Seriously excellent char-broiled hot dogs. You can't go wrong with really anything on the menu. I usually get two regulars, one with everything (pickle, relish, onion, mustard, ketchup, hot sauce), and one with chili & onion.  The chili is thick with meat, no beans, and is very mild - almost like a bolognese. (I jokingly refer to it as hot dog bolognese).

Two hot dogs is filling enough, that although the fries are good and the rings are better (breaded in cracker and deep-fried), I seldom, if ever, order them. The kid's meal comes with a tiny fries, a smaller hot dog, a temporary tattoo, a drink, and a hat. Burgers are also char-broiled and quite excellent, albeit a bit too thin.

My friend talked me into having dinner here on our way to Bristol Mountain. Let me start by saying I don't usually eat hotdogs so I wasn't thrilled about dining here. The minute we walked through the door my entire attitude changed. The charcoal smell immediately caught my attention. This hot dog was going to be different.

I ordered a regular hotdog with hot sauce, relish and onions, onion rings and a Loganberry shake. The hotdog had a nice snap to it when I took my first bite. It was larger than a normal hotdog so one was plenty. For me the dog was just OK. I really enjoyed the onion rings. The portion size was big and the rings were unique. I also really liked the Loganberry shake. It was refreshing and not too filling as the shake was on the smaller side.

I am glad I took my friend's advice and that we stopped at Ted's. From a girl who doesn't like hotdogs all that much I recommend dining here.

We drove about five hours to get here, and I was really looking forward to this, because I really love hot dogs. I was dissapointed. For all the talk about the charcoal grill, the resulting dog was not especially flavorful, there was no charring or other indication that it was cooked over a grill. The grill was right in front of my face, they cook them right in front of you, it just did not look, sound, or smell like a charcoal grill. It didn't look much differenent than any other grill from any other fast food place. It tasted OK (I had the Jumbo all beef), and my son said his footlong was good, though the chili on it did not have much to it. He agrees with a previous reviewer who said it was a little too much like ketchup. The onion rings were great. The staff was very friendly and very efficient.

I have a hard time believing an establishment takes it's hot dogs seriously if they don't bother to grill the bun. The bun is extemely important. When you take a bite of a hot dog, most of what is in your mouth is bun and toppings. When it's presented to you, most of what you see is bun. Depending on condiments, you might only see a little bit of the dog sticking out at either end.  When I bring that dog up to my face, and I get a whiff of that toasted bread mingling with the smell from the mustard and the greasy smell of that dog, my mouth starts to water! The toasted bun smell changes the whole experience. If you take pride in your hot dog, I can't believe you would just stick it in a piece of white bread. What a waste.

Today was my first time visiting a Ted's, my first impression as I walked in the door was that everyone must love this place! As I looked around - the dinning room was full of a verity of people from old to young, police men to business men, hobo looking to rich snobs.  Still they all looked pretty happy together with their over piled trays of food.
The customer service was great! I felt like I was the most important part of the business with the way I was greeted, to the moment I walked out the door. The prices were not cheap but not too much. The hot dogs were your typical hot dog. (most would probably say they are amazing but I'm kind of a hot dog snob, only all beef nathans, hebrew nationals, or sebretts are what I consider awesome so far). The fries though?.... ooooo the fries! They were wonderful!!! I love the fact that they wait till you order them to make them so they are good and fresh.

I have to say, I feel a little funny clicking the "good for kids" button when it comes to Ted's, because this place serves up fried food dripping with grease and meat of questionable origin, packed into patties or shoved into sausage casings -- with a choice of sugary soda or calorie-packed milkshakes on the side. There is nothing that actually does a body good here at Ted's.

But, if we're looking at Ted's Hot Dogs through the sepia-toned lens of America's pre-diabetes days, as I prefer to do, then hell to the yes, this place is great for kids. Everything tastes good and can be eaten with your hands, no one cares if you shout or make a mess, and the prize ain't no action figure -- it's just the G.D. delicious food.

And if you are a consenting adult who knows what you're getting into, even better. Do not leave the area without trying their onion rings and a foot-long, with a Loganberry and maybe a milkshake for good measure. Mmm.

