli for about 8 years and would go there at least 2 or 3 times a week to get sandwiches.
I have also had take out food for a group of 10 or 12 people and they did a great job preparing the food.Great place to get sandwiches for the money. -

While playing half day hookie from work one day we decided to stop by Ted's & pick up sandwiches to sneak into our movie. (This is now tradition, no more movie food, other than popcorn for me!) Fortunately for us, there was no line.
This is definitely one of those amazing shops that I have to thank Yelp for. I would have never thought to wander into this place, you'd never think that inside is this remarkable deli that serves awesome sandwiches.
What we ordered:
Ted's Roast Turkey
The Italian
Both were huge and fresh and absolutely delicious. It's no wonder the line is out the door! -

Long lines at lunch -- so best avoid them. Otherwise, yummy sandwiches just the way i like them! Try their specials whenever you get the chance.
Mini-mart prices are a bit high, but par for course for your mom & pop convenience store. -

Ted's is a legend in the SOMA area. They have amazing hot and cold deli sandwiches for lunch at reasonable prices. I highly recommend their Chicken Pesto panini, it is to die for. I would also suggest getting there no later than 11:30 to beat the lunch crowd. Otherwise, prepare to gird your loins and tussle with the masses to get your delicious sandwich (I kid I kid!!). Don't fax in an order as they may either run out of their special or will not have received your order. Better to go in person!

I love Teds! I am never ever disappointed and I go there just about every day either for a quick snack or to get lunch.
SUPER long lines during lunch. They're just THAT good. You can fax in your order 30 minutes ahead of time & skip the lines. :)
Staff is extremely friendly and they remember who you are. They are quick, helpful, and honest. Sandwiches are so good and fresh, salads too. Variety of options everyday. Tacos on Wednesdays! Different kinds of soups.. love love love!
I love their clam chowder, especially on cold days, paired with a salad or roast beef sandwich! -

Ted's, like a lot of neighborhood delis around here, is great ... The meat is fresh and sandwich can be made to your liking and staff is very friendly and quick..
I been here a hand full of times being I live right around the corner.. The hummus burritos are great, BLT, turkey club and others... Lots of drinks and snacks to pick as a side with fruits and salads as well..
Again its not gourmet but its quick, good, cheap, and served with a smile . Simple and sweet. -

I simply have to let my friends know about this place. The meats are incredible, the prices fair, and pretty much anything you eat here will be tasty, fairly priced, and served with a smile.
I eat egg and tuna salad here, which is saying a lot because I never eat mayo based salads anywhere.
Also the catering is great and fairly priced.
Amazing place. -

Note: Deli closes at 4:30 [as in the make-age of sandwiches]
Came here while me and a friend were waiting in line [almost 4 hours!] for Bruno Mars tix @ Slim's. I was really excited to order a sandwich...alas, the deli part closes at 430. I did notice they have an awesome selection of snacks and drinks--MX cokes? Make with real sugar and NOT HFCS? WIN.
I grabbed a pre-made turkey sandwich. Was bummed that I could find one on wheat/without mayo, but whatevs. It was good, but not phenomenal. Sad. I'm hoping it would have been a better sammie experience had I made it before the deli closed.
~$9 for a pre-made turkey sandwich and 2 cokes

Just came back from a long overdue visit to Ted's Market. You know what happened?

This is a highly popular to-go sandwich shop in the SOMA. Great prices and a huge selection. I often crave piroshkis and this is the only place that I can get one in the area. The only reason that I didn't give it 4 stars is that at lunch time it has taken upwards of 30-40 min to get through their line which wraps entirely around the store and out the door.

Review from Martin W.

