I randomly stumbled upon the Tea Market one day during a walk in the underground of Bay/Yonge.

Its a tiny cozy place that has one of my most favorite things ever in abundance---loose leaf black tea!!!  And its seriously the best I've tried like EVER,

So upon discovering  this I have officially declared this to be my most favorite tea shop ever.

So if you love tea and and also love going on an underground quest to find some, the Tea Market needs to become your destination tea spot!

Tea Market has a decent selection of tea.. especially if you are into herbal, flower infused tea.

The set up of the store is quite nice with shelves of loose tea samples and pre packaged bags organized by their types.

There was one staff an older gentleman behind the counter but he didn't realize I walked in.

The location is a little hidden... as I would never know about Tea Market without Yelp!!!

Sometimes it's nice to get lost in the underground walkways of Toronto, because it means you'll find somewhere you wouldn't normally! I found the Tea Market in this way, and made a mental note to go back and check it out when I had the time.

A little nook with a few tables/chairs to sit in for a cuppa (they also have a very small selection of baked goods for snackage), it's a pretty unassuming space, but they mean business about their tea.

For a smallish store, they have a great range of tea - rooibos, green, black & white - some straight up, some flavoured. There's little tins with samples for each tea so you can have a nice whiff and see if it's to your liking. The baby-faced young man behind the counter was also quite helpful when I quizzed him about the flavour of different types of breakfast teas. Teas are sold in foil/plastic packs - 50g and 100g sizes - with foil tie-tags, my preferred way to buy tea if i'm not transferring to my own storage. Prices are reasonable, around $5 - $7 for 50g, depending on the type of tea.

As well as the tea itself, you'll find various paraphernalia to browse - a few teapots, cups, strainers/bags/tea balls & tins. Not a comparable amount to a kitchenware speciality shop, perhaps, but enough to grab what you might need when getting your leaves.

A great little spot in the mazes of the underground at Bloor/Yonge!

This place is in a crazy location, in the underground walkway between Yonge and Bay. They serve a great selection of teas to go, to stay or to take with you to make later.

It's a pretty bustling business, but surprisingly calm. There are a few seats in the middle of the room to rest and have a cup, and they sell some pretty wicked biscotti. They also sell beautiful tea pots and gift baskets.

A great place to stop on a cruddy day (you can access it without going outside).

If you go, try the Creme Au Caramel Rooibos. Mmmmmmmmmm......melty.