Before I say anything else I must say that Ted's has the very best onion rings in the whole wide world!

I went yesterday for a late lunch (or was it an early dinner?) with one of my favorite dining companions and we had "the usual": a dog apiece and an order each of fries and onion rings to share. The hot dog (Salen's, I think) was perfectly cooked over charcoal and I had it as I always do, a little on the well done side with everything (and extra pickles...I really like Ted's kinda wilted pickles). The hot sauce here is just perfect... a little tomato-y... and little vinegar-y... and with the perfect kick. The fries were thin and crisp and not too salty. But, the reason I come here time and again is for the onion rings. They are simply AMAZING! Made fresh.... not battery or bready, but crunchy. Not perfect circles, but a curly, tangled mess of deliciousness. I've never had anything quite like them!

Oh, and they also have good burgers and REAL milkshakes. But, if you go (or rather WHEN you go) you MUST have those rings!

I went to this Western NY institution back in September for lunch. Got a hot dog, fries, and a drink. Came to only $5.85! So cheap! I guess these dogs are made a special way, over charcoal. Before I ordered, I thought, "hey, what's the big deal, it's a hot dog!" But man, it was one damned good hot dog. Definitely glad I went!

Simply the best hot dogs I've ever had.  None of that beef nonsense, just pure pork goodness grilled over charcoal right in front of you.  Hot dogs can be loaded up with homemade chili sauce, hot sauce, and a few other things along with a quartered pickle laid alongside the dog in the bun.  The only thing I don't like are the fries--shredded, deep fried things that don't really go well with the hot dogs.  But otherwise, Ted's is 1950's Americana at its finest, and right here in Buffalo.  Whenever I have out-of-towners over, this is the first place we head for.

I hate boiled, steamed heated hot dogs. I looooove Teds. It's so hard to get a good hot dog these days, but you can always get one at Teds! Charcoal grilled hot dogs, saurkraut, cheese, whatever, great fries. I just love Teds. I wish we had them in TN.  It's one place my daughter and I always go when we come up to NY. Mmmm...feel like them now....New Year's Eve dinner at Ted's? Sounds great!

One thing I've always loved almost as much as burgers are hot dogs. They're like burger's stretched out cousin. So once I realized that hot dogs are kind of a thing in that part of NY, I sought out some good eats to have on my way back to the airport in Buffalo.

    I think Ted's is one of those spot where if you grew up with it, you're a die-hard fan. But for an outsider, it was hard to find the appeal. Not wanting to stuff myself before my flight, I got a foot long chili cheese dog and a regular sized dog with some normal toppings;

    http://www.yelp.com/bi...

Both dogs were okay on the beefy side, but the "chili" used on the foot long tasted like ketchup with some finely minced ground beef. Way too sweet for me! I did enjoy the good char they give the dogs by smashing them into the charcoal grill, but since the dog was already split in 10 places, it lost some of its snap.

The other thing I did like (and this goes for all of western NY) was that the small soda actually came in a small cup! But as for Ted's, it was an okay hot dog spot but the chili took them down a notch in my book.

Ted's Hot Dogs. Every city has it's "thing", and Buffalo has more than its fair share. Ted's is one of them.

There is a typical Buffalonian style of hot dog, famously served at Zorba's, Abbott Hots, Hot Dog Heaven, etc... this is not it. The type of hot dog served here is an entity unto itself. They have dogs, footlong dogs, Polish and Italian sausages too... and some burgers. I heard the Onion Rings are good, but I don't get those. I'm not crazy about the fries. Their chocolate shakes are usually good, and are fairly cheap with the ridiculous price of choc shakes these days. They are pretty small though and not by any means the best you can get in the area.

The dogs here are really, truly flame grilled... it's hot as hell near those grills and you can see the sparks fly. It gives the dogs a char-burned, crunchy crispy outside, they have a real snap to them more than any other dogs I've had, particularly in this area. I've never been a fan of green relish, but their red sauce is pretty good.

