Review from John F.
North York, ON
I kept passing this place and did not know what ethnicity it was so stopped in yesterday to check it out.
It is a Portuguese market with a lot of meat and frozen fish. They seem to have a big variety of olive oil, sausages (chorico, etc.) and tables full of bacalao.
As there was no Portuguese community in my former hometown, I'm not very familiar with this cuisine. I would say, however, that I did not find a lot of items that were very interesting looking - I enjoy Middle Eastern, Indian, Chinese and Eastern European groceries more.
They have a lot of decorated terra cotta pots. I guess this must be a Portuguese or Azorean specialty.
The checker was friendly but ditzy. She kept getting distracted by a ringing phone and did not know how to make change. It took me about ten minutes to buy three items with cash and with no one in front of me.
I might be more interested in their offerings had I a better knowledge of Portuguese cuisine and culture.
I looked them up in http://yellowpages.ca and evidently they also have two stores in Toronto.
