People should really make the (short) journey to North Van more often. There's lots of decent places to eat/drink and the views are awesome. The small-town feel is a welcome break.
My bro said this was a cool joint, so we went for lunch. The place has ample space with a long bar and a clear view of the kitchen. I had one of their sandwiches and a beer. Their portions are huge as I barely wolfed mine down. Service was bubbly and prices were just right. A pub done the way it should be done. -

"Meh. I've experienced better."
Damn, what a great way to describe this place!
Hands down what keeps Taylor's going is it's location ambience and bar. It's nestled right in on Marine Drive and the patio is superb. The dim lights, nice bathrooms and candy tucked in the hosting table makes you think it's a pretty tight joint.
However.. it joins the ranks of other dimly lit, black outfitted staff with trendy patios - they all seem to be pretty scoring pretty mediocre.
For all this 'hey we're trendy eat here..' type deal going on, I'd rather save the extra money and get some good grub off a food cart. I'm not one for getting all dresed up to go out for dinner. Food is food!
Anyway, we sat down and got a couple of drinks which seemed to take a little while to get there. We scanned over the menu (not very vegetarian friendly) and decided on the absurdly priced nachos.
It seemed to take forever for the Nachos! (Mmm we though... they must be cooking up something deeeelicious right?)
Except.. not really. They seemed to be skimpy on the cheese and honestly I could have had that plate of suckers out in 4 minutes flat. It looked like someone opened a can of olives, jalapeno pepper and poured some sort of.... canned beany thing onto it. The beans weren't even that hot!!!
That would be accepted for a $10 nacho plate.. But for 16 bucks? You gotta be kidding me! The manager who served us recommended getting extra beef on it.. Trying to 'upsell' us I guess. We told him we don't eat beef. "Try the chicken instead!" Yeah... I don't eat meat, period. (fail)
The nachos came with sour cream but no salsa. So weird! What the eff.. For this amount of money they should be bangin' it out of the park! Le Sigh.
Anyway. This is the place you come when you get really, really drunk with your friends and munch out on some beer. It's a great place to go on a friday night (to the bar side of course) but as a restauraunt.. blegh! It's also the type my boyfriend would say yeah it's good! but I will have you know the ONLY meal he said was bad was $3 chinese food in the downtown eastside (bad choice my friend, bad choice)
Good thing I had good company! -

I went to Taylor's Crossing for a goodbye dinner last week - a beer and burger on the patio sounded like the perfect way to end my friend's time in Vancouver. Unfortunately, when we got there (despite there being lots of space on the patio and it being very early in the evening) we were told that they couldn't sit a group of eight on the patio. Instead, we were given a table in the back corner where service progressed at a snails pace.
I ordered a burger with a salad (dressing on the side) and a beer. The beer was the best part of the meal. The salad came soaked in dressing and had to be sent back for one with no dressing, while the burger was bland and dry. The rest of my table seemed equally enthused with their meals. The whole experience didn't budge above barely mediocre - I will not be returning in the near future. -

Wrote a letter and mailed it to the company and no response.
Found an earth worm in my salad. Told the waiter/sever as I was 1/4 way into the salad. She took it away and asked if I wanted to order something else even though my appetite was sort of not the same.
Worms happen... organic greens, I know.
Well got my new order and my guest and I continued our meeting.
When the bill came, the salad and the replaced meal was on the bill.
No apologies, nothing.
A better restaurant would have paid for the entire meal so they'd get a returning customer.
A worm in your salad could totally turn off a customer.
But nothing.
Won't bring a client or guest again.
Because it is convenient, people invite me there all the time. I don't go unless I have to but I only grab a drink and order hot items or tapas. -