For drink, you have to get Loganberry, because it's a local specialty. Did you know there is a Ted's in Arizona? It's true. There is a Ted's in Tempe, which is in the greater Phoenix Metro area. It's absolutely bizarre to see a little slice (or roll) of Buffalo in the middle of the desert. Very cool though. Well done Ted's. There are about 7 Ted's in WNY (estimated), and they're all almost identical, so whichever one you go to, you should be in for a pretty good meal. Nom nom nom. I'm giving it a five but if you only had 1 chance to get 1 dog in Buffalo, I'd say check out Zorba's or Abbott Hots instead. If you're in Phoenix, however, this would be the dog of choice.

Let me say a few things about Buffalo. Buffalo has some of the best * food on earth. What Buffalo is famous for is Wings and snow. And Niagara Falls. And never quite winning any sports championships. But it should be famous for food in general. I'm talking cheap, local, original, unique food perfection, and tons of it. This city is an absolute foodie paradise. It has some amazing Thai, Chinese, Indian, Puerto Rican, BBQ, Polish... it has my fave Italian on earth (Michael's among many more), it has the best Chicken Souvlaki on earth (Alton's, among many more), the best Pizza on Earth (Imperial, Paulys, Bozannas, Zips, and many more), the best Wings by far (Zips and many more), the best meat sandwiches (Charlie The Butcher's and more), the best bar food, the best fish sandwich (Bailey Seafood), it's just incomparable as far as small towns go. I got very lucky when I randomly ended up living there and was able to discover all this culinary magic over time.

    original review

Ted's is as good as it gets. Some of the most delicious hot dogs you'll ever eat. Good burgers Dirt cheap prices. Fantastic polish dogs. Luscious footlongs. Loganberry. It's all here and it's quintessential Buffalo. Mmm-mmmm.

The customer service used to me 1 of a kind now not so impressing, im not sure what really happened to teds but its no the same!

I had the polish dog. It comes with sauerkraut if you ask for it!! It was really good and kind of entertaining to watch the guy make it. The onion rings are delicious. Not oily at all.

My friend had the All-Beef dog, double cheeseburger, and the polish dog. He said the double cheeseburger was really good. He doesn't think it's worth a 5 star rating though. After eating 75% of their menu, he "would like to see a bigger menu"

Walking into Ted's always brings me back to my youth.  My folks used to take me to the Sheridan Drive location quite often as a young buck.

Very little has changed... the menu is EXACTLY the same, some 25 years later.  Most importantly, the quality of food is still as high as yesteryear.

Ted's menu is much smaller than rival Louie's.  It's pretty much: dogs, burgers, grilled chicken, fries, rings, and shakes.

The best part is standing over the grill, watching your meal getting prep'ed... I enjoy the interaction with the staff and LOVE the smell of the grill (it's the small things that rev my engines i guess).

Ted's or Louie's... pick one, you'll win either way.

Oh god, the foot long charbroiled hot dogs are fucking fantastic, especially with cheese and most especially with pickles.  Skip the french fries and get their fanfuckingtabulous onion rings.  Add salt, malt vinegar and gorge.

Decor = Fast food style. :)  Don't expect much, but I do like the history they shared about the restaurant.

Service = Funny... the first word I can think of is 'efficient'.   You order your dogs, by the time you get to the cash register, your dog is ready!  ding!

Food = I ordered the original and it was the BEST dog I have ever tasted.  It is with natural casting but they grill it over charcoal so it is crispy.  Not chewing at all.  The meat inside is soft and test real.   I was skeptical when they putted a pickle on the top.  I was like.. what the heck, I will try it the buffalo way... ummmmmmmmm.. crunch crunch..  sweet and crunchy..  the best dog by far!  I am craving for one in CA now.  :(

The onion rings and fries were just ok.  I didn't care for them since i have my hot dog.

Value =  Fast food price.  very reasonable

    Kid Friendly = Yes.

Recommendation =  lol.. what else..  the dogs.

Charbroiled hot dogs and french fries?  Yes, please!

When I first moved to Buffalo, I didn't understand what the hype was about these hot dogs.  I drove by the location on Niagara Falls Boulevard and was less than impressed.   I figured a hot dog was a hot dog, and that I would be better off spending my money on something more satisfying.  Boy, was I proven wrong!