Attention, attention! Major trend wave cresting in the Bay Area: sandwiches. And like most of these trends, long-established places get overlooked in favor of the newbies. Why? I have no fucking idea. Lunch Geek, Ike's, Bake Sale Betty's... good places, but expensive and not good enough for out-the-door lines. The blackhole-magnetism of new food fetishism frankly astounds me.
But, whatever. Cupcakes, "artisan" ice cream, Belgian ale, small batch bourbon, skinny jeans, oversized vanity spectacles... trends confuse me and I steer clear.
Hi, I'm Martin, and my overt display of style is to visibly reject style. It's obviously working out great because nobody wants to have sex with me.
Ooooops, digression.
Let's get back to Ted's and their damn good sandwiches. Well priced? Got it, all are around $5, from tri-tip to liverwurst to chicken breast to tuna salad. Vegetarian options? Cucumber, cream cheese, and sprouts? Veggie burger? Yeah, those are on the menu (and they are less expensive than the meat-a-wiches, which I consider a kindness to the vegetarian crowd, which ordinarily takes it up the keister from the likes of Cafe Gratitude and Cha-Ya).
My typical buy is the rosemary-garlic chicken breast, Dutch crunch, and all the veggie/condiment-y crap they can muster (and it's a fairly expansive list). $4.75 for this selection and it's a good-sized lunch. I don't come away stuffed, but I also don't start trying to figure out where the next meal is going to come from the second that I gobble down the last of a sand-o from Ted's.
There really isn't much more to say--Ted's is one of the few eateries in my work 'hood that is empirically and absolutely good. No qualifiers about "comparatively this" or "relative to blah blah" that. Irregardless of the competition (or lack thereof, in this case), Ted's makes a good sandwich.
(four stars because Genova's is a five star deli, ). -

I've been giving away a lot of 5 star reviews lately which means that I have been really lucky in my eating and my adventuring and I am catching up on reviews that I have been meaning to write for a long time.
My buddy/office partner gave me a half sandwich from Ted's yesterday. I had already eaten a bowl of noodles and was not hungry. However when I got back to the office there was a huge mound of white paper right next to my computer. I asked him "Whats this?" He said "That's the other half of my sandwich, I got it at Teds, I can't eat that much." I said "Too bad, because I just ate."
But I couldn't just let that sandwich go to waste, so I thought to myself, "I'll just have a bite..." Well one bite turned into me devouring the entire half of a sandwich. I think that a Ted's half sandwich is a meal in it's own right. And tasty, boy was it tasty. It was the Turkey and it was awesome. Within the period of one hour I had a bowl of noodles and half a Teds sandwich. I didn't eat for the rest of the day.
I had been meaning to try this place for sometime and now understand what all the hype is about. -

My son attends the San Francisco Conservatory and I was looking for some catering for his Senior Recital. I knew I would be feeding a lot of hungry students, but was on a budget, so I poked around on Yelp and found Ted's Market which was very close to the school and had excellent reviews.
I told my son that I thought Ted's Market might be good for catering and he told me that Ted's was already a favorite sandwich shop amongst Conservatory students. He was so excited to have them cater the event, he advertised that Ted's was doing the catering on his recital flier.
Ted's is a busy place, so you'll have to make sure to call in the afternoon when their lunch crowd has died down. I worked with Claudia who was really wonderful and helped me with suggestions. On the day of the recital, I went to pick up the food and was really surprised at the generous portions. My son probably had about 75 people at the recital and there were even a few sandwiches left at the end. I only ordered "finger food" (various sandwiches, lavosh, veggie trays, fruit trays, and a dessert plate) and the whole thing only cost $350! Not only that, but because of the large quantity I had ordered, Ted's also threw in the compostable dinner ware. Great food, great service, great prices. How can you beat this?
All I had to provide were chips and drinks. It made my life so easy.
Many of my son's friends came up to me afterwards and thanked me for the great food. THANK YOU, TED'S, FOR HELPING MAKE THIS A MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE! -

I don't know what it is about Ted's, but it's a damn good place to get lunch.
From sandwiches, to salads to soups/chilli/mac&cheese(!) Fred's will have you coming back for more. Here, you'll get some delish comfort food, but be prepared for the food coma that will inevitably follow. -

I've been coming to this place for 3+ years now as my office relocated around the corner. Best thing that ever happened! This place is the bomb. They make great, made to order, sandwiches with fresh ingredients. Yes the line gets long around 12, but it's worth the wait. Ever heard of a two day sandwich? They make 'em here. BEST PASTRAMI EVER!! Other deli items also rock, like the meatloaf, hummus, etc. They have a few great breakfast items too (Like the Ted's McMuffin and the BLT), and serve great coffee for half the price of a cafe. They've even lowered some prices lately. The staff are super cool, very friendly and helpful. Best thing in SOMA. Ted's Rocks!