Oh North Vancouver, how I love thee.
And it's (so far) only because of this pub. It's huge. I mean, enormous. Outdoor seating, complete with bar stools and couches, plenty of TVs. I was a happy go-lucky hockey fan watching at the bar in the back with some very chatty locals and tons of good food. Strangely enough, the menu is half Chinese food, half pub/American (Canadian?). So I went for it and got the Chow Mein. Not disappointed. Nor by anything else we got, which were many things indeed. By the end of the night, I was placing bets, losing of course, and had to roll out of there a stuffed loser.
So if you're looking for a local place to watch the game, or even a rowdy Friday or Saturday night (so I hear), ruffle your feathers here. I'm certainly a fan.
Parking on the ground level or underground. Also, the Red Truck Brewery (pictured here) is next-door and they give tours during the day.
Ah and here's a tip: If you're a beer fan, you're going to love the seasonal Red Truck beer on tap: the Rogue. -

Taylor Crossing is a a series of restaurants operated by The Mark James Group, which primarily promotes their microbrews. At this specific branch, the menu wasn't all that extensive but the beer is great. Beer specials are happening daily, allowing you to get acquainted to a new friend for $3.95 a pint. Also there is a patio outside, and who doesn't love patio seating? Their menu tends to be heavily asian-influenced and wok-inspired. I deviated from the expected and tried the fish n' chips. Their halibut was coated in red truck beer batter which was delicious, but the fries were a let down. Overall, I enjoy their beers and might give their food another chance, especially because every Sunday, all their pizzas are $7.

Wonderful meal last night. The beer was excellent, the food was well prepared and the kids were entertained by the house magician. We thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Nachos were excellent, pizza, stirfry, halibut sandwhich all were great. We'll be back next time we're in town.

My husband and I ate here when we first arrived in North Vancouver. It was Sunday and there was a deal with all the pizzas. It was only $8.99 from $12.99. We got the barbecue chicken pizza, the wok fried garlic squid (which is a must), caesar salad, and a Brewer's salad (in a citrus vinaigrette). Overall, we were happy with the food and the service (but then again we went on a Sunday at around 5:30 pm).

Had dinner here tonight. We were looking forward to a nice night out. A brewpub for the guys and kid friendly too (they have a magician on Friday and Saturday nights). But we were generally disappointed by the night. Now I have to admit I was with 2 former cooks who are pretty hard to please. But even I was underwhelmed.
- When we called to make our reservation we were asked if there was any special occassion or reason for the night out - yup 2 birthdays. Not sure why they asked as there was nothing said/done about it.
- Were confused by us arriving with our reservation. Tried to seat us as a walk-in of 10 (there were 4 adults and one toddler standing in front of them).
- Manager asked 3 times if we needed a high chair (again the toddler was standing in front of him)
- Had someone take our drink order and then another waiter come 2 minutes later to ask for our drink order... "oh I guess they didn't realize I was here" was the response.
- Had to ask for the fresh sheet for the night
- Waiter didn't tell us in advance that some of the menu items weren't available because they are changing the menu over this week... disappointment for our friend who had wanted the mussels.
- When asked to describe their burger we were told "... you can order it with cheese or other toppings if you want..." Since that didn't tell us anything, my husband directly asked if they were made in the restaurant. " Oh, no, but they are a sirlion patty." Too late. Pizza was ordered instead.
- Went to the bathroom with the toddler and couldn't find a change table. An employee was in the bathroom with us, saw us struggling and said nothing. Realized on our 2nd trip to the bathroom that there was a change table in the accessible washroom.
- Calimari was good - but arrived lukewarm and they are really their best when served hot. The wonton appie was just a lump of spicy stuff.
- My friend got the wrong pizza. Quickly fixed, but still.
- I had to sit through several minutes of discussion on the preparation of the pizzas, the distribution of the toppings, the actual pizza vs the menu description... now this is partly my fault for going out to eat with a friend who used to work in the pizza business developing pizzas for restaurants.
Now I do have to say that we were given a couple of free beers for the pizza mix up. But generally it was a pretty 'okay' night. Nothing earth shatteringly wrong... but just Meh!