The hot dogs are charbroiled over coals right in front of you - you can get foot-longs, regular size, or all-beef franks. You can also get chicken or hamburgers - but why?  If you want one of those, go to McDonald's.  While at Ted's, you also have to try the french fries.  They're always fresh, always crispy, and always belong with a hot dog.  The onion rings are okay, but I've had better.  Honestly, the onion rings at Ted's are very thin and are almost all batter.  Other Yelp reviewers seem to enjoy them, so perhaps I'm the only person in Buffalo that doesn't like them, haha.

Ted's gets four stars because of their great food, fast service, very inexpensive menu and convenience.

Mutilated hot dogs. That's all I could think when I was watching them cook their hot dogs. I'm sure it tastes better and it cooks faster, but my all beef hot dog was mutilated. My friend brought me there after raving like crazy about these hot dogs. I was pretty convinced especially after reading fellow Yelpers reviews.

Massive fail. It was a hot dog. I can perfectly grill a hot dog too. The hot sauce wasn't hot. It was completely overpriced and unnecessary.

Wash it down with a cold Loganberry drink and you are in heaven. Take some hot sauce home with you too. You will never eat Hot Dogs without it again.. I love watching the Food Channel when I'm bored....one day I'm watching "the 10 best hotdogs in the US" and Ted's lands in the top.  I was intrigued.

As luck would have it, we had a wedding in Ohio and decided to drive it from Boston and spend a few days in Niagara Falls to check it out, thank god this was before $4-$5 gas prices.  Ted's became a destination.

These hotdogs are delicious, they're long and melt in you mouth.  The onion rings are a must get as well.  Well deserved Ted in your honour of making our nation's best hot dogs. God bless america.

For the writer who said her hot dog was beef and mutilated. Sahlens' dogs used by Teds are basically pork with beef within a casing and offer a unique flavor that many love because of the pork as opposed to a beef dog. (my personal favorite is from Redlinski which is a pork dog. Ted's is special because you can watch the charcoal grilling take place. The "mutilating" is no different than what people do at home when they make knife marks to cause the dog to open a bit and of course to thoroughly heat. Sahlens's are already cooked so obviously in a restaurant you will have to make sure they are heated through.
I have never noticed a problem and they are relatively small cuts with the grilling tools. And make it wonderful for the mustard or chili sauce to sink into the meat. Yum. Love Ted's here and when we visit Phoenix (Tempe).

I get two regular dogs, one order of onion rings, a large Loganberry.

Ketchup, mustard, onion, pickle on the dog.  If we're talking four food groups, I'm covered.

Great place to take the kids for a bad-for-you lunch, fast, easy and always, always consistantly superior.

Couldn't pass this place up on our way back from Niagara Falls given all of the great reviews.  This was the first meal we didn't feel gouged on.  $14 for 2 combos.  The amount of fries and onion rings they give you is ungodly!  Fries are average. Onion rings are the perfect texture but sadly no flavor.  If these were seasoned, they'd have been the perfect onion rings.  The dogs.  I got mustard and onions and hubby got the coney.  Man am I glad I didn't get the coney!!  It was horrible!  What is that coney sauce?  Spiced ketchup??  It wasn't meaty, it didn't taste like chili (unless that's not how they do coneys in this region?) and I had to drink my pop to get the taste of out my mouth.  My dog was really good.  Love the char, could've given me more than a teaspoon of onions but whatever.  Doubt we'd go back if we're craving coneys but for basic dogs, they're pretty good.

Ok, I love hotdogs. My dad's extended family is from Western New York, and being from LA, I'm usually not that impressed with what they can have to offer... until Ted's... grilled hot dogs with any toppings. The fries are amazing, and the chocolate milkshake is to die for. We have Pink's Hot Dog's in LA, which is pretty awesome, but this gives it a less pretentious run for its money!

I know Buffalo is known for wings & beef on weck and I make sure I stop for those for at least 1 meal a day any time I am in town, but I have to say I also go out of my way to go to this place too.  This and Hiram's in NJ are the 2 best hot dog places I know of hands down.  Perfectly grilled the way nobody else can do it so that the outside is charred just right and the inside is tenderlicously good.  Forget fine dining in Buffalo, go to Ted's.
